Minimally invasive lumbar interbody fusion via MAST Quadrant retractor versus open surgery： a prospective randomized clinical trial

In recent years, a variety of minimally invasive lumbar surgery techniques have achieved desirable efficacy, but some dispute remains regarding the advantages over open surgery. This study aimed to compare minimally invasive lumbar interbody fusion via MAST Quadrant retractor with open surgery in terms of perioperative factors, postoperative back muscle function, and 24-month postoperative follow-up results. Methods From September 2006 to June 2008, patients with single-level degenerative lumbar spine disease who were not responsive to conservative treatment were enrolled in this study. Patients were randomized to undergo either minimally invasive surgery （MIS, transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion via MAST Quadrant retractor, 41 cases） or open surgery （improved transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion, 38 cases）. Results The MIS group had longer intraoperative fluoroscopy time than the open surgery group, and the open surgery group had significantly increased postoperative drainage volume and significantly prolonged postoperative recovery time compared with the MIS group （P 〈0.05 for all）. MRI scanning showed that the T2 relaxation time in the multifidus muscle was significantly shorter in the MIS group than in the open surgery group at 3 months after surgery （P 〈0.01）. Surface electromyography of the sacrospinalis muscle showed that the average discharge amplitude and frequency were significantly higher in the MIS group than in the open surgery group （P 〈0.01）. The Oswestry disability index and visual analog scale scores were better at 3, 6, 12 and 24 months postoperatively than preoperatively in both groups. Both groups of patients met the imaging convergence criteria at the last follow-up. Conclusions MIS can effectively reduce sacrospinalis muscle injury compared with open surgery, which is conducive to early functional recovery. In the short term, MIS is superior to open surgery, but in the long term there is no significant difference between the two procedures

In recent years, due to the rapid development of high-performance small molecule acceptor (SMA) materials, the researches on p-type electron donor materials for matching with current efficient SMAs have become important. By means of asymmetric strategies to optimize the energy levels and inter/intramolecular interactions of molecules, we designed and synthesized an asymmetric aromatic side chain quinoxaline-based polymer donor TPQ-0F. Meanwhile, we took advantage of F atom which could form noncovalent interaction and strong electron-withdrawing property, to obtain the optimized quinoxaline-based polymer donors TPQ-1F, TPQ-1Fi and TPQ-2F. Eventually, the binary device based on TPQ-2F achieved an efficient power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 16.27%, which attributed to balanced hole/electron mobilities, less charge carrier recombination, and more favorable aggregation morphology. Our work demonstrates the great potential of asymmetric aromatic side chain quinoxaline-based polymer donors on optimizing the morphology of blending films, improving inter/intramolecular interactions, and subtly tuning energy level, finally for more efficient organic solar cells.

Macrophages have a diverse set of functions based upon their activation states. The activation states, including resting（M0） and polarizing（M1 and M2） states, of macrophages derived from the mouse bone marrow, spleen, and peritoneal cavity（BMs, SPMs, and PCMs, respectively） were compared. We evaluated the macrophage yield per mouse and compared the surface markers major histocompatibility complex（MHC） Ⅱ and CD86 by flow cytometry. The relative mRNA levels of tumor necrosis factor-α（TNF-α）, interleukin（IL）-1β, mannose receptor（MR）, and Ym1 in the M0, M1, and M2 states were also compared using real-time polymerase chain reaction（PCR） analysis. Bone marrow yielded the most macrophages with the best homogeneity, but they were polarized toward the M2 phenotype. All three types of macrophages had the capacity to polarize into the M1 and M2 states, but SPMs had a stronger capacity to polarize into M1. The three types of macrophages showed no differences in their capacity to polarize into the M2 state. Therefore, the three types of macrophages have distinct characteristics regardless of their resting or polarizing states. Although bone marrow can get large amounts of homogeneous macrophages, the macrophages cannot replace tissue-derived macrophages.

