Response of global agricultural productivity anomalies to drought stress in irrigated and rainfed agriculture

The response of agricultural productivity anomalies to drought stress plays a crucial role in the carbon cycle within terrestrial ecosystems and in ensuring food security. However, detailed analysis of how global agricultural productivity anomalies response to drought stress, particularly within irrigated and rainfed agricultural systems, remains insufficient. In this study, the impact of drought stress on agricultural productivity anomalies during the growing season(zcNDVI^(S)), across both irrigated and rainfed agriculture, were analyzed using a suite of hydro-climatic variables. Specifically, the investigation utilized the multi-scalar Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index(SPEI), the Multivariate ENSO Index(MEI), and the Madden-Julian Oscillation(MJO). Meanwhile, the relationships between hydroclimatic variables and zcNDVI^(S) were analyzed at one, two, three and four months before the ending of growing season(EOS). Results showed that(1) the percentages of significant(p<0.1) drying trends varied across the globe from 8.30% to 13.42%, 6.50% to 14.63%, 6.52% to 14.23%, and 6.47%to 14.95% at one-, two-, three-, and four-month lead times before EOS, respectively, during 2001–2020, which represented by the multiscalar SPEI. This observation highlights that most regions across the globe tend to be arid, which could significantly impact agricultural productivity;(2) the global mean correlation coefficients(rmax) for SPEI-1, SPEI-3, SPEI-6, SPEI-12(indicating SPEI at 1-, 3-, 6-, and 12-month lags), MEI, and MJO with zcNDVI^(S) ranged between 0.24–0.25, 0.27–0.28, 0.25–0.26, 0.21–0.22, –0.02–0.01 and 0.06–0.11, respectively, across both irrigated and rainfed agriculture system from 2001 to *** productivity anomalies demonstrated a significant correlation with drought stress. Forest soil carbon is a major carbon pool of terrestrial ecosystems,and accurate estimation of soil organic carbon(SOC)stocks in forest ecosystems is rather *** study compared the prediction performance of three empirical model approaches namely,regression kriging(RK),multiple stepwise regression(MSR),random forest(RF),and boosted regression trees(BRT)to predict SOC stocks in Northeast China for 1990 and ***,the spatial variation of SOC stocks and the main controlling environmental factors during the past 25 years were identified.A total of 82(in 1990)and 157(in 2015)topsoil(0–20 cm)samples with 12 environmental factors(soil property,climate,topography and biology)were selected for model *** selected80%of the soil sample data were used to train the models and the other 20%data for model verification using mean absolute error,root mean square error,coefficient of determination and Lin's consistency correlation coefficient *** found BRT model as the best prediction model and it could explain 67%and 60%spatial variation of SOC stocks,in 1990,and 2015,*** maps of all models in both periods showed similar spatial distribution characteristics,with the lower SOC in northeast and higher SOC in *** annual temperature and elevation were the key environmental factors influencing the spatial variation of SOC stock in both *** stocks were mainly stored under Cambosols,Gleyosols and Isohumosols,accounting for 95.6%(1990)and 95.9%(2015).Overall,SOC stocks increased by 471 Tg C during the past 25 *** study found that the BRT model employing common environmental factors was the most robust method for forest topsoil SOC stocks *** spatial resolution of BRT model enabled us to pinpoint in which areas of Northeast China that new forest tree planting would be most effective for enhancing forest C ***,our approach is likely to be useful in forestry management and ecologic

Impact of climate change on rice growth and yield in China:Analysis based on climate year type

