Realizing the purification and grain refinement of Mg-Gd-Y alloy by one-step flux refining

In the conventional melt preparation of magnesium rare-earth(Mg-RE)alloys,the repeated heating/cooling process involved in grain refinement and flux refining usually prolongs the preparation period and aggravates melt *** this work,the purification and grain refinement of Mg-9Gd-3Y(GW93)alloy was simultaneously realized by one-step refining at 740℃ by using a self-developed compound *** results show that,only after holding for 10 min,the inclusion content of the alloy is reduced by 81%to 0.29%,while the grain size is reduced by 84%to 119μm.A physical model depicting the interactions between compound flux and alloy melt was proposed based on thermodynamic calculation and microstructure *** grain refinement mechanism has been analyzed by considering the presence of Zr particle(Zr_(p))and Zr solute(Zr_(s)).In addition,the generated RECl_(3) was found to be readily absorbed by the flux,decreasing the surface tension and promoting the purification efficacy of the flux,which plays an important role in the promoted elongation of the as-cast Mg-9Gd-3Y-0.5Zr(GW93K)*** work presents a unique prospect in simplifying the melt preparation of Mg-RE alloy with a promoted quality.

Pitting is a common type of localized corrosion in passive alloys that can cause rapid failure of material or *** the case of stainless steels,non-metallic inclusions have been identified as the most susceptible sites for pitting,and have therefore garnered significant *** review critically ex-amines the issue of how inclusions induce pitting,with a particular focus on three mechanisms:sponta-neous dissolution of inclusions,active dissolution of Cr-depleted regions,and propagation of microcracks at the inclusion-matrix *** researchers have made significant strides in understanding these mechanisms over the past few decades,many gaps and controversies *** such as the ini-tial driving force of inclusion dissolution and factors affecting Cr-depleted regions require further ***,some old concepts and methods need to be revised to arrive at more credible *** review aims to delve deeply into these important issues and provide inspiration for future research.

The study of nuclide production and its properties in the N=126 neutron-rich region is prevalent in nuclear physics and astrophysics *** upcoming High-energy FRagment Separator(HFRS)at the High-Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility(HIAF),an in-flight separator at relativistic energies,is characterized by high beam intensity,large ion-optical acceptance,high magnetic rigidity,and high momentum resolution *** provides an opportunity to study the production and properties of neutron-rich nuclei around N=*** this paper,an experimental scheme is proposed to produce neutron-rich nuclei around N=126 and simultaneously measure their mass and lifetime based on the HFRS separator;the feasibility of this scheme is evaluated through *** results show that under the high-resolution optical mode,many new neutron-rich nuclei approaching the r-process abundance peak around A=195 can be produced for the first time,and many nuclei with unknown masses and lifetimes can be produced with high *** the time-of-flight corrected by the measured dispersive position and energy loss information,the cocktails produced from 208 Pb fragmentation can be unambiguously ***,the masses of some neutron-rich nuclei near N=126 can be measured with high precision using the time-of-flight magnetic rigidity *** indicates that the HIAF-HFRS facility has the potential for the production and property research of neutron-rich nuclei around N=126,which is of great significance for expanding the chart of nuclides,developing nuclear theories,and understanding the origin of heavy elements in the universe.

Dehydrogenation is considered as one of the most important industrial applications for renewable *** ceria-based catalysts are known to display promising dehydrogenation performances in this *** particle size(>20 nm)and less surface defects,however,hinder further application of ceria ***,an alternative strategy involving lactic acid(LA)assisted hydrothermal method was developed to synthesize active,selective and durable cubic ceria of<6 nm for dehydrogenation *** studies of growth mechanism revealed that,the carboxyl and hydroxyl groups in LA molecule synergistically manipulate the morphological evolution of ceria *** groups determine the cubic shape and particle size,while hydroxyl groups promote compositional transformation of ceria precursors into CeO_(2) ***,enhanced oxygen vacancies(Vo)on the surface of CeO_(2) were obtained owing to continuous removal of O species under reductive *** CeO_(2) catalysts synthesized by the LA-assisted method,immobilized with bimetallic PtCo clusters,exhibit a record high activity(TOF:29,241 h^(-1))and Vo-dependent synergism for dehydrogenation of bio-derived polyols at 200℃.We also found that quenching Vo defects at air atmosphere causes activity loss of PtCo/CeO_(2) *** regenerate Vo defects,a simple strategy was developed by irradiating deactivated catalysts using hernia *** outcome of this work will provide new insights into manufacturing durable catalyst materials for aqueous phase dehydrogenation applications.

The severe erosion and inadequate mechanical strength are prominent challenges for high-energy gun *** address it,novel PTW@PDA composites was prepared by polydopamine(PDA)-modifying onto potassium titanate whisker(PTW,K_(2)Ti_(6)O_(13)),and after was incorporated into gun propellant as erosion-reducing and mechanical-reinforcing *** interfacial characterizations results indicated that as-prepared PTW@PDA composites exhibits an enhanced surface compatible with propellant matrix,thereby facilitating their dispersion into propellants more effectively than raw PTW *** to original propellants,PTW@PDA-modified propellants exhibited significant less erosion,with a Ti-Kbased protective coating being detected on the eroded *** 0.5 wt%and 1.0 wt%addition of PTW@PDA significantly improved impact,compressive and tensile strength of *** the inevitably reduction in relative force,PTW@PDA slightly increase propellant burning rate while exerting little adverse impact on propellant dynamic *** strategy can provide a promising alternative to develop high-energy gun propellant with less erosion and more mechanical strength.

Efficient bifunction electrocatalyst is extremely interesting for electrochemical overall water splitting （OWS）.Herein,a new RuO2-Ru/MoO2@CC（RRM/CC） bifunctional electrocatalyst was prepared via a solid phase reaction *** obtain a suitable precursor for SPR,MoS2nanosheets and RuO2nanoparticles （NPs）were sequentially loaded onto carbon cloth conductive ***,the prepared RuO2/MoS2/CC precursor was sealed in a furnace and annealed in Ar to trigger the redox *** SPR,active RuO2-Ru/MoO2units containing metal–metal oxide interfaces were formed on CC substrate *** optimized RRM/CC sample annealed at 400℃ exhibited a overpotential of 13 m V for hydrogen evolution reaction （HER） and 231 mV for oxygen evolution reaction （OER） at 10 mA·cm-2under alkaline condition,respectively,which can be deduced to the modulated electronic structure and unique hierarchica *** addition,a low cell voltage of 1.48 V for OWS was required at 10 mA·cm-2under alkaline condition Meanwhile,RRM/CC exhibited excellent pH-independent durability.
