Effects of baffle position in serpentine flow channel on the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cells

This study used a three-dimensional numerical model of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell with five types of channels:a smooth channel(Case 1);eight rectangular baffles were arranged in the upstream(Case 2),midstream(Case 3),downstream(Case 4),and the entire cathode flow channel(Case 5)to study the effects of baffle position on mass transport,power density,net power,***,the effects of back pressure and humidity on the voltage were *** showed that compared to smooth channels,the oxygen and water transport facilitation at the diffusion layer-channel interface were added 11.53%-20.60%and 7.81%-9.80%at 1.68 A·cm^(-2)by adding *** closer the baffles were to upstream,the higher the total oxygen flux,but the lower the flux uniformity the worse the water *** oxygen flux of upstream baffles was 8.14%higher than that of downstream baffles,but oxygen flux uniformity decreased by 18.96%at 1.68 A·cm^(-2).The order of water removal and voltage improvement was Case 4>Case 5>Case 3>Case 2>Case *** power of Case 4 was 9.87%higher than that of the smooth *** the Case 4,when the cell worked under low back pressure or high humidity,the voltage increments were *** potential increment for the back pressure of 0 atm was 0.9%higher than that of 2 atm(1 atm=101.325 kPa).The potential increment for the humidity of 100%was 7.89%higher than that of 50%.

The structural engineering of metastable nanomaterials with abundant defects has attracted much attention in energy-related fields. The high-temperature shock(HTS) technique, as a rapidly developing and advanced synthesis strategy, offers significant potential for the rational design and fabrication of high-quality nanocatalysts in an ultrafast, scalable, controllable and eco-friendly way. In this review, we provide an overview of various metastable micro-and nanomaterials synthesized via HTS, including single metallic and bimetallic nanostructures, high entropy alloys, metal compounds(e.g. metal oxides) and carbon nanomaterials. Note that HTS provides a new research dimension for nanostructures, i.e. kinetic modulation. Furthermore, we summarize the application of HTS—as supporting films for transmission electron microscopy grids—in the structural engineering of 2D materials, which is vital for the direct imaging of metastable materials. Finally, we discuss the potential future applications of high-throughput and liquid-phase HTS strategies for non-equilibrium micro/nano-manufacturing beyond energy-related *** is believed that this emerging research field will bring new opportunities to the development of nanoscience and nanotechnology in both fundamental and practical aspects.

Effect of drying cracks on swelling and self-healing of bentonite-sand blocks used as engineered barriers for radioactive waste disposal

Experiments were conducted to evaluate the healing of drying cracks in air-dried bentonite-sand blocks after hydration and swelling in groundwater,providing justifications to simplify the protection of blocks prior to installation in a high-level radioactive waste *** groundwater was prepared to represent the geochemistry of Beishan groundwater,and was used to hydrate the blocks during the swelling pressure and swelling strain measurements,as Beishan is the most promising site for China's *** of the surface cracks was recorded by photography,and healing of the internal cracks was visualized by CT images and hydraulic conductivity of air-dried *** results indicate that the maximum swelling pressure and swelling strain are primarily affected by the geochemistry of Beishan groundwater,but not affected by the drying *** maximum swelling pressure and swelling strain of air-dried blocks are comparable to or even higher than the pressure and strain of fresh *** maximum swelling pressure measured in strong(*** ion strength)Beishan groundwater was 44%of the pressure measured in deionized(DI)water,and the maximum swelling strain was reduced to 23%of the strain measured in DI ***,the remained swelling of the blocks hydrated in strong Beishan groundwater was sufficient to heal the surface and internal drying cracks,as demonstrated by the pictures of surface cracks and CT *** hydraulic conductivity of the air-dried block permeated with strong groundwater was comparable(3.7×higher)to the hydraulic conductivity of the fresh block,indicating the self-healing of drying cracks after hydration and swelling in groundwater.A simplified method of protecting the block with plastic wraps before installation is recommended,since the remained swelling of the block hydrated in Beishan groundwater is sufficient to heal the drying cracks.

Testicular development is an important biological process in male and requires interaction between the male germ cells and somatic ***,the mechanisms of testicular development in livestock,particularly in cattle,are poorly ***,cellular heterogeneity hinders the profiling of different cell types at different developmental *** this study,we first performed a single-cell transcriptomic study of the bovine testis development during puberty by using 10×genomics single-cell RNA sequencing(scRNA-seq).By collecting the scRNA-seq data from 11,083 cells from prepubertal and pubertal bovine testes,a high-resolution scRNA-seq atlas was described,identifying 9 somatic and 13 spermatogenic *** also distinguished several stage-specific marker genes for bovine germ cells and somatic cells,such as GRAF2 and MORC1 for SSC(spermatogonial stem cells),HJURP and TCF19 for differentiating spermatogonia,ARSE for immature Sertoli,CLEC12B for mature Sertoli,LOC112441470 for *** conclusion,we have examined the transcription levels and constructed the single-cell developmental maps of germ cells and somatic cells during testicular development in Angus *** datasets provided new insights into spermatogenesis and testicular somatic cell development in cattle.

