Drag reduction and hairpin packets of the turbulent boundary layer over the superhydrophobic-riblets surface

This paper presents experimental measurements by the time-resolved particle image velocimetry(TR-PIV)for the turbulent boundary layer(TBL)over the smooth surface,the superhydrophobic(SH)surface,and the superhydrophobic-riblets(SR)surface in an open-surface recirculating water *** Reynolds number based on the wall friction velocity and the thickness of the TBL over the smooth surface is *** SH surface and the SR surface are manufactured by the laser texturing method on the smooth surface and the riblets surface,*** employing the(modified)Clauser method,a superior efficacy of the drag reduction of about 22.1%is obtained on the SR surface,while the drag reduction rate for the SH surface is about 18.7%.Comparing with the SH surface,the declining 2-order statistics in the near-wall region also indicates a significant drag reduction over the SR *** large-scale structure components extracted by the proper orthogonal decomposition are found to generate a majority of the Reynolds shear stress in the region y^(+)>*** strength of the large-scale features over the rough surfaces(SH and SR surfaces)at disparate wall-normal positions is visualized by the Quadrant splitting method and the conditional *** appearance of the large-scale structures such as the hairpin packets characterized by the two-point correlation shows an excellent consistency with the statistics *** hairpin packets over the SH surface seem always smaller and weaker than those over the smooth *** the SR surface,the hairpin packets in the region 0.1≤y/δ<0.3 are the smallest and weakest among those over the three surfaces,while the scale and the strength of the hairpin packets exceed those over the smooth surface in the region 0.3

Automated Fiber Placement(AFP)technology facilitates the manufacturing process of composite structures with complex geometry owing to its high efficiency and *** unavoidable imperfections induced by the automated layup method bring challenges to the stability of the final mechanical properties of *** influence of AFP-induced gaps and overlaps on the modeⅡinterlaminar fracture process of oven-cured laminates is experimentally investigated and explicitly ***-Notched Flexure(ENF)tests were performed to measure the interlaminar fracture toughness of unidirectional laminates under three different defect configurations,namely"Gap""Overlap"and"Gap&Overlap".A marginal decline(about-1.2%in non-precracked tests,-5.1%in precracked tests)and an obvious increase(about 15.2%in nonprecracked tests,5.2%in precracked tests)in fracture toughness were observed for the"Gap"group and the"Overlap"group,*** studies which involve the metallographic observation and Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM)observation revealed that the increases in fracture area and crack length helped improve the fracture toughness of the Overlap"***,the resin-rich area with high porosity induced by gaps was detrimental to the delamination *** capture the interlaminar stress distribution local to imperfections,a three-dimensional numerical model was *** defects facilitate the local delamination process,and the overlap defect postpones the damage onset and the propagation.

Skeletal muscle plays a significant role in both local and systemic energy metabolism. The current investigation aims to explore the role of the Bambi gene in skeletal muscle, focusing on its implications for muscle hypertrophy and systemic metabolism. We hypothesize that skeletal muscle-specific deletion of Bambi induces muscle hypertrophy, improves metabolic performance, and activates thermogenic adipocytes via the reprogramming of progenitor of i WAT, offering potential therapeutic strategies for metabolic syndromes. Leveraging the Chromatin immunoprecipitation(ChIP)-seq and bioinformatics analysis, Bambi gene is shown to be a direct target of HIF2α, which is further confirmed by ChIP-qPCR and promoter luciferase assay. Skeletal muscle-specific Bambi deletion led to significant muscle hypertrophy and improved metabolic parameters, even under high-fat diet conditions. This deletion induced metabolic reprogramming of stromal vascular fractions(SVFs) into thermogenic adipocytes, contributing to systemic metabolic improvements, potentially through the secretory ***, mice with skeletal muscle-specific Bambi deletion demonstrate resistance to high-fat diet-induced metabolic disorders, highlighting a potential therapeutic pathway for metabolic syndrome management. Thus, skeletal muscle-specific deletion of Bambi triggers muscle growth, enhances metabolic performance, and activates thermogenic adipocytes. These findings suggest Bambi as a novel therapeutic target for metabolic syndromes, providing new insights into the interaction between muscle hypertrophy and systemic metabolic improvement. The study underscores the potential of manipulating muscle physiology to regulate whole-body metabolism, offering a novel perspective on treating metabolic disorders.

