Photocatalytic fuel cell for simultaneous antibiotic wastewater treatment and electricity production by anatase TiO_(2) nanoparticles anchored on Ni foam

Photocatalytic fuel cell (PFC) holds great potential for the sustainable production of electricity and degradation of organic pollutants for solving global energy and environmental problems.However,the efficient photodegradation of organic dyes and antibiotic drugs,such as ciprofloxacin (CIP) and methylene blue(MB),remains challenging.Aiming at improving the separation efficiency of hole and electron for electricity generation in the PFC system,TiO_(2)-NPs@NF-x photoanode was fabricated by a cost-effective and laborsaving hydrothermal approach.The as-fabricated photoanode demonstrated abundant active sites,enhanced light harvesting capacity and photogenerated charge carrier separation.At a CIP-HCl concentration of 10 mg/L and p H value of about 7,85%of CIP-HCl can be efficiently removed after 3 h irradiation by 300 W Xe lamp.TiO_(2)-NPs@NF-20 photoelectrode based PFC system exhibited an impressed ability to simultaneously degrade ciprofloxacin and generate electricity under light irradiation with an open circuit voltage of 1.021 V,short circuit current density and maximum power density of 2.4 mA/cm^(2),0.357 mW/cm^(2),respectively.This work provided a cost-effective method for the treatment of organic waste and generation of electrical power.

光电催化技术通过电场协助光催化,能有效抑制光生载流子复合,提高有机污染物的去除率,具有简便、高效、易操作等优点。光电极材料是光电催化技术的关键,相较于其他传统催化剂,铋系半导体具有独特的层状结构和适宜的禁带宽度,对光的利用率更高。层状结构使铋系材料能在层内诱导内部电场,促进光生电子和空穴分离,加速载流子转移,提升光催化性能。本文介绍了一元铋系化合物、二元铋系化合物、卤氧化铋系化合物和含氧酸型铋系化合物的制备、表征及性能,简述了铋系材料作为光电极材料的优势。综述了其对有机污染物降解的研究,对铋系材料应用于光电催化进行废水处理进行了总结,新型催化剂的开发和如何推进建立催化剂全生命周期内对环境产生的影响评价体系是后续研究的重点方向。

SKY:Efficient peer-to-peer networks based on distributed Kautz graphs

Many proposed P2P networks are based on traditional interconnection topologies. Given a static topology, the maintenance mechanism for node join/departure is critical to designing an efficient P2P network. Kautz graphs have many good properties such as constant degree, low congestion and optimal diameter. Due to the complexity in topology maintenance, however, to date there have been no effective P2P networks that are proposed based on Kautz graphs with base ~ 2. To address this problem, this paper presents the ＂distributed Kautz （D-Kautz） graphs＂, which adapt Kautz graphs to the characteristics of P2P networks. Using the D-Kautz graphs we further propose SKY, the first effective P2P network based on Kautz graphs with arbitrary base. The effectiveness of SKY is demonstrated through analysis and simulations.

In situ plasmonic & electrochemical fiber-optic sensor for multi-metal-ions detection

High precision and high throughput detection of heavy metal ions is essential for water quality monitoring and assessment.Herein,we propose a plasmonic & electrochemical dual-mode fiber sensing probe for label-free and real-time detection of multiple ions(Pb2+and Cu2+as examples).This sensor comprises a multimode fiber-single mode fiber reflection probe,the outer surface of which is coated with a gold nanofilm to excite the surface plasmon resonance(SPR) optically and simultaneously serves as an electrochemical working electrode.In traditional electrochemical detection,the enrichment of ions cannot be detected in real-time.However,by utilizing the plasmonic & electrochemical dual-mode detection method,various kinds of metal ions can be deposited onto the gold nanofilm and selectively oxidized during forward potential scanning,and the entire electrochemical process can be monitored by SPR measurement.We experimentally demonstrate that the sensor can simultaneously detect Pb2+and Cu2+in a mixed solution in real-time,providing a linear response over the ion concentration range from 10-12to 10-7M and offering an excellent detection limit(1.69×10-14–5.49×10-13M).The proposed dual-mode fiber sensor has the benefits of remote sensing,compact footprint,and cost-effectiveness and shows excellent potential for water quality risk management in difficult-to-reach environments.

