Unraveling the hydraulic properties of loess for landslide prediction:A study on variations in loess landslides in Lanzhou,Dingxi,and Tianshui,China

Loess has distinctive characteristics,leading to frequent landslide disasters and posing serious threats to the lives and properties of local re sidents.The involvement of water repre sents a critical factor in inducing loess landslides.This study focuses on three neighboring cities sequentially situated on the Loess Plateau along the direction of aeolian deposition of loess,namely Lanzhou,Dingxi,and Tianshui,which are densely populated and prone to landslide disasters.The variations in hydraulic properties,including water retention capacity and permeability,are investigated through Soil Water Characteristic Curve(SWCC)test and hydraulic conductivity test.The experimental findings revealed that Tianshui loess exhibited the highest water retention capacity,followed by Dingxi loess,while Lanzhou loess demonstrated the lowest water retention capacity.Contrastingly,the results for the saturated permeability coefficient were found to be the opposite:Tianshui loess showed the lowest permeability,whereas Lanzhou loess displayed the highest permeability.These results are supported and analyzed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)observation.In addition,the water retention capacity is mathematically expressed using the van Genuchten model and extended to predict unsaturated hydraulic properties of loess.The experimental results exhibit a strong accordance with one another and align with the regional distribution patterns of disasters.

Frame and rocking wall(FRW)structures have excellent resilient performance during earthquakes.However,the concrete at interfacial corners of rocking walls(RWs)is easily crushed due to local extreme compression during the rocking process.An innovative RW with a curved interface is proposed to prevent interfacial corners from producing local damage,enhancing its earthquake resilient performance(ERP).The precast wall panel with a curved interface is assembled into an integral self-centering hybrid rocking wall(SCRW)by two post-tensioned unbonded prestressed tendons.Moreover,two ordinary energy dissipation steel rebars and two shear reinforcements are arranged to increase the energy dissipation capacity and lateral resistance.Two SCRW specimens and one monolithic reinforced concrete(RC)shear wall(SW)were tested under pseudo-static loading to compare the ERPs of the proposed SCRW and the SW,focusing on studying the effect of the curved interface on the SCRW.The key resilient performance of rocking effects,failure modes,and hysteretic properties of the SCRW were explored.The results show that nonlinear deformations of the SCRW are concentrated along the interface between the SCRW and the foundation,avoiding damage within the SCRW.The restoring force provided by the prestressed tendons can effectively realize self-centering capacity with small residual deformation,and the resilient performance of the SCRW is better than that of monolithic SW.In addition,the curved interface of the SCRW makes the rocking center change and move inward,partially relieving the stress concentration and crush of concrete.The rocking range of the rocking center is about 41.4%of the width of the SCRW.

Nano-enabled silicone-rubber articles for feeding or chewing could be a source of metallic nanoparticles(NPs)directly exposed to infants and young children.However,the impact of steam disinfection on release of NPs and the related potential risks to children's health are unknown.Here,we investigated contents and form of Ag and Zn in 57 nano-enabled silicone-rubber baby bottle teats,pacifiers,and teethers of seven countries and examined the impacts of steam disinfection on in vitro bioaccessibility(IVBA)of Ag and Zn in the articles.Nearly 89%articles had a mixture of Ag-and Zn-containing NPs and the teethers had relatively high Ag and Zn contents(up to 501 and 254μg/g,respectively).Steam disinfection caused rubber decomposition into micro(nano)plastics(0.54-15.7μm)and NP release from the interior of bulk rubber and micro-sized plastics,thus enhancing the IVBA of Ag and Zn by up to 5.5 times.The findings provide insights into mechanisms for NP release by steam disinfection.Though oral exposure risk assessment suggested low health concerns on individual metal release,our study points out the need to assess the potential health risks of child co-exposure to metallic NPs and micro(nano)plastics.

Generally,layered Ni-rich cathode materials exhibit the morphology of polycrystalline secondary sphere composed of numerous primary particles.While the arrangement of primary particles plays a very important role in the properties of Ni-rich cathodes.The disordered particle arrangement is harmful to the cyclic performance and structural stability,yet the fundamental understanding of disordered structure on the structural degradation behavior is unclarified.Herein,we have designed three kinds of LiNi_(0.83)Co_(0.06)Mn_(0.11)O_(2) cathode materials with different primary particle orientations by regulating the precursor coprecipitation process.Combining finite element simulation and in-situ characterization,the Li^(+)transport and structure evolution behaviors of different materials are unraveled.Specifically,the smooth Li^(+)diffusion minimizes the reaction heterogeneity,homogenizes the phase transition within grains,and mitigates the anisotropic microstructural change,thereby modulating the crack evolution behavior.Meanwhile,the optimized structure evolution ensures radial tight junctions of the primary particles,enabling enhanced Li^(+)diffusion during dynamic processes.Closed-loop bidirectional enhancement mechanism becomes critical for grain orientation regulation to stabilize the cyclic performance.This precursor engineering with particle orientation regulation provides the useful guidance for the structural design and feature enhancement of Ni-rich layered cathodes.

