Model test and numerical simulation on the dynamic stability of the bedding rock slope under frequent microseisms

Shake table testing was performed to investigate the dynamic stability of a mid-dip bedding rock slope under frequent earthquakes. Then, numerical modelling was established to further study the slope dynamic stability under purely microseisms and the influence of five factors, including seismic amplitude, slope height, slope angle, strata inclination and strata thickness, were considered. The experimental results show that the natural frequency of the slope decreases and damping ratio increases as the earthquake loading times increase. The dynamic strength reduction method is adopted for the stability evaluation of the bedding rock slope in numerical simulation, and the slope stability decreases with the increase of seismic amplitude, increase of slope height, reduction of strata thickness and increase of slope angle. The failure mode of a mid-dip bedding rock slope in the shaking table test is integral slipping along the bedding surface with dipping tensile cracks at the slope rear edge going through the bedding surfaces. In the numerical simulation, the long-term stability of a mid-dip bedding slope is worst under frequent microseisms and the slope is at risk of integral sliding instability, whereas the slope rock mass is more broken than shown in the shaking table test. The research results are of practical significance to better understand the formation mechanism of reservoir landslides and prevent future landslide disasters.

The damage evolution behavior of polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete subjected to sulfate attack based on acoustic emission

To study the damage evolution behavior of polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete(PFRC)subjected to sulfate attack,a uniaxial compression test was carried out based on acoustic emission(AE).The effect of sulfate attack relative to time and fiber hybridization were analyzed and the compression damage factor was calculated using a mathematical *** changes to AE ringing counts during the compression could be divided into compaction,elastic,and AE signal hyperactivity *** the initial stage of sulfate attack,the concrete micropores and microcracks were compacted gradually under external load and a corrosion products filling effect,and this corresponded with detection of few AE signals and with concrete compression strength *** increasing sulfate attack time,AE activity *** cumulative AE ringing counts of PFRC at all corrosion ages were much higher than those for plain *** could still produce AE signals after peak load due to drawing effect of polypropylene *** 150 d of sulfate attack,the cumulative AE ringing counts of plain concrete went down by about an order of magnitude,while that for PFRC remained at a high *** initial damage factor of hybrid PFRC was-0.042 and-0.056 respectively after 150 d of corrosion,indicating that the advantage of hybrid polypropylene fiber was more obvious than plain concrete and single-doped *** on a deterioration equation,the corrosion resistance coefficient of hybrid PFRC would be less than 0.75 after 42 drying-wetting sulfate attack cycles,which was 40%longer than that of plain concrete.

Mathematical Model of the Geothermal Water Resources in the South Hot Spring System in Chongqing

The geothermal waters of south hot spring, small hot spring and Qiaokouba in Chongqing, are all part of the south hot spring geothermal water system. Exploitation has caused a decline in the water levels of the south and small hot springs, which have not flowed naturally for 15 years. Now, bores pump geothermal water to the springs. If the water level drops below the elevation of the rivers, river-water will replenish the geothermal water, destroying this resource. It is therefore an urgent task to model the geothermal water system, to enable sustainable development and continued use of the geothermal water in Qiaokouba. A numerical simulation of the geothermal water system was adopted and a quantitative study on the planning scheme was carried out. A mathematical model was set up to simulate the whole geothermal water system, based on data from the research sites. The model determined the maximum sustainable water yield in Qiaokouba and the two hot springs, and the south hot spring and small hot spring sustainable yields are 1 100 m^3/d and 700 m^3/d from 2006 to 2010, 1 300 m^3/d and 1 000 m^3/d from 2011 to 2015, and 1 500 m^3/d and 1 200 m^3/d from 2016 to 2036. The maximum exploitable yield is 3 300 m^3/d from 2006 to 2036 in Qiaokouba. The model supplies a basis to adequately exploit and effectively protect the geothermal water resources, and to continue to develop the geothermal water as a tourist attraction in Chongqing.

A novel inexpensive conductive material:Er-modified maifanite by gaseous penetration technology

Aiming to solve the problem of corrosion and high cost of the conductive fillers, the powders with the properties of anti-oxidation, corrosion resistance and thermal stability should be developed. A new modification technology, rare earth gaseous penetration, was applied to enhance the conductivity of maifanite in this paper, and the mechanism for improving the conductivity of maifanite effectively was speculated in detail for the variations of the composition, structure and morphology between the original and Er-penetration maifanite powders. The results of the resistivity show that Er-penetration can really improve the conductivity of maifanite powders. When the penetration temperature is 500 ℃, the resistivity of maifanite surprisingly declines to 93.2 Ω·m. Moreover, XRD and XPS patterns display that the cations in maifanite are substituted by Er^(3+) successfully, resulting in the production of electrons in the system, which is the key reason to heighten the conductivity of maifanite. Most importantly, Erpenetration maifanite, whose price is really low, can replace the expensive conductive powders and be used in the electronic industry to decrease the cost of the electronic devices.

