Improved oxygen electrocatalysis at Fe N4 and Co N4 sites via construction of axial coordination

The quest for efficient and durable catalysts using abundant resources has garnered significant interest in the field of bifunctional oxygen *** this contribution,we have designed a FeN4or CoN4embedded graphene-based bilayer as active layer and TMC3or TMN3doped graphene as supporting layer,named as FeN4/TMC3or FeN4/TMN3and CoN4/TMC3or CoN4/TMN3,wherein TM strands for transition *** on density functional theory calculations,our results demonstrate that the interaction formed between dual metal atoms in the bilayer interspace leads to the coordination environment altered from flat four-coordination to spatial five-coordination,further stabilizing the bilayer structure and impairing its affinity toward the O-containing *** to thermodynamic analysis,the bilayers of CoN4/CoN3,FeN4/FeC3,FeN4/CoC3,FeN4/NiC3,FeN4/ZnC3,FeN4/FeN3,FeN4/CrN3and FeN4/ZnN3are attractively promising for bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysis due to the small overpotential differenceΔη between oxygen reduction and oxygen evolution that are less than 1 *** functional theory calculations combined with machine learning analysis directly identify the key role played by the interbinding formed between bilayers,that boosts catalytic activity,which establishes a predictable framework for a fast screen for graphene-based bilayer vertical *** work opens up a new path for designing the efficient electrocatalysts via modification of coordination environment.

Background: With the publication of Sepsis-3 definition, epidemiological data based on Sepsis-3 definition from middle-income countries including China are scarce, which prohibits understanding of the disease burden of this newly defined syndrome in these settings. The purpose of this study was to describe incidence and outcome of Sepsis-3 in Yuetan sub-district of Beijing and to estimate the incidence rate of Sepsis-3 in China. Methods: The medical records of all adult residents hospitalized from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2014 in Yuetan sub-district of Beijing were reviewed. Patients with sepsis-3 and severe sepsis/septic shock were identified. The incidence rates and mortality rate of sepsis-3 and sepsis/septic shock were calculated, incidence rates and in-hospital mortality rates were normalized to the population distribution in the 2010 National Census. Population incidence rate and case fatality rate between sexes were compared with the Z test, as the data conformed to Poisson distribution. Results: Of the 21,191 hospitalized patients, 935 patients were diagnosed with Sepsis-3, and 498 cases met severe sepsis/septic shock criteria. The crude annual incidence rate of Sepsis-3 in Yuetan sub-district was 363 cases per 100,000 population, corresponding to standardized incidence rates of 236 cases per 100,000 population per year, respectively. The overall case fatality rate of Sepsis-3 was 32.0%, the crude population mortality rates of Sepsis-3 was 116 cases per 100,000 population per year, the standardized mortality rate was 67 cases per 100,000 population per year, corresponding to a speculative extrapolation of 700,437 deaths in China. The incidence rate and mortality rate of Sepsis-3 were significantly higher in males, elderly people, and patients with more comorbidities. Effects of bamboo invasion on forest structures and diameter-height allometries

Forest structure is fundamental in determining ecosystem function, yet the impact of bamboo invasion on these structural characteristics remains unclear. We investigated 219 invasion transects at 41 sites across the distribution areas of Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) in China to explore the effects of bamboo invasion on forest structural attributes and diameter-height allometries by comparing paired plots of bamboo, mixed bamboo-tree, and non-bamboo forests along the transects. We found that bamboo invasion decreased the mean and maximum diameter at breast height, maximum height, and total basal area, but increased the mean height, stem density, and scaling exponent for stands. Bamboo also had a higher scaling exponent than tree, particularly in mixed forests, suggesting a greater allocation of biomass to height growth. As invasion intensity increased, bamboo allometry became more plastic and decreased significantly, whereas tree allometry was indirectly promoted by increasing stem density. Additionally, a humid climate may favour the scaling exponents for both bamboo and tree, with only minor contributions from topsoil moisture and nitrogen content. The inherent superiority of diameter-height allometry allows bamboo to outcompete tree and contributes to its invasive success. Our findings provide a theoretical basis for understanding the causes and consequences of bamboo invasion.

Tumor recurrence, the Gordian knot of liver transplantation for malignancies, may be attributed to many parameters. The technique of the “classical” recipient hepatectomy is believed to be one of the potential reasons to cause tumor evasion because of the possible increase of circulating tumor cells, thus leading to an increased recurrent rate. On this background, the no-touch oncological recipient hepatectomy technique has been developed. A comprehensive review of the development and the key surgical steps of the no-touch recipient hepatectomy is presented. This technique might improve clinical outcomes, especially for those recipients who are at a high risk for tumor recurrence. Multicenter prospective studies should be set up to further validate the prognostic role of this technique in patients with liver cancer treated with liver transplantation.