In order to study the degradation process of dioxins in industrial flue gas,the decomposition of o-dichlorobenzene(o-DCB)in a DBD plasma catalytic reactor was investigated.The results showed that an NTP-catalyzed system,especially using the Cu Mn Ti Oxcatalyst,had better o-DCB degradation performance compared to plasma alone.The combination of the Cu Mn Ti Oxcatalyst with NTP can achieve a degradation efficiency of up to 97.2%for o-DCB;the selectivity of CO and CO_(2)and the carbon balance were 40%,45%,and 85%,respectively.The dielectric constant and electrical property results indicated that the surface discharge capacity of the catalysts played a major role in the degradation of o-DCB,and a higher dielectric constant could suppress the plasma expansion and enhance the duration of the plasma discharge per discharge cycle.According to the O1s XPS and O_(2)-TPD results,the conversion of CO to CO_(2)follows the M-v-K mechanism;thus,the active species on the catalyst surface play an important role.Moreover,the Cu Mn Ti Oxand NTP mixed system exhibited excellent stability,which is probably because Cu doping improved the lifetime of the catalyst.This work can provide an experimental and theoretical basis for research in the degradation of o-DCB by plasma catalyst systems.

In this work,we sought to investigate constrained docking control during shipborne SideArm recovery of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)under preassigned safe docking constraints,rough ocean environments,and different initial positions.The aim was to solve the UAV tracking-lag problem that manifests when attempting to dock with a rapidly moving SideArm and to improve the accuracy and rapidity of docking.First,together with the formulations of the shipborne SideArm system and environmental airflows,the affine nonlinear dynamics of the hook was established to reduce tracking lag.Then,echo state network approximators with good approximation capacity and low computational consumption were designed to accurately approximate the UAV’s unknown nonlinear dynamics.With feedforward compensation provided by these approximators,a nonlinear-mapping-based constrained docking control law was developed for shipborne SideArm recovery of UAVs.This approach to controlling the docking trajectory and the forward docking speed of the UAV can achieve rapid and exact docking with a moving SideArm,without violating the preassigned safe docking-constraint envelopes.Simulations under different docking scenarios were used to validate the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed docking-control algorithm.

BACKGROUND Within the normal range,elevated alanine aminotransferase(ALT)levels are associated with an increased risk of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD).AIM To investigate the associations between repeated high-normal ALT measurements and the risk of new-onset MAFLD prospectively.METHODS A cohort of 3553 participants followed for four consecutive health examinations over 4 years was selected.The incidence rate,cumulative times,and equally and unequally weighted cumulative effects of excess high-normal ALT levels(ehALT)were measured.Cox proportional hazards regression was used to analyse the association between the cumulative effects of ehALT and the risk of new-onset MAFLD.REsuLTS A total of 83.13%of participants with MAFLD had normal ALT levels.The incidence rate of MAFLD showed a linear increasing trend in the cumulative ehALT group.Compared with those in the low-normal ALT group,the multivariate adjusted hazard ratios of the equally and unequally weighted cumulative effects of ehALT were 1.651[95%confidence interval(CI):1.199-2.273]and 1.535(95%CI:1.119-2.106)in the third quartile and 1.616(95%CI:1.162-2.246)and 1.580(95%CI:1.155-2.162)in the fourth quartile,respectively.CONCLUSION Most participants with MAFLD had normal ALT levels.Long-term high-normal ALT levels were associated with a cumulative increased risk of new-onset MAFLD.

Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)is an extremely important analytical technique that is widely used in organic geochemistry.It is the only approach to capture biomarker features of organic matter and provides the key evidence for oil-source correlation and thermal maturity determination.However,the conventional way of processing and interpreting the mass chromatogram is both timeconsuming and labor-intensive,which increases the research cost and restrains extensive applications of this method.To overcome this limitation,a correlation model is developed based on the convolution neural network(CNN)to link the mass chromatogram and biomarker features of samples from the Triassic Yanchang Formation,Ordos Basin,China.In this way,the mass chromatogram can be automatically interpreted.This research first performs dimensionality reduction for 15 biomarker parameters via the factor analysis and then quantifies the biomarker features using two indexes(i.e.MI and PMI)that represent the organic matter thermal maturity and parent material type,respectively.subsequently,training,interpretation,and validation are performed multiple times using different CNN models to optimize the model structure and hyper-parameter setting,with the mass chromatogram used as the input and the obtained MI and PMI values for supervision(label).The optimized model presents high accuracy in automatically interpreting the mass chromatogram,with R2values typically above 0.85 and0.80 for the thermal maturity and parent material interpretation results,respectively.The significance of this research is twofold:(i)developing an efficient technique for geochemical research;(ii)more importantly,demonstrating the potential of artificial intelligence in organic geochemistry and providing vital references for future related studies.

This work presents a route for the study on the absorption performance of gas into liquid under the condition of adding particles in a stirred constant temperature reactor.Two evaluated systems,hydrogen–water and hydrogen–methanol,with the addition of activated carbon particles(ACP)were carried out,respectively.The results showed that the addition of ACP into the water can enhance the mass transfer between hydrogen and water,the enhancement factor increases rapidly with the increase of the ACP content,and then tends to be unchanged.However,for the hydrogen–methanol system,ACP has little effect on the mass transfer performance.In addition,a gas–liquid mass transfer model considering the effect of solid particle enhancement was established based on the shuttle effect and two-film model.Results indicated that the predicted value agreed well with the experimental value in both hydrogen–methanol–ACP and hydrogen–water–ACP systems.
