Non-melanoma skin cancer(NMSC) is one of the most common cancers in the US, although the role of obesity in skin cancer remains unclear. In vivo studies have consistently demonstrated that obese mice challenged with UVB radiation show increased skin tumorigenesis in comparison with leaner control mice. Growing evidence suggests that enhanced inflammation, oxidative stress and impaired apoptosis may play important roles in the development of skin cancer. Interventions such as voluntary exercise and the surgical removal of parametrial fat have been demonstrated to be effective in reducing adipose tissue that may influence the development of skin cancer; however, these interventions are not achievable in all obese patients. Therefore, the use of dietary natural phytochemicals that may modify and reverse the deregulated molecular and epigenetic events related to obesity and cancer development might represent a potential therapeutic modality due to their potential efficacy and low toxicity. In this review, we aim to provide the molecular and epigenetic basis of the NMSC-obesity relationship and to highlight the potential anti-cancer chemopreventive benefits of dietary phytochemicals such as sulforaphane and epigallocatechin-3-gallate.

Microalgae are widely used in the pharmaceutical and energy industries,therefore the conditions for their cultivation and extraction methods play an important role in the profiling and acquisition of *** efficiency of lipid extraction from microalgae has attracted great interest from industry because of the wide variety of lipids and amounts that can be *** obliquus(Scenedesmus obliquus UTEX 393)was used in this *** was cultivated in Bold 3N medium modified with 75%nitrogen at 25℃,pH 6.8,125 r/min and a photoperiod of 18/6 h and illuminated with white light provided by a Light-Emitting Diode Surface Mount Device extensions(LED SMD)with an intensity of 1200μE/(m^(2)·s).The cells were stained with the red Nile(rN)technique to indicate lipid *** extraction methods were compared,classical,microwave(MW),Soxhlet,and ultrasound(US),using the same solvent proportions(hexane:chloroform:methanol=1:2:3).All samples were analyzed with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIr)and Gas Chromatography coupled to Mass Spectrometry(GC-MS).The results showed:1)lipid production detected by rN was consistent with microalgal growth;2)the MW technique was the best extraction method,according to the statistical analysis through randomized Complete Block(rCB)design and performance of 4.6%;and 3)the presence of saturated and unsaturated acids was indicated by FTIr ***-MS was able to identify palmitic and linoleic acids as the likely major constituents of the sample.

AIM： To determine the expression of HEr2 and bradykinin B1 receptors （B1r） in the two pathogenic models of gallbladder cancer： the metaplasia dysplasia carcino ma and the adenoma carcinoma pathways.METHoDS： receptor proteins were visualized by immunohistochemistry on 5-μm sections of paraffin-embedded tissue. Expression of both receptors was studied in biopsy samples from 92 patients （6 males and 86 females; age ranging from 28 to 86 years, mean 56 years）. High HEr2 expression in specimens was additionally investigated by fluorescence in situ hybridization. Cell proliferation in each sample was assessed by using the Ki-67 proliferation marker.rESULTS： HEr2 receptor protein was absent in adenomas and in normal gallbladder epithelium. on the contrary, there was intense staining for HEr2 on the basolateral membrane of epithelial cells of intestinal metaplasia （22/24; 91.7%） and carcinoma in situ （9/10; 90%）, the lesions that displayed a significantly high proliferation index. Protein up-regulation of HEr2 in the epithelium with metaplasia or carcinoma in s/tu was not accompanied by HEr2 gene amplification. A similar result was observed in invasive carcinomas （0/12）. The B1r distribution pattern mirrored that of HEr2 except that B1r was additionally observed in the adenomas. The B1r appeared either as cytoplasmic dots or labeling on the apical cell membrane of the cells composing the epithelia with intestinal metaplasia （24/24; 100%） and carcinoma in situ （10/10; 100%） and in the epithelial cells of adenomas. In contrast, both HEr2 （4/12; 33%） and B1r （1/12; 8.3%） showed a low expression in inva- sive gallbladder carcinomas.CoNCLUSIoN： The up-regulation of HEr2 and B1r in precursor lesions of gallbladder carcinoma suggests cross-talk between these two receptors that may be of importance in the modulation of cell proliferation in gallbladder carcinogenesis,

