Macromolecular crystallography beamline BL17U1 at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility has been relocated,upgraded,and given a new ID(BL02U1).It now delivers X-rays in the energy range of 6–16 keV,with a focused beam of 11.6μm×4.8μm and photon flux greater than 1012 phs/*** high credibility and stability of the beam and good timing synchronization of the equipment significantly improve the experimental *** June 2021,when it officially opened to users,over 4200 h of beamtime have been provided to over 200 research groups to collect data at the *** good performance and stable operation have led to the resolution of several structures based on data collected at the beamline.

AIM:To evaluate retinal nerve fiber layer thickness and retinal vascular caliber alterations in coal mine ***:The community-based observational crosssectional study included 4004 participants of a subpopulation of the Kailuan *** the study participants underwent structured interviews with a standardized questionnaire,fundus photography and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography(OCT)examinations performed by trained ***:The retinal nerve fiber layer thickness was significantly higher(P=0.006)and the central macular thickness was lower in coal miners(n=659,51.0±7.8 y)as compared to the control(working above the ground;n=477,51.8±7.5 y;P=0.032).Additionally,the downhole workers showed a significantly thicker retinal artery(P=0.012)and vein diameters(P<0.001).In multivariable regression,a thicker retinal nerve fiber layer was associated with a higher cumulative silica dust exposure(P=0.005)after adjusting for younger age and larger spherical *** a reverse pattern,a higher cumulative silica dust exposure(P=0.004)was significantly associated with a thicker retinal nerve fiber layer after adjusting for age,high-density lipoproteins and uric *** retinal vein diameters were associated with higher cumulative silica dust exposure(P=0.036)after adjusting for younger age and larger spherical ***:The retinal vessels diameters and retinal nerve fiber layer thickness are significantly thicker in long term of coal *** results of our study indicate that underground working environment may lead to retinal vessel dilation and ***,ocular examination might be needed within coal miners in order to monitor the occupational eye health as well as the incidence and progression of eye diseases.

The soybean aphid Aphis glycines Matsumura （Hemiptera： Aphididae） is an important pest of soybean in China. To monitor and manage this pest effectively it is neces-sary to understand its population dynamics and demographics, as well as the physiological responses of soybean plants to its feeding. In this study, using field surveying and suction-trap monitoring, we investigated the population dynamics of the soybean aphid in Xiuyan County, Liaoning Province in northeastern China during 2009-2012. The results indicatedthat the population dynamics of the soybean aphid followed a unimodal curve distribution, with the insect generally colonizing soybean fields from the middle of June to early Julyand the population reaching a peak between early July and early August. On the whole, soybean aphids occurred in suction-traps at least 2 weeks earlier than they were foundin field surveys. A total of 72 alates were collected by suction-trapping over the 4 years, with the earliest alate captures occurring on 28 May in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 4 June in 2010. The life table parameters clearly showed that this aphid had a short doubling time （4.73 ± 0.21 days）, and 7.36± 0.98 nymphs were produced by a soybean aphid adult during its lifetime （13.57 ± 0.30 days）. Finally, biochemical assays indicated that the amount of malondialdehyde and the activities of four defense-related enzymes in soybean leavessignificantly changed between 0 day and 7 days of aphid infestation. Polyphenol oxidase （PPO） and catalase （CAT） activities increased more dramatically after 1 day of aphid feed-ing. In addition, significantly higher levels of superoxide dismutase and CAT were found after aphid feeding for 7 days, whereas there was no significant change in the activitiesof peroxidase and PPO. Consequently, this study will be beneficial in determining the seasonal occurrence of the soybean aphid and selecting insect-resistant soybean varieties,and thus in developing a theoretical framework for appropriate m

The gut microbiota significantly influences host physiology and provides essential ecosystem *** diet can affect the composition of the gut microbiota,the gut microbiota can also help the host adapt to specific dietary *** carrion crow(Corvus corone),an urban facultative scavenger bird,hosts an abundance of pathogens due to its scavenging *** this,carrion crows infrequently exhibit illness,a phenomenon related to their unique physiological *** present,however,the role of the gut microbiota remains incompletely *** this study,we performed a comparative analysis using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing technology to assess colonic content in carrion crows and 16 other bird species with different diets in Beijing,*** findings revealed that the dominant gut microbiota in carrion crows was primarily composed of Proteobacteria(75.51%)and Firmicutes(22.37%).Significant differences were observed in the relative abundance of Enterococcus faecalis among groups,highlighting its potential as a biomarker of facultative scavenging behavior in carrion ***,*** isolated from carrion crows was transplanted into model mice to explore the protective effects of this bacterial community against Salmonella enterica *** showed that *** down-regulated the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α),interferon gamma(IFN-γ),and interleukin 6(IL-6),prevented *** colonization,and regulated the composition of gut microbiota in mice,thereby modulating the host’s immune regulatory ***,*** exerts immunoregulatory and anti-pathogenic functions in carrion crows engaged in scavenging behavior,offering a representative case of how the gut microbiota contributes to the protection of hosts with specialized diets.

