Landscape of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in China： impact of ecology, climate, and behavior

For the past several decades, the infectious disease profile in China has been shifting with rapid developments in social and economic aspects, environment, quality of food, water, housing, and public health infrastructure. Notably, 5 notifiable infectious diseases have been almost eradicated, and the incidence of 18 additional notifiable infectious diseases has been significantly reduced. Unexpectedly, the incidence of over 10 notifiable infectious diseases, including HIV, brucellosis, syphilis, and dengue fever, has been increasing. Nevertheless, frequent infectious disease outbreaks/events have been reported almost every year, and imported infectious diseases have increased since 2015. New pathogens and over 100 new genotypes or serotypes of known pathogens have been identified. Some infectious diseases seem to be exacerbated by various factors, including rapid urbanization, large numbers of migrant workers, changes in climate, ecology, and policies, such as returning farmland to forests. This review summarizes the current experiences and lessons from China in managing emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, especially the effects of ecology, climate, and behavior, which should have merits in helping other countries to control and prevent infectious diseases.

Prognostic value of Controlling Nutritional Status score for postoperative complications and biochemical recurrence in prostate cancer patients undergoing laparoscopic radical prostatectomy

Background:Controlling Nutritional Status(CONUT)score was used for screening the preoperative nutritional *** correlation between the CONUT score and the prognosis of patients with prostate cancer(PCa)has yet to be ***,we analyzed the prognostic value of CONUT scores in patients with PCa who underwent laparoscopic radical *** and methods:Data of 244 patients were retrospectively *** variables and follow-up data were *** patients were categorized into 2 groups according to their preoperative CONUT *** complication and incontinence rates were also *** Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate the median biochemical recurrence-free survival(BCRFS)between the 2 *** and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to identify the potential prognostic factors for ***:Patients were categorized into the low-CONUT group(CONUT score<3,n=207)and high-CONUT group(CONUT score≥3,n=37).The high-CONUT group had a higher overall complication rate(40.5%vs.19.3%,p=0.004),a higher major complication rate(10.8%vs.3.9%,p=0.013),and longer postoperative length of stay(8 days vs.7 days,p=0.017).More fever,urinary infection,abdominal infection,scrotal edema,rash,and hemorrhagic events(all p values<0.05)were observed in the high-CONUT group.A higher rate of urinary incontinence was observed in the high-CONUT group at 1(34.4%vs.13.2%,p=0.030)and 3 months(24.1%vs.8.2%,p=0.023)*** high-CONUT group had shorter medium BCRFS(23.8 months vs.54.6 months,p=0.029),and a CONUT score≥3 was an independent risk factor for a shorter BCRFS(hazards ratio,1.842;p=0.026).Conclusions:The CONUT score is a useful predictive tool for higher postoperative complication rates and shorter BCRFS in patients with PCa who undergo laparoscopic radical prostatectomy.

Effect of ziprasidone on QTc interval in Chinese patients with schizophrenia

Objective： To investigate the effect of ziprasidone on QTc in Chinese patients with schizophrenia. Methods： The study involved 27 patients with schizophrenia. Ziprasidone was initiated with 40 mg/day. From day 3 to day 7, the dose was increased gradually to 120-160 mg/d according to the effectiveness and tolerahility. QTc values were measured at the beginning and month 6. Results： At the beginning of the 6 months treatment, the mean QTc interval of patients was （387.5±19.0） ms. At the end of the study, it was （402.9±23.6） ms. The difference has statistically significance （P〈0.05）. The mean QTc interval changed significantly throughout 6-months period but no one exceed the QTc dangerous limits. Significant correlation was found between QTc interval and the dose. Conclusion： In summary, our results suggest that ziprasidone has good tolerance in patient with schizophrenia despite its dose-related QTc prolongation. Ziprasidone have no pro-arrhythmic profile

Lithium improves memory by decreasing A-beta production and tau phosphorylation in rats chronically exposed to aluminum

Objective: To investigate the effects of lithium on cognitive function and metabolism of Amyloid-beta Protein Precursor (APP) and tau phosphorylation in rats chronically exposed to aluminum. Methods: Twenty-four chronically aluminum-exposed rats were randomly divided into 2 groups: a lithium-treatment group and a non-treatment group (n=12 per group). Lithium chloride was administered to the lithium-treatment group via gastric gavage daily for 6 weeks (200 mg/kg·d LiCl), while the non-treatment group was administered the same volume of sodium chloride by the same means. An additional control group (n=12) received no intervention. Memory function was evaluated by the Morris water maze test. Aβ was measured by immunohistochemical staining, while total APP, phosphorylated-tau protein, CDK5 and PP2A were determined by Western Blotting. Results: (1) Compared to the non-treatment group, the lithium-treatment group had a significantly shorter mean escape latency and a lower proportion of random navigation pattern in the spatial probe test (P<0.05). After the platform was taken away, the rats in the lithium-treatment group crossed the platform quadrant significantly more and stayed longer in the platform quadrant than those in the non-treatment group (P<0.05). (2) The number of Aβ positive neurons in the hippocampus and cortex was significantly less in the lithium-treatment group than in the non-treatment group (P<0.05), but the content of APP was not different between groups (P=0.730). (3) Phosphorylation of tau protein decreased significantly in the lithium-treatment group than that in the non-treatment group (P<0.05). The content of CDK5 in the lithium-treatment group was significantly less than that in the non-treatment group in the cortex and hippocampus, while there was no difference in the content of PP2A between the 2 groups. The expression of CDK5 was significantly correlated with phosphorylated tau (r=0.871, P=0.024) in the lithium-treatment group. Conclusion: Lith

