Enrichment and transfer of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) through dust aerosol generation from soil to the air

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)are major organic pollutants in *** is known that they are released to the atmosphere by wind via dust aerosol ***,it remains unclear how these pollutants are transferred through the air/soil *** this study,dust aerosols were generated in the laboratory using soils(sandy loam and loam)with various physicochemical *** PAH concentrations of these soils and their generated dust aerosol were measured,showing that the enrichment factors(EFs)of PAHs were affected by soil texture,PAH contamination level,molecular weight of PAH species and aerosol *** PAHs with higher EFs(6.24–123.35 in dust PM_(2.5);7.02–47.65 in dust PM_(10))usually had high molecular weights with more than four aromatic *** addition,the positive correlation between EFs of PAHs and the total OCaerosol content of dust aerosol in different particle sizes was also statistically significant(r=0.440,P<0.05).This work provides insights into the relationship between atmospheric PAHs and the contaminated soils and the transfer process of PAHs through the soil-air interface.

The evapotranspiration(ET)from urban vegetation is recognized as an effective way to improve the urban thermal ***,the traditional ET measurement approaches,such as the sap flow method,are limited in providing urban ET for specific ***,establishing quantitative relationship between cooling effects and ET becomes challenging,which is crucial for understanding the role of urban greenery in mitigating urban *** overcome this challenge,an estimation model based on the three-temperature(3T)model was developed for accurately estimating urban ET by employing a reference tree with accurate ET *** contrast to the 3T model,this study proposed a new method(modified 3T model)that considers the influence of the three-dimensional crown structure on the energy ***,it retains the advantage over traditional ET models by not requiring the calculation of resistance *** reduces the impact of uncertainty in the estimated resistance parameters on the ET *** modified 3T model was validated based on the sap flow method and Bowen ratio system,where the results indicated good agreement between the modified 3T model and measured ET data,with root mean square errors of 22.2 W·m^(−2) and 26.4 W·m^(−2),***,the absolute relative error of ET estimation was affected by energy-related factors,such as solar radiation,air temperature,and relative *** modified 3T model exhibited low sensitivity to surface temperatures,where the average sensitivity coefficients were below±0.15 from 0600 local time(LT)to 1700 *** the low accuracy of surface temperatures measured by infrared cameras(±2℃),it would be beneficial to combine the modified 3T model with unmanned aerial vehicles and infrared remote sensing to measure urban ET.

To solve the inaccurate injection quantity problem in multiple injections of high pressure common rail injection system,in this paper,a simulation model of the system is developed in AMESim environment,and the injection quantity fluctuation characteristics with respect to the dwell time between consecutive injections and pilot injection quantity are *** results show that injection quantity fluctuates periodically and the fluctuation range attenuates gradually with increasing dwell *** addition,under the same main injection,the fluctuation amplitude of the fuel injection quantity increases with the increase of pilot injection ***,the influence of rail pressure on fuel injection quantity fluctuation is also ***,a fuel compensation control strategy based on map for multiple injections is designed which can improve the injection control effectively.

To achieve the differential function of electric vehicle of two wheel-hub motors,by following the optimal slip ratio of each wheel and equalizing the slip ratio of both drive wheels as target,a differential control strategy based on slip ratio is *** the standard μ-s curve to set the fuzzy rule,a fuzzy controller is constructed to estimate the adhesion coefficient of pavement and the optimal slip ***,based on the optimal slip ratio of each wheel,the electronic differential control strategy designed by linear sliding mode is adopted to control the driving torque of the two rear wheels to realize the electronic differential *** simulation results show that the method proposed in this paper is better to realize the differential function of the vehicle and improve the driving stability of the electric vehicle.

Four wheels driven electric vehicle has advantages in stability control,active safety control and other aspects,the reasonable torque distribution strategy directly affects the driving performance of the *** this paper,an optimal torque distribution approach is proposed for electric vehicle equipped with four independent wheel motors to improve vehicle handling and stability ***,a novel objective function is formulated which considering the interference among different performance ***,in order to improve the stability of the vehicle under different driving conditions,the purpose of the dynamic weighting factor is to adjust the relative weight of each performance in the objective *** the same time,the control effect of the controller is controlled by the input parameters,therefore a tire-force estimation based on sliding mode observer is present to improve the accuracy in estimating tire ***,the simulation results indicate that the proposed control can effectively improve the vehicle handling and stability.

