Defects play vital roles in tailoring structures and properties of materials including the atomically thin two-dimensional(2D)materials,and increasing demands are requested to find effective ways to realize the defect engineering,i.e.,tuning the defects and thus the materials’structure–property in a well-controlled ***,we propose a novel method to tune the structures and configurations of one-dimensional(1D)line defects in monolayer MoS2 via mass transport induced structural *** using atomic-resolved annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy(ADF-STEM),we demonstrate in situ that sulfur vacancy line defect can be healed locally into defect-free MoS_(2)lattice via the desorption of Mo atoms from vacancy lines and adsorption into a moving Mo ***,directional transport of Mo atoms(or Mo cluster)along the sulfur vacancy lines can induce the formation of Mo *** a mass transport induced defect tuning provides more operational routes for the rational defect designing and property tuning in MoS_(2)as well as other related 2D materials.

Golden snub-nosed monkeys(Rhinopithecus roxellana),as typical arboreal group-living Old World monkeys,provide an appropriate animal model to research manual laterality and explore the factors affecting hand preference in non-human primates(NHP).This study investigated hand preference based on63 subjects and four spontaneous manual tasks(including unimanual and bimanual feeding and grooming), and assessed the effects of age, gender and type of task on handedness in R. roxellana.A population-level left-handedness was found not only in the bimanual coordinated tasks(bimanual feeding and grooming), but also in one unimanual reaching task(unimanual feeding). There were no significant differences between the sexes in either direction or strength of hand preference among any task. However, a significant difference between adults and juveniles was found in the unimanual feeding task. This is the first report on handedness in unimanual and bimanual feeding tasks that require bipedal posture in wild R. roxellana. Furthermore,this study demonstrated spontaneous feeding tasks reported previously only in the quadrupedal posture in this species, supporting the importance of factors such as posture and task complexity in the evolution of primate manual lateralization.

Effects of cultivation conditions on the diversity of microbes involved in the conversion of rice straw to fodder

To confirm the optimum cultivation conditions for analyzing lactic acid bacterial communities and to provide the cultivation foundation for lactic acid bacterial communities that were used to convert straw into fodder, fermented rice straw was inoculated into 13 different broths. After 48 h of cultivation, pH values, volatile products, and microbial diversity were analyzed. Except for LAB broth, the pH values of the other broths could decrease to approximately 4.5. GC/MS analysis showed that lactic acid in Tomato MRS broth, MRS broth, LAB broth, and Tomato juice broth was higher than that in the other broths. DNA concentration analysis showed that the counts of microbes in Tomato MRS broth were 2.5 times of those in other broths and that tomato juice favored the reproduction of the microbes. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis （DGGE） analysis showed that the number of lactic acid bacterial species in HYA broth, Tomato juice broth, and Tomato MRS broth were higher than those in the other broths.

Endosymbionts are important components of arthropod biology. The white- fly Bemisia tabaci （Gennadius）（Hemiptera： Aleyrodidae） is a cryptic species complex composed of 〉28 putative species. In addition to the primary endosymbiont Portiera aley- rodidarum, six secondary endosymbionts （S-endosymbionts）, Hamiltonella, Rickettsia, Wolbachia, Cardinium, Arsenophonus and Fritschea, have been identified in B. tabaci thus far. Here, we tested five of the six S-endosymbiont lineages （excluding Fritschea） from 340 whitely individuals representing six putative species from China. Harniltonella was detected only in the two exotic invaders, Middle East-Asia Minor 1 （MEAM 1） and Mediter- ranean （MED）. Rickettsia was absent in Asia II 1 and MED, scarce in Asia II 3 （13%）, but abundant in Asia II 7 （63.2%）, China 1 （84.7%） and MEAM1 （100%）. Wolbachia, Cardinium and Arsenophonus were absent in the invasive MEAM1 and MED but mostly abundant in the native putative species. Furthermore, phylogenetic analyses revealed that some S-endosymbionts have several clades and different B. tabaci putative species can harbor different clades of a given S-endosymbiont, demonstrating further the complexity of S-endosymbionts in B. tabaci. All together, our results demonstrate the variation and diversity of S-endosymbionts in different putative species ofB. tabaci, especially between invasive and native whiteflies.
