The concept of gene therapy for glaucoma:the dream that has not come true yet

Gene therapies,despite of being a relatively new therapeutic approach,have a potential to become an important alternative to current treatment strategies in *** glaucoma is not considered a single gene disease,the identified goals of gene therapy would be rather to provide neuroprotection of retinal ganglion cells,especially,in intraocular-pressure-independent *** most commonly reported type of vector for gene delivery in glaucoma studies is adeno-associated virus serotype 2 that has a high tro pism to retinal ganglion cells,res ulting in long-term expression and low immunogenic *** gene thera py studies recruit inducible and genetic animal models of optic neuropathy,like DBA/2J mice model of high-tension glaucoma and the optic nerve *** gene therapy-based neuroprotection of retinal ganglion cells is targeting specific genes translating to growth factors(i.e.,brain derived neurotrophic factor,and its receptor TrkB),regulation of apoptosis and neurodegeneration(i.e.,Bcl-xl,Xiap,FAS system,nicotinamide mononucleotide adenylyl transferase 2,Digit3 and Sarm1),immunomodulation(i.e.,Crry,C3 complement),modulation of neuroinflammation(i.e.,e rythropoietin),reduction of excitotoxicity(i.e.,Com KIlα)and transcription regulation(i.e.,Max,Nrf2).On the other hand,some of gene therapy studies focus on lowering intra ocular pressure,by impacting genes involved in both,decreasing aqueous humor production(i.e.,aquaporin 1),and increasing outflow facility(i.e.,COX2,prostaglandin F2a receptor,RhoA/RhoA kinase signaling pathway,MMP1,Myocilin).The goal of this review is to summarize the current stateof-art and the direction of development of gene therapy strategies for glaucomatous neuropathy.

InP quantum dots(QDs)are promising heavy-metal-free materials for next-generation solid-state lighting,covering from visible to near-infrared(NIR)*** with the rapid development of visible InP QDs,the synthesis of high-performance NIR InP QDs remains to be *** this work,we report a simple one-pot synthesis of NIR InP QDs by controlling the Cu doping and designing a multishell *** replacing the conventional highly reactive phosphorus precursor with a slightly less reactive and low-cost ammonia phosphorus precursor,the nucleation process is effectively regulated for efficient Cu *** addition,the epitaxial growth of the ZnSe/ZnS shell further improves the stability and optical properties of InP ***,the synthesized Cu:InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs have a photoluminescence quantum yield of 70%centered at 833 *** NIR InP lightemitting diodes exhibit a maximum radiance of 3.1 W·sr^(-1)·m^(-2)and a peak external quantum efficiency of 2.71%centered at 864 nm.

Supported catalytic packing prepared from ceramic packing for reactive distillation of ethyl acetate

In this work,a strategy of"etching-modification filling-graft copolymerization"was proposed to load the acidic ionic polyionic liquid on the smooth ceramic *** this way,commercial ceramic Raschig rings were successfully transformed into the supported catalytic packing for the reactive distillation,and were further evaluated with esterification reaction of ethyl acetate by means of the fully mixed reactor,the ultrasonic destruction,the cyclic catalysis reaction and the lab-scale distillation column *** catalyst coating has good adhesion with the *** can withstand 24 h of ultrasound damage and shows good stability in three cycle catalytic *** kind of coated catalyst has better catalytic activity than the commercial Amberlyst 15 *** the lab-scale reaction distillation,the supported catalyst Raschig ring can achieve a higher conversion in comparison with the tea bag catalytic packing of Amberlyst 15 dry under some conditions.

A time domain induced polarization relaxation time spectrum inversion method based on a damping factor and residual correction

Relaxation time spectra （RTS） derived from time domain induced polarization data （TDIP） are helpful to assess oil reservoir pore structures. However, due to the sensitivity to the signal-to-noise ratio （SNR）, the inversion accuracy of the traditional singular value decomposition （SVD） inversion method reduces with a decrease of SNR. In order to enhance the inversion accuracy and improve robustness of the inversion method to the SNR, an improved inversion method, based on damping factor and spectrum component residual correction, is proposed in this study. The numerical inversion results show that the oscillation of the RTS derived from the SVD method increased with a decrease of SNR, which makes it impossible to get accurate inversion components. However, the SNR has little influence on inversion components of the improved method, and the RTS has high inversion accuracy and robustness. Moreover, RTS derived from core sample data is basically in accord with the pore-size distribution curve, and the RTS derived from the actual induced polarization logging data is smooth and continuous, which indicates that the improved method is practicable.

A Branch-independence-based Reliability Assessment Approach for Transmission Systems

This paper proposes a branch-independence-based reliability assessment approach for transmission *** approach consists of branch decoupling and state-space partition *** integrating an impact-increment-based reliability index calculation model and the proposed branch decoupling technique,a proportion of sampled contingency states no longer need to be analyzed using the time-consuming optimal power flow(OPF)*** this way,the technique speeds up the calculation of reliability *** first-order contingency states have a high probability of being sampled,we propose a state-space partition technique to replace first-order contingency state simulation with first-order contingency state ***,the calculation of reliability indices is further accelerated by avoiding a large amount of repetitive OPF analyses during simulation process without affecting reliability index *** validity and applicability of our approach are verified using the IEEE 118-bus and IEEE 145-bus *** results indicate that the proposed approach can improve computational efficiency without decreasing accuracy.

Copper recovery from waste printed circuit boards concentrated metal scraps by electrolysis

Copper recovery is the core of waste printed circuit boards （WPCBs） treatment. In this study, we proposed a feasible and efficient way to recover copper from WPCBs concentrated metal scraps by direct electrolysis and thctors that affect copper recovery rate and purity, mainly CuSO4.5H2O concentration, NaCI concentration, H2SO4 concentration and current density, were discussed in detail. The results indicated that copper recovery rate increased first with the increase ofCuSO4- 5H2O, NaCI, H2SO4 and current density and then decreased with further increasing these conditions. NaCI, H2SO4 and current density also showed a similar impact on copper purity, which also increased first and then decreased. Copper purity increased with the increase of CuSO4.5H2O. When the concentration of CuSO4-5H2O NaCI and H2oSO4 was respectively 90, 40 and 118 g/L and current density was 80 mA/cm-, copper recovery rate and purity was up to 97.32% and 99.86%, respectively. Thus, electrolysis proposes a feasible and prospective approach for waste printed circuit boards recycle, even for e-waste, though more researches are needed for industrial application.

Paclitaxel(Taxol)stands out as a tetracyclic diterpenoid natural product derived from the endangered plant *** as a pivotal broad-spectrum anticancer drug,it has garnered widespread attention due to its low yield,intricate structure,unique anticancer mechanism,and remarkable efficacy(Tong et al.,2021).Although chemists achieved the total synthesis of paclitaxel 30 years ago,after decades of research,the natural biosynthetic pathway for its production remains an enigma(Ajikumar et al.,2010;Malci et al.,2023).A recent breakthrough,published in Molecular Plant by Alisdair ***'s team,unveils a minimal gene set of 18 genes required for paclitaxel biosynthesis(Zhang et al.,2023),representing a significant mark toward unraveling the entire biosynthetic pathway and enhancing paclitaxel production efficiency.
