Short-term prediction of influent flow rate and ammonia concentration in municipal wastewater treatment plants

The prediction of the influent load is of great importance for the improvement of the control system to a large wastewater treatment plant. A systematic data analysis method is presented in this paper in order to estimate and predict the periodicity of the influent flow rate and ammonia （NH3） concentrations： 1） data filtering using wavelet decomposition and reconstruction; 2） typical cycle identification using power spectrum density analysis; 3） fitting and prediction model establishment based on an autoregressive model. To give meaningful information for feedforward control systems, predictions in different time scales are tested to compare the corresponding predicting accuracy. Considering the influence of the rainfalls, a linear fitting model is derived to estimate the relationship between flow rate trend and rain events. Measurements used to support coefficient fitting and model testing are acquired from two municipal wastewater treatment plants in China. The results show that 1） for both of the two plants, the periodicity affects the flow rate and NH3 concentrations in different cycles （especially cycles longer than 1 day）; 2） when the flow rate and NH3 concentrations present an obvious periodicity, the decreasing of prediction accuracy is not distinct with increasing of the prediction time scales; 3） the periodicity influence is larger than rainfalls; 4） the rainfalls will make the periodicity of flow rate less obvious in intensive rainy periods.

Alkane-based biodiesel is considered the next generation of biodiesel owing to its potential environmental benefits and the fact that it exhibits much higher specific caloric values than traditional ***,the formidable obstacle impeding the commercialization of this cutting-edge fuel alternative lies in the cost associated with its *** this study,an engineered strain Escherichia coli(***)showcasing harmonized coexpression of a lipase(from Thermomyces lanuginosus lipase,TLL)and a fatty acid photodecarboxylase(from Chlorella variabilis,CvFAP)was first constructed to transform triglycerides into *** potential of *** BL21(DE3)/pRSFDuet-1-TLL-CvFAP for alkane synthesis was evaluated with tripalmitin as a model substrate under various process *** a comprehensive examination of the reaction parameters,the scope of the biotransformation was expanded to‘real’substrates(vegetable oils).The results showed that bioderived oils can be transformed into alkanes with high yields(0.80-10.20 mmol·L^(-1))under mild conditions(35℃,pH 8.0,and 36 h)and blue light *** selected processes were performed on an increased lab scale(up to 100 ml)with up to 24.77 mmol·L^(-1) tripalmitin,leading to a yield of 18.89 mmol·L^(-1) *** the employment of a method for efficiently producing alkanes under mild conditions and a simple procedure to isolate alkanes from the reaction system,the utilization of sustainable biomass as a fundamental feedstock emerges as the primary solution to lower the cost of alkane-based ***,this study proposes a readily implementable and highly effective approach for alkane-based biodiesel production.

Modification of the activated sludge model for chemical dosage

Full-scale experiments have been carried out to adapt the activated sludge model ASM2d to include the influence of metal dosage （Fe^3＋ and Al^3＋） for phosphorus removal. Phosphorus removal rates, nitrification rates, as well as pH and sludge settling performance, were evaluated as functions of the metal dosages. Furthermore, models relating certain parameters to the dosage of chemicals have been derived. Corresponding parameters in the ASM2d and the secondary settler models, included in the Benchmark Simulation Model No 1 （BSM1）, have been modified to take the metal influence into consideration. Based on the effluent limits and penalty policy of China, an equivalent evaluation method was derived for the total cost assessment. A large number of 300-day steady-state and 14-day open-loop dynamic simulations were performed to demonstrate the difference in behavior between the original and the modified BSM1. The results show that 1） both in low and high mole concentrations, Fe^3＋ addition results in a higher phosphorus removal rate than Al^3＋; 2） the sludge settling velocity will increase due to the metal addition; 3） the respiration rate of the activated sludge is decreased more by the dosage of Al^3＋ than Fe^3＋; 4） the inhibition of Al^3＋ on the nitrification rate is stronger than that of Fe^3＋; 5） the total operating cost will reach the minimum point for smaller dosages of Fe^3＋, but always increase with Al^3＋ addition.

The stock and stability of soil organic carbon(SOC)are critical to soil functions and global carbon cycle,but little quantitative information is available on the precise location and chemical components of SOC for soils across a wide range of climatic ***,a broad range of zonal soils were collected in forest land at topsoil(0-15 cm)and subsoil(15-30 cm)from temperate to tropical climatic gradient in central to south *** stock and stability of SOC were determined in terms of aggregate and humic *** in bulk soils with a less significant geographic variation was comparably higher at Haplic Luvisoils in temperate regions(3637.61 g m^(−2))and Rhodi-Humic Ferrosols in tropical regions(3446.12 g m^(−2))than in the other experimental soils,but a consistent decreasing trend was observed along the soil profiles with the SOC stock was 1.11-1.97 times higher in the topsoil than in the *** addition,insoluble humin residue(HMr)as the dominant components of SOC ranged from 643.95 to 2696.90 g m^(−2) and decreased from temperate to tropical regions,which was consistent with the zonal variation of humic acids(HAs),but contrary to the zonal variation of fulvic acids(FAs)that fluctuated in a range of 39.67-389.55 g m^(−2) across the experimental *** to the results of partial correlation analysis,the variation of FAs stock was significantly attributed to soil pH,bulk density,iron and aluminum oxides,clay,and clay mineral content(|r|>0.61,p<0.05),while these soil physical properties showed a contradictory effects on HAs,iron-linked humin(HMi),clay-combined humin(HMc),and ***,the aggregate-associated carbon stock was mainly stored in macroaggregates(36.34-76.09%)for both SOC and its chemical components,especially in topsoils,and its zonal variation was associated with that of bulk *** general,the redundancy analysis(RDA)revealed that mean annual precipitation(MAP)accounted for 81.8%and 13.8%of the variance in SOC chemical a

Cropland elevation uplift(CLEU) has recently become a new challenge for agricultural modernization,food security,and sustainable cropland use in *** the rules of CLEU is of great theoretical and practical significance for China’s sustainable agricultural development and rural revitalization ***,existing studies lack in-depth disclosure of multi-scale CLEU evolution rules,making it difficult to support the formulation of specific cropland protection *** analyzed the spatio-temporal evolution and multiscale CLEU in China from 1980 to 2020 using the Lorenz curve,gravity center model,hotspot analysis,and cropland elevation *** results indicated that the center of gravity of cropland moved to the northeast from 1980 to 2000 and then shifted to the *** spatial distribution of cropland became increasingly imbalanced from 1980 to *** change hotspots clustered in the northwest and the northeast,whereas cold-spots were mainly in southeastern *** average elevation of cropland increased by 17.38 m,and the elevation uplift rule in different regions differed evidently across *** 1980 to 2000,all provinces except xinjiang,Inner Mongolia,Gansu,and Yunnan exhibited CLEU,with Qinghai,Tibet,Beijing,and Guangdong showing the most noticeable *** CLEU can alleviate the shortage of cropland to some ***,without a planning constraint,the CLEU will lead to the increase of ecological risk and food security risk.