Climate change threatens China’s rice production,making it crucial to assess the impact of climate change and climate year type(CYT)on rice production across regions to safeguard food *** impact of climate change under nine CYTs with different combinations of temperature and precipitation on two rice cropping systems,including single rice and double rice(early and late rice)was *** results indicate that:(1)the Northeast region was expected to undergo the greatest warming of 2.03–2.48℃,and future climate conditions would be dominated by Warm-Humid,Warm-Normal,and Warm-Dry CYTs across all regions.(2)Climate change would significantly shorten anthesis days after sowing and maturity days after sowing of single rice by 6–12 days and 9–24 days,with little change observed for late rice(<1 day).Late rice yield suffered more from climate change compared to single and early rice yield,declining by 8.8%–16.13%.(3)Different CYTs exhibited varying impacts on rice *** were projected to decrease by approximately 4.765%to 18.645%in Warm-Humid,Warm-Normal,and Warm-Dry ***,the Northeast region was anticipated to experience an increase in yield.(4)Relationships between rice yield and meteorological factors varied by region,variety,and *** the nine CYTs,high killing degree days,mean daily temperature,mean solar radiation and warm spell duration index were the main factors influencing changes in rice yield,explaining nearly 80%of yield *** results would help to develop adaptation strategies in different regions and rice cropping systems.

This study investigated the effect of sealing treatment on the corrosion performance of plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)coated AZ91D Mg alloy with and without addition of corrosion *** microstructure,phase composition and corrosion property of the sealed and unsealed coatings were evaluated by using scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy dispersion spectroscopy(EDS),x-ray diffraction(XRD),x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),polarization,and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)*** experiments and salt spray tests showed that,after sealing in phosphate solution containing corrosion inhibitor,the corrosion current density of PEO-coated AZ91D decreased more than 10-fold and the anti-corrosion time in a salt spray environment increased more than *** corrosion rate of the PEO coating slowed down due to the releasing and adsorbing of the corrosion inhibitors in the pores and cracks of the coating during the corrosion process.

While a plethora of studies has been conducted to explore demotivation and its impact on mental health in second language(L2)education,scanty research focuses on demotivation in L2 speaking ***,little research explores the measures to quantify L2 speaking *** present two-phase study attempts to develop and validate an English Speaking Demotivation Scale(ESDS).To this end,an independent sample of 207 Chinese tertiary learners of English as a Foreign Language(EFL)participated in the development phase,and another group of 188 Chinese EFL learners was recruited for the validation of the *** Factor Analysis(EFA)and Confirmatory Factor Analysis(CFA)were employed to determine the factor structure of the *** EFA results revealed a six-factor solution with Teacher-related Factors in Learning Spoken English(TFLSE),Interest and Valence in Learning Spoken English(IVLSE),Self-efficacy in Learning Spoken English(SELSE),Negative Peer Influence in Learning Spoken English(NPILSE),Undesirable Environment for Learning Spoken English(UELSE),and Negative Influence of Assessment and Learning Materials in speaking class(NIALM).In the validation phase,Confirmatory Factor Analysis(CFA)was performed to validate the internal structure of the *** CFA results showed that the model fits the data ***,the ESDS is a robust and trustworthy psychometric tool that could be utilized to examine L2 speaking *** for diminishing EFL learners’demotivation,lessening their aversive emotions and promoting their mental health are also discussed.

Shear mechanical properties and fracturing responses of layered rough jointed rock-like materials

This study aims to investigate mechanical properties and failure mechanisms of layered rock with rough joint surfaces under direct shear *** layered samples with dimensions of 100 mm×100 mm×100 mm were casted using rock-like materials,with anisotropic angle(α)and joint roughness coefficient(JRC)ranging from 15°to 75°and 2-20,*** direct shear tests were conducted under the application of initial normal stress(σ_(n)) ranging from 1-4 *** test results indicate significant differences in mechanical properties,acoustic emission(AE)responses,maximum principal strain fields,and ultimate failure modes of layered samples under different test *** peak stress increases with the increasingαand achieves a maximum value atα=60°or 75°.As σ_(n) increases,the peak stress shows an increasing trend,with correlation coefficients R² ranging from 0.918 to 0.995 for the linear least squares *** JRC increases from 2-4 to 18-20,the cohesion increases by 86.32%whenα=15°,while the cohesion decreases by 27.93%whenα=75°.The differences in roughness characteristics of shear failure surface induced byαresult in anisotropic post-peak AE responses,which is characterized by active AE signals whenαis small and quiet AE signals for a largeα.For a given JRC=6-8 andσ_(n)=1 MPa,asαincreases,the accumulative AE counts increase by 224.31%(αincreased from 15°to 60°),and then decrease by 14.68%(αincreased from 60°to 75°).The shear failure surface is formed along the weak interlayer whenα=15°and penetrates the layered matrix whenα=60°.Whenα=15°,as σ_(n) increases,the adjacent weak interlayer induces a change in the direction of tensile cracks propagation,resulting in a stepped pattern of cracks *** increase in JRC intensifies roughness characteristics of shear failure surface for a smallα,however,it is not pronounced for a largeα.The findings will contribute to a better understanding of the mechanical responses and failure mechanisms of the layered roc

