Glutamate-ammonia ligase(GLUL, also known as glutamine synthetase) is a crucial enzyme that catalyzes ammonium and glutamate into glutamine in the ATP-dependent condensation. Although GLUL plays a critical role in multiple cancers, the expression and function of GLUL in gastric cancer remain unclear. In the present study, we have found that the expression level of GLUL was significantly lower in gastric cancer tissues compared with adjacent normal tissues, and correlated with N stage and TNM stage, and low GLUL expression predicted poor survival for gastric cancer patients. Knockdown of GLUL promoted the growth, migration, invasion and metastasis of gastric cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, and vice versa, which was independent of its enzyme activity. Mechanistically, GLUL competed with β-Catenin to bind to N-Cadherin, increased the stability of N-Cadherin and decreased the stability of β-Catenin by alerting their ubiquitination. Furthermore, there were lower N-Cadherin and higher β-Catenin expression levels in gastric cancer tissues compared with adjacent normal tissues. GLUL protein expression was correlated with that of N-Cadherin, and could be the independent prognostic factor in gastric cancer. Our findings reveal that GLUL stabilizes N-Cadherin by antagonizing β-Catenin to inhibit the progress of gastric cancer.

Foliar C/N stoichiometry in urban forest trees on a global scale

Foliar C/N stoichiometry is an indicator of geochemical cycling in forest ecosystems,but the driving changes for its response to urbanization at the wide scale is not clear.In this study,data on tree-leaf C and N stoichiometry were collected in papers from across 105 tree species from 82 genera and 46 families.The foliar C/N of urban forest trees varied among different climate zones and tree taxonomic variation and tended to be higher in trees of urban forests near the equator and in eastern regions,mainly driven by lowered foliar N concentration.Neither the foliar C concentration nor foliar C/N for trees of urban forests was statistically higher than those of rural forests.For variation by taxonomic classification,C_4 species Amaranthus retroflexus and Chenopodium ambrosoides(Amaranthaceae) had lower foliar C/N than did other species and families.Myrsine guianensis(Primulaceae) and Myconia fallax(Asteraceae) had the highest foliar C/N.Therefore,urbanization has not caused a significant response in forest trees for foliar C/N.The change in foliar N concentration was globally the main force driving of the differences in foliar C/N for most tree species in urban forests.More work is needed on foliar C/N in trees at cities in polar regions and the Southern hemisphere.

城市造林是促进城市可持续发展的一项重要策略,而在没有新的大面积造林空间的城市里,行道树被认为是一项重要的城市造林策略。然而,目前仍缺乏行道树集合生态服务的变化特征研究,特别是社会经济梯度上的变化特征。本研究从行道树集合水平及个体水平两个尺度,研究了城市-城郊连续体的行道树生态服务变化特征。结果发现:(i)在城市-城郊连续体上,并不是所有的生态服务都呈现上升的趋势。在行道树集合水平,部分生态服务,如空气净化、雨水截留,在高城市化强度的区域最高。(ii)行道树生态服务的空间变化特征与该生态服务相关联的行道树集合的特征密切相关。行道树集合的结构,如行道树密度和年龄结构很可能是主要的影响因子。(iii)尽管行道树密度可以一定程度上弥补大树的损失,但是一些重要的生态服务功能,如总碳汇,与大树的数量密切相关。因此,大树遗产的保护应该受到重视。为了最大化行道树在促进城市可持续发展中的作用,多生态服务的权衡分析应该整合到行道树的种植和调整规划中。

Ethylenediurea（EDU） pretreatment alleviated the adverse effects of elevated O3 on Populus alba "Berolinensis" in an urban area

Ethylenediurea(EDU)has been used as a chemical protectant against ozone(O3).However,its protective effect and physiological mechanisms are still uncertain.The present study aimed to investigate the changes of foliar visible injury,physiological characteristics and emission rates of volatile organic compounds(VOCs)in one-year-old Populus alba"Berolinensis"saplings pretreated with EDU and exposed to elevated O3(EO,120μg/m3).The results showed that foliar visible injury symptoms under EO were significantly alleviated in plants with EDU application(phetic rate,the maximum photochemical efficiency of PSII and the photochemical efficiency of PSII of plants pretreated with 300 and600 mg/L EDU were similar to unexposed controls and significantly higher compared to EOstressed plants without EDU pretreatment,respectively.Malondialdehyde content was highest in EO without EDU and decreased significantly by 14.9%and 21.3%with 300 and600 mg/L EDU pretreatment,respectively.EDU pretreatment alone increased superoxide dismutase activity by 10-fold in unexposed plants with further increases of 88.4%and 37.5%in EO plants pretreated with 300 and 600 mg/L EDU pretreatment,respectively(phe effect partially reversed by EDU pretreatments.Similarly,VOCs emission rate declined under EO relative to unexposed plants with a recovery of emission rate observed with 300 and 600 mg/L EDU pretreatment.These findings provided significant evidence that EDU exerted a beneficial effect and protection on the tested plants against O3 stress.

