Damage of a large-scale reinforced concrete wall caused by an explosively formed projectile(EFP)

Neuronal growth, extension, branching, and formation of neural networks are markedly influenced by the extracellular matrix—a complex network composed of proteins and carbohydrates secreted by cells. In addition to providing physical support for cells, the extracellular matrix also conveys critical mechanical stiffness cues. During the development of the nervous system, extracellular matrix stiffness plays a central role in guiding neuronal growth, particularly in the context of axonal extension, which is crucial for the formation of neural networks. In neural tissue engineering, manipulation of biomaterial stiffness is a promising strategy to provide a permissive environment for the repair and regeneration of injured nervous tissue. Recent research has fine-tuned synthetic biomaterials to fabricate scaffolds that closely replicate the stiffness profiles observed in the nervous system. In this review, we highlight the molecular mechanisms by which extracellular matrix stiffness regulates axonal growth and regeneration. We highlight the progress made in the development of stiffness-tunable biomaterials to emulate in vivo extracellular matrix environments, with an emphasis on their application in neural repair and regeneration, along with a discussion of the current limitations and future prospects. The exploration and optimization of the stiffness-tunable biomaterials has the potential to markedly advance the development of neural tissue engineering.

Numerical Investigations on the Transient Behavior of Sand Waves in Beibu Gulf Under Normal and Extreme Sea Conditions

In this study, a morphodynamic numerical model is established with the Regional Ocean Modeling System(ROMS)to investigate the transient behavior of sand waves under realistic sea conditions. The simulation of sand wave evolution comprises two steps: 1) a regional-scale model is configured first to simulate the ocean hydrodynamics, i.e., tides and tidal currents, and 2) the transient behavior of sand waves is simulated in a small computational domain under the time-variant currents extracted from the large model. The evolution of sand waves on the continental shelf in the Beibu Gulf is specifically investigated. The numerical results of the two-year evolution of sand waves under normal sea conditions compare well with the field survey data. The transient behavior of sand waves in individual months shows that the sand waves are more stable in April and October than that in other months, which can be selected as the windows for seabed operations. The effects of sediment properties, including settling velocity, critical shear stress and surface erosion rate, on sand wave evolution are also analyzed. Then, the typhoon-induced currents are further superimposed on the tidal currents as the extreme weather conditions. Sand waves with the average wavelength generally have more active behavior than smaller or larger sand waves. The characteristics of the evolution of sand waves in an individual typhoon process are quite different for different hydrodynamic combinations. For the storm conditions, i.e., the real combination and maximum combination cases, the sand waves experience a significant migration together with a damping in height due to the dominant suspended sediment transport. For the mild conditions, i.e., the pure tidal current and minimum combination cases, the sand waves migrate less, but the heights continue growing due to the dominant bedload transport.

A facile synthesis of ω-aminoalkyl ammonium hydrogen phosphates

A series of og-aminoalkyl ammonium hydrogen phosphates were synthesized through a simple and efficient three-step method. The starting materials, co-aminoalkyl alcohols （AC-n, with carbon number n = 3, 4, 5, 6）, were amino-protected with 9- fluorenylmethyl chloroformate （Fmoc-C1）, followed by phosphorylation with POCI3 and deprotection in piperidine/DME The structures of each intermediate and final product were confirmed by 1H NMR, FTIR and mass spectrum. The yield of each step was about 77-92%, with a total yield higher than 56%. This new method was superior in low-cost raw materials, mild reaction temperatures （0-25 ℃） and easy purification methods.

Molecular Design of TPD-based Organic A-π-D-π-A Dyes for Dye-sensitized Solar Cells

An interesitng class of organicA-π-D-π-A dyes based on an N,N,N＇,N＇-tetraphenylbenzidine（TPD） unit as donor was designed and synthesized for dye-sensitized solar cells（DSSCs）. TPD-4-based DSSCs gave a short circuit photocurrent density（Jsc） of 16.67 mA/cm2, a open circuit voltage（Voc） of 0.635 V and a fill factor（f/） of 0.68, achieving a solar-to-electricity conversion efficiency（r/） of 7.22% in preliminary tests. The N3-sensitized device gave an η value of 8.02% with a Jsc of 18.81 mA/cm2, a Voc of 0.630 V and anffof 0.68 under the same conditions. The incident photo-to-current efficiency（IPCE） values above 70% observed in a range of 460 to 600 nm with a maximum value of 80% at 500 nm indicate that the TPD-4-based DSSC shows a high performance. Under the same conditions, the DSSC based on N3 provided the IPCE values above 70% in a range of 490 to 580 nm with a maximum value of 76% at 500 nm. both further optimization of the device processing and structural modification of these dyes are an- ticipated to make the device give even better performances.

Independent N-Electron Method and High Accuracy Calculations of the Ground State Energy of the Nonrelativistic Light Atoms (3 Ne 10)

A new method based on the independent electron-pair approximation is developed to calculate the correlation energy and the basis size truncation error. The formalisms for the nondegenerate systems are described in this paper. Because all important terms are very efficiently selected and the calculations can be separated into several parts, this new method gives very accurate results and does not require expensive computing facilities. As a test, the ground state energies (GSE) of the nonrelativistic atoms for (3 ≤ Ne ≤ 10) are calculated using this new method. The calculated results are found to be in close agreement with the most recent available version of the exact GSE which is derived from the experimental data after subtracting the contributions from the relativistic effect, QED radiative corrections, finite nucleon mass corrections, and the finite radius of the nuclear size. Those accurate results have not been reproduced for Ne ≥ 5 by any direct theoretical calculations in literatures. Since this method is not restrained to nonrelativistic or Coulomb systems, it should become powerful to study other quantum interacting systems.
