Geotextile protection of glacier:Observed and simulated impacts on energy and mass balance

The detailed physical processes involved in slowing glacier ablation by material cover remain poorly understood so far.In the present study,using the snow cover model SNOWPACK,the effect of geotextile cover on the energy and mass balance at the tongue of the Urumqi Glacier No.1(Chinese Tien Shan)was simulated between July 12,2022 and August 31,2022.The mass changes and the energy fluxes with and without material cover were compared.The results indicated that the geotextile covering reduced glacier ablation by approximately 68%compared to the ablation in the uncovered regions.The high solar reflectivity of the geotextile reduced the net short-wave radiation energy available for the melt by 45%.Thermal insulation of the geotextile reduced the sensible heat flux by 15%.In addition,the wet geotextile exerted a cooling effect through long-wave radiation and negative latent heat flux.This cooling effect reduced the energy available for ablation by 20%.Consequently,only 37%of the energy was used for melting compared to that used in the uncovered regions(67%).Sensitivity experiments revealed that the geotextile cover used at a thickness range of 0.045-0.090 m reduced the ice loss by approximately 68%-72%,and a further increase in the thickness of the geotextile cover led to little improvements.A higher temperature and greater wind speed increased glacier ablation,although their effects were small.When the precipitation was set to zero,it led to a significantly increased melt.Overall,the geotextile effectively protected the glacier tongue from rapid melting,and the observed results have provided inspiration for developing an effective and sustainable approach to protect the glaciers using geotextile cover.

Diet,serving as a vital source of nutrients,exerts a profound influence on human health and disease progression.Recently,dietary interventions have emerged as promising adjunctive treatment strategies not only for cancer but also for neurodegenerative diseases,autoimmune diseases,cardiovascular diseases,and metabolic disorders.These interventions have demonstrated substantial potential in modulating metabolism,disease trajectory,and therapeutic responses.Metabolic reprogramming is a hallmark of malignant progression,and a deeper understanding of this phenomenon in tumors and its effects on immune regulation is a significant challenge that impedes cancer eradication.Dietary intake,as a key environmental factor,can influence tumor metabolism.Emerging evidence indicates that dietary interventions might affect the nutrient availability in tumors,thereby increasing the efficacy of cancer treatments.However,the intricate interplay between dietary interventions and the pathogenesis of cancer and other diseases is complex.Despite encouraging results,the mechanisms underlying diet-based therapeutic strategies remain largely unexplored,often resulting in underutilization in disease management.In this review,we aim to illuminate the potential effects of various dietary interventions,including calorie restriction,fasting-mimicking diet,ketogenic diet,protein restriction diet,high-salt diet,high-fat diet,and high-fiber diet,on cancer and the aforementioned diseases.We explore the multifaceted impacts of these dietary interventions,encompassing their immunomodulatory effects,other biological impacts,and underlying molecular mechanisms.This review offers valuable insights into the potential application of these dietary interventions as adjunctive therapies in disease management.

Potential role of hippocampal neurogenesis in spinal cord injury induced post-trauma depression

It has been reported both in clinic and rodent models that beyond spinal cord injury directly induced symptoms, such as paralysis, neuropathic pain, bladder/bowel dysfunction, and loss of sexual function, there are a variety of secondary complications, including memory loss, cognitive decline, depression, and Alzheimer's disease. The largescale longitudinal population-based studies indicate that post-trauma depression is highly prevalent in spinal cord injury patients. Yet, few basic studies have been conducted to address the potential molecular mechanisms. One of possible factors underlying the depression is the reduction of adult hippocampal neurogenesis which may come from less physical activity, social isolation, chronic pain, and elevated neuroinflammation after spinal cord injury. However, there is no clear consensus yet. In this review, we will first summarize the alteration of hippocampal neurogenesis post-spinal cord injury. Then, we will discuss possible mechanisms underlie this important spinal cord injury consequence. Finally, we will outline the potential therapeutic options aimed at enhancing hippocampal neurogenesis to ameliorate depression.

Target parameter estimation for OTFS-integrated radar and communications based on sparse reconstruction preprocessing

Orthogonal time-frequency space(OTFS)is a new modulation technique proposed in recent years for high Doppler wireless scenes.To solve the parameter estimation problem of the OTFS-integrated radar and communications system,we propose a parameter estimation method based on sparse reconstruction preprocessing to reduce the computational effort of the traditional weighted subspace fitting(WSF)algorithm.First,an OTFS-integrated echo signal model is constructed.Then,the echo signal is transformed to the time domain to separate the target angle from the range,and the range and angle of the detected target are coarsely estimated by using the sparse reconstruction algorithm.Finally,the WSF algorithm is used to refine the search with the coarse estimate at the center to obtain an accurate estimate.The simulations demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed parameterestimation algorithm.

Microstructure and Mechanical Behavior of Mg-Based Bimetal Plates with High Formability Sleeve by Co-extrusion

In this study,microstructure and mechanical behavior of two types of Mg-based bimetal plates with a high formability sleeve were systematically studied,with a great emphasis on the effect of the interface characteristic and the sleeve fraction on the plasticity of composite plates.The rule of mixtures(ROM)for elongation was also addressed.The results show that when there is no or thin diffusion layer with thickness of about 3μm,Mg-based bimetal plates have a good plasticity with elongation of about 19-24%,and the ROM predicted elongations are very close to the experimental ones.In contrast,with a diffusion layer about 95-155μm thick,Mg-based bimetal plates exhibit a poor plasticity with elongation of about 11-17%,and the experimental elongations largely deviate from the ROM predictions.The plasticity of Mg-based bimetal plates increases with increasing sleeve fraction.This study provides new insights on the plastic deformation of Mg-based bimetal composites with a high formability sleeve.

