The combined effect of bromadiolone and ivermectin (iBr) in controlling both rodents and their fleas

Rodent pests not only cause severe agricultural loss but also spread zoonotic pathogens to human beings.Antico-agulant rodenticides are widely used to decrease the population densities of rodents but often lead to the spillover of ectoparasites becausefleas and ticks may gather on surviving rodents.Therefore,it is necessary to killfleas and ticks before culling rodents to minimize the risk of pathogen transmission.In this study,we used a mixture of ivermectin(an antiparasitic drug)and bromadiolone(an anticoagulant rodenticide)to control both rodent andflea/tick abundances.We found that in a laboratory test,0.01%ivermectin bait was not lethal for greater long-tailed hamsters after 7 days of treatment,while 0.1%ivermectin bait was lethal for approximately 33%of treated rodents.In afield test,bait containing 0.001%,0.005%,0.01%,and 0.05%ivermectin decreased the number offleas per vole of Brandt’s voles to 0.42,0.22,0.12,and 0.2,respectively,compared with 0.77 in the control group,indicating that 0.01%ivermectin bait performed best in removingfleas.In another laboratory test,bait containing a 0.01%ivermectin and 0.005%bromadiolone mixture caused the death of all voles within 6–14 days after the intake of the bait.In thefield test,the bait containing 0.01%ivermectin and 0.005%bromadiolone reduced the average number offleas per vole to 0.35,which was significantly lower than the 0.77 of the control group.Our results indicate that a 0.01%ivermectin and 0.005%bromadiolone mixture could be used to control both rodents andfleas to minimize the spillover risk of disease transmission when using traditional rodenticides.

Fatigue properties and damage constitutive model of salt rock based on CT scanning

To investigate the macroscopic fatigue properties and the mesoscopic pore evolution characteristics of salt rock under cyclic loading,fatigue tests under different upper-limit stresses were carried out on salt rock,and the mesoscopic pore structures of salt rock before and after fatigue tests and under different cycle numbers were measured using CT scanning instrument.Based on the test results,the effects of the cycle number and the upper-limit stress on the evolution of cracks,pore morphology,pore number,pore volume,pore size,plane porosity,and volume porosity of salt rock were analyzed.The failure path of salt rock specimens under cyclic loading was analyzed using the distribution law of plane porosity.The damage variable of salt rock under cyclic loading was defined on basis of the variation of volume porosity with cycle number.In order to describe the fatigue deformation behavior of salt rock under cyclic loading,the nonlinear Burgers damage constitutive model was further established.The results show that the model established can better reflect the whole development process of fatigue deformation of salt rock under cyclic loading.

In recent years,more and more creatures in nature have become the source of inspiration for people to study bionic soft robots.Many such robots appear in the public’s vision.In this paper,a Venus flytrap robot similar to the biological Venus flytrap in appearance was designed and prepared.It was mainly cast by Polydimethylsiloxane(PDMs)and driven by the flexible material of Ionic Polymer Metal Composites(IPMCs).Combining with ANSYS and related experiments,the appropriate voltage and the size of IPMC were determined.The results showed that the performance of the Venus flytrap robot was the closest to the biological Venus flytrap when the size of IPMC length,width and driving voltage reach to 3 cm,1 cm and 5.5 V,respectively.Moreover,the closing speed and angle reached 8.22°/s and 37°,respectively.Finally,the fly traps also could be opened and closed repeatedly and captured a small ball with a mass of 0.3 g firmly in its middle and tip.

For the detection of steatosis,quantitative ultrasound imaging techniques have achieved great progress in past years.Magnetic resonance imaging proton density fat fraction is currently the most accurate test to detect hepatic steatosis.Some blood biomarkers correlate with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis,but the accuracy is modest.Regarding liver fibrosis,liver stiffness measurement by transient elastography(TE)has high accuracy and is widely used across the world.Magnetic resonance elastography is marginally better than TE but is limited by its cost and availability.Several blood biomarkers of fibrosis have been used in clinical trials and hold promise for selecting patients for treatment and monitoring treatment response.This article reviews new developments in the non-invasive assessment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).Accumulating evidence suggests that various non-invasive tests can be used to diagnose NAFLD,assess its severity,and predict the prognosis.Further studies are needed to determine the role of the tests as monitoring tools.We cannot overemphasize the importance of context in selecting appropriate tests.

Plenty of high-resolution paleoclimate investigations of the last thousand years were carried out to potentially predict future climate changes. Mountainous ombrotrophic peatland is one of the best recorders for high-resolution paleoclimate studies in the forest area. Grain size analysis was carried out on ombrotrophic peat profile in the eastern mountainous region of Jilin Province, NE China. The peat profile lasts the past 2 000 a by four radiocarbon (AMS 14C) ages. The results showed that the inorganic minerals in the peat profile are mainly silt, with some contribution from clay and a minor amount of sand, which are mainly due to wind dust and suspended transportation. Two paleoclimate stages are found in this peat profile by phytolith analysis, peat cellulose isotope research and historical documents,ca. 45–1550 AD., a relative cold period; ca. 1550 AD-present, warm. This finding is important for the initialstudyofpaleoclimaticchangesoverthelast2000ainthemountainousareaofeatern mountainous area, Jilin Province, NE China.

In this paper,exergy analysis method is developed to assess a Rankine cycle system,by using supercritical CO2 as working fluid and powered by solar energy.The proposed system consists of evacuated solar collectors,throttling valve,high-temperature heat exchanger,low-temperature heat exchanger,and feed pump.The system is designed for utilize evacuated solar collectors to convert solar energy into mechanical energy and hence electricity.In order to investigate and estimate exergy performance of this system,the energy,entropy,exergy balances are developed for the components.The exergy destructions and exergy efficiency values of the system components are also determined.The results indicate that solar collector and high temperature heat exchanger which have low exergy efficiencies contribute the largest share to system irreversibility and should be the optimization design focus to improve system exergy effectiveness.Further,exergy analysis is a useful tool in this regard as it permits the performance of each process to be assessed and losses to be quantified.Exergy analysis results can be used in design,optimization,and improvement efforts.

在气膜冷却中,主流和射流的相互作用会产生三维涡系结构和湍流掺混,它们引起了温度的对流和湍流扩散输运。由于上述现象的三维特性,传统的湍流模型无法准确预测气膜冷却效果,限制了燃气轮机冷却结构的分析与设计水平。本文采用湍流模型反演机器学习框架,基于流场关键位置的温度数据,对湍流普朗特数进行了具有空间分布的修正。所发展的机器学习湍流温度扩散模型可以显著降低冷却有效度的预测误差,且具有较好的泛化能力。

Precooling is of significant importance for postharvest fruits and vegetables to control the quality degradation and prolong the shelf-life.Current precooling methods include room cooling,forced-air cooling,hydrocooling,vacuum cooling,contact or package icing,and cryogenic cooling,all of which have their advantages and disadvantages.The first two methods with the cooling medium of air are extensively used because of the wide applicable range of fruits and vegetables.Numerous studies have been devoted to cope with the drawbacks of these two air-based precooling methods with various evaluation criteria and optimization methods.A systematic literature review on these studies is firstly conducted with respect to experimental and numerical investigations respectively for the two methods.The main contributions from the previous studies are also summarized respectively with the research objectives and performance metrics.The literature review indicates that the current performance evaluation is limited to apparent parameters and the optimal design is only proposed based on the performance evaluation and comparison.Furthermore,with inspiration from the research in other domains,a scheme of advanced evaluation and optimization for air-based precooling methods is proposed with thermodynamic evaluation metrics and constructal optimization methods from the interdisciplinary perspective.