Our research focused on eutrophication control and species screening for riparian zone vegetation restoration in the upstream reach of the Hun River. We studied 16 hardwood plant species to investigate nutrient concentrations and nitrogen and phosphorus accumulations. After about 120 days of growth in pots, these 16 species varied in dry matter biomass, ranging from 15.13 to 637.16 g. Total nitrogen （TN） and total phosphorus （TP） concentrations and distribution in roots, stems and foliage differed both within and between tested species. Mean TN and TP accumulation ranged from 0.167 to 14.730 g per plant and from 0.016 to 1.20 g, respectively. All 16 species, but especially Lespedeza bicolor, Robinia pseudoacacia and Sorbaria sorbifolia had strong potential to remove TN and TP from soil and could be widely utilized for the restora- tion of destroyed riparian zones in northeast China.

Spatiotemporal pattern of urban forest leaf area index in response to rapid urbanization and urban greening

Rapid urbanization and urban greening have caused great changes to urban forests in China. Understanding spatiotemporal patterns of urban forest leaf area index(LAI) under rapid urbanization and urban greening is important for urban forest planning and management. We evaluated the potential for estimating urban forest LAI spatiotemporally by using Landsat TM imagery. We collected three scenes of Landsat TM(thematic mapper)images acquired in 1997, 2004 and 2010 and conducted a field survey to collect urban forest LAI. Finally, spatiotemporal maps of the urban forest LAI were created using a NDVI-based urban forest LAI predictive model.Our results show that normalized differential vegetation index(NDVI) could be used as a predictor for urban forest LAI similar to natural forests. Both rapid urbanization and urban greening contribute to the changing process of urban forest LAI. The urban forest has changed considerably from 1997 to 2010. Urban vegetated pixels decreased gradually from 1997 to 2010 due to intensive urbanization.Leaf area for the study area was 216.4, 145.2 and173.7 km~2 in the years 1997, 2004 and 2010, respectively.Urban forest LAI decreased sharply from 1997 to 2004 and increased slightly from 2004 to 2010 because of numerous greening policies. The urban forest LAI class distributions were skewed toward low values in 1997 and 2004. Moreover, the LAI presented a decreasing trend from suburban to downtown areas. We demonstrate the usefulness of TM remote-sensing in understanding spatiotemporal changing patterns of urban forest LAI under rapid urbanization and urban greening.

提出一种新型双体波浪能转换装置,其主体由浮标和可调节质心的摆体构成。利用AQWA进行频域仿真,获取装置的水动力参数,建立含黏性项的多自由度耦合的时域模型,并将水动力参数代入模型,分别开展规则波、不规则波的仿真,研究质心位置、PTO(power take-off)阻尼对装置性能的影响,最终根据真实海况划分若干不规则波并分别开展仿真,研究装置在真实海况下的发电性能。结果表明,装置可通过调节配重位置在不同周期的波浪中高效发电,且装置在小波高情况下也可以有效利用波浪能量,具有持续的发电能力。

Recreational Attractiveness of Urban Parks and Implications for Their Management:A Case Study in Changchun,China

Urban parks are an important part of urban ecosystems and also provide recreational services for urban residents.However,it is still unclear how the recreational attractiveness of urban parks can be evaluated.In this study,12 typical parks in Changchun,China were selected for evaluation of their recreational attractiveness.We built a recreational attractiveness evaluation system based on the analytical hierarchy process(AHP)to produce a composite evaluation index.This method included:1)the landscape quality of the parks;2)the recreational facilities;3)the conditions of the area;and 4)the accessibility of the parks.Our results showed that Nanhu Park,Children’s Park,Shengli Park,and Jingyuetan Forest Park had high recreational attractiveness,whereas Linyuan Park had the lowest attractiveness among the 12 parks.These results agreed with the information obtained from a field survey of the actual recreational and revisit rates,which showed that the evaluation index is reliable.Correlation analysis showed that the landscape quality and recreational facilities of parks had a direct effect on their recreational attractiveness.A negative correlation was found between the accessibility of a park and its recreational attractiveness.We conclude that if the scenery and facilities are not as good as a visitor expects,then they may choose to visit a different park,even if it takes a longer time to reach.

川西北部文兴气区沙溪庙组气藏是典型的致密砂岩气藏,酸化和加砂压裂对提高气藏采收率具有良好效果,注入地层的酸化液和压裂支撑剂在试油期间与原料气混合,通常在试油排采阶段返排回地面直接点火燃烧,资源浪费的同时也有环境伤害的风险。针对传统排采方式在经济环保上的弊端,设计并应用“双分离+双除砂+多级节流+超音速脱水脱烃”放喷天然气回收工艺。该工艺在川西北部文兴气区应用效果表明,采用油管特殊丝扣替代传统钢管焊接,设备安装周期可缩短70%;工艺组合针对排采初期复杂地层返排物除砂、分离效果良好,脱水脱烃后气质达标从而实现成功回收;该放喷天然气回收设备设施能耗较低,是绿色低碳清洁效益开发的重要举措。该工艺在现区块应用过程中取得了较好的经济和社会效益,展现出了较好的推广应用价值。