Rice transcription factors OsLBD37/38/39 regulate nitrate uptake by repressing OsNRT2.1/2.2/2.3 under high-nitrogen conditions

Nitrate(NO_(3)^(-)) uptake involves a finely regulated and complex multilevel response *** the molecular mechanism of nitrate uptake may lead to improving the growth and productivity of plants in the presence of dynamic variation in nitrate *** this study,we identified three lateral organ boundaries domain(LBD)transcription factors,OsLBD37,OsLBD38,and OsLBD39,as regulators of nitrate uptake in response to nitrogen(N)***37,OsLBD38,and OsLBD39 were induced by ammonium and glutamine in rice *** or collective knockout of OsLBD37,OsLBD38,and OsLBD39 led to increased concentrations of nitrate and increased expression of OsNRT2.1,OsNRT2.2,and OsNRT2.3respectively under high-N conditions,whereas overexpression of each of these three LBD genes produced opposite effects where N accumulation was ***-luciferase reporter assay further confirmed that OsLBD37,OsLBD38,and OsLBD39 possessed transcription inhibitory activities in rice protoplast cells,downregulating the expression of OsNRT2.1/OsNRT2.2/*** two-hybrid and bimolecular fluorescence complementation assays showed that OsLBD37 interacted with OsLBD37,OsLBD38,and OsLBD39in the ***,these results show that OsLBD37,OsLBD38,and OsLBD39 collaborate to inhibit the expression of OsNRT2.1/OsNRT2.2/OsNRT2.3 transporters under N-sufficient conditions,thereby helping rice plants avoid excessive nitrate accumulation that may affect their growth.

A chromatographic method for pursuing potential GPCR ligands with the capacity to characterize their intrinsic activities of regulating downstream signaling pathway

GPCRs are dominant targets for approved drugs and the discovery of lead compound targeting them is still ***-based screening technique is a promising platform to uncover GPCR ***,the intrinsic activities of them are seldom simultaneously determined during the *** beta2-adrenoceptor(β2AR)as a probe,this work created a strategy for screening GPCR ligands with simultaneous characterization of their downstream G protein binding responses associated with *** strategy included(i)the design and expression of a protein miniature formed byβ2AR and G proteinα-subunit(Gαs)using circularly permuted HaloTag(cpHalo)as a flexible linker;(ii)immobilization of the miniature onto silica gel by a click dehalogenation reaction;(iii)systematic characterization of the immobilized miniature by fluorescent and chromatographic studies,and(iv)simulating of ligand-inducedβ2AR-Gαs signaling cascade by chromatographic assays using GTP as an *** immobilized miniature exhibited specificity toβ2AR and Gαs antibodies and *** specificity is stable at least within fifteen days with the variation less than 1%.The intrinsic activities ofβ2AR ligands were distinguished by the changes of GTP chromatographic behaviors on Gαs-cpHalo-β2AR *** strengthened the binding affinity and kinetics of GTP with Gαs,while antagonist did not give any effect on *** the intrinsic activity evaluation,we believe,it will improve the attributes of chromatographic methods for drug discovery efforts with minimizing false-positive results.
