Atypical skeletal manifestations of rickets in a familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia patient

Familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia （FHH） is caused by inactivating mutations in the calcium-sensing receptor （CaSR） gene. The loss of function of CaSR presents with rickets as the predominant skeletal abnormality in mice, but is rarely reported in humans. Here we report a case of a 16-year-old boy with FHH who presented with skeletal manifestations of rickets. To identify the possible pathogenic mutation, the patient was evaluated clinically, biochemically, and radiographicaUy. The patient and his family members were screened for genetic mutations. Physical examination revealed a pigeon breast deformity and X-ray examinations showed epiphyseal broadening, both of which indicate rickets. Biochemical tests also showed increased parathyroid hormone （PTH）, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, and elevated ionized calcium. Based on these results, a diagnosis of FHH was suspected. Sequence analysis of the patient＇s CaSR gene revealed a new missense mutation （c.2279T 〉 A） in exon 7, leading to the damaging amino change （p.I760N） in the mature CaSR protein, confirming the diagnosis of ~H. Moreover, the skeletal abnormities may be related to but not limited to vitamin D abnormity. Elevated ~H levels and a rapid skeletal growth period in adolescence may have also contributed. Our study revealed that rickets-like features have a tendency to present atypically in FHH patients who have a mild vitamin D deficiency, and that CaSR mutations may have a partial role in the pathogenesis of skeletal deformities.

The regional air quality modeling system RAMS-CMAQ(Regional Atmospheric Modeling System and Models-3 Community Multi-scale Air Quality) was developed by incorporating a vegetation photosynthesis and respiration module(VPRM) and used to simulate temporal-spatial variations in atmospheric CO2 concentrations in East Asia,with prescribed surface CO2 fluxes(i.e.,fossil fuel emission,biomass burning,sea-air CO2 exchange,and terrestrial biosphere CO2 flux).Comparison of modeled CO2 mixing ratios with eight ground-based in-situ measurements demonstrated that the model was able to capture most observed CO2 temporal-spatial *** CO2 concentrations were generally in good agreement with observed *** indicated that the accumulated impacts of anthropogenic emissions contributed more to increased CO2 concentrations in urban regions relative to remote ***,RAMS-CMAQ analysis demonstrates that surface CO2 concentrations in East Asia are strongly influenced by terrestrial ecosystems.

Routing protocol based on social characteristics for opportunistic networks

Opportunistic networks are derived from delay tolerant networks, where mobile nodes have no end-to-end connections. Nodes are represented by people, which means that opportunistic networks can be regarded as social networks. Human mobility plays an important role in affecting the performance of forwarding protocols in social networks, furthermore, the trajectory of people＇s movements are driven by social characteristics. However, current routing protocols rely on simple mobility models, and rarely consider social characteristics. Considering two heterogeneous network models, an social opportunistic networks routing（SONR） was proposed which brings an adapted discrete Markov chain into nodes＇ mobility model and calculates the transition probability between successive status. Comparison was made between Spray, Wait and Epidemic protocol. Simulation show that SONR can improve performance on delivery ratio, delivery latency and network overhead, meanwhile. SONR approaches the performance of Epidemic routing.

In order to investigate the in vitro biocompatibility of a novel polyurethane （PU） membrane modified by incorporation of superfine silk-fibroin powder （SFP）, which was prepared for small-diameter vascular grafts, with the cultivation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells （HUVECs）, PU and SFP were mixed with the ratios of 9：1, 7：3, 5：5, 3：7 （PU：SFP） to make four composite materials. Unmodified PU and polytetrafluoroethylene （PTFE） were added as control groups. CCK-8 assay was used to evaluate the cytotoxicity of these biomaterials. Data were processed using SPSS, and P〈 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Adherence and spreading of HUVECs on the surface of specimens was observed using direct contact cultivation. The toxicity ratings of the novel composites were grade 0-1, which is in the acceptable range. In all the experimental groups except control, SFP/PU with ratio of 1：9 had the least cytotoxicity property, and more content of SFP in the composite showed no improvement of the biocompatibility. HUVECs strongly attached to and grew on the surface of the biomaterials, and proliferated rapidly. The proliferation ability increased with increased proportion of SFP; however the cell quantity on the surface of the materials decreased when the proportion of SFP was equal to or larger than that of PU in the composite. It is concluded that this novel material has excellent cellular affinity with no cytotoxicity to HUVECs. Adding SFP gives PU better biocompatibility, while further research on optimum blend ratios is still needed.

