Climate change is increasingly affecting agricultural outputs,as evidenced by the changing global temperature and extreme weather events that significantly impact crop yields(Lesk et al.,2016).To address this challenge,there is a growing interest in developing crops that can endure these adverse conditions to ensure food *** examples in nature show how crops have adapted to diverse environments(Gutaker and Purugganan,2023),leaving behind a rich genomic *** genomics has started to provide insights into these adaptive processes from evolutionary and genetic perspectives(Savolainen et al.,2013;Aguirre-Liguori et al.,2021;Sang et al.,2022).Recently,Zhang et al.(Zhang et al.,2024)investigated alfalfa(Medicago sativa ***),known as the"queen of forages,"for its broad *** analyzing whole-genome sequencing data of 702 accessions from 24 Medicago species,this study enriches our understanding of how to develop crops and meet the challenges of climate change.

Dynamic photoresponsive molecular crystals are promising candidates for making intelligent devices and materials in the future. Here, we synthesized a new photoactive molecule (E)-2,2-dimethyl-5-[3-(naphthalen-1-yl)allylide]-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione [(E)-DNADD] that undergoes an E-to-Z photoisomerization in both liquid solution and solids when exposed to visible light (405 nm). Compared to the bulk crystals, the photoresponsive behavior in microcrystals was profoundly improved. Highly crystalline (E)-DNADD microplate crystals exhibit robust motions, including bending, curling, and coiling under light irradiation. The photoproduct conversion of the photochemical reaction in the microplate is no more than 20%, while the large bending curvature of the coiled illuminated samples was estimated at approximately 150-300 mm(-1), comparable to some photoactive nanowires. Our results indicate that shrinking crystal dimensions can boost the photoresponses in molecular crystals and provide a facile strategy for developing dynamic molecular crystals at the microscopic scale.

Website fingerprinting,also known asWF,is a traffic analysis attack that enables local eavesdroppers to infer a user’s browsing destination,even when using the Tor anonymity *** advanced attacks based on deep neural network(DNN)can performfeature engineering and attain accuracy rates of over 98%,research has demonstrated thatDNNis vulnerable to adversarial *** a result,many researchers have explored using adversarial samples as a defense mechanism against DNN-based WF attacks and have achieved considerable ***,these methods suffer from high bandwidth overhead or require access to the target model,which is *** paper proposes CMAES-WFD,a black-box WF defense based on adversarial *** process of generating adversarial examples is transformed into a constrained optimization problem solved by utilizing the Covariance Matrix Adaptation Evolution Strategy(CMAES)optimization *** are injected into the local parts of the original traffic to control bandwidth *** to the experiment results,CMAES-WFD was able to significantly decrease the accuracy of Deep Fingerprinting(DF)and VarCnn to below 8.3%and the bandwidth overhead to a maximum of only 14.6%and 20.5%,***,for Automated Website Fingerprinting(AWF)with simple structure,CMAES-WFD reduced the classification accuracy to only 6.7%and the bandwidth overhead to less than 7.4%.Moreover,it was demonstrated that CMAES-WFD was robust against adversarial training to a certain extent.

Vertical Federated Learning(VFL)has many applications in the field of smart healthcare with excellent ***,current VFL systems usually primarily focus on the privacy protection during model training,while the preparation of training data receives little *** real-world applications,like smart healthcare,the process of the training data preparation may involve some participant's intention which could be privacy information for this *** protect the privacy of the model training intention,we describe the idea of Intention-Hiding Vertical Feder-ated Learning(IHVFL)and illustrate a framework to achieve this privacy-preserving ***,we construct two secure screening protocols to enhance the privacy protection in feature ***,we implement the work of sample alignment bases on a novel private set intersection ***,we use the logistic regression algorithm to demonstrate the process of *** show that our model can perform better efficiency(less than 5min)and accuracy(97%)on Breast Cancer medical dataset while maintaining the intention-hiding goal.

BACKGROUND The strategy for preventing colorectal cancer is screening by colonoscopy,which offers a direct way for detection and removal of adenomatous polyps(APs).American College of Gastroenterology guidelines recommend that people aged≥45 years should undergo colonoscopy;however,how to deal with people aged≤45 years is still *** To compare the prevalence of APs and high-grade neoplasia between the left and right colon in patients≤45 *** A retrospective observational study was conducted at a single tertiary III hospital in *** study included patients aged 18-45 years with undergoing initial colonoscopy dissection and pathological diagnosis AP or high-grade neoplasia between February 2014 and January *** number of APs in the entire colon while screening and post-polypectomy surveillance in following 1-3 years were *** A total of 3053 cases were *** prevalence of APs in the left and right colon was 55.0%and 41.6%,respectively(OR 1.7,95%CI 1.6-2.4;P3 polyps(14.1%;OR 0.3,95%CI 0.1-0.6;P<0.05).CONCLUSION This study suggests that flexible sigmoidoscopy would be an optimal approach for initial screening in people aged≤45 years and would be a more cost-effective and safe strategy.

C-Oligosaccharides are rare in nature and possess diverse ***,their chemical synthesis faces many *** this work,enzymatic introduction of C-linked sugar chains to target aglycones was successfully achieved by multi-enzymatic cascade reactions.A C-glycosyltransferase from Aloe barbadensis was employed to introduce the first C-linked glucose and then a cyclomaltodextrin glucanotransferase from Bacillus licheniformis was used to extend the sugar chain.A total of twenty C-oligosaccharides with 2-6 sugars were synthesized from scale-up reactions and exhibited good water solubility and sodium-dependent glucose transporter 2(SGLT2)inhibitory ***,a glucoamylase was used to control the length of the sugar chain and the C-maltosides were efficiently *** findings not only expanded the structural diversity of C-oligosaccharides,but also provided a strategy for the modification of C-glycoside drugs to improve the druggability.

The link between climate and war has long been a topic of great scientific and social *** this study,we investigate the influence of climate on warfare in China’s Hexi Corridor region since 241 *** the superposed epoch analysis of tree-ring data and historical war data,we observe a notable correlation between interannual dry-wet variations and wars instigated by nomadic groups in the Hexi ***,this relationship is dynamic and influenced by the region’s relative *** periods in which the Hexi Corridor was ruled by multiple regimes,wars tended to follow dry climatic conditions,which may be due to the fact that unusual drought during these periods likely heightened competition for resources and ***,during times of regional unity,wars were more likely to occur when climatic conditions were wet because the expansion of rangelands and the accumulation of resources helped fuel the nomads’outward *** findings underscore the complexity of the relationship between war and climate *** gain a more comprehensive understanding of this relationship,continuous,high-resolution historical temperature and humidity datasets with broader and more uniform coverage are needed across multiple *** addition,collecting and examining disaggregated historical war data for regions with distinct characteristics is essential.

Recently,the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology published an article entitled“Pathologically successful conversion hepatectomy for advanced giant hepatocellular carcinoma after multidisciplinary therapy:A case report and review of the literature”,in which the authors shared their successful experience with complete surgical resection after multidisciplinary conversion *** study by Chu et al demonstrates the great challenges that the advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)poses to surgical oncology,reveals the complexity of conversion therapy for unresectable HCC,emphasizes the important role of a multidisciplinary management model in conversion therapy,and enriches our understanding of the dynamics of personalized treatment for different *** present,conversion therapy is a hot research topic in the treatment of unresectable HCC,which has brought new hope to many patients with moderately advanced ***,there are still many urgent problems to be solved in conversion ***,we would like to further discuss the advances and challenges of conversion therapy for unresectable HCC with the authors and the general readers.
