The title compound （C16H15N3O2, Mr= 281.31） has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The Schiff base compound is a derivative of 4-aminoantipyrine. As expected, the molecular structure adopts a trans configuration about the C=N double bond. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2 1/c with a = 11.150（3）, b = 9.906（3）, c = 13.624（4） A, β = 106.360（4）°, V= 1443.9（7） ,A^3, Z = 4, Dc = 1.294 g/cm^3, F（000） = 592,μ（MoKa） = 0.088 mm ^-1, R = 0.0577 and wR = 0.1214. Of the 5766 total reflections, 2540 were unique. In the molecule there exist two different planes of pyrazoline and O（2）-C（10） phenyl ring, which are approximately coplanar （r.m.s. de deviation from the combined mean plane is 0026 A） with the dihedral angle between them of 6.3°.

light-Regulated Stomatal Aperture in Arabidopsis

The stomatal pores of plant leaves, situated in the epidermis and surrounded by a pair of guard cells, allow CO2 uptake for photosynthesis and water loss through transpiration. Blue light is one of the dominant environmental signals that control stomatal movements in leaves of plants in a natural environment. This blue light response is mediated by blue/UV A light-absorbing phototropins （phots） and cryptochromes （crys）. Red/far-red light-absorbing phytochromes （phys） also play a role in the control of stomatal aperture. The signaling components that link the perception of light signals to the stomatal opening response are largely unknown. This review discusses a few newly discovered nuclear genes, their function with respect to the phot-, cry-, and phy-mediated signal transduction cascades, and possible involve- ment of circadian clock.

A new route of fabricating porous polyimide membranes

A novel experimental route to fabricate porous polyimide membranes （PPMs） with ideal air permeability was reported. The polymer solution layer consisting of the corresponding polyamic acid （PAA）, solvent, and dibutyl phthalate （DBP） with a boiling temperature of 340℃ was treated by a simple process. The polymer solution layer was first treated at a lower temperature （about 150℃）, then the received solid membrane was further imidized at a higher temperature （about 270℃）, and finally, DBP was removed from the membrane at a temperature above its boiling temperature. The final asymmetric polyimide membrane with a dense skin layer was obtained. To improve the air permeability of the polyimide membranes, the polymer solution layer was treated between two substrates. And the PPMs with open pores on both sides are fabricated and the air permeability of the films is improved greatly.

Discriminative Histogram Intersection Metric Learning and Its Applications

In this paper, a novel method called discriminative histogram intersection metric learning （DHIML） is proposed for pair matching and classification. Specifically, we introduce a discrimination term for learning a metric from binary infor-mation such as same/not-same or similar/dissimilar, and then combine it with the classification error for the discrimination in classifier construction. Compared with conventional approaches, the proposed method has several advantages. 1） The histogram intersection strategy is adopted into metric learning to deal with the widely used histogram features effectively. 2） By introducing discriminative term and classification error term into metric learning, a more discriminative distance metric and a classifier can be learned together. 3） The objective function is robust to outliers and noises for both features and labels in the training. The performance of the proposed method is tested on four applications： face verification, face-track identification, face-track clustering, and image classification. Evaluations on the challenging restricted protocol of Labeled Faces in the Wild （LFW） benchmark, a dataset with more than 7000 face-tracks, and Caltech-101 dataset validate the robustness and discriminability of the proposed metric learning, compared with the recent state-of-the-art approaches.

Ruthenium-106 plaque brachytherapy for the treatment of diffuse choroidal hemangioma in Sturge-Weber syndrome

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of ruthenium-106 plaque brachytherapy for the treatment of diffuse choroidal hemangioma(DCH)in Sturge-Weber syndrome(SWS).METHODS:A total of 8 patients with DCH in SWS managed with plaque brachytherapy were retrospectively *** were treated with ruthenium-106 plaque therapy(median apex dose:83 Gy)at the thickest tumor *** follow-up,we recorded the tumor thickness,the best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA),subretinal fluid(SRF)status,and complications following ***:At a median follow-up of 43 mo,tumor regression was observed in all cases,with a complete resolution of SRF and reduction in *** radiation complications were recorded during the follow up ***:Ruthenium-106 plaque therapy to the thickest portion of the tumor seems to be a useful treatment in patients with DCH in SWS.