Objective: There is an ongoing debate about whether the management of gastroenteropancreatic(GEP)neuroendocrine carcinoma(NEC) should follow the guidelines of small-cell lung cancer(SCLC). We aim to identify the genetic differences of GEPNEC and its counterpart.Methods: We recruited GEPNEC patients as the main cohort, with lung NEC and digestive adenocarcinomas as comparative cohorts. All patients undergone next-generation sequencing(NGS). Different gene alterations were compared and analyzed between GEPNEC and lung NEC(LNEC), GEPNEC and adenocarcinoma to yield the remarkable genes.Results: We recruited 257 patients, including 99 GEPNEC, 57 LNEC, and 101 digestive adenocarcinomas.Among the mutations, KRAS, RB1, TERT, IL7R, and CTNNB1 were found to have different gene alterations between GEPNEC and LNEC samples. Specific genes for each site were revealed: gastric NEC(TERT amplification),colorectal NEC(KRAS mutation), and bile tract NEC(ARID1A mutation). The gene disparities between small-cell NEC(SCNEC) and large-cell NEC(LCNEC) were KEAP1 and CDH1. Digestive adenocarcinoma was also compared with GEPNEC and suggested RB1, APC, and KRAS as significant genes. The TP53/RB1 mutation pattern was associated with first-line effectiveness. Putative targetable genes and biomarkers in GEPNEC were identified in22.2% of the patients, and they had longer progression-free survival(PFS) upon targetable treatment [12.5 months vs. 3.0 months, HR=0.40(0.21-0.75), P=0.006].Conclusions: This work demonstrated striking gene distinctions in GEPNEC compared with LNEC and adenocarcinoma and their clinical utility.

Helicobacter pylori and immunotherapy for gastrointestinal cancer

Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with the risk of gastrointestinal(GI)cancers;however,its impact on immunotherapy for GI cancers remains uncertain.In this study,we included 10,122 patients who underwent ^(13)C-urea breath tests.Among 636 patients with Epstein-Barr virus–negative microsatellite-stable gastric cancer(GC)who were treated with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 therapy,H.pylori–positive patients exhibited significantly longer immune-related progression-free survival(irPFS)compared with H.pylori–negative patients(6.97 months versus 5.03 months,plite instability–high(MSI-H)colorectal adenocarcinoma and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)had shorter irPFS compared with H.pylori–negative patients(16.13 months versus not reached,p=0.042,HR 2.26,95%CI 1.13–4.50,p=0.021 and 5.57 months versus 6.97 months,p=0.029,HR 1.59,95%CI 1.14–2.23,p=0.006,respectively).The difference in irOS between H.pylori–positive and–negative patients had the same trend as that between dMMR/MSI-H colorectal adenocarcinoma and ESCC patients.We also identified a trend of shorter irPFS and irOS in H.pylori–positive liver cancer and pancreatic cancer patients.In summary,our findings supported that H.pylori infection is a beneficial factor for GC immunotherapy by shaping hot tumor microenvironments.However,in dMMR/MSI-H colorectal adenocarcinoma and ESCC patients,H.pylori adversely affects the efficacy of immunotherapy.

SCautz:a high performance and fault-tolerant datacenter network for modular datacenters

Modular datacenters (MDCs) use shipping containers,encapsulating thousands of servers,as large pluggable building blocks for mega datacenters.The MDC’s "service-free" model poses stricter demand on fault-tolerance of the modular datacenter network (MDCN).Based on the "scale-out" principle,in this paper we propose SCautz,a novel hybrid intra-container network for MDCs.SCautz comprises a base Kautz topology,created by interconnecting servers,and a small number of COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) switches.Moreover,each switch connects a specific number of servers forming "clusters",which,as logical nodes,form multiple higher-level logical Kautz structures.SCautz’s hybrid structure has several advantages.First,it supports multiple running modes for the MDC,while its full structure increases network capacity twofold.Second,it retains the throughput for processing one-to-x traffic in the presence of failures.Finally,it achieves much more graceful network performance degradation than computation and storage capacity do.Results from theoretical analysis and simulations show that SCautz is more viable for intra-container networks.

Embedded DHT overlays in virtual computing environments

With the rapid development of computing and networking technologies, people propose to build harmonious, trusted and transparent Internet-based virtual computing environments (iVCE). The overlay-based organization of dynamic Internet resources is an important approach for iVCE to realizing efficient resource sharing. DHT-based overlays are scalable, low-latency and highly available; however, the current DHT overlay (SKY) in iVCE cannot satisfy the "trust" requirements of Internet applications. To address this problem, in this paper we modify SKY and propose TrustedSKY, an embedded DHT overlay technique in iVCE which supports applications to select trusted nodes to form a "trusted subgroup" in the base overlay and realize secure and trusted DHT routing.
