We have investigated the feasibilities and accuracies of the identifications of RR Lyrae stars and quasars from the simulated data of the Multi-channel Photometric Survey Telescope(Mephisto)W Survey.Based on the variable sources light curve libraries from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey(SDSS)Stripe 82 data and the observation history simulation from the Mephisto-W Survey Scheduler,we have simulated the uvgriz multi-band light curves of RR Lyrae stars,quasars and other variable sources for the first year observation of Mephisto W Survey.We have applied the ensemble machine learning algorithm Random Forest Classifier(RFC)to identify RR Lyrae stars and quasars,respectively.We build training and test samples and extract~150 features from the simulated light curves and train two RFCs respectively for the RR Lyrae star and quasar classification.We find that,our RFCs are able to select the RR Lyrae stars and quasars with remarkably high precision and completeness,with purity=95.4%and completeness=96.9%for the RR Lyrae RFC and purity=91.4%and completeness=90.2%for the quasar RFC.We have also derived relative importances of the extracted features utilized to classify RR Lyrae stars and quasars.

Studies have snown that serum response factor is beneficaial for axonar regeneration of peripheral herves.However,Its role after central nervous system injury remains unclear. In this study,we established a rat model of T9-T10 spinal cord transection injury.We found that the expression of serum response factor in injured spinal cord gray matter neurons gradually increased with time,reached its peak on the 7^(th) day,and then gradually decreased.To investigate the role of serum response factor,we used lentivirus vecto rs to ove rexpress and silence serum response factor in spinal cord tissue.We found that overexpression of serum response factor promoted motor function recovery in rats with spinal cord injury.Qualitative observation of biotinylated dextran amine anterograde tra cing showed that ove rexpression of serum response factor increased nerve fibers in the injured spinal co rd.Additionally,transmission electron microscopy showed that axon and myelin sheath morphology was restored.Silencing serum response factor had the opposite effects of ove rexpression.These findings suggest that serum response factor plays a role in the recovery of motor function after spinal cord injury.The underlying mechanism may be related to the regulation of axonal regeneration.

Primary progressive aphasia(PPA),which typically refers to a neurodegenerative disease,such as frontotemporal lobar degeneration(FTLD)or Alzheimer disease(AD),is characterized by gradual loss of the brain systems that govern language,with relative sparing of other cognitive domains.[1]Based on specific speech and language features,clinical consensus criteria published in 2011 for the classification of the PPAs divided them into three subtypes:the semantic variant(svPPA),the non-fluent/agrammatic variant(naPPA),and the logopenic variant(lvPPA)[Supplementary Table 1;http://***/CM9/A522].The naPPA or"progressive non-fluent aphasia",as a form of progressive language disorder that is different from the other subtypes,was first described in 1996 by Grossman et al.

To the Editor:Collodion baby is a descriptive term for an extremely rare congenital condition characterized by the presence of parchment-like or cellophane-like membranes encompassing the whole body at birth.[1,2]The membrane usually peels off after several weeks,and the infant displays one of several ichthyosis skin types.Many complications,such as ectropion,eclabium,and restricted joint move-ments,are frequently seen in collodion babies due to the tight skin.

AIM: To investigate the frequency of idiopathic phacodonesis (IP) in senile cataract subjects and the short-term clinical outcomes following cataract surgery. METHODS: This institutional case-control study included 1301 consecutive low-income cataract subjects from June to November 2009. Anterior segment were carefully evaluated with dilated pupil under slit-lamp. IP were screened and graded by a criteria set by the authors. Risk factors, surgical outcomes, and operative complications were analyzed. RESULTS:A total of 42 subjects (3.2%) with IP were diagnosed and classified as grade 1 (36 subjects), grade 2 (5 subjects) and grade 3 (1 subject). Harder lenses and intumescent cataracts were observed in the IP group than the control group (P <0.05). Logistics regression test also indicated the main risk factor was the hardness of the lens. The incidence of zonular dialysis during surgery was 23.8% (10 eyes), which was significantly higher than the controls (0.7%, ( P<0.001). Visual outcomes of the two groups were not statistically or clinically significant. CONCLUSION: Hard nucleus and intumescent cataract are related to IP in senile cataract subjects in Qinghai, China. With more care being taken, grade 1 and some of the grade 2 IP subjects achieved similar surgical outcomes as compared to controls.

