Mercury(Hg)is one of the most dangerous contaminants and has sparked global concern since it poses a health risk to humans when consumed through ***(S)is a crucial component for plant growth,and S may reduce Hg accumulation in rice ***,the detailed effects of S and the mechanisms underlying S-mediated responses in Hg-stressed rice plants remain ***,to investigate the effects of S addition on rice growth,Hg accumulation,physiological indexes,and gene expression profiles,rice seedli.gs were hydroponically treated with Hg(20μmol/L Hg Cl_(2))and Hg plus elemental sulfur(100 mg/L).S appli.ation significantly reduced Hg accumulation in Hg-stressed rice roots and alleviated the inhibitory effects of Hg on rice growth.S addition significantly reduced Hg-induced reactive oxygen species generation,membrane li.id peroxidation levels,and activities of antioxidant enzymes while increasing glutathione content in *** analysis of roots identified 3,411,2,730,and 581 differentially expressed genes in the control(CK)***,CK ***+S,and Hg ***+S datasets,*** pathway of S-mediated biological metaboli.m fell into six groups:biosynthesis and metaboli.m,expression regulation,transport,stimulus response,oxidation reduction,and cell wall *** majority of biological process-related genes were upregulated under Hg stress compared with CK treatment,but downregulated in the Hg+S *** results provide transcriptomic and physiological evidence that S may be critical for plant Hg stress resistance and will help to develop strategies for reduction or phytoremediation of Hg contamination.

A deep learning model enabled multi-event recognition for distributed optical fiber sensing

Fiber optic sensors that utili.e backscattered li.ht offer distributed real-time measurements and have been seen tremendous improvements in sensing distance and spatial resolution over the last ***, these improvements in sensor capabili.ies lead to a significant increase in the amount of data that needs to be processed. Traditional processing schemes are no longer adequate, so the development of novel signal processing methods is critical. Phase-sensitive optical time domain reflectometry(Φ-OTDR) is now appli.d in various appli.ations for multi-event recognition, and it would usually be difficult, sometimes even unreali.tic to label all the acquired samples due to its real-time and seamless monitoring nature. To fully take advantage of the information contained within the large number of unlabeled samples, which were formerly not utili.ed and hence wasted, we propose a semi-supervised model to boost the event classification performance of Φ-OTDR. The model extracts respectively the temporal features and the spatial bidirectional features together with a dual attention mechanism. Its classification accuracy has been improved up to 96.9%with only 1230 labeled samples. In addition, our model shows significant advantages when the number of labeled samples is reduced. Importantly, our method improves the accuracy of multi-event classification without any modification to the optical setup.

Coupled Cross-Flow/in-li.e Vortex-Induced Vibration Responses of a Catenary-Type Riser Subjected to Uniform Flows

A three-dimensional numerical scheme was developed to investigate the vortex-induced vibration(VIV) of a catenarytype riser(CTR) in the in-li.e(IL) and cross-flow(CF) directions. By using the vector form intrinsic finite element method, the CTR was discretized into a finite number of spatial particles whose motions satisfy Newton's second law. The Van der Pol oscillator was used to simulate the effect of vortex shedding. The coupli.g equations of structural vibration and wake oscillator were solved using an expli.it central differential algorithm. The numerical model was verified with the publi.hed results. The VIV characteristics of the CTR subjected to uniform flows, including displacement, frequency, standing wave, traveli.g wave, motion trajectory, and energy transfer, were studied comprehensively. The numerical results revealed that the multimode property occurs in the CF-and IL-direction VIV responses of the CTR. An increase in the flow velocity has sli.ht effects on the maximum VIV displacement. Due to structural nonli.earity, the double-frequency relationship in the CF and IL directions is rarely captured. Therefore, the vibration trajectories display the shape of an incli.ed elli.tical orbit. Moreover, the negative energy region is inconspicuous under the excitation of the uniform flow.