Strategy and technique for surgical treatment of Ebstein’s anomaly

Background:Ebstein’s anomaly(EA)is a rare and complex congenital heart anomaly,and the effect of surgical treatment is not *** study aims to introduce our experience in management strategies,surgical techniques,and operative indications for patients with Ebstein’s ***:A retrospective study of 258 operations was performed in 253 patients by the same cardiac surgeon in The First Hospital of Tsinghua University between March 2004 and January 2020.32 patients had previously received cardiac surgery in other *** clinical data including diagnosis,operative indications,techniques,pathological changes,and survival rates were collected and ***:Anatomical correction was performed in 203(78.7%)operations,1½ventricle repair in 38(14.7%)operations,tricuspid valve repair only in four operations(1.6%),tricuspid valve replacement in ten(3.9%),total cavopulmonary connection(TCPC)in two(0.8%),and Glenn operation in one operation(0.4%).Reoperation was performed in five patients(2.0%)during *** them,tricuspid valve replacement was performed in one patient,1½ventricle repair in two patients,and tricuspid valve annulus reinforcement in two *** patients died with an early mortality rate of 2.0%.Complete atrioventricular conduction block was complicated in one patient(0.4%).A total of 244 patients was followed up(four in the 253 patients lost)with a duration of 3.0-168.0(87.6±38.4)*** function of 244 patients improved significantly with mean New York Heart Association(NYHA)functional class recovery from 3.5 to *** mean grade of tricuspid valve regurgitation improved from 3.6 to *** late deaths(1.2%)*** survival rates at five and ten years after surgery were 98.6%and 98.2%,*** was performed in five patients(2.0%)during the follow-up ***:Based on our management strategies and operative principles and techniques,anatomical correction of EA is capable of achiev

Oxygenated organic molecules(OOMs)play an important role in the formation of secondary organic aerosols(SOAs),but the mixing states of OOMs are still *** study investigates the mixing states of OOM-containing single particles from the measurements taken using a single particle aerosol mass spectrometer in Guangzhou,China in ***,the particle counts of OOM particles and the mass concentration of secondary organic carbon(SOC)exhibited similar temporal trends throughout the entire *** OOM particles were consistently enriched in secondary ions,including ^(16)O^(−),^(26)CN^(−),^(46)NO_(2)^(−),^(62)NO_(3)^(−),and ^(97)HSO_(4)^(−).In contrast,the number fractions and diurnal patterns of OOM particles among the total detected particles showed similar distributions in August and October;however,the SOC ratios in fine particulate matter were quite different,suggesting that there were different mixing states of single-particle oxygenated *** addition,further classification results indicated that the OOM particles were more aged in October than August,even though the SOC ratios were higher in ***,the distribution of hydrocarbon fragments exhibited a notable decrease from January to October,emphasizing the more aged state of the organics in *** addition,the sharp increase in elemental carbon(EC)-OOM particles in the afternoon in October suggests the potential role of EC in the aging process of ***,in contrast to the bulk analysis of SOC mass concentration,the mixing states of the OOM particles provide insights into the formation process of SOAs in field studies.

In this work,C@Fe_(3)O_(4) composites were prepared through a typical template method with emulsified asphalt as carbon source,ammonium ferric citrate as transition metal oxide precursor,and NaCl as *** an anode for lithium-ion batteries,the optimized C@Fe_(3)O_(4)-1:2 composite exhibits an excellent reversible capacity of 856.6 mA·h·g^(-1)after 100 cycles at 0.1A·g^(-1)and a high capacity of 531.1mA·h·g^(-1)after 300 cycles at 1 A·g^(-1),much better than those of bulk carbon/Fe_(3)O_(4) prepared without *** remarkable cycling performance mainly benefits from its well-designed structure:Fe_(3)O_(4) nanoparticles generated from ammonium ferric citrate during pyrolysis are homogenously encapsulated in graphitized and in-plane porous carbon nanocages derived from petroleum *** carbon nanocages not only improve the conductivity of Fe_(3)O_(4),but also suppress the volume expansion of FesO4 effectively during the charge discharge cycle,thus delivering a robust electrochemical *** work realizes the high value-added utilization of low-cost petroleum asphalt,and can be extended to application of other transition-metal oxides-based anodes.

Maximizing the sustainable recycling of spent lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)shows economic and environmental *** study recovered lithium cobaltate(LiCoO_(2),LCO)from spent LIBs cathode *** recovered LCO was then combined with NaHSO_(3)to remove refractory organic pollutants of carbamazepine(CBZ)in *** degradation of CBZ reached 80.0%within 60 min,by 1O_(2),SO_(4),OH and O_(2)^(-)generated in the LCO/NaHSO_(3)*** electron transfer between Co(III)and Co(II)was beneficial to the generation of free *** LCO/NaHSO_(3)degraded CBZ effectively in both secondary outlet water and tap ***,high concentrations of inorganic ions(Cl^(−),HCO_(3)^(-),HPO_(4)^(2-),SO_(2)−4,NO_(3)^(-))and natural organic matter(humic acid,HA)could inhibit the degradation of *** three cycles,the stability of the LCO/NaHSO_(3)system was demonstrated by the maintained high efficiency in the degradation of *** obtained data indicate that the LCO/NaHSO_(3)system holds great application potential in the field of advanced oxidation degradation of pollutants.
