Sum Frequency Spectroscopy Studies on Cell Membrane Fusion Induced by Divalent Cations

Cell membrane fusion is a fundamental biological process involved in a number of cellular living functions. Regarding this, divalent cations can induce fusion of the lipid bilayers through binding and bridging of divalent cations to the charged lipids, thus leading to the cell membrane fusion. However, the elaborate mechanism of cell membrane fusion induced by divalent cations is still needed to be ***, surface/interface sensitive sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy(SFG-VS) and dynamic light scattering(DLS) were applied in this research to study the responses of phospholipid monolayer to the exposure of divalent metal ions ***^(2+)and Mg^(2+). According to the particle size distribution results measured by DLS experiments, it was found that Ca^(2+)could induce inter-vesicular fusion while Mg^(2+)could not. An octadecyltrichlorosilane self-assembled monolayer(OTS SAM)-lipid monolayer system was designed to model the cell membrane for the SFG-VS experiment. Ca^(2+)could interact with the lipid POO_(2)^(-)head groups more strongly, resulting in cell membrane fusion more easily, in comparison with Mg^(2+). No specific interaction between the two metal cations and the C=O groups was observed. However, the C=O orientations changed more after Ca^(2+)-PO2-binding than Mg^(2+)mediation on lipid monolayer. Meanwhile, Ca^(2+)could induce dehydration of the lipids(which should be related to the strong Ca^(2+)-PO_(2)^(-)interaction), leading to the reduced hindrance for cell membrane fusion.

Strain rate imaging in assessing the size of acute ischemic myocardium in dogs

Background Since the size of ischemic myocardium is closely related with both global and regional function of the myocardium, it is of great significance to measure the size of ischemic myocardium with non-invasive methods. Methods Eleven mongrel dogs were subjected to occlusion of the left anterior descending coronary artery for acute ischemia. Strain rate imaging had M-mode of strain-rate （CAMM） curve pointed from the basal segment of the anterior wall to the basal segment of the inferior wall to detect the border of ischemia size. The strain rate （SR） defined the cut-off value of ischemic myocardium in a two-chamber apical view, and marked by the anterior and inferior wall on two-dimensional images respectively. Along the endocardium and epicardium, the ischemic size was curved on two-dimensional images by the trackball method and then compared with the pathologically ischemic size. And then longitudinal strain rates were compared in the cut-off value, adjacent non-ischemic and ischemic segments at which the cut-off point was defined by changing the curve M-mode of strain rate after ischemia. Results Linear correlation existed between pathology and strain rate ischemic size （r=0.884, P 〈0.001）. The SR parameters were lower in ischemia and cut-off point than in non-ischemic segments. The peak SRs of systole （SSR）, early diastole （EsR）, late diastole （ASR）, strain during ejection time （εet）, and the maximum length change during the entire heart cycle （Emax） in ischemic segments lowered （P〈0.05）. Time to onset of regional relaxation （TR） was prolonged （P=0.012）. Conclusion SR imaging can accurately assess the size of ischemic myocardium. Chin Med J 2009; 122（2）： 193-198

Metagenomic insights into microorganisms and antibiotic resistance genes of waste antibiotic fermentation residues along production,storage and treatment processes

Antibiotic fermentation residue(AFR)is nutrient-rich solid waste generated from fermentative antibiotic production *** is demonstrated that AFR contains high-concentration of remaining antibiotics,and thus may promote antibiotic resistance development in receiving environment or feeding farmed ***,the dominate microorganisms and antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)in AFRs have not been adequately explored,hampering understanding on the potential antibiotic resistance risk development caused by ***,seven kinds of representative AFRs along their production,storage,and treatment processes were collected,and multiple methods including amplicon sequencing,metagenomic sequencing,and bioinformatic approaches were adopted to explore the biological characteristics of *** expected,antibiotic fermentation producer was found as the predominant species in raw AFRs,which were collected at the outlet of fermentation ***,except for producer species,more environment-derived species persisted in stored AFRs,which were temporarily stored at a semi-open *** genus,classified as Firmicutes phylum and Bacilli class,became predominant bacterial taxa in stored AFRs,which might attribute to its tolerance to high concentration of *** from metagenomic sequencing together with assembly and binning approaches showed that these newly-colonizing species(e.g.,Lactobacillus genus)tended to carry ARGs conferring resistance to the remaining ***,after thermal treatment,remaining antibiotic could be efficiently removed from AFRs,and microorganisms together with DNA could be strongly *** sum,the main risk from the AFRs was the remaining antibiotic,while environment-derived bacteria which tolerate extreme environment,survived in ARFs with high content antibiotics,and may carry ***,hydrothermal or other harmless treatment technologies are recommended to remove antibiotic content and inactivate bacteria befor

Efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture for insomnia:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Fast nuclear-spin gates and electrons−nuclei entanglement of neutral atoms in weak magnetic fields

We present a novel class of Rydberg-mediated nuclear-spin entanglement in divalent atoms with global laser ***,we show a fast nuclear-spin controlled phase gate of an arbitrary phase realizable either with two laser pulses when assisted by Stark shifts,or with three ***,we propose to create an electrons−nuclei-entangled state,which is named a super bell state(SBS)for it mimics a large Bell state incorporating three small Bell ***,we show a protocol to create a three-atom electrons-nuclei entangled state which contains the three-body W and Greenberger−Horne−Zeilinger(GHZ)states *** protocols possess high intrinsic fidelities,do not require single-site Rydberg addressing,and can be executed with large Rydberg Rabi frequencies in a weak,Gauss-scale magnetic *** latter two protocols can enable measurement-based preparation of Bell,hyperentangled,and GHZ states,and,specifically,SBS can enable quantum dense coding where one can share three classical bits of information by sending one particle.

Unstructured Road Extraction in UAV Images based on Lightweight Model