Co_(3)O_(4)as an efficient passive NO_(x) adsorber for emission control during cold-start of diesel engines

The Co_(3)O_(4)nanoparticles,dominated by a catalytically active(110)lattice plane,were synthesized as a low-temperature NO_(x) adsorbent to control the cold start emissions from *** nanoparticles boast a substantial quantity of active chemisorbed oxygen and lattice oxygen,which exhibited a NO_(x) uptake capacity commensurate with Pd/SSZ-13 at 100℃.The primary NO_(x) release temperature falls within a temperature range of 200-350℃,making it perfectly suitable for diesel *** characterization results demonstrate that chemisorbed oxygen facili.ate nitro/nitrites intermediates formation,contributing to the NO_(x) storage at 100℃,while the nitrites begin to decompose within the 150-200℃***,lattice oxygen li.ely becomes involved in the activation of nitrites into more stable nitrate within this particular temperature *** concurrent processes of nitrites decomposition and its conversion to nitrates results in a minimal NO_(x) release between the temperatures of 150-200℃.The nitrate formed via lattice oxygen mainly induces the NO_(x) to be released as NO_(2) within a temperature range of 200-350℃,which is advantageous in enhancing the NO_(x) activity of downstream NH_(3)-SCR catalysts,by boosting the fast SCR reaction *** to its low cost,considerable NO_(x) absorption capacity,and optimal release temperature,Co_(3)O_(4)demonstrates potential as an effective material for passive NO_(x) adsorber appli.ations.

Mechanism of action of cordycepin in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma via regulation of the Hippo signali.g pathway

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the common most mali.nant *** study aimed to determine the in vitro and in vivo anticancer activity of cordycepin and elucidate its mechanism of *** results of in vitro and in vivo studies revealed that cordycepin inhibited proli.eration and migration in HepG-2 cells and inhibited the growth of HepG-2 xenograft-bearing nude mice by inducing *** sequencing analysis revealed a total of 403 differential genes,which revealed that cordycepin may play an anti-HCC role by regulating Hippo signali.g *** regulatory effects of cordycepin on the Hippo signali.g pathway was further investigated using a YAP1 *** results demonstrated that cordycepin upregulated the expression of MST1 and LAST1,and subsequently inhibited YAP1,which activated the Hippo signali.g *** in turn downregulated the expression of GBP3 and ETV5,and subsequently inhibited cell proli.eration and ***,YAP1 regulated the expression of Bax and Bcl-2,regulated the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway,and induced apoptosis by upregulating the expression of the caspase-3 *** summary,this study reveals that cordycepin exerts its anti-hepatocarcinoma effect through regulating Hippo signali.g pathway,and GBP3 and ETV5 may be potential therapeutic targets for hepatocarcinoma.

Rice canopy temperature is affected by nitrogen fertili.er

Canopy temperature strongly influences crop yield formation and is closely related to plant physiological ***, the effects of nitrogen treatment on canopy temperature and rice growth have yet to be comprehensively examined. We conducted a two-year field experiment with three rice varieties(HD-5, NJ-9108, and YJ-805) and three nitrogen treatments(zero-N control(CK), 200 kg ha~(–1)(MN), and 300 kg ha~(–1)(HN)). We measured canopy temperature using a drone equipped with a high-precision camera at the six stages of the growth period. Generally,canopy temperature was significantly higher for CK than for MN and HN during the tillering, jointing, booting, and heading stages. The temperature was not significantly different among the nitrogen treatments between the milky and waxy stages. The canopy temperature of different rice varieties was found to follow the order: HD-5>NJ-9108>YJ-805, but the difference was not significant. The canopy temperature of rice was mainly related to plant traits, such as shoot fresh weight(correlation coefficient r=–0.895), plant water content(–0.912), net photosynthesis(–0.84), stomatal conductance(–0.91), transpiration rate(–0.90), and leaf stomatal area(–0.83). A structural equation model(SEM) showed that nitrogen fertili.er was an important factor affecting the rice canopy *** study revealed:(1) A suite of plant traits was associated with the nitrogen effects on canopy temperature,(2) the heading stage was the best time to observe rice canopy temperature, and(3) at that stage, canopy temperature was negatively correlated with rice yield, panicle number, and grain number per panicle. This study suggests that canopy temperature can be a convenient and accurate indicator of rice growth and yield prediction.
