Trace Element Geochemistry of Magnetite from the Fe(-Cu) Deposits in the Hami Region, Eastern Tianshan Orogenic Belt, NW China

Laser ablation–inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry（LA–ICP–MS） was used to determine the trace element concentrations of magnetite from the Heifengshan, Shuangfengshan, and Shaquanzi Fe（–Cu） deposits in the Eastern Tianshan Orogenic Belt. The magnetite from these deposits typically contains detectable Mg, Al, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Zn and Ga. The trace element contents in magnetite generally vary less than one order of magnitude. The subtle variations of trace element concentrations within a magnetite grain and between the magnetite grains in the same sample probably indicate local inhomogeneity of ore–forming fluids. The variations of Co in magnetite between samples are probably due to the mineral proportion of magnetite and pyrite. Factor analysis has discriminated three types of magnetite： Ni–Mn–V–Ti（Factor 1）, Mg–Al–Zn（Factor 2）, and Ga– Co（Factor 3） magnetite. Magnetite from the Heifengshan and Shuangfengshan Fe deposits has similar normalized trace element spider patterns and cannot be discriminated according to these factors. However, magnetite from the Shaquanzi Fe–Cu deposit has affinity to Factor 2 with lower Mg and Al but higher Zn concentrations, indicating that the ore–forming fluids responsible for the Fe–Cu deposit are different from those for Fe deposits. Chemical composition of magnetite indicates that magnetite from these Fe（–Cu） deposits was formed by hydrothermal processes rather than magmatic differentiation. The formation of these Fe（–Cu） deposits may be related to felsic magmatism.

Re-Os dating of magnetite from the Shaquanzi Fe-Cu deposit,eastern Tianshan,NW China

Magnetite separates from the Shaquanzi Fe-Cu deposit in the eastern Tianshan are used for Re-Os geochronological study. Re-Os data show that magnetite separates contain ca. 0.7 to 50.9 ppb Re and ca. 16 to 63 ppt Os. Eight samples yield a model 3 isochron age of （303 ±12） Ma （2or）, which is within uncertainty consistent with of the Re-Os date （295±7 Ma） of associated pyrite. Tectonic evolution shows that the Late Carboniferous Aqishan-Yamansu belt was a back-arc rift. Therefore, the Re-Os age of ca. 300 Ma indicates that the Shaquanzi Fe-Cu deposit may have formed in a back-arc extensional environment and was closely related to mantle-derived magmatism. The successful application of Re-Os magnetite geochronology in the Shaquanzi Fe-Cu deposit suggests that the purity of magnetite, relatively high Re and Os contents, and the closure of Re-Os systematic are base factors for a successful Re-Os geochronology. There would be a good prospect for Re-Os geochronology for magnet- ite.

Germanium in Magnetite:A Preliminary Review

Magnetite is a very common mineral in various types of iron deposits and some sulfide deposits. Recent studies have focused on the use of trace elements in magnetite to discriminate ore types or trace ore-forming process. Germanium is a disperse element in the crust, but sometimes is not rare in magnetite. Germanium in magnetite can be determined by laser ablation ICP-MS due to its low detection limit（0.0X ppm）. In this study, we summary the Ge data of magnetite from magmatic deposits, iron formations, skarn deposits, iron oxide copper-gold deposits, and igneous derived hydrothermal deposits. Magnetite from iron formations contains relatively high Ge（up to ~250 ppm）, whereas those from all other deposits mostly contains Ge less than 10 ppm, indicating that iron formations can be discriminated from other Fe deposits by Ge contents. Germanium in magmatic/hydrothermal magnetite is controlled by a few factors. Primary magma/fluid composition may be the major control of Ge in magnetite. Higher oxygen fugacity may be beneficial to Ge partition into magnetite. Sulfur fugacity and temperature may have little effect on Ge in magnetite. The enrichment mechanism of Ge in magnetite from iron formations remains unknown due to the complex ore genesis. Germanium along with other elements（Mn, Ni, Ga） and element ratios（Ge/Ga and Ge/Si raios） can distinguish different types of deposits, indicating that Ge can be used as a discriminate factor like Ti and V. Because of the availability of in situ analytical technique like laser ablation ICP-MS, in situ Ge/Si ratio of magnetite can serve as a geochemical tracer and may provide new constraints on the genesis of banded iron formations.

Efficiency of a re-usable Carius tube for determination of platinum group elements in ultramafic rocks

Digestion with aqua regia in Carius tube is commonly employed for determination of PGEs in geological samples. However, silicates cannot be completely dissolved by aqua regia and PGEs might partially remain in silicate residue. In this study, an ultramafic reference material was used to investigate the efficiencies of a new re-usable Carius tube after digestion at 220 and 240℃, and an autoclave-lined Carius tube at 260 and 280℃. The results show that about 10% of PGEs retained in the silicate residues at 220 and 5% still r℃ emains even digestion temperature increases to 280℃. These results agree with previous works that increasing the digestion pressure and temperature can achieve more effective dissolution. Thus, a modified digestion procedure for determination of PGEs in ultramafic rocks by the re-usable Carius tube was proposed in this study.