The thermal deactivation of diesel soot particles exerts a significant influence on the control strategy for the regeneration of diesel particulate filters(DPFs).This work focused on the changes in the surface functional groups,carbon chemical state,and graphitization degree during thermal treatment in an inert gas environment at intermediate temperatures of 600℃,800℃,and 1000℃ and explore the chemical species that were desorbed from the diesel soot surface during thermal treatment using a thermogravimetric analyser coupled with a gas-chromatograph mass spectrometer(TGA-GC/MS).The surface functional groups and carbon chemical statewere characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).The graphitization degree was evaluated by means of Raman spectroscopy(RS).The concentrations of aliphatic C–H,C–OH,C=O,and O–C=O groups are reduced for diesel soot and carbon black when increasing the thermal treatment temperature,while the sp^(2)/sp^(3) hybridized ratio and graphitization degree *** results provide comprehensive evidence of the decreased reactivity of soot *** oxygenated functional groups,the percentage reduction during thermal treatment is the largest for the O–C=O groups owing to its worst thermodynamic ***-GC/MS results show that the aliphatic and aromatic chains and oxygenated species would be desorbed from the soot surface during 1000℃ thermal treatment of diesel soot.

The purity,preferred orientation,microstructure,microhardness,bonding strength,thickness uniformity and thermal stability of rhenium(Re)coatings prepared on graphite wafers by chemical vapor deposition(CVD)and electrodeposition(ED)in molten salts were comparatively studied in this *** was found that carbon(0.0140 wt%)and oxygen(0.0067 wt%)were the primary impurities for CVD and ED Re coatings,*** diffusion of carbon into CVD Re coating caused higher microhardness near the substrate and helped to improve the bonding strength at the same *** preferred orientation,microstructure and microhardness of ED Re coating were all susceptible to *** coating deposition uniformity of ED Re is obviously better than that of CVD Re coating,due to its intrinsic ***(002)-oriented,coarse columnar CVD Re coating exhibited better thermal stability compared with that of the-oriented,fiber-like columnar ED Re coating,while the ED Re grains grew remarkably and the microstructure evolved toward the similar structure of CVD Re after annealing *** diversity of Re coatings in microstructure could be attributed to the mobility of grain boundaries(affected by temperature and impurity)during deposition processes.

The M1/M2 phenotypic shift of microglia after spinal cord injury plays an important role in the regulation of neuroinflammation during the secondary injury phase of spinal cord *** of shifting microglia polarization from M1(neurotoxic and proinflammatory type)to M2(neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory type)after spinal cord injury appears to be *** possesses an anti-inflammatory biological ***,its roles and the underlying molecular mechanisms in spinal cord injury remain *** this study,we found that tryptanthrin inhibited microglia-derived inflammation by promoting polarization to the M2 phenotype in *** promoted M2 polarization through inactivating the cGAS/STING/NF-κB ***,we found that targeting the cGAS/STING/NF-κB pathway with tryptanthrin shifted microglia from the M1 to M2 phenotype after spinal cord injury,inhibited neuronal loss,and promoted tissue repair and functional recovery in a mouse model of spinal cord ***,using a conditional co-culture system,we found that microglia treated with tryptanthrin suppressed endoplasmic reticulum stress-related neuronal *** together,these results suggest that by targeting the cGAS/STING/NF-κB axis,tryptanthrin attenuates microglia-derived neuroinflammation and promotes functional recovery after spinal cord injury through shifting microglia polarization to the M2 phenotype.

In this work,low-softening-temperature and low-modulus SiO_(2) was introduced as an embedded interface between SiC nanowires(SiCnws)and a Ba_(x)Sr_(1−x)Al_(2)Si_(2)O_(8) ceramic matrix to enhance strength and toughness of the *** the sintering process,molten SiO_(2) enhances the flowability of the ceramic powders and modifies the dispersion of *** strengthening effect of SiCnws was fully realized,and the flexural strength of the optimized ceramics reached 193±16 MPa,which represents an increase of 52.6%.After the formation of the embedded SiO_(2) interface with a low modulus,cracks can deflect along the SiCnws surface,which is consistent with the criterion of He and *** can effectively extend the crack propagation path,and the fracture toughness(K_(IC))is thus improved by 94.0%,reaching 3.1±0.5 MPa·m^(1/2).