Silicon monoxide(SiO)is widely recognized as a promising anode material for next-generation lithium-ion *** to its metastable amorphous structure,SiO exhibits a highly complex degree of crystallization at the microscopic level,which significantly influences its electrochemical *** a consequence,accurately regulating the crystallization of SiO,and further establishing the relationship between crystallinity and electrochemical performance are very critical for SiO *** this article,carbon-coated SiO materials with different crystallinity degrees were synthesized using lithium hydroxide monohydrate(LiOH·H_(2)O)as a structural modifier to reveal this ***,moderate amount of LiOH·H_(2)O addition results in the forming of an oxygen-rich shell,which effectively inhibits the inward migration of oxygen atoms on the SiO surface and suppresses volume ***,the crystallinity of SiO will gradually enhance and the crystalline phase appears with increasing the amount of LiOH·H_(2)O,which will generate a deteriorative Li+diffusion *** balancing the above two contradictions,a mass fraction of 1%LiOH·H_(2)O for the additive yielded SiO@C-1,characterized by optimal ***@C-1 demonstrates exceptional long-cycle stability with 74.8%capacity retention after 500 cycles at 1 A·g^(-1).Furthermore,it achieves a capacity retention of 52.2%even at a high density of 5 A·g^(-1).This study first reveals the relationship between SiO crystallinity and electrochemical performance,which efficiently guides the design of high-performance SiO anodes.

In order to further promote the standardization of diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumor （GIST） in China, the members of Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology （CSCO） Expert Committee on GIST thoroughly discussed the key contents of the consensus guidelines, and voted on the controversial issue. In final, the Chinese consensus guidelines for the diagnosis and management of GIST （2017 edition） was formed on the basis of 2013 edition consensus guidelines, which is hereby announced. The consensus included the pathological diagnosis, recurrence risk classification evaluation, targeted agent therapy, surgery and principles of surveillance of GIST.

Small extracellular vesicles with nanomorphology memory promote osteogenesis

Nanotopographical cues endow biomaterials the ability to guide cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation. Cellular mechanical memory can maintain the cell status by retaining cellular information obtained from past mechanical microenvironments. Here, we propose a new concept “morphology memory of small extracellular vesicles (sEV)” for bone regeneration. We performed nanotopography on titanium plates through alkali and heat (Ti8) treatment to promote human mesenchymal stem cell (hMSC) differentiation. Next, we extracted the sEVs from the hMSC, which were cultured on the nanotopographical Ti plates for 21 days (Ti8-21-sEV). We demonstrated that Ti8-21-sEV had superior pro-osteogenesis ability in vitro and in vivo. RNA sequencing further confirmed that Ti8-21-sEV promote bone regeneration through osteogenic-related pathways, including the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway, MAPK signaling pathway, focal adhesion, and extracellular matrix-receptor interaction. Finally, we decorated the Ti8-21-sEV on a 3D printed porous polyetheretherketone scaffold. The femoral condyle defect model of rabbits was used to demonstrate that Ti8-21-sEV had the best bone ingrowth. In summary, our study demonstrated that the Ti8-21-sEV have memory function by copying the pro-osteogenesis information from the nanotopography. We expect that our study will encourage the discovery of other sEV with morphology memory for tissue regeneration.

为了考察Mo部分替代Ti对高容量V40Ti50Fe10合金储氢性能的影响,采用电弧熔炼制备了V40Ti50-xMoxFe10(x=0~30)合金,系统地研究了该系列合金的结构和储氢性能随Mo替代Ti含量的变化规律,并探讨合金储氢容量的衰退机制。研究表明:该系列合金均由主相体心立方(BCC)固溶体和少量的C14型Laves第2相组成;Mo取代Ti并未改变合金的主相结构,但Laves第2相的含量明显降低,合金整体均匀性增加;随着Mo含量的增加,BCC相的晶胞体积逐渐减小,合金的放氢量总体呈现下降趋势但中间出现波动状态,而放氢平台压则持续上升;在这一系列合金中,V40Ti40Mo10Fe10合金的储氢性能较优,具有相对宽泛且平坦的放氢压力平台,可逆储氢量较高,且室温下吸放氢过程均可在5 min内完成。循环测试表明,合金氢化物在吸放氢过程中会形成难以活化的TiFe相,导致合金出现成分分离,影响合金的稳定性,从而造成储氢容量衰退。

This paper investigates the automated recognition of smoky vehicles in surveillance videos. Most current methods recognize the smoky vehicle based on additional sensors. It is a challenging task to recognize smoky vehicle from images due to complex background and the movement of the vehicles. In this paper, we develop a spatial pyramid pooling convolutional neural network（SPPCNN） for smoky vehicle detection according to the image processing algorithm. Resizing the image will lead to shape changes of the smoke plume, and reducing the recognition rate. The spatial pyramid pooling layer is used to overcome this problem. The input of CNN is raw pictures of the tail of the vehicles which captured with method of foreground-background segmentation. This model extracts features from both the vehicles and the smoke by performing convolutions, and regarding the vehicle information as a prior. Experimental results show that this method achieved very low false alarm rates below 1% with detection rates above 80% on real video sequences.
