Effects of personalized oral hygiene management on oral health status of pregnant women

BACKGROUND The Cariostat caries activity test(CAT)was used to evaluate the effectiveness of personalized oral hygiene management combining oral health education and professional mechanical tooth cleaning on the oral health status of pregnant *** To investigate whether personalized oral hygiene management enhances the oral health status of pregnant *** A total of 114 pregnant women who were examined at Dalian Women’s and Children’s Medical Center were divided into four groups:High-risk experimental group(n=29;CAT score≥2;received personalized oral hygiene management training),low-risk experimental group(n=29;CAT score≤1;received oral health education),high-risk control group(n=28;CAT score≥2),and low-risk control group(n=28;CAT score≤1).No hygiene intervention was provided to control *** scores at different times were compared using independent samples t-test and least significant difference *** No significant difference in baseline CAT scores was observed between the experimental and control groups,either in the high-risk or low-risk *** scores were reduced significantly after 3(1.74±0.47 vs 2.50±0.38,Pment intervention but not after oral health education alone(0.43±0.39 vs 0.46±0.33,P>0.05 and 0.45±0.36 vs 0.57±0.32,P>0.05,respectively).Within groups,the decrease in CAT scores was significant(2.43±0.44 vs 1.74±0.47 vs 0.53±0.50,Pmental *** Personalized oral hygiene management is effective in improving the oral health of pregnant women and can improve pregnancy outcomes and the oral health of the general population.

Dear Editor,Two-dimensional(2-D) systems have wide applications in image data processing,gas absorption and fluid dynamics analysis [1]-[3].When there exist abrupt changes in 2-D systems,they are usually modeled by 2-D Markov jump systems(MJSs) or 2-D semi-Markov jump systems(SMJSs).This letter investigates the control of 2-D SMJSs based on a novel mode generation mechanism,which could avoid mode ambiguousness phenomenon caused by the evolution of system mode in two different *** criterion that guarantees the almost surely exponential stability of the system is obtained.A thermal process is studied to demonstrate the availability of the proposed method.

Simultaneously quantifying hundreds of acylcarnitines in multiple biological matrices within ten minutes using ultrahigh-performance liquid-chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry

Acylcarnitines are metabolic intermediates of fatty acids and branched-chain amino acids having vital biofunctions and pathophysiological significances. Here, we developed a high-throughput method for quantifying hundreds of acylcarnitines in one run using ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). This enabled simultaneous quantification of 1136 acylcarnitines (C0–C26) within 10-min with good sensitivity (limit of detection 0.992), accuracy (relative error 0.998) for predicting retention time (tR) of acylcarnitines with no standards and built a database of their multiple reaction monitoring parameters (tR, ion-pairs, and collision energy). Furthermore, we quantified 514 acylcarnitines in human plasma and urine, mouse kidney, liver, heart, lung, and muscle. This provides a rapid method for quantifying acylcarnitines in multiple biological matrices.

Antibiotic wastewater contains a variety of pollutant stressors that can induce and promote antibiotic resistance(AR)when released into the *** these substances are mostly in concentrations lower than those known to induce AR individually,it is possible that antibiotic wastewater discharge might still promote the AR transmission risk via additive or synergistic ***,the comprehensive effect of antibiotic wastewater on AR development has rarely been evaluated,and its treatment efficiency remains ***,samples were collected from different stages of a cephalosporin production wastewater treatment plant,and the potential AR induction effect of their chemical mixtures was explored through the exposure of the antibiotic-sensitive Escherichia coli K12 *** with raw cephalosporin production wastewater significantly promoted mutation rates(3.6×10^(3)-9.3×10^(3)-fold)and minimum inhibition concentrations(6.0-6.7-fold)of *** against ampicillin and *** may be attributed to the inhibition effect and oxidative stress of cephalosporin wastewater on *** AR induction effect of cephalosporin wastewater decreased after the coagulation sedimentation treatment and was completely removed after the full treatment process.A Pearson correlation analysis revealed that the reduction in the AR induction effect had a strong positive correlation with the removal of organics and biological *** indicates that the antibiotic wastewater treatment had a collaborative processing effect of conventional pollutants,toxicity,and the AR induction *** study illustrates the potential AR transmission risk of antibiotic wastewater and highlights the need for its adequate treatment.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus(T1DM) lacks insulin secretion due to autoimmune deficiency of pancreaticβ-*** pancreatic islets and enhancing insulin secretion has been therapeutic *** is the main type of polysaccharide from natural mushroom,which has potential medicinal ***,the antidiabetic property of mannogalactoglucan in T1DM has not been fully *** this study,we obtained the neutral fraction of alkali-soluble Armillaria mellea polysaccharide(AAMP-N) with the structure of mannogalactoglucan from the fruiting body of *** and investigated the potential therapeutic value of AAMP-N in *** demonstrated that AAMP-N lowered blood glucose and improved diabetes symptoms in T1DM ***-N activated unfolded protein response(UPR) signaling pathway to maintain ER protein folding homeostasis and promote insulin secretion in *** that,AAMP-N promoted insulin synthesis via upregulating the expression of transcription factors,increased Ca^(2+) signals to stimulate intracellular insulin secretory vesicle transport via activating calcium/calmodulin-dependent kinase Ⅱ(CamkⅡ) and cAMP/PKA signals,and enhanced insulin secretory vesicle fusion with the plasma membrane via vesicle-associated membrane protein 2(VAMP2).Collectively,these studies demonstrated that the therapeutic potential of AAMP-N on pancreatic islets function,indicating that mannogalactoglucan could be natural nutraceutical used for the treatment of T1DM.

