Ultrathin poly(cyclocarbonate-ether)-based composite electrolyte reinforced with high-strength functional skeleton

Composite polymer electrolytes(CPEs)are considered to be the most promising to break through the performance and safety limitations of traditional lithium-ion batteries because of their excellent electrochemical and mechanical properties.Aiming at the performance limitations of the most common polyether matrix such as poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO),a novel poly(cyclocarbonate-ether)polymer matrix was prepared by in-situ thermal curing,the weaker interaction between its C=O bond and Li^(+)can promote the rapid transport of Li^(+).Adding ionic liquid and active filler LLZTO to the matrix can synergistically reduce the crystallinity of matrix and promote the dissociation of lithium salts.In addition,a 3D functional skeleton made of polyacrylonitrile(PAN)and lithium fluoride(LiF)can greatly improve the mechanical strength of polymer matrix after cold pressing,and Li F is also conducive to interface stability.The thickness of the optimal sample(VP6L/CPL)was only 25μm,and its ionic conductivity,lithium ion transference number,and electrochemical stability window were as high as 7.17×10^(-4)S cm^(-1)(25℃),0.54 and 5.4 V,respectively,while the mechanical strength reaches 6.1 MPa,which can fully inhibit the growth of lithium dendrites.The excellent electrochemical performance and mechanical strength enable the assembled Li|VP6L/CPL|Li battery to be continuously charged for over 200 h and cycled stably for more than 2300 h,and Li|VP6L/CPL|LFP battery can be stably cycled for more than 400 and 550 cycles at 1 C(40℃)and 0.5 C(25℃),respectively.

3D flame-retardant skeleton reinforced polymer electrolyte for solid-state dendrite-free lithium metal batteries

For solid polymer electrolytes(SPEs),improving their mechanical and electrochemical properties is the key to obtaining batteries with higher safety and higher energy density.Herein,a novel synergistic strategy proposed is preparing a 3D flame-retardant skeleton(3DPA)and adding nano-multifunctional fillers(Li-ILs@ZIF-8).In addition to providing mechanical support for the polyethylene oxide(PEO)matrix,3DPA also has further contributed to the system’s flame retardancy and further improved the safety.Simultaneously,the electrochemical performance is fully guaranteed by rigid Li-ILs@ZIF-8,which provides fast migration channels forLi^(+),reduces the crystallinity of PEO and effectively inhibits lithium dendrites.The limiting oxygen index of the optimal sample(PL3Z/PA)is as high as 20.5%,and the ionic conductivity reaches 2.89×10^(-4) and 0.91×10^(-3) S cm^(-1) at 25 and 55°C,respectively.The assembled Li|PL3Z/PA|Li battery can be cycled stably for more than 1000 h at a current density of 0.1 m A cm^(-2) without short circuit being pierced by lithium dendrites.The specific capacity of the LFP|PL3Z/PA|Li battery was 160.5 m Ah g^(-1) under a current density of 0.5 C,and the capacity retention rate was 90.0%after 300 cycles.

Targeting the alternative bile acid synthetic pathway for metabolic diseases

The gut microbiota is profoundly involved in glucose and lipid metabolism,in part by regulating bile acid(BA)metabolism and affecting multiple BA-receptor signaling pathways.BAs are synthesized in the liver by multi-step reactions catalyzed via two distinct routes,the classical pathway(producing the 12α-hydroxylated primary BA,cholic acid),and the alternative pathway(producing the non-12α-hydroxylated primary BA,chenodeoxycholic acid).BA synthesis and excretion is a major pathway of cholesterol and lipid catabolism,and thus,is implicated in a variety of metabolic diseases including obesity,insulin resistance,and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.Additionally,both oxysterols and BAs function as signaling molecules that activate multiple nuclear and membrane receptor-mediated signaling pathways in various tissues,regulating glucose,lipid homeostasis,inflammation,and energy expenditure.Modulating BA synthesis and composition to regulate BA signaling is an interesting and novel direction for developing therapies for metabolic disease.In this review,we summarize the most recent findings on the role of BA synthetic pathways,with a focus on the role of the alternative pathway,which has been under-investigated,in treating hyperglycemia and fatty liver disease.We also discuss future perspectives to develop promising pharmacological strategies targeting the alternative BA synthetic pathway for the treatment of metabolic diseases.

Calorie restriction and its impact on gut microbial composition and global metabolism

Calorie restriction (CR) is a dietary regimen that reduces calorie intake without incurring malnutrition or a reduction in essential nutrients. It has long been recognized as a natural strategy for promoting health, extending longevity, and prevents the development of metabolic and age-related diseases. In the present review, we focus on the general effect of CR on gut microbiota composition and global metabolism. We also propose mechanisms for its beneficial effect. Results showed that probiotic and butyrate-producing microbes increased their relative abundance, whereas proinflammatory strains exhibited suppressed relative abundance following CR. Analyses of the gut microbial and host metabolisms revealed that most host microbial co-metabolites were changed due to CR. Examples of dramatic CR-induced changes in host metabolism included a decrease in the rate of lipid biosynthesis and an increase in the rates of fatty acid catabolism, β-oxidation, glycogenolysis, and gluconeogenesis. The observed phenotypes and the further verification of the direct link between gut microbiota and metabolome may benefit patients that are at risk for developing metabolic disease. Thus, improved gut microbiota composition and metabolome are potential biomarkers for determining the effectiveness of dietary interventions for age-related and metabolic diseases.