Analysis of S-SEED’s characteristics in optical switch

This article introduces the basic structure of a symmetric self-electrooptic effect device （S-SEED）, and applies the Kirchoff＇ s current law and a purely equivalent capacitive model, to analyze S-SEED＇s switch characteristics. linear approximation and N-segment approximation are utilized to obtain S-SEED＇s voltage-time （V-T） and characteristics. Theoretical analysis is verified by simulations, and the results demonstrate that the precision of S-SEED＇s switch time can satisfy the requirement in applications with linear approximation. Moreover, the simulations compare S-SEED＇s switch characteristics with different input powers and input contrast ratios, which reveal that increasing input contrast ratio is an effective way to improve S-SEED＇s switch characteristics.

Triamcinolone as an adjunct to the combination of anti-VEGF for the management of diabetic macular edema

AIM:To assess the efficacy of intravitreal triamcinolone(IVTA)as an adjunct to the combination of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)for the management of diabetic macular edema(DME).METHODS:A total of 51 patients with visual disabilities causing by DME from two sites were retrospectively collected and assigned to two groups according to the therapeutic method:intravitreal conbercept(IVC)combined with focal laser(24 eyes)and IVC combined with focal laser and IVTA(27 eyes).Best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA),the required number of IVCs,central retinal thickness(CRT),the mean costs of treatment burden and safety were compared over 12 ***:From baseline to month 1 through month 12,IVC combined with focal laser and IVTA improved the mean average change in BCVA superior to IVC combined with focal laser(+5.20 vs+2.71 letters).At month 12,20.83%of the IVC combined with focal laser and 37.04%of IVC combined with focal laser and IVTA arms gained more than 10 BCVA *** the period,the mean CRT decreased significantly in the IVC combined with focal laser and IVTA arm(-245.9μm)compared to the IVC combined with focal laser arm(-98.45μm).The average of 6.45 and 1.25 conbercept injections performed in the IVC combined with focal laser and IVC combined with focal laser and IVTA arms,*** mean cost of treatment burden for 12 mo was$6247.44±4069.18 in the IVC combined with focal laser arm and$1679.19±542.73 in the IVC combined with focal laser and IVTA arm,with a statistically significant *** from occasional minor subconjunctival hemorrhage,no other significant ocular adverse events(AEs)were observed in either group during the 12-month ***:It is effective and cost-effective to treat DME by utilizing triamcinolone as an adjunct to the combination of anti-VEGF.

Efficacy and safety of ranibizumab for wet age-related macular degeneration in Chinese patients

AIM： To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of ranibizumab for wet age-related macular degeneration （wAMD） in Chinese patients and to determine the mean number of injections administered over one year of follow-up. METHODS： This single centre, retrospective observational case series study included data from 121 patients with wAMD （121 eyes） who were diagnosed by indirect ophthalmoscopy, fluorescence fundus angiography （FFA）, indocyanine green angiography, and optical coherence tomography. Ranibizumab was injected into the vitreous cavities once per month for 3mo and as needed afterwards. Changes in visual acuity and central foveal thickness （CFT） during the follow-up period were compared, and the mean number of injections over the year was calculated. Patients with one or more adverse events related to the drugs and injections were recorded for further adverse events ***： The study population included 70 males and 51 females aged between 50 and 87y （mean： 71.32±9.41y）. The mean number of injections over the first year was 5±1 （range： 3-9）. The mean best-corrected visual acuity by Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study increased from 43.2±19.3 （95%CI： 39.8-46.7） at baseline to 51.7±20.1 （95%CI： 48.1-55.3）, and central foveal thickness （CFT） decreased from 526.5±277.0 μm （95%CI： 476.6-576.4） to 258.2±161.6 μm （95%CI： 229.2-287.3） at 12mo. The differences were statistically significant （P〈0.001）. Visual acuity significantly improved in 34.1% of the patients （38 eyes）, stabilized in 66.1% of the patients （80 eyes）, and significantly decreased in 2.5% of the patients （3 eyes）. CFT at baseline was an independent risk factor of decreased CFT and increased visual acuity. None of the patients had severe adverse events during the follow-up ***： Ranibizumab can effectively control disease progression and improve visual acuity in patients with wAMD. Electronic properties of graphene nanoribbon doped by boron/nitrogen pair:a first-principles study

By using the first-principles calculations, the electronic properties of graphene nanoribbon （GNR） doped by boron/nitrogen （B/N） bonded pair are investigated. It is found that B/N bonded pair tends to be doped at the edges of GNR and B/N pair doping in GNR is easier to carry out than single B doping and unbonded B/N co-doping in GNR. The electronic structure of GNR doped by B/N pair is very sensitive to doping site besides the ribbon width and chirality. Moreover, B/N pair doping can selectively adjust the energy gap of armchair GNR and can induce the semimetal-semiconductor transmission for zigzag GNR. This fact may lead to a possible method for energy band engineering of GNRs and benefit the design of graphene electronic device.