Polarization-sensitive photodetection and imaging have great application value in fields such as polarization division multiplexing optical communication,remote sensing,near-field imaging and military *** a high polarization ratio has always been the research hotspot in polarization-sensitive *** this paper,we report a compression strain enhanced polarization ratio inβ-gallium oxide(β-Ga_(2)O_(3))single crystal flake.A rigorous crystallographic analysis confirmed its high crystalline quality and ***-resolved polarization Raman spectroscopy(ARPRS)was adopted to study the anisotropy of its optical *** ARPRS measurements and theoretical calculation consistently demonstrate the strong optical anisotropy in the high-qualityβ-Ga_(2)O_(3)flake.A polarization ratio of 0.96 was obtained in the flatβ-Ga_(2)O_(3)***,mechanical strain of±0.7%was introduced intoβ-Ga_(2)O_(3).An increased polarization ratio of 0.98 was achieved in the case of 0.7%compression strain,which is,to the best of our knowledge,the highest value for UVC polarization-sensitive *** corresponds to an improved polarization rejection ratio of *** work proposed a new path towards improving polarization sensitivity by applying strain engineering in the active material.

Introduction Magnesium sulfate is an archetypal 2-2 salt that plays a central role in defining the characteristics of higher valent electrolyte solutions and its solution has been widely used to test various theories of strong electrolyte behavior and to develop models of ion association in solution. Up to now, the ion pairs of magnesium sulfate in an aqueous solution have been widely investigated by using different experimental techniques, such as conductometry , cryoscopy potentiometry solubility and Raman spectrometry. However, to our knowledge, no measurement of the standard association constant of the ion pairs, [ MgSO4 ]^0 in a glucosewater mixed solvent is available.

BACKGROUND The phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase-B/mechanistic target of rapamycin(PI3K/Akt/mTOR) signalling pathway is crucial for cell survival, differentiation, apoptosis and metabolism. Xihuang pills(XHP) are a traditional Chinese preparation with antitumour properties. They inhibit the growth of breast cancer, glioma, and other tumours by regulating the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signalling pathway. However, the effects and mechanisms of action of XHP in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) remain unclear. Regulation of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signalling pathway effectively inhibits the progression of HCC. However, no study has focused on the XHPassociated PI3K/Akt/mTOR signalling pathway. Therefore, we hypothesized that XHP might play a role in inhibiting HCC through the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signalling *** To confirm the effect of XHP on HCC and the possible mechanisms *** The chemical constituents and active components of XHP were analysed using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS). Cellbased experiments and in vivo xenograft tumour experiments were utilized to evaluate the effect of XHP on HCC tumorigenesis. First, SMMC-7721 cells were incubated with different concentrations of XHP(0, 0.3125, 0.625, 1.25, and 2.5 mg/mL) for 12 h, 24 h and 48 h. Cell viability was assessed using the CCK-8 assay, followed by an assessment of cell migration using a wound healing ***, the effect of XHP on the apoptosis of SMMC-7721 cells was evaluated. SMMC-7721 cells were stained with fluorescein isothiocyanate and annexin V/propidium iodide. The number of apoptotic cells and cell cycle distribution were measured using flow cytometry. Spatial and temporal variations in nitrogen retention effects in a subtropical mountainous basin in Southeast China

Nitrogen retention within a watershed reduces the amount of N exported to the ocean;however, it worsens environmental problems, including surface water eutrophication, aquifer pollution, acid rain, and soil acidification. Here, we adopted the Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT) model to describe the riverine N output and retention effects in the Shanmei Reservoir Basin, a subtropical mountainous basin located in Quanzhou City, Southeast China. The results revealed that farmlands and orchards in the upstream and central parts of the basin were the dominant land use types, which contributed large N yields. Fertilizer application was the key source of riverine N output and N retention within the basin. On average, approximately 64% of anthropogenic N inputs were retained within the basin, whereas 36% of total N was exported to the downstream and coastal areas. The average N retention efficiency was 80% in a dry year, and within the year, N retention occurred in spring and summer and N release occurred in autumn and winter. The annual variation in N retention within the basin was largely dominated by changes in rainfall and runoff, whereas the seasonal characteristics of N retention were mainly affected by fertilization. Even with a large decrease in fertilizer application, owing to the contributions of the residual N pool and river background, the riverine N output still maintained a certain base value. The effects of precipitation, land use types, and agricultural fertilizer on N retention should be comprehensively considered to implement reasonable N management measures.