Trace element composition of magnetite from the Xinqiao Fe–S(–Cu–Au) deposit, Tongling, Eastern China: constraints on fluid evolution and ore genesis

The Xinqiao deposit is one of several polymetallic deposits in the Tongling ore district. There are two types of mineralization in the Xinqiao： skarn-type and stratiform-type. The skarn-type mineralization is characterized by iron oxides such as magnetite and hematite, whereas stratiform-type mineralization is characterized by massive sulfides with small amounts of magnetite and hematite. We defined three types of ores within the strati- form-type mineralization by the mineral assemblages and ore structures. Type Ⅰ ore is represented by magnetite crosscut by minor calcite veins. Type Ⅱ is a network ore composed of magnetite and crosscutting pyrite. Type Ⅲ is a massive ore containing calcite and hematite. Type Ⅰ magnetite is characterized by highly variable trace element content, whereas Type Ⅱ magnetite has consistently higher Si, Ti, V, and Nb. Type Ⅲ magnetite contains more In, Sn, and As than the other two types. Fluid-rock interaction, oxygen fugacity （fO2）, and temperature （T） are the main factors controlling element variation between the different magnetite types. Type I magnetite was formed by more extensive fluid-rock interaction than the other two types at moderate fO2 and T conditions. Type Ⅱ magnetite is thought to have formed in relatively low fO2 and high-Tenvironments, and Type Ⅲ in relatively high fOe and moderate-T environments. Ca ＋ Al ＋ Mn and Ti ＋ V discrimination diagrams show that magnetite in the Xin qiao deposit is hydrothermal in origin and is possibly linked with skarn.

Parkinson’s disease(PD)is a neurodegenerative condition that results in dyskinesia,with oxidative stress playing a pivotal role in its *** peptides may thus present therapeutic potential for *** this study,a novel cathelicidin peptide(Cath-KP;GCSGRFCNLF NNRRPGRLTLIHRPGGDKRTSTGLIYV)was identified from the skin of the Asiatic painted frog(Kaloula pulchra).Structural analysis using circular dichroism and homology modeling revealed a uniqueαββconformation for *** vitro experiments,including free radical scavenging and ferric-reducing antioxidant analyses,confirmed its antioxidant *** the 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium ion(MPP^(+))-induced dopamine cell line and 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine(MPTP)-induced PD mice,Cath-KP was found to penetrate cells and reach deep brain tissues,resulting in improved MPP^(+)-induced cell viability and reduced oxidative stress-induced damage by promoting antioxidant enzyme expression and alleviating mitochondrial and intracellular reactive oxygen species accumulation through Sirtuin-1(Sirt1)/Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)pathway *** focal adhesion kinase(FAK)and p38 were also identified as regulatory *** the MPTP-induced PD mice,Cath-KP administration increased the number of tyrosine hydroxylase(TH)-positive neurons,restored TH content,and ameliorated *** the best of our knowledge,this study is the first to report on a cathelicidin peptide demonstrating potent antioxidant and neuroprotective properties in a PD model by targeting oxidative *** findings expand the known functions of cathelicidins,and hold promise for the development of therapeutic agents for PD.

Targeted genotyping is an extremely powerful approach for the detection of known genetic variations that are biologically or clinically ***,for non-model organisms,large-scale target geno-typing in a cost-effective manner remains a major *** address this issue,we present an ultrahigh-multiplex,in-solution probe array-based high-throughput diverse marker genotyping(HD-Marker)approach that is capable of targeted genotyping of up to 86000 loci,with coverage of the whole gene repertoire,in what is a 27-fold and six-fold multiplex increase in comparison with the conventional Illumina GoldenGate and original HD-Marker assays,*** perform extensive analyses of var-ious ultrahigh-multiplex levels of HD-Marker(30 k-plex,56 k-plex,and 86 k-plex)and show the power and excellent performance of the proposed method with an extremely high capture rate(about 96%)and genotyping accuracy(about 96%).With great advantages in terms of cost(as low as 0.0006 USD per geno-type)and high technical flexibility,HD-Marker is a highly efficient and powerful tool with broad appli-cation potential for genetic,ecological,and evolutionary studies of non-model organisms.

Molecular movements of trehalose inside a single network enabling a rapidly-recoverable tough hydrogel

It remains a challenge to achieve rapidly recoverable hydrogels by molecular hydrogen-bonding interaction because of its slow inter-action *** work for the first time reports a trehalose(Tre)-based molecular movement mechanism inside a single network of polyacrylamide(PAM)that accelerates the kinetics of hydrogenbonding interaction,and thereby endows the hydrogel with high toughness and rapid shape and mechanical *** resultant PAM@Tre hydrogel is capable of full shape recovery after 10,000 loading/unloading cycles at a strain of 500%.Even after being stretched at a strain of 2500%,it can recover to its original shape within 10 ***,the molecular movement of trehalose also endows the PAM@Tre hydrogel with fracture energy and toughness as high as~9000 J m^(-2) and~1600 kJ m^(-3),respec-tively,leading to strong resistance to both static and dynamic *** PAM@Tre hydrogel is thus believed to have enormous potentials in protection devices,bionic skin,soft actuator,and stretchable electronics.