Colorectal cancer(CRC)and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)are the second and third most common causes of death by cancer,respectively.The etiologies of the two cancers are either infectious insult or due to chronic use of alcohol,smoking,diet,obesity and diabetes.Pathological changes in the composition of the gut microbiota that lead to intestinal inflammation are a common factor for both HCC and CRC.However,the gut microbiota of the cancer patient evolves with disease pathogenesis in unique ways that are affected by etiologies and environmental factors.In this review,we examine the changes that occur in the composition of the gut microbiota across the stages of the HCC and CRC.Based on the idea that the gut microbiota are an additional“lifeline”and contribute to the tumor microenvironment,we can observe from previously published literature how the microbiota can cause a shift in the balance from normal→inflammation→diminished inflammation from early to later disease stages.This pattern leads to the hypothesis that tumor survival depends on a less proinflammatory tumor microenvironment.The differences observed in the gut microbiota composition between different disease etiologies as well as between HCC and CRC suggest that the tumor microenvironment is unique for each case.

Bile acids(BAs)play a crucial role in nutrient absorption and act as key regulators of lipid and glucose metabolism and immune homeostasis.Through the enterohepatic circulation,BAs are synthesized,metabolized,and reabsorbed,with a portion entering the vascular circulation and distributing systemically.This allows BAs to interact with receptors in all major organs,leading to organ-organ interactions that regulate both local and global metabolic processes,as well as the immune system.This review focuses on the whole-body effects of BA-mediated metabolic and immunological regulation,including in the brain,heart,liver,intestine,eyes,skin,adipose tissue,and muscle.Targeting BA synthesis and receptor signaling is a promising strategy for the development of novel therapies for various diseases throughout the body.

Global research on cognitive behavioural therapy for schizophrenia from 2000 to 2019:a bibliometric analysis via CiteSpace

Background Cognitive behavioural therapy(CBT)is considered to be an effective treatment for schizophrenia.In recent years,researchers have published clinical research results on CBT for schizophrenia.However,there is currently a lack of bibliometric analysis on CBT for schizophrenia.Aims To understand the current situation and research trends of CBT for schizophrenia,and to provide valuable information for researchers in this field.Methods Literature was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database.CiteSpace was used to visually analyse the current status of research on CBT for schizophrenia,as well as trends and points of general interest on this topic.Results A total of 1151 papers were retrieved.The annual number of publications has increased 417.65%from 2000 to 2019.Schizophrenia Research was the most active journal.McGorry enjoys considerable influence.The University of London is deemed to be the most active research institution.England and the USA retain the highest scientific productivity in this field.China and Norway might make more contributions to this field in the future.The most important research topics are randomised controlled trials of CBT for schizophrenia,meta-analysis,scale selection and research on the improvement of quality of life.Results from the following keywords‘psychoeducation’,‘insomnia’,‘individual’,‘mental illness’,‘major depressive disorder’,‘efficacy’,‘internalised stigma’and‘remediation’indicated new research frontiers in this field.Conclusions The field of CBT for schizophrenia is progressing and has great potential.The level and quality of research in this field is high.The proposal of research hotspots and frontiers serves as a direction for researchers in this field.Researchers around the world should strengthen their cooperation and communication to promote further development of this field.

Intestinal lysozyme releases Nod2 ligand(s) to promote the intestinal mucosal adjuvant activity of cholera toxin

Commensal bacteria boost serum IgG production in response to oral immunization with antigen and cholera toxin(CT)in a manner that depends on Nod2(nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-containing protein 2).In this study,we examined the role of intestinal lysozyme(Lyz1)in adjuvant activity of CT.We found that Lyz1 released Nod2 ligand(s)from bacteria.Lyz1 deficiency reduced the level of circulating Nod2 ligand in mice.Lyz1 deficiency also reduced the production of IgG and T-cellspecific cytokines after oral immunization in mice.Supplementing Lyz1-deficient mice with MDP restored IgG production.Furthermore,overexpression of Lyz1 in intestinal epithelium boosted the antigen-specific IgG response induced by CT.Collectively,our results indicate that Lyz1 plays an important role in mediating the immune regulatory effect of commensal bacteria through the release of Nod2 ligand(s).

An emerging probiotic with liver health benefits for smokers

Cigarette smoking is considered a risk factor for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).In a study recently published in Nature,Chen et al.unveiled a mechanistic role of nicotine in NAFLD progression.In addition,they identified a gut bacterium Bacteroides xylanisolvens that can reduce intestinal nicotine levels,and thus improve nicotine-induced NAFLD phenotypes in mice.Tobacco use is a leading cause of preventable disease and death worldwide.The number of smokers worldwide has been reported to be over 1.1 billion,accounting for about 15%of the global population[1].
