Supplementation with dimethylglycine sodium salt improves lipid metabolism disorder in intrauterine growth-retarded pigs

This study aims to elucidate the mechanism of lipid metabolism disorder in intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) pigs and the potential alleviating effects of dimethylglycine sodium salt (DMG-Na). A total of 60 male newborn piglets were selected for this study. Within each litter, one normal birth weight (NBW) male piglet (1.53 +/- 0.04 kg) and two IUGR male piglets (0.76 +/- 0.06 kg) were chosen based on their birth weight. The piglets were divided into three groups for the study: NBW pigs received a PBS gavage and a common basal diet (NBW-C group), IUGR pigs received the same PBS gavage and common basal diet (IUGR-C group), and IUGR pigs received a 70-mg DMG-Na gavage along with a common basal diet supplemented with 0.1% DMG-Na (IUGR-D group). At 150 d of age, all piglets underwent euthanasia by exsanguination following electrical stunning, after which plasma, liver, and longissimus dorsi (LM) samples were promptly collected. The IUGR-D group demonstrated improvements in plasma parameters (P < 0.05), with lower triglyceride and free fatty acid (FFA) values, and hormone levels (P < 0.05), with lower growth hormone, insulin, and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance values. Restoration of lipid metabolism was observed (P < 0.05), with lower triglyceride and FFA, and higher hepatic lipase and total lipase values in the liver, and lower triglyceride and FFA values in the LM. Mitochondrial ETC complexes showed increased levels (P < 0.05), including higher complex III values in the liver, and higher complex I, complex III, and complex V values in the LM. Enhanced levels of energy metabolites were noted (P < 0.05), with higher NAD & thorn;, NAD & thorn;/NADH, adenosine triphosphate, and mtDNA values, and lower NADH values in the liver and LM. Additionally, meat quality parameters showed improvement (P < 0.05), with higher pH 24 h and a* values, and lower drip loss 48 h, L*, and b* values. Adhesive hydrogel has drawn great attention for wide applications in wound healing owing to its excellent biocompatibility and lasting ***,traditional adhesive hydrogels only keep the wound moist to promote wound *** is still imperative to fabricate adhesive hydrogels that exhibit efficient antibacterial ability,active driving dynamic wound closure,and reactive oxygen species(ROS)scavenging together with excellent mechanical ***,a novel hydrogel based on poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide)(PNIPAAm),a thermoresponsive polymer,and tannic acid(TA)-Ag nanoparticles(TA-Ag NPs)exhibiting active contraction,tissue adhesion,anti-inflammatory and antibacterial functions was ***-Ag dispersed in the hydrogel not only functioned as the catalyst to polymerize the reaction but also provided additional anti-inflammatory and antibacterial ***,tannic acid containing catechol groups endowed the hydrogel with adhesive *** interestingly,the obtained hydrogel exhibited the thermoresponsive shrinkage ability,which could mechanically drive wound closure due to the presence of PNIPAAm *** vivo mouse full-thickness skin defect model demonstrated that this actively contractible and antibacterial hydrogel is a promising dressing to improve wound healing process by accelerating tissue regeneration and preventing bacterial ***,this multi-functional adhesive hydrogel developed here may provide a new possibility for wound healing.

SCAB1 coordinates sequential Ca^(2+) and ABA signals during osmotic stress induced stomatal closure in Arabidopsis

Fluorinated semi-interpenetrating polymer networks for enhancing the mechanical performance and storage stability of polymer-bonded explosives by controlling curing and phase separation rates

Herein, the effect of fluoropolymer binders on the properties of polymer-bonded explosives(PBXs) was comprehensively investigated. To this end, fluorinated semi-interpenetrating polymer networks(semiIPNs) were prepared using different catalyst amounts(denoted as F23-CLF-30-D). The involved curing and phase separation processes were monitored using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, a haze meter and a rheometer. Curing rate constant and activation energy were calculated using a theoretical model and numerical method, respectively. Results revealed that owing to its co-continuous micro-phase separation structure, the F23-CLF-30-D3 semi-IPN exhibited considerably higher tensile strength and elongation at break than pure fluororubber F2314 and the F23-CLF-30-D0 semi-IPN because the phase separation and curing rates matched in the initial stage of *** arc Brazilian test revealed that F23-CLF-30-D-based composites used as mock materials for PBXs exhibited excellent mechanical performance and storage stability. Thus, the matched curing and phase separation rates play a crucial role during the fabrication of high-performance semi-IPNs;these factors can be feasibly controlled using an appropriate catalyst amount.