Numerical and analytical studies on the coupling effects of unloading and cutterhead vibration on tunnel face in dry sandy ground

When tunnelling in difficult ground conditions,shield machine would inevitably produce significant ground loss and vibration,which may disturb the ground ahead of the tunnel *** this paper,discrete element models calibrated by model tests were established to investigate the response of tunnel face under the coupling effects of unloading and cutterhead *** results show that the friction angle reduction under cyclic loading and vibration attenuation in the sandy ground are significant and can be estimated by the fitted exponential *** cutterhead vibration,the tunnel face stability is undermined and the limit support pressure(LSP)increases to 1.4 times as that in the static case with the growth of frequency and ***,the loosening zone becomes wider and the arching effect is weakened with the reduction of peak horizontal stress and the increase of vertical stress above the *** on the numerical results,a pseudo-static method was introduced into the limit equilibrium analysis of the wedge-prism model for calculating the LSP under *** an error rate less than 5.2%,the proposed analytical method is well *** analytical calculation reveals that the LSP would increase with the growth of vibration amplitude,vibration frequency and covered depth but decrease with the increase of friction *** study can not only lay a solid foundation for the further investigation of ground loss,ground water and soft-hard heterogeneous ground under cutterhead vibration,but also provide meaningful references for the control of environmental disturbance in practice.

Energy crops play a vital role in meeting future energy and chemical demands while addressing climate ***,the idealization of lowcarbon workflows and careful consideration of cost-benefit equations are crucial for their more sustainable ***,we propose tobacco as a promising energy crop because of its exceptional water solubility,mainly attributed to a high proportion of water-soluble carbohydrates and nitrogen,less lignocellulose,and the presence of *** then designed a strategy that maximizes biomass conversion into bio-based products while minimizing energy and material *** autoclaving tobacco leaves in water,we obtained a nutrient-rich medium capable of supporting the growth of microorganisms and the production of bioproducts without the need for extensive pretreatment,hydrolysis,or additional ***,cultivating tobacco on barren lands can generate sufficient biomass to produce approximately 573 billion gallons of ethanol per *** approach also leads to a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 76%compared to traditional corn stover during biorefinery ***,our study presents a novel and direct strategy that could significantly contribute to the goal of reducing carbon emissions and global sustainable development compared to traditional methods.

Extrusion 3D printing of carbon nanotube-assembled carbon aerogel nanocomposites with high electrical conductivity

Carbon nanotubes(CNTs)with high aspect ratio and excellent electrical conduction offer huge functional improvements for current carbon ***,there remains a major challenge for achieving the on-demand shaping of carbon aerogels with tailored micro-nano structural textures and geometric ***,a facile extrusion 3D printing strategy has been proposed for fabricating CNT-assembled carbon(CNT/C)aerogel nanocomposites through the extrusion printing of pseudoplastic carbomer-based inks,in which the stable dispersion of CNT nanofibers has been achieved relying on the high viscosity of carbomer *** extrusion printing,the chemical solidification through polymerizing RF sols enables 3D-printed aerogel nanocomposites to display high shape fidelity in macroscopic *** from the micro-nano scale assembly of CNT nanofiber networks and carbon nanoparticle networks in composite phases,3D-printed CNT/C aerogels exhibit enhanced mechanical strength(fracture strength,0.79 MPa)and typical porous structure characteristics,including low density(0.220 g cm^(-3)),high surface area(298.4 m^(2)g^(-1)),and concentrated pore diameter distribution(~32.8nm).More importantly,CNT nanofibers provide an efficient electron transport pathway,imparting 3D-printed CNT/C aerogel composites with a high electrical conductivity of 1.49 S cm^(-1).Our work would offer feasible guidelines for the design and fabrication of shape-dominated functional materials by additive manufacturing.
