Timing of formation of the Western Jinshajiang and Ganze–Litang sutures:evidence from the Duocai Granite in the Zhiduo region,West China

The timing of the closure of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean in West China remains *** investigate this problem,we examined the geochemical characteristics,zircon U-Pb chronology,and Hf isotopes of monzogranites and quartz diorites from the Duocai granite in the Zhiduo region,at the intersection of the Jinshajiang and *** monzogranites have the chemical characteristics of calc-alkalineⅠ-type granites and yield a weighted mean zircon U-Pb age of 234.6±0.9 Ma[mean square weighted deviation(MSWD)=0.36].InitialεHf(-t)values are high and positive,ranging from+7.9 to+13.6 with a mean of+10.7,corresponding to two-stage Hf isotope model ages(TDM2)of 762-395 *** and isotopic data indicate that the source magma of the monzogranites formed from mantle-derived magmas mixed with the overlying crustal *** quartz diorites,which also have compositional characteristics of calcalkaline I-type granites,yield a weighted mean zircon UPb age of 209.1±0.7 Ma(MSWD=0.29).InitialεHf(-t)values range from-2.5 to+0.6 with a mean of-1.5,with the corresponding TDM2 of 1402-1210 *** and isotopic data indicate that the primary magma of the quartz diorites was derived mainly from partial melting of the mafic lower crust and small amount mantle-derived magma *** these results with regional data,the studied granites are inferred to have formed as a result of continuous subduction of plates underlying the Western Jinshajiang Ocean-Ganze-Litang Ocean from 234 to 209 Ma,and were unrelated to subduction of the South Jinshajiang oceanic *** suggest that the Western Jinshajiang Ocean-Ganze-Litang Ocean closed by the end of Late Triassic.

In this work,the impacts of pressure on the structural,mechanical,thermodynamic and electronic properties of typical Pt_(3)M(M=Al,Co,Hf,Sc,Y,Zr)compounds were investigated systematically by the firstprinciples density function theory *** calculated lattice parameters,volume and elastic constants of Pt_(3)M compounds are in good agreement with available experimental and calculation *** the increase in pressure,the lattice parameters and volume of Pt_(3)M compounds decrease,while the elastic constants,bulk modulus,shear modulus and Young’s modulus *** variations in Pugh’s ratio and Poisson’s ratio indicate that these Pt_(3)M compounds are mechanically stable and *** mechanical anisotropy of these Pt_(3)M compounds is enhanced by rising *** analysis indicates that sound velocity and Debye temperature increase with the increase in *** charge distribution does not change obviously,implying that no phase transition occurs in the range of 0-100 GPa.

Achieving good strength-ductility of Mg alloys has always been a crucial issue for the widespread applications of Mg-based structural ***,an unexpected double-stage strengthening phenomenon was discovered in Mg-8Li-1Y(wt.%)alloys through high pressure(6 GPa)heat treatments over a range of 700-1300℃.Attractively,the yield strength values are improved remarkably without losing their *** low temperature strengthening mechanism is mainly driven by the formation of large-volume nanoscale contraction *** contrast,the high-temperature strengthening reason is ascribed to the presence of densely nano-sized stacking *** coherent interfaces contribute effectively to high mechanical strength without any tradeoff in ductility.

Percutaneous radiofrequency ablation is superior to hepatic resection in patients with small hepatocellular carcinoma

BACKGROUND It is not known whether percutaneous radiofrequency ablation(PRFA)has the same treatment efficacy and fewer complications than laparoscopic resection in patients with small centrally located hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).AIM To compare the effectiveness of PRFA with classical laparoscopic resection in patients with small HCC and document the safety *** In this retrospective study,85 patients treated with hepatic resection(HR)and 90 PRFA-treated patients were enrolled in our hospital from July 2016 to July *** outcomes,including major complications and survival data,were *** The results showed that minor differences existed in the baseline characteristics between the patients in the two *** significantly increased cumulative recurrence-free survival(hazard ratio 1.048,95%CI:0.265-3.268)and overall survival(hazard ratio 0.126,95%CI:0.025-0.973);PRFA had a lower rate of major complications than HR(7.78%vs 20.0%,P<0.05),and hospital stay was shorter in the PRFA group than in the HR group(7.8±0.2 d vs 9.5±0.3 d,P<0.001).CONCLUSION Based on the data obtained,we conclude that PRFA was superior to HR and may reduce complications and hospital stay in patients with small HCC.