The reaction of carbonyl-to-imine/hemiaminal conversion in the atmospheric aqueous phase is a critical pathway to produce the light-absorbing N-containing secondary organic compounds(SOC).The formation mechanism of these compounds has been wildly investigated in bulk solutions with a low ionic ***,the ionic strength in the aqueous phase of the polluted atmosphere may be *** is still unclear whether and to what extent the inorganic ions can affect the SOC *** we prepared the bulk solution with certain ionic strength,in which glyoxal and ammonium were mixed to mimic the aqueous-phase *** characterization by High-resolution Mass Spectrometry was performed to identify the N-containing products,and the light absorption of the mixtures was measured by ultraviolet-visible ***-nine N-containing compounds were identified and divided into four categories(N-heterocyclic chromophores,high-molecular-weight compounds with N-heterocycle,aliphatic imines/hemiaminals,and the unclassified).It was observed that the longer reaction time and higher ionic strength led to the formation of more N-heterocyclic chromophores and the increasing of the lightabsorbance of the *** added inorganic ions were proposed to make the aqueous phase somewhat viscous so that the molecules were prone to undergo consecutive and intramolecular reactions to form the *** general,this study revealed that the enhanced ionic strength and prolonged reaction time had the promotion effect on the lightabsorbing SOC *** implies that the aldehyde-derived aqueous-phase SOC would contribute more light-absorbing particulate matter in the industrial or populated area where inorganic ions are abundant.

Online single particle analysis of chemical composition and mixing state of crop straw burning particles： from laboratory study to field measurement

Fresh straw burning （SB） particles were generated in the laboratory by the combustion of rice straw and corn straw. The chemical composition and mixing state of the fresh SB particles were investigated by an Aerosol Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer （ATOFMS）. Based on the mass spectral patterns, the SB particles were clustered into four major types： Salt, Organic Carbon （OC）, Elemental Carbon （EC）, and internally mixed particles of EC and OC （EC-OC）. In addition, particles containing ash, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, heavy metals or nicotine were also observed. Physical and chemical changes of the SB particles immediately after the emission were analyzed with highly time-resolved data. During the aging processes, the average particle size increased steadily. Freshly emitted organic compounds were gradu- ally oxidized to more oxygenated compounds in the OC- containing particles. Meanwhile, an important displace- ment reaction （2KCI＋ SO24- KzSO4 ＋ 2C1-） was observed. The marker ions for SB particles were optimized and applied to identify the SB particles in the ambient atmosphere. The fluctuation of the number fraction of ambient SB particles sorted by ATOFMS agrees well with that of water soluble K＋ measured by an online ion chromatography, demonstrating that the optimized marker ions could be good tracers for SB particles in field measurements.

Periodontitis is recognized as the major cause of tooth loss in adults, posing an adverse impact on systemic health. In periodontitis, excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) at the inflamed site culminates in periodontal destruction. In this study, a novel ROS-responsive drug delivery system based on polydopamine (PDA) functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles was developed for delivering minocycline hydrochloride (MH) to treat periodontitis. The outer PDA layer and the inner MH of the nanoparticles acted as ROS scavengers and anti-inflammatory agents, respectively. Under the synergistic action of PDA and MH, macrophages were polarized from the pro-inflammatory M1 to the anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype. The in vitro experiments provided convincing evidence that PDA could scavenge ROS effectively, and the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines was attenuated and the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines was enhanced through M1 to M2 polarization of macrophages with the cooperation of MH. In addition, the results obtained from the periodontitis rat models demonstrated that the synergetic effect of PDA and MH prevented alveolar bone loss without causing any adverse effect. Taken together, the results from the present investigation provide a new strategy to remodel the inflammatory microenvironment by inducing the polarization of macrophages from M1 toward M2 state for the treatment of periodontitis.