The dietary phytochemicals curcumin （CUr） and sulforaphane （SFN） have shown remarkable cancer chemopreventive effects in many model systems. This study was designed to investigate the induction of Nrf2-mediated antioxidant enzymes by combining doses of CUr and SFN and the effect of their combination on the Nrf2-ArE （antioxidant response element） response in HepG2-C8 cells. We hypothesized that the combination of the polyphenol CUr and the isothiocyanate SFN could enhance the induction of ArEs and Nrf2-target enzymes. HepG2-C8 cells were treated with a combination of low doses of CUr, SFN or both. The induction of Nrf2-mediated antioxidant and phase II detoxifying enzymes-heme oxygenase-1 （Ho-I） and UDP-glucuronosyltransferase-1A （UGT1A）-was measured by real-time rT-PCr and western blotting. ArE-luciferase activity was also quantified. Low doses of CUr （10 ~tM） and SFN （12.5 ~tM） significantly induced the expression of Ho-1 and UGT 1 A1 proteins. Through the use of chemical inhibitors of mrNA and protein synthesis, the combination of CUr and SFN was shown to affect the transcriptional regulation of both Ho-1 and UGT1A1. Additionally, the combination of CUr and SFN synergistically induced the expression of Nrf2- and ArE-luciferase activity in HepG2-C8 cells. Thus, CUr and SFN at low concentrations augment therapeutic effects in HepG2-C8 cells. The enhanced ArE-luciferase activity of combined CUr and SFN treatment could partly explain the significant induction of the Nrf2-target enzymes Ho-1 and UGT1A1. Taken together, our results suggest that combining low doses of CUr and SNF could be a promising strategy for cancer chemoprevention in humans.

Chile, together with El Salvador, Malta and Nicaragua has the most restrictive abortion laws. In these countries there is very little information on pregnancies that end in abortions. An analysis is made of official information regarding hospital discharges for abortion in Chile between 2001 and 2010, classified according to age and according to the WHo ICD 10. The Chilean Ministry of Health’s Statistics office (DEIS) collected the data. In 334,485 hospital discharges for abortion, Ectopic Abortion (o00), the Hydatidiform Mole (o01) and other Abnormal Products of Conception (o02) corresponded to 37.2% of hospital discharges. Spontaneous Abortion (o03) reached 15% and Non Specified Abortion (o06) reached 35.5% and most probably included complications of induced abortions. 77% of hospital discharges corresponded to women between 20 and 34 years of age. Adolescents correspond to 11% of hospital discharges. In the annual average of 33,500 hospital discharges, other Abnormal Products of Conception (o02), other Abortions (o05), and Non Specified Abortions (o05) contribute to 72.7% of hospital discharges. This is explained by incomplete diagnoses, by means of the omission of induced abortion as this would mean jail for the woman and legal red-tape for the health personnel involved. Maternal mortality has not fallen. Abortion Mortality and Fatality rates do not change. There is a discrepancy between the law and hospital discharge diagnoses for abortion. The antiabortion law remains unheeded and obeys an ideological bias that brings damage and abuse to Chilean women. The aim of this study is to gain better information from a country that does not allow abortion under any circumstance, and its usefulness to countries in similar situations, together with its negative consequences on woman’s health and rights.

rong>Introduction:rong> Epilepsy is considered a chronic neurological condition that manifests itself with seizures, where 30% - 40% of patients do not achieve control of their seizures despite proper management. Seizures represent a significant limitation in the patient’s daily activities and are often accompanied by emotional and relational difficulties that have a great impact on the quality of life of the patient and their families. Cannabidiol (CBD) has been found to be effective in controlling seizures and may also improve cognitive and behavioral abilities. rong>Material and Methods:rong> The Quality of Life of the Patient with Epilepsy (CAVE) scale was applied to patients with refractory epilepsies who use Cannabidiol (CBD) added to their base therapy, before the use of CBD and after 12 months of follow-up. The presentation of collateral effects was also evaluated. rong>results:rong> out of 34 patients, 26 (76.5%) increased their CAVE value at the end of the study and only 1 (2.9%) decreased. 19 (55.9%) improved in learning and behavior, 55.8% in the frequency of seizures and 79.4% reported a decrease in the intensity of seizures. There were other positive side effects such as improvement in alertness, language, sleep and behavior. The main side effects were mild and transitory, including drowsiness, and constipation. There was a correlation between the global perception of improvement and seizure control. rong>Conclusions:rong> This study shows that in the long term CBD improves the quality of life of patients with refractory epilepsies, through the control of seizures and the improvement of cognitive and behavioral functions.