Particle captured by a field-modulating vortex through dielectrophoresis force

In microfluidic technology, dielectrophoresis(DEP) is commonly used to manipulate particles. In this work, the fluid–particle interactions in a microfluidic system are investigated numerically by a finite difference method(FDM) for electric field distribution and a lattice boltzmann method(LBM) for the fluid flow. In this system, efficient particle manipulation may be realized by combining DEP and field-modulating vortex. The influence of the density(ρ_(p)), radius(γ), and initial position of the particle in the y direction(y_(p0)), and the slip velocity(u_(0)) on the particle manipulation are studied systematically. It is found that compared with the particle without action of DEP force, the particle subjected to a DEP force may be captured by the vortex over a wider range of parameters. In the y direction, as ρ_(p) or γ increases, the particle can be captured more easily by the vortex since it is subjected to a stronger DEP force. When u_(0) is low, particle is more likely to be captured due to the vortex–particle interaction. Furthermore, the flow field around the particle is analyzed to explore the underlying mechanism. The results obtained in the present study may provide theoretical support for engineering applications of field-controlled vortices to manipulate particles.

To study the distribution characteristics and similarity laws of nuclei under different pressures,based on the selfdesigned decompression chamber and the acoustic measuring system,the size distributions of nuclei in the degassed tap water under negative ambient pressures were measured.A number density distribution function of nuclei based on the modified Weibull distribution function was proposed and verified by the experimental measurement results and some published data of nuclei size *** on this nuclei number density distribution function,the similarity law of the nuclei size distribution was analyzed:in the scale experiment,the value of exponential in the similarity law of the nuclei number density should be determined by the nuclei size distribution of the water in the prototype experiment and the actual nuclei size distribution of the water in the model *** a precondition is that the nuclei size distributions are similar.

High-entropy carbide ceramics (HECs) have drawn increasing attention as their excellent mechanical and thermal properties. In this work, the crystal stability,mechanical behavior, electronic and thermodynamic properties of (TiZrNbTa)C HEC are investigated by the first-principles calculations. Obtained results reveal that the disordered transition-metal (TM) atoms result in serious local lattice distortion within the crystal. The lattice distortion plays a key role for the structural stabilization,mechanical anisotropy and thermodynamic behaviors of(TiZrNbTa)C. Increasing pressure leads to decrease the lattice parameter, volume and brittleness, meanwhile increase the elastic constants, elastic moduli, mechanical anisotropy, sound velocity, and Debye temperature. It is also discovered that charge delocalization occurs with the increase in pressure. The mechanical stability and anisotropy of (TiZrNbTa)C are attributed primarily to TM-C bonding.

The Aerosol Radiative Effect on a Severe Haze Episode in the Yangtze River Delta

Due to increased aerosol emissions and unfavorable weather conditions, severe haze events have occurred fre- quently in China in the last 10 years. In addition, the interaction between the boundary layer and the aerosol radiative effect may be another important factor in haze formation. To better understand the effect of this interaction, the aero- sol radiative effect on a severe haze episode that took place in December 2013 was investigated by using two WRF- Chem model simulations with different aerosol configurations. The results showed that the maximal reduction of re- gional average surface shortwave radiation, latent heat, and sensible heat during this event were 88, 12, and 37 W m2, respectively. The planetary boundary layer height, daytime temperature, and wind speed dropped by 276 m, I^C, and 0.33 m s-l, respectively. The ventilation coefficient dropped by 8%-24% for in the central and northwestern Yangtze River Delta （YRD）. The upper level of the atmosphere was warmed and the lower level was cooled, which stabilized the stratification. In a word, the dispersion ability of the atmosphere was weakened due to the aerosol radi- ative feedback. Additional results showed that the PM2.5 concentration in the central and northwestern YRD in- creased by 6-18 p.g m3, which is less than 15% of the average PM2.5 concentration during the severely polluted peri- od in this area. The vertical profile showed that the PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations increased below 950 hPa, with a maximum increase of 7 and 8 gg m-3, respectively. Concentrations reduced between 950 and 800 hPa, however, with a maximum reduction of 3.5 and 4.5 p.g rn-3, respectively. Generally, the aerosol radiative effect aggravated the level of pollution, but the effect was limited, and this haze event was mainly caused by the stagnant meteorological condi- tions.