Mercury(Hg)enrichments in ancient sediments have been used as a proxy of volcanism,especially large igneous province(LIP)***,considering the existence of other potential Hg sources besides volcanoes and the diverse factors(e.g.,organic matters,clay minerals,sulfide minerals and Fe oxides)that can affect Hg sequestration,there are considerable uncertainties to simply regard sedimentary Hg anomalies as signatures of volcanic *** stable isotopes,a promising tool for tracing the origins and transformations of Hg,have been increasingly used for determining the causes of Hg spikes and understanding the geochemical behavior of Hg in the geologic *** date,lots of researches have applied Hg concentrations and Hg isotopes to identify LIP volcanisms linking with significant geological events such as mass extinctions,ocean anoxic events and other environmental perturbations that mainly occurred in the ***,the results in previous studies clearly show that not all Hg enrichments are derived from volcanic inputs,which emphasize the need for more caution in using Hg as a fingerprint of *** a better understanding of Hg isotopes in the future,there will be important implications for Hg isotopes to reconstruct volcanic activities in the rock records and their impacts on biological evolution.

●AIM:To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of scleral buckling for the treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD)using a novel foldable capsular buckle(FCB).●METHODS:This was a series of case observation *** patients(18 eyes)who visited our ophthalmology department between August 2020 and August 2022 and were treated for RRD with scleral buckling using FCB were *** procedure was similar to conventional scleral buckling,while a balloon-like FCB was placed onto the retinal break with balanced salt solution filling for a broad,external indentation instead of the silicone *** retinal reattachment rate,best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),intraocular pressure(IOP),refractive dioptre and astigmatism degree,and complications were evaluated and recorded.●RESULTS:There were 7 males and 11 females aged *** average time course of RRD was 12d,ranging from *** retinal break was located in the superior quadrants in 8 eyes and in the inferior quadrants in 10 eyes,with macula-off detachments in 12 *** patients were followed-up for at least *** final retinal reattachment rate was 100%.The BCVA was significantly improved compared with the baseline(P0.05).Three patients had transiently high IOPs within one week after *** diplopia occurred in 5 patients after surgery and then disappeared after the balloon fluid was removed.●CONCLUSION:The success rate of FCB scleral buckling for RRD is *** procedure can be expected to be applied in new,uncomplicated cases of RRD.

Resilient performance of self-centering hybrid rocking walls with curved interface under pseudo-static loading

Frame and rocking wall(FRW)structures have excellent resilient performance during ***,the concrete at interfacial corners of rocking walls(RWs)is easily crushed due to local extreme compression during the rocking *** innovative RW with a curved interface is proposed to prevent interfacial corners from producing local damage,enhancing its earthquake resilient performance(ERP).The precast wall panel with a curved interface is assembled into an integral self-centering hybrid rocking wall(SCRW)by two post-tensioned unbonded prestressed ***,two ordinary energy dissipation steel rebars and two shear reinforcements are arranged to increase the energy dissipation capacity and lateral *** SCRW specimens and one monolithic reinforced concrete(RC)shear wall(SW)were tested under pseudo-static loading to compare the ERPs of the proposed SCRW and the SW,focusing on studying the effect of the curved interface on the *** key resilient performance of rocking effects,failure modes,and hysteretic properties of the SCRW were *** results show that nonlinear deformations of the SCRW are concentrated along the interface between the SCRW and the foundation,avoiding damage within the *** restoring force provided by the prestressed tendons can effectively realize self-centering capacity with small residual deformation,and the resilient performance of the SCRW is better than that of monolithic *** addition,the curved interface of the SCRW makes the rocking center change and move inward,partially relieving the stress concentration and crush of *** rocking range of the rocking center is about 41.4%of the width of the SCRW.