Depressive disorders are recognized as one of the most common mental health conditions across different age ***,the risk factors associated with depression among older people from low-and middle-income countries remains *** study aims to identify socio-demographic,health and psychosocial-related factors associated with depression in Chilean older adults.A cross-sectional study was carried out in a representative sample of 1,765 adults aged≥60 years participants from the Chilean National Health Survey 2016–***-sion was assessed with the Composite International Diagnostic Interview(CIDI-SF).Associations between the exposure variables and depression were investigated using Poisson regression *** mainﬁndings indi-cated that women showed higher likelihood of depression than men(Prevalence ratio(Pr)=2.6[95%CI:1.40;4.89]).An increased likelihood of depression was found in older adults with chronic pain,multimorbidity(≥2 diseases),previous diagnose of depression,high perception of stress,ﬁnancial stress,and difﬁculties for social *** women,higher likelihood of depression was found for those with the frailty phenotype(Pr:8.53[95%CI:1.68;43.32]),rheumatoid arthritis(Pr:2.41[95%CI:1.34;4.34]),insomnia(Pr:2.99[95%CI:1.74;5.12])and low self-rated well-being(Pr:4.94[95%CI:2.26;10.79]).Men who were divorced(Pr:7.10[95%CI:1.44;34.90])or widowed(Pr:10.83[95%CI:3.71;31.58]),obese(Pr:5.08[95%CI:1.48;17.42])and who had asthma(Pr:7.60[95%CI:2.31;24.99])were associated with higher odds of *** currentﬁndings may have clinical implications for the early identiﬁcation of older adults more susceptible to depression and also suggest the need to implement cultural and age-sensitive strategies to promote mental health in late life.

Antioxidant activity of Bios-p peptide analogue in HEK293T cells and three-dimensional structure prediction

Studies had indicate that excessive production of reactive oxygen species (roS) affect cellular signaling pathways, which is associated with pathological and physiological conditions such as cancer, diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases In this context, our laboratory has obtained the Bios-p, a roS modulator, peptide analogue by sequencing from the seed of Bauhinia bauhinoides, which represents the active 12-amino acid, obtained from the inhibitor BbKI protease and we predicted the three-dimensional structure of Bios-p analogue peptide using homology modeling, being patented by the working group of Dr. Maria Luiza Vilela oliva of UNIFESP, Brazil (a member of our cluster). The protective effect on the viability and antioxidant capacity of Bios-p was studied in HEK 293T cells under oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2o2) using SYToXGrEEN/DHE and luminescence assay. The three-dimensional structure of Bios-p peptide analogue was predicted by homology-based modeling using Modeller9v8. The pretreatment with different concentrations of Bios-p (1 μM - 10 μM) showed an increase of 53.83% ± 3.86% the cellular viability in under oxidative stress compared to control. Furthermore, the results to indicate that HEK293T cells by incubating for 24 h with Bios-p shown a significant decreased of basal extracellular roS on total cell population in 89.67% ± 0.76%, compared to control in the absence of the analogue. Similarly it is observed that Bios-p has a significant antioxidant effect on extracellular roS production when cells are subjected to oxidative stress induced by 200 μM H2o2 in 64.37% ± 4.63%, compared to control in absence of H2o2 and Bios-p. These results suggest that Bios-p has potential as antioxidant agent in cells HEK293T under H2o2-induced oxidative stress and that can protect the cells viability as concentration-dependent, and we propose a new biotechnological tool for modulate the roS production.
