A total of 69 strains of thermophilic bacteria were isolated from water, soil and sediment samples from three Indonesia's hot spring areas (Pantai cermin, Kalianda and Banyu wedang) by using Minimal Synthetic Medium (MSM). The extreme thermophile Brevibacillus sp. PLI-1 was found to produce extracellular thermophilic alkaline protease with optimal activity at 70℃ and pH 8.0-9.0. The molecular weight of the protease was estimated to be around 56 kD by SDS-PAGE. The maximum activity of the protease was 26.54 U mL-1. The protease activity did not decrease after 30 min and still retained more than 70% of relative activity after 60 min at 70℃ and pH 8.0. The ion Mg2+ was found to promote protease activity at both low and high concentrations, whereas Cu2+ and Zn2+ could almost completely inhibit the activity. Divalent cation chelator EDTA inhibited the enzyme activity by 55.06% ± 0.27%, while the inhibition caused by PMSF, Leupeptin, Pepstain A and Benzamidine were 66.78% ± 3.25%, 52.37% ± 0.25%, 62.47% ± 2.96% and 50.99% ± 0.24%, respectively. Based on these observations, the enzyme activity was conspicuously sensitive to the serine and cysteine protease inhibitors. All these results indicated that the protease isolated from the strain PLI-1 was a thermophilic protease and had a high-temperature stability and a pH stability.

Novel Evolution Process of Zn-Induced Nanoclusters on Si(111)-(737) Surface

A tiny number of Zn atoms were deposited on Si(111)-(797) surface to study the evolution process of Zninduced nanoclusters. After the deposition, three types(type I, II, and III) of Zn-induced nanoclusters were observed to occupy preferably in the faulted half-unit cells. These Zn-induced nanoclusters are found to be related to one, two, and three displaced Si edge adatoms, and simultaneously cause the depression of one, two, and three closest Si edge adatoms in the neighboring unfaulted half-unit cells at negative voltages, respectively. First-principles adsorption energy calculations show that the observed type I, II, and III nanoclusters can reasonably be assigned as the Zn3Si1, Zn5Si2, and Zn7Si3 clusters,respectively. And Zn3Si1, Zn5Si2, and Zn7Si3 clusters are, respectively, the most stable structures in cases of one, two, and three displaced Si edge adatoms. Based on the above energy-preferred models, the simulated bias-dependent STM images are all well consistent with the experimental observations. Therefore, the most stable Zn7Si3 nanoclusters adsorbed on the Si(111)-(797) surface should grow up on the base of Zn3Si1 and Zn5Si2clusters. A novel evolution process from Zn3Si1 to Zn5Si2, and finally to Zn7Si3 nanocluster is unveiled.

SNARE proteins are a group of membrane-associated proteins involved in exocytosis, secretion and membrane trafficking events in eukaryotic cells. Research on SNARE protein biology has become a more attractive field in recent years, which is applied to marine biology specifically to the fish Tilapia （Oreochromis niloticus）. Plasma membrane fractions of different tissues of Tilapia, including brain, liver-pancreas, intestine, skin and muscle, were extracted, and immuno-decorated with isoform-specific antibodies to the SNARE families and associated proteins. The presence of Syntaxins - 1 A, 2 and 3, SNAP - 23 and SNAP - 25, VAMP - 2, Munc - 18 - 1 and Munc - 13 in the brain was identified, which were differentially distributed in the other organ tissues of the fish Tilapia. The distinct distribution of SNARE and associated proteins will serve as the basis for further investigation into their special secretory function in these tissues of the fish.

Background The lack of social activities among the elderly due to physical limitations can result in loneliness and depression. The spread of COVID-19 has made it difficult for the elderly to conduct stable social activities, increasing feelings of loneliness. The metaverse is a virtual world that mirrors reality. This allows the elderly to overcome the constraints of reality and perform social activities stably and continuously, providing new ideas for alleviating loneliness. Methods By analyzing their needs, a virtual social center framework for the elderly was proposed in this study. In addition, a prototype system was designed according to this framework. The elderly can socialize in virtual reality with metaverse-related technologies and human–computer interaction tools. Additionally, a test was conducted jointly with the chief physician of the geriatric rehabilitation department of a tertiary hospital. Results The results demonstrated that the mental state of the elderly who had used the virtual social center was significantly better than that of those who had not used it. Conclusions Thus, virtual social centers can help relieve loneliness and depression among the elderly with increasing global epidemics and an aging society. Hence,they have promotional value.