Shuxuening Injection Inhibits Apoptosis and Reduces Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Rats through PI3K/AKT Pathway

Objective: To investigate the main components and potential mechanism of Shuxuening Injection(SXNI) in the treatment of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury(MIRI) through network pharmacology and in vivo research. Methods: The Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology(TCMSP) and Pharm Mapper databases were used to extract and evaluate the effective components of Ginkgo biloba leaves, the main component of SXNI. The Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man(OMIM) and Gene Cards databases were searched for disease targets and obtain the drug target and disease target intersections. The active ingredient-target network was built using Cytoscape 3.9.1 software. The STRING database, Metascape online platform, and R language were used to obtain the key targets and signaling pathways of the anti-MIRI effects of SXNI. In order to verify the therapeutic effect of different concentrations of SXNI on MIRI in rats, 60 rats were first divided into 5 groups according to random number table method: the sham operation group, the model group, SXNI low-dose(3.68 mg/kg), medium-dose(7.35 mg/kg), and high-dose(14.7 mg/kg) groups, with 12 rats in each group. Then, another 60 rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: the sham operation group, the model group, SXNI group(14.7 mg/kg), SXNI+LY294002 group,and LY294002 group, with 12 rats in each group. The drug was then administered intraperitoneally at body weight for 14 days. The main biological processes were validated using in vivo testing. Evans blue/triphenyltetrazolium chloride(TTC) double staining, hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase d UTP nick end labeling(TUNEL) assay, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA), and Western blot analysis were used to investigate the efficacy and mechanism of SXNI in MIRI rats. Results: Eleven core targets and 30 Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) pathways were selected. Analysis of China's Electricity Price and Electricity Burden of Basic Industries under the Carbon Peak Target before 2030

The Chinese government is deepening reformation of electricity prices during the 14th Five Year Plan period and has set a carbon emission reduction target of reaching carbon peak before 2030.In this context,will the carbon emission target influence electricity pricing and will electricity price influence competitiveness of Chinese main industries are two questions needing to be answered.This paper compares China's electricity price level with the selected major countries in the world,and four typical industries are selected to evaluate their electricity burden respectively.Then,the correlation between residential electricity price and industrial electricity price and the influencing factors is analyzed,from the perspectives of scale,structure and technology.According to the model obtained by regression analysis,the electricity price level and corresponding residential and industrial electricity burden in 2025 and 2030 are forecasted.Index Terms-Electricity burden,industrial electricity price,regression analysis,residential electricity price.

Hydroxysafflor Yellow A Promotes HaCaT Cell Proliferation and Migration by Regulating HBEGF/EGFR and PI3K/AKT Pathways and Circ_0084443

Objective:To investigate the effect and possible mechanism of hydroxysafflor yellow A(HSYA) on human immortalized keratinocyte cell proliferation and migration.Methods:HaCaT cells were treated with HSYA.Cell proliferation was detected by the cell counting kit-8 assay,and cell migration was measured using wound healing assay and Transwell migration assay.The mRNA and protein expression levels of heparin-binding epidermal growth factor(EGF)-like growth factor(HBEGF),EGF receptor(EGFR),phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K),protein kinase B(AKT),mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR),and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α) were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR) and Western blot,respectively.Circ_0084443-overexpressing HaCaT cells and empty plasmid HaCaT cells were constructed using the lentiviral stable transfection and treated with HSYA.The expression of circ_0084443 was detected by qRT-PCR.Results:HSYA(800 μmol/L) significantly promoted HaCaT cell proliferation and migration(P0.05).Conclusion:HSYA played an accelerative role in HaCaT cell proliferation and migration,which may be attributable to activating HBEGF/EGFR and PI3K/AKT signaling pathways,and had a particular inhibitory effect on the keratinocyte negative regulator circ_0084443.

Diagnostic Accuracy of Computerized Bowel Sound Analysis with Non-Invasive Devices for Irritable Bowel Syndrome:A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Objective To assess the diagnostic accuracy of bowel sound analysis for irritable bowel syndrome(IBS)with a systematic review and meta-analysis.Methods We searched MEDLINE,Embase,the Cochrane Library,Web of Science,and IEEE Xplore databases until September 2023.Cross-sectional and case-control studies on diagnostic accuracy of bowel sound analysis for IBS were identified.We estimated the pooled sensitivity,specificity,positive likelihood ratio,negative likeli-hood ratio,and diagnostic odds ratio with a 95% confidence interval(CI),and plotted a summary receiver operat-ing characteristic curve and evaluated the area under the curve.Results Four studies were included.The pooled diagnostic sensitivity,specificity,positive likelihood ratio,nega-tive likelihood ratio,and diagnostic odds ratio were 0.94(95%CI,0.87‒0.97),0.89(95%CI,0.81‒0.94),8.43(95%CI,4.81‒14.78),0.07(95%CI,0.03‒0.15),and 118.86(95%CI,44.18‒319.75),respectively,with an area under the curve of 0.97(95%CI,0.95‒0.98).Conclusions Computerized bowel sound analysis is a promising tool for IBS.However,limited high-quality data make the results'validity and applicability questionable.There is a need for more diagnostic test accuracy studies and better wearable devices for monitoring and analysis of IBS.
