Objective To identify factors affecting the efficacy of steroid-eluting sinus stents implanted after endoscopic sinus surgery(ESS)in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps(CRSwNP).Methods We performed a post-hoc analysis of a randomized self-controlled clinical trial on post-operative implantation of bioabsorbable steroid-eluting stents in patients with *** logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify which of the following factors affect the response to post-operative stent implantation:sex,serum eosinophil levels,history of prior surgery,endoscopic scores,and comorbid conditions(asthma and allergic rhinitis).The primary outcome was the rate of post-operative intervention on day 30,and the secondary outcome was the rate of polypoid tissue formation(grades 2–3)on days 14,30,and *** A total of 151 patients with CRSwNP were included in the post-hoc *** was identified as the only risk factor for a poor response to steroid-eluting sinus stents on post-operative day 30,with an odds ratio of 23.71(95%CI,2.81,200.16;P=0.004)for the need for post-operative intervention and 19(95%CI,2.20,164.16;P=0.003)for moderate-to-severe polypoid tissue *** addition,the asthmatic group showed higher rates of post-operative intervention and polypoid tissue formation than the non-asthmatic group on post-operative day *** eosinophil levels were not identified as a risk factor for poor outcomes after stent *** Comorbid asthma,but not blood eosinophil level,impairs the efficacy of steroid-eluting sinus stents in the short term after ESS in patients with CRSwNP.

Background： Adenoid hypertrophy （AH） is associated with pediatric chronic rhinosinusitis （pCRS）, but its role in the inflammatory process of pCRS is unclear. It is thought that innate immunity gene expression is disrupted in the epithelium of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis （CRS）, including antimicrobial peptides and pattern recognition receptors （PRRs）. The aim of this preliminary study was to detect the expression of innate immunity genes in epithelial cells of hypertrophic adenoids with and without pCRS to better understand their role in pCRS. Methods： Nine pCRS patients and nine simple AH patients undergoing adenoidectomy were recruited for the study. Adenoidal epithelium was isolated, and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction （RT-qPCR） was employed to measure relative expression levels of the following messenger RNAs in hypertrophic adenoid epithelial cells of pediatric patients with and without CRS： Human β-defensin （HBD） 2 and 3, surfactant protein （SP）-A and D, toll-like receptors 1-10, nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain （NOD）-like receptors NOD 1, NOD 2, and NACHT, LRR and PYD domains-containing protein 3, retinoic acid-induced gene 1, melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5, and nuclear factor-riB （NF-KB）. RT-qPCR data from two groups were analyzed by independent sample t-tests and Mann-Whitney U-tests. Results： The relative expression of SP-D in adenoidal epithelium ofpCRS group was significantly lower than that in AH group （pCRS 0.73 ± 0.10 vs. AH 1.21 ±0.15; P = 0.0173, t = 2.654）. The relative expression levels of all tested PRRs and NF-κB, as well as HBD-2, HBD-3, and SP-A, showed no statistically significant differences in isolated adenoidal epithelium between pCRS group and AH group. Conclusions： Down-regulated SP-D levels in adenoidal epithelium may contribute to the development of pCRS. PRRs, however, are unlikely to play a significant role in the inflammatory process ofpCRS.

Preoperative and postoperative medical therapies for chronic rhinosinusitis:National surveys among Chinese otolaryngologists

Polymer-to-Monomers Chemically Recyclable Poly(imide-imine)Plastics with Extreme-Condition Resistance and Flame Retardancy