Purpose The effect of interventional time for 3% Diquafosol reatment in post-cataract surgery has not been well established.A meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the improvement of ocular surface condition in post-cataract surgery patients who received 3% DQS for various treatment *** Studies were performed based on 5 databases:PubMed,Cochrane Library,Web of Science,Embase,and China National Knowledge *** on changes in Schirmer’s test,tear breakup time(TBUT),corneal staining score,and OSDI score were collected for *** A total of 621 affected eyes from 9 independent clinical studies were included.6 studies conducted Schirmer's test after the application of 3% ***-analysis showed that the difference between 3% DQS and control groups was not statistically significant for short-term application(less than or equal to 1 month)(WMD=0.14,P=0.27,95% CI:-0.11 to 0.39),but was statistically different for long-term application(longer than or equal to 3 months)(WMD=0.76,P=0.03,95% CI:0.08 to 1.45).For the corneal fluorescence staining score,the data from 6 studies indicated that the improvement was statistically significant for short-term application(WMD=-0.40,P<0.00001,95% CI:-0.72 to-0.08)and but not long-term application(WMD=-0.21,P=0.26,95% CI:-0.57 to 0.15).For TBUT,the data from 9 studies indicated that both short-term and long-term application showed significant improvement(WMD=1.70,P<0.00001,95% CI:1.38 to 2.03;WMD=1.52,P<0.00001,95% CI:1.09 to 1.95).Similar results were observed in data from 5 studies with OSDI scores,where both short-term and long-term application showed statistically significant improvements(WMD=-5.41,P<0.00001,95% CI:-7.02 to-3.81;WMD=-6.10,P<0.00001,95% CI:-8.52 to-3.67).Conclusions The application of 3% DQS in post-operative cataract patients has a positive effect on improving the ocular surface ***-term application resulted in lower corneal staining scores,prolonged TBUT,and imp

Objective:To examine differences in outcomes of semi-rigid ureteroscopy(URS)with or without a modified-ureteral-access-sheath(mUAS)to treat large upper ureteral ***:Patients with single,radio-opaque large upper ureteral stone(≥10 mm)treated using semi-rigid URS between August 2013 and October 2016 were retrospectively *** stone-free status was determined from Kidney-ureter-bladder(KUB)X-ray films taken on postoperative Day 1 and after 1 ***:Of 103 patients meeting inclusion criteria,43(41.75%)and 60(58.25%)were treated with semi-rigid URS with and without mUAS,*** immediate stone-free rate(SFR)for the mUAS group was significantly higher than the non-mUAS group(40[93.0%]vs.46[76.7%];p=0.033).The SFR at 1 month was also high for patients treated using mUAS,but not statistically different from patients not treated with mUAS(41[95.3%]mUAS vs.51[85.0%]non-mUAS;p=0.115).Auxiliary procedure rates were significantly lower for mUAS patients compared to non-mUAS patients(2[4.7%]vs.14[23.3%];p=0.01).There were no significant differences in surgical duration and hospital stays,and the overall complication rates were statistically similar for mUAS patients compared to non-mUAS patients(1[2.3%]vs.3[5.0%];p=0.638).

Chemical looping oxidative dehydrogenation (CL-ODH) is an economically promising method for convertingethane into higher value-added ethylene utilizing lattice oxygen in redox catalysts, also known as oxygen carriers. Inthis study, perovskite-type oxide SrCoO_(3-δ) and B-site Mn ion-doped oxygen carriers (SrCo_(1-x)MnxO_(3-δ), x=0.1, 0.2, 0.3)were prepared and tested for the CL-ODH of ethane. The oxygen-deficient perovskite SrCoO_(3-δ) exhibited high ethyleneselectivity of up to 96.7% due to its unique oxygen vacancies and lattice oxygen migration rates. However, its low ethyleneyield limits its application in the CL-ODH of ethane. Mn doping promoted the reducibility of SrCoO_(3-δ) oxygen carriers,thereby improving ethane conversion and ethylene yield, as demonstrated by characterization and evaluation experiments.X-ray diffraction results confirmed the doping of Mn into the lattice of SrCoO_(3-δ), while X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) indicated an increase in lattice oxygen ratio upon incorporation of Mn into the SrCoO_(3-δ) lattice. Additionally, H2temperature-programmed reduction (H2-TPR) tests revealed more peaks at lower temperature reduction zones and a declinein peak positions at higher temperatures. Among the four tested oxygen carriers, SrCo0.8Mn0.2O_(3-δ) exhibited satisfactoryperformance with an ethylene yield of 50% at 710 °C and good stability over 20 redox cycles. The synergistic effect of Mnplays a key role in increasing ethylene yields of SrCoO_(3-δ) oxygen carriers. Accordingly, SrCo0.8Mn0.2O_(3-δ) shows promisingpotential for the efficient production of ethylene from ethane via CL-ODH.