A semi-infinite beam theoretical model on predicting rock slope subsidence induced by underground mining

When the mining goaf is close to the cliff,rock slope subsidence induced by underground mining is significantly affected by its boundary *** this study,an analytical method is proposed by considering the key strata as a semi-infinite Euler-Bernoulli beam rested on a Winkler foundation with a local subsidence *** analytical solutions of deflection are derived by analyzing the boundary and continuity conditions of the ***,the analytical solutions are verified by the results from experimental tests,FEM and InSAR,*** that,the influence of changing parameters on deflections is studied with sensitivity *** results show that the distance between goaf and cliff significantly affects the deflection of semi-infinite *** response of semi-infinite beam is obviously determined by the length of goaf and the bending stiffness of *** comparisons between semi-infinite beam and infinite beam illustrate the ascendancy of the improved model in such problems.

Dynamic damage evolution of bank slopes with serrated structural planes considering the deteriorated rock mass and frequent reservoirinduced earthquakes

Stability of bedded rock slopes subjected to hydro-fluctuation and associated strength deterioration

Reservoir-induced earthquakes(RIEs)occur frequently in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area(TGRA)and the rock mass strength of the hydro-fluctuation belt(HFB)deteriorates severely due to the reservoirinduced seismic *** models of typical bedded rock slopes(BRSs),***(GIS),moderately(MIS),and steeply(SIS)inclined slopes,were proposed according to field *** dynamic response mechanism and stability of the BRSs,affected by the rock mass deterioration of the HFB,were investigated by the shaking table test and the universal distinct element code(UDEC)***,the amplification coefficient of the peak ground acceleration(PGA)of the slope was gradually attenuated under multiple seismic loads,and the acceleration response showed obvious“surface effect”and“elevation effect”in the horizontal and vertical directions,***“S-type”cubic function and“steep-rise type”exponential function were used to characterize the cumulative damage evolution of the slope caused by microseismic waves(low seismic waves)and high seismic waves,*** to the dynamic responses of the acceleration,cumulative displacement,rock pressure,pore water pressure,damping ratio,natural frequency,stability coefficient,and sliding velocity of the slope,the typical evolution processes of the dynamic cumulative damage and instability failure of the slope were generalized,and the numerical and experimental results were *** the dynamic effects of the slope height(SH),slope angle(SA),bedding plane thickness(BPT),dip angle of the bedding plane(DABP),dynamic load amplitude(DLA),dynamic load frequency(DLF),height of water level of the hydro-fluctuation belt(HWLHFB),degradation range of the hydro-fluctuation belt(DRHFB),and degradation shape of the hydro-fluctuation belt(DSHFB),the sensitivity of factors influencing the slope dynamic stability using the orthogonal analysis method(OAM)was DLA>DRHFB>SA>SH>DLF>HWLHFB>DSHFB>DABP>BPT.

A statistical damage-based constitutive model for shearing of rock joints in brittle drop mode

Some rock joints exhibit significant brittleness,characterized by a sharp decrease in shear stress upon reaching the peak ***,existing models often fail to accurately represent this behavior and are encumbered by numerous parameters lacking clear mechanical *** study presents a new statistical damage constitutive model rooted in both damage mechanics and statistics,containing only three model *** proposed model encompasses all stages of joint shearing,including the compaction stage,linear stage,plastic yielding stage,drop stage,strain softening stage,and residual strength *** derive the analytical expression of the constitutive model,three boundary conditions are *** data from both natural and artificial rock joints is utilized to validate the model,resulting in average absolute relative errors ranging from 3%to 8%.Moreover,a comparative analysis with established models illustrates that the proposed model captures stress drop and post-peak strain softening more effectively,with model parameters possessing clearer mechanical ***,parameter analysis is conducted to investigate the impacts of model parameters on the curves and unveil the relationship between these parameters and the mechanical properties of rock ***,the proposed model is straightforward in form,and all model parameters can be obtained from direct shear tests,thus facilitating the utilization in numerical simulations.