Reliability analysis of multimodal scene matching based on correlation peaks

The navigation system plays a pivotal role in guiding aircraft along designated routes, ensuring precise and punctual arrival at destinations. The integration of scene matching with an inertial navigation system enhances the capability of providing a dependable guarantee for successful accomplishment of flight missions. Nonetheless, assuring reliability in scene matching encounters significant challenges in areas characterized by repetitive or weak textures. To tackle these challenges, we propose a novel method to assess the reliability of scene matching based on the distinctive characteristics of correlation peaks. The proposed method leverages the fact that the similarity of the optimal matching result is significantly higher than that of the surrounding area, and three novel indicators (e.g., relative height, slope of a correlation peak, and ratio of a sub peak to the main peak) are determined to conjointly evaluate the reliability of scene matching. The proposed method entails matching a real-time image with a reference image to generate a correlation surface. A correlation peak is then obtained by extracting the portion of the correlation surface exhibiting a significant gradient. Additionally, the matching reliability is determined by considering the relative height, slope, and ratio of the peak collectively. Exhaustive experimental results with two sets of data demonstrate that the proposed method significantly outperforms traditional approaches in terms of precision, recall, and F1-score. These experiments also establish the efficacy of the proposed method in achieving reliable matching in challenging environments characterized by repetitive and weak textures. This enhancement holds the potential to significantly elevate scene-matching-based navigation. A unified fractional flow framework for predicting the liquid holdup in two-phase pipe flows

Two-phase pipe flow occurs frequently in oil & gas industry, nuclear power plants, and CCUS. Reliable calculations of gas void fraction(or liquid holdup) play a central role in two-phase pipe flow models. In this paper we apply the fractional flow theory to multiphase flow in pipes and present a unified modeling framework for predicting the fluid phase volume fractions over a broad range of pipe flow conditions. Compared to existing methods and correlations, this new framework provides a simple,approximate, and efficient way to estimate the phase volume fraction in two-phase pipe flow without invoking flow patterns. Notably, existing correlations for estimating phase volume fraction can be transformed and expressed under this modeling framework. Different fractional flow models are applicable to different flow conditions, and they demonstrate good agreement against experimental data within 5% errors when compared with an experimental database comprising of 2754 data groups from 14literature sources, covering various pipe geometries, flow patterns, fluid properties and flow *** gas void fraction predicted by the framework developed in this work can be used as inputs to reliably model the hydraulic and thermal behaviors of two-phase pipe flows.

The transition to turbulent fluidization in a gas-solid fluidized bed operating from ambient temperature to 1600 °C

Turbulent fluidized bed proves effective in industrial processes due to superior heat and mass transfer and chemical reaction performance. However, understanding the transition to turbulent fluidization remains limited, especially at temperatures exceeding 1000 degrees C, making it challenging to develop hightemperature fluidized bed applications. This paper presents an experimental investigation on the turbulent fluidization onset velocity (Uc), measured in a 30 mm diameter bed using corundum particles with average diameters from 0.68 mm to 1.58 mm in temperatures from ambient to 1600 degrees C. Experimental results reveal that Uc increases with temperature up to 600 degrees C, stabilizes within the 600-1200 degrees C range, and then decreases above 1200 degrees C, demonstrating the varying relative significance of hydrodynamic and interparticle forces at different temperatures. To help design and operate high-temperature applications of turbulent fluidization, we developed Uc correlations based on experimental data from both literature sources and this study, covering temperatures of up to 1600 degrees C and particles of Groups A to D.

Conceptual design and configurations selection of S/H-UAVs based on Q-rung dual hesitant double layer FQFD

For the conceptual design phase of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), a process for conceptual design and configuration selection of Solar/Hydrogen powered UAVs (S/H-UAVs) is proposed. The design requirements of S/H-UAVs were analyzed firstly. The proposed process used Fuzzy Quality Function Deployment (FQFD) to establish logical and quantitative standards. Moreover, in order to appropriately describe the hesitancy of experts while making decision, it used Q-Rung Dual Hesitant Fuzzy Sets (QRDHFS) to score the correlationships. In addition, a decisionmaking framework is proposed to perform a logical selection of typical layouts based on defuzzification method and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to the Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). The present process has been applied for S/H-UAVs. The resulting set of design requirements consists of three categories: Mission Requirements (MRs), Engineering Characteristics (ECs) and Technical Indicators (TIs). Four typical layouts of S/H-UAVs were sorted and determined. The performance of four typical layouts were evaluated and the Strut-Braced Wing (SBW) with external hydrogen storage was selected as the best layout for S/H-UAVs. The utilization of nanoporous copper(np-Cu)as a metallic actuator has gained attention in recent years due to its cost-effectiveness in comparison to other precious *** this,the enhancement of np-Cu’s actuation performance remains a challenge due to limitations in its strain amplitude and actuation ***,np-Cu has been deemed as a promising material for solar absorption due to its localized surface plasmon resonance ***,practical applications such as solar steam generators(SSGs)utilizing np-Cu have yet to be *** this study,we present the development of hierarchically nanoporous copper(HNC)through the dealloying of a eutectic Al-Cu *** hierarchical structure of the HNC features a combination of ordered flat channels and randomly distributed continuous nanopores,which work in synergy to improve actuation *** ordered flat channels,with a sub-micron scale,facilitate rapid mass transport of electrolyte ions,while the nano-sized continuous pores,due to their large specific surface area,enhance the induced *** results indicate that the HNC exhibits improved actuation performance,with a two times increase in both strain amplitude and rate in comparison to other reported ***,the HNC,for the first time,showcases excellent solar steam generation capabilities,with an evaporation rate of 1.47 kg·m^(-2)·h^(-1) and a photothermal conversion efficiency of 92%under a light intensity of 1 kW·m^(-2),which rivals that of nanoporous gold and silver *** enhanced actuation performance and newly discovered solar steam generation properties of the HNC are attributed to its hierarchically porous structure.
