The variation of microbiological characteristics in surface waters during persistent precipitation

Climate change leads to an increase in both the frequency and intensity of extreme precipitation. Surface runoff generated by extreme precipitation has a significant impact on water. However, the impact of persistent precipitation on surface water quality is easy to neglect, due to its prolonged duration and lower-intensity rainfall. This study established eight sampling points within selected surface waters to observe the variation of microbial characteristics in a typical persistence precipitation event. The primary difference between Furong Lake (FL) and Chengqian Reservoir (CR) was: the concentrations of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) were 21.3 +/- 0.7 and 8.3 +/- 1.5 mg/L in FL and CR, respectively. The concentrations of R2A culturable bacteria and coliforms were 10(4.57) and 10(1.58) colony-forming units (CFU)/mL in FL, and were 10(5.46) and 10(2.64) CFU/mL in CR, respectively. During precipitation, the maximum increase concentrations of R2A, NA culturable bacteria, and coliforms were 10(0.75), 10(1.30), and 10(2.27) CFU/mL in FL, respectively. Furthermore, microbial concentration and rainfall did not increase simultaneously, and a delay phenomenon was observed in the increasing microbial concentrations. Through analyzing the concentration change trends and correlation of various water quality indicators during persistent precipitation, the significant correlation between the DOC concentration and the changes in the dominant species of microbial community structure was found in this study (p < 0.05). For example, as the DOC concentration declined, the abundance of hgcl_clade and CL500-29_marine_group increased. Consequently, although persistent precipitation might not obviously alter the water quality visibly, it could still pose potential microbial risks.

Multiscale spatiotemporal meteorological drought prediction:A deep learning approach

Investigating the elliptic anisotropy of identified particles in p-Pb collisions with a multi-phase transport model

The elliptic azimuthal anisotropy coefficient(v_(2))of the identified particles at midrapidity(|η|<0.8)was investigated in p-Pb collisions at√s_(NN)=5.02 TeV using a multi-phase transport model(AMPT).The calculations of differential v_(2)based on the advanced flow extraction method of light flavor hadrons(pions,kaons,protons,andΛ)in small collision systems were extended to a wider transverse momentum(p_(T))range of up to 8 GeV/c for the first *** string-melting version of the AMPT model provides a good description of the measured p_(T)-differential v_(2)of the mesons but exhibits a slight deviation from the baryon v_(2).In addition,we observed the features of mass ordering at low p_(T)and the approximate number-of-constituentquark(NCQ)scaling at intermediate p_(T).Moreover,we demonstrate that hadronic rescattering does not have a significant impact on v_(2)in p-Pb collisions for different centrality selections,whereas partonic scattering dominates in generating the elliptic anisotropy of the final *** study provides further insight into the origin of collective-like behavior in small collision systems and has referential value for future measurements of azimuthal anisotropy.

During ultradeep oil and gas drilling,fluid loss reducers are highly important for water-based drilling fluids,while preparing high temperature-and salt-resistance fluid loss reducers with excellent rheology and filtration performance remains a ***,a micro-crosslinked amphoteric hydrophobic association copolymer(i.e.,DADC)was synthesized using N,N-dimethyl acrylamide,diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride,2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid,hydrophobic monomer,and pentaerythritol triallyl ether *** to the synergistic effects of hydrogen bonds,electrostatic interaction,hydrophobic association,and micro-crosslinking,the DADC copolymer exhibited outstanding temperature-and *** rheological experiments have shown that the DADC copolymer had excellent shear dilution performance and a certain degree of salt-responsive viscosity-increasing *** DADC copolymer could effectively adsorb on the surface of bentonite particles through electrostatic interaction and hydrogen bonds,which bring more negative charge to the bentonite,thus improving the hydration and dispersion of bentonite particles as well as the colloidal stability of the drilling ***,the drilling fluids constructed based on the DADC copolymer exhibited satisfactory rheological and filtration properties(FLHTHP=12 m L)after aging at high temperatures(up to200℃)and high salinity(saturated salt)***,this work provided new insights into designing and fabricating high-performance drilling fluid treatment agents,demonstrating good potential applications in deep and ultradeep drilling engineering.

Three-stage niobium mineralization at Bayan Obo, China

The Chinese Bayan Obo deposit is a world-class rare earth element(REE) deposit with considerable niobium(Nb) and iron(Fe) resources. A complete genetic understanding on all metals is fundamental for establishing genetic models at Bayan Obo. With extensive research being focused on REE enrichment, the timing and controls of Nb enrichment remain unresolved at Bayan Obo, which is mainly due to the challenges in dating, i.e. multistage thermal events, fine-grained minerals with complex textures and the rare occurrence of uranium-enriched minerals with mature dating methods. Based on robust geological and petrographic frameworks, here we conducted ion probe uranium-lead(U-Pb) dating of ferrocolumbite to unravel the timing, hence the genesis of Nb mineralization. Three types of hydrothermal ferrocolumbites—key Nb-bearing minerals—are identified based on their textures and mineral assemblages. They yield U-Pb ages of 1312 ± 47 Ma(n = 99), 438 ± 7 Ma(n = 93), and 268 ± 5 Ma(n = 19), respectively. In line with deposit geology, we tentatively link the first, second and third stage Nb mineralization to Mesoproterozoic carbonatite magmatism, ubiquitous early Paleozoic hydrothermal activity, and Permian granitic magmatism, respectively. While quantifying the contribution of metal endowment from each stage requires further investigation, our new dates highlight that multi-stage mineralization is critical for Nb enrichment at Bayan Obo, which may also have implications for the enrichment mechanism of Nb in REE deposits in general.