The infrared(IR)absorption spectral data of 63 kinds of lubricating greases containing six different types of thickeners were obtained using the IR *** Kohonen neural network algorithm was used to identify the type of the lubricating *** results show that this machine learning method can effectively eliminate the interference fringes in the IR spectrum,and complete the feature selection and dimensionality reduction of the high-dimensional spectral *** 63 kinds of greases exhibit spatial clustering under certain IR spectrum recognition spectral bands,which are linked to characteristic peaks of lubricating greases and improve the recognition accuracy of these *** model achieved recognition accuracy of 100.00%,96.08%,94.87%,100.00%,and 87.50%for polyurea grease,calcium sulfonate composite grease,aluminum(Al)-based grease,bentonite grease,and lithium-based grease,*** on the different IR absorption spectrum bands produced by each kind of lubricating grease,the three-dimensional spatial distribution map of the lubricating grease drawn also verifies the accuracy of classification while recognizing the *** paper demonstrates fast recognition speed and high accuracy,proving that the Kohonen neural network algorithm has an efficient recognition ability for identifying the types of the lubricating grease.

The failure types in gear systems vary,with typical ones mainly including pitting,cracking,wear,and broken *** modeling and stiffness calculation methods have been developed for various gear failure types.A unified method for typical gear failure modeling and stiffness calculation is introduced in this study by considering the deviations in the time-varying meshing stiffness(TVMS)of faulty gears resulting from the use of different ***,a gear tooth is discretized into a large number of microelements expressed with a matrix,and unified models of typical gear failures are built by adjusting the values of the matrix *** values and positions of the microelements in the tooth failure model matrix have the same physical meaning as the parameter variables in the potential energy method(PEM),so the matrix-based failure model can be perfectly matched with ***,a unified method for TVMS is *** of healthy and faulty gears with pitting,wear,crack,and broken tooth is performed with the matrix equation,and the corresponding TVMS values are calculated by incorporating the matrix models with *** the basis of the results,the mechanism of typical fault types that affect TVMS is analyzed,and the conclusions are verified through the finite element *** developed unified method is a promising technique for studying the dynamic response characteristics of gear systems with different failure types because of its superiority in eliminating stiffness deviations.

The composition of base oils affects the performance of lubricants made from *** paper proposes a hybrid model based on gradient-boosted decision tree(GBDT)to analyze the effect of different ratios of KN4010,PAO40,and PriEco3000 component in a composite base oil system on the performance of *** study was conducted under small laboratory sample conditions,and a data expansion method using the Gaussian Copula function was proposed to improve the prediction ability of the hybrid *** study also compared four optimization algorithms,sticky mushroom algorithm(SMA),genetic algorithm(GA),whale optimization algorithm(WOA),and seagull optimization algorithm(SOA),to predict the kinematic viscosity at 40℃,kinematic viscosity at 100℃,viscosity index,and oxidation induction time performance of the *** results showed that the Gaussian Copula function data expansion method improved the prediction ability of the hybrid model in the case of small *** SOA-GBDT hybrid model had the fastest convergence speed for the samples and the best prediction effect,with determination coefficients(R^(2))for the four indicators of lubricants reaching 0.98,0.99,0.96 and 0.96,***,this model can significantly reduce the model’s prediction error and has good prediction ability.

Noble metal surfaces with intrinsic chirality serve as an ideal candidate for investigating enantioselective chemistry due to their superior chemical durability and high catalytic ***,significant advance has been made in synthesizing metal nanocrystals with intrinsic ***,the majority reports are limited to ***,through a heteroepitaxial growth strategy,the synthesis of metal nanocrystals with intrinsic chirality to palladium was extended for the first time and their application in enantioselective recognition was *** heteroepitaxial growth strategy allows for transferring the chirality of homochiral Au nanocrystals to Au@Pd core–shell *** employing the chiral Au@Pd nanocrystals as enantiomeric recognizing elements,a series of electrochemical sensors for chiral discrimination were *** optimal conditions,the peak potential between D-dihydroxyphenylalanine(D-DOPA)and L-dihydroxyphenylalanine(L-DOPA)is about 80 m V,and the peak current of D-DOPA is 2 times as much as that of L-DOPA,which enables the determination of the enantiomeric excess(EE,%)of ***,this report not only introduces a heteroepitaxial growth strategy to synthesize metal nanocrystals with intrinsic chirality,but also demonstrates the superior capability of integrating intrinsic chirality and catalytic properties into metal nanocrystals for chiral recognition.