Polyimides are a family of high-tech plastics that have irreplaceable applications in the fields of aerospace, defense, and opto-electronics, but polyimides are difficult to be reprocessed and recycled at the end of their service life, resulting in a significant waste of resources. Hence, it is of great significance to develop recyclable polyimides with comparable properties to the commercial products. Herein, we report a novel polymer-to-monomers chemically recyclable poly(imide-imine)(PtM-CR-PII) plastic, synthesized by cross-linking the amine-terminated aromatic bisimide monomer and the hexa-vanillin terminated cyclophosphazene monomer via dynamic imine bonds. The PtM-CR-PII plastic exhibits comparable mechanical and thermal properties as well as chemical stability to the commercial polyimides. The PtM-CR-PII plastic possesses a high Young’s modulus of≈3.2 GPa and a tensile strength as high as≈108 MPa, which also exhibits high thermal stability with a glass transition temperature of≈220°C. Moreover, the PtM-CR-PII plastic exhibits outstanding waterproofness, acid/alkali-resistance, and solvent-resistance, its appearance and mechanical properties can be well maintained after long-term soaking in water, highly concentrated acid and base, and various organic solvents. Furthermore, the cyclophosphazene moieties endow the PtM-CR-PII plastic with excellent flame retardancy. The PtM-CR-PII plastic exhibits the highest UL-94 flame-retarding rating of V-0 and a limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of 45.5%. Importantly, the PtM-CR-PII plastic can be depolymerized in an organic solvents-acid mixture medium at room temperature, allowing easy separation and recovery of both monomers in high purity. The recovered pure monomers can be used to regenerate new PtM-CR-PII plastics, enabling sustainable polymer-monomers-polymer circulation.

Oxygen-assisted zinc recovery from electric arc furnace dust using magnesium chloride

Electric arc furnace(EAF)dust is an important secondary resource containing metals,such as zinc(Zn)and iron(Fe).Recover-ing Zn from EAF dust can contribute to resource recycling and reduce environmental ***,the high chemical stability of ZnFe_(2)O_(4)in EAF dust poses challenges to Zn *** address this issue,a facile approach that involves oxygen-assisted chlorination using molten MgCl_(2)is *** work focused on elucidating the role of O2 in the reaction between ZnFe_(2)O_(4)and molten MgCl_(2).The results demonstrate that MgCl_(2)effectively broke down the ZnFe_(2)O_(4)structure,and the high O2 atmosphere considerably promoted the sep-aration of Zn from other components in the form of ZnCl_(2).The presence of O2 facilitated the formation of MgFe_(2)O_(4),which stabilized Fe and prevented its ***,the excessive use of MgCl_(2)resulted in increased evaporation loss,and high temperatures pro-moted the rapid separation of *** on these findings,we successfully extracted ZnCl_(2)-enriched volatiles from practical EAF dust through oxygen-assisted *** optimized conditions,this method achieved exceptional Zn chlorination percentage of over 97%within a short period,while Fe chlorination remained below 1%.The resulting volatiles contained 85wt%of ZnCl_(2),which can be further processed to produce metallic *** findings offer guidance for the selective recovery of valuable metals,particularly from solid wastes such as EAF dust.

Protein phosphorylation regulates a variety of important cellular and physiological processes in ***-depth profiling of plant phosphoproteomes has been more technically challenging than that of animal *** is largely due to the need to improve protein extraction efficiency from plant cells,which have a dense cell wall,and to minimize sample loss resulting from the stringent sample clean-up steps required for the removal of a large amount of biomolecules interfering with phosphopeptide purification and mass spectrometry *** this end,we developed a method with a streamlined workflow for highly efficient purification of phosphopeptides from tissues of various green organisms including Arabidopsis,rice,tomato,and Chlamydomonas reinhardtii,enabling in-depth identification with high quantitative reproducibility of about 11000 phosphosites,the greatest depth achieved so far with single liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry(LC-MS)runs operated in a data-dependent acquisition(DDA)*** mainstay features of the method are the minimal sample loss achieved through elimination of sample clean-up before protease digestion and of desalting before phosphopeptide enrichment and hence the dramatic increases of time-and *** method,named GreenPhos,combined with single-shot LC-MS,enabled in-depth quantitative identification of Arabidopsis phosphoproteins,including differentially phosphorylated spliceosomal proteins,at multiple time points during salt stress and a number of kinase substrate *** is expected to serve as a universal method for purification of plant phosphopeptides,which,if samples are further fractionated and analyzed by multiple LC-MS runs,could enable measurement of plant phosphoproteomes with an unprecedented depth using a given mass spectrometry technology.