BACKGROUND The incidence of breast cancer among women of reproductive age is increasing,as well as the desire for children at late childbearing age.Identifying factors that may be associated with fetal malformation and maternal and fetal prognosis has gained importance.We describe a 32-year-old woman with breast cancer who gave birth to a son with congenital bilateral cryptorchidism after treatment,with a literature review performed.CASE SUMMARY A 32-year-old woman with breast cancer who had been treated by surgery and radiotherapy experienced recurrence and underwent a second surgery,adjuvant chemotherapy,and targeted therapy.Her tumor cells were negative for estrogen receptor(ER)α,progesterone receptor(PR),and p53;positive for ERβ,human epidermal growth factor receptor-2(HER2),epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR),and Ki67.She had pathogenic BRCA gene mutations.She became pregnant within 2 years and delivered a boy with congenital bilateral cryptorchidism.The boy underwent bilateral orchidopexy.As of this writing,the woman and her son are both healthy.CONCLUSION HER2 overexpression,positivity for EGFR,Ki67,and ER,and PR negativity are associated with a poor prognosis in breast cancer.While no link has been established statistically between treatment for breast cancer and cryptorchidism in a subsequent pregnancy,this case suggests the possibility that ERβand gene mutations may be contributing factors.

A Novel Tectonic Keratoplasty with Femtosecond Laser ntrastromal Lenticule for Corneal Ulcer and Perforation

Background： Small incision refractive lenticule extraction （SMILE） is an effective laser procedure that treats myopia. This research was to describe a novel approach to treat corneal ulcer or perforation using the corneal lenticules obtained from SMILE and to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of tectonic keratoplasty with femtosecond laser intrastromal lenticule （TEKIL）. Methods： A total of twenty patients （22 eyes） were monitored for at least 6 months and were assessed using slit lamp microscopy, optical coherence tomography, and best-corrected visual acuity （BCVA）. Postoperative complications throughout the study period were recorded. Results： Corneal ulcer in 14 patients （16 eyes） and corneal perforation in six patients （6 eyes） were treated with TEKIL. The patients were ten females and ten males, with a mean age of 58.5 ± 16.3 years （range： 16 81 years）. In this study, the most causes of corneal ulcer or perforation were immunologic causes （54.5%）. After TEKIL procedure, global integrity was achieved in all cases. No immune rejection or perforation was detected. The mean BCVA improved from 0.17± 0.20 preoperatively to 0.27 ± 0.25 postoperatively at the final follow-up （t = 2.095, P 0.052）. The postoperative BCVA improved in 12 eyes （54.5%） and maintained in nine eyes （40.9%）. Vision function successfully maintained in all eyes （100%）. In three cases, corneal ulcers were treated by reoperation of TEKIL at 3 months alter the initial surgery for the reason that the residual corneal thickness was 〈250 μm. Conclusions： TEKI L seems to be an effective treatment for corneal ulcer and perforation in the condition of emergency and donor shortage.

AIM:To study the effects of combined early fluid resuscitation and hydrogen inhalation on septic shockinduced lung and intestine injuries.METHODS:Wistar male rats were randomly divided into four groups:control group(Group A,n = 15);septic shock group(Group B,n = 15);early fluid resuscitation-treated septic shock group(Group C,n = 15);and early fluid resuscitation and inhalation of 2% hydrogentreated septic shock group(Group D,n = 15).The activity of hydroxyl radicals,myeloperoxidase(MPO),superoxide dismutase(SOD),diamine oxidase(DAO),and the concentration of malonaldehyde(MDA) in the lung and intestinal tissue were assessed according to the corresponding kits.Hematoxylin and eosin staining was carried out to detect the pathology of the lung and intestine.The expression levels of interleukin(IL)-6,IL-8,and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α in lung and intestine tissue were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method.The expression levels of Fas and Bcl2 in lung tissues were determined by immunohistochemistry and Western blotting.RESULTS:Septic shock elicited a significant increase in the levels of MDA(10.17 ± 1.12 nmol/mg protein vs 2.98 ± 0.64 nmol/mg protein) and MPO(6.79 ± 1.02 U/g wet tissue vs 1.69 ± 0.14 U/g wet tissue) in lung tissues.These effects were not significantly decreased by Group C pretreatment,but were significantly reduced by Group D pretreatment(MDA:4.45 ± 1.13 nmol/mg protein vs 9.56 ± 1.37 nmol/mg protein;MPO:2.58 ± 0.21 U/g wet tissue vs 6.02 ± 1.16 U/g wet tissue).The activity of SOD(250.32 ± 8.56 U/mg protein vs 365.78 ± 10.26 U/mg protein) in lung tissues was decreased after septic shock,and was not significantly increased by Group C pretreatment,but was significantly enhanced by Group D pretreatment(331.15 ± 9.64 U/mg protein vs 262.98 ± 5.47 U/mg protein).Histological evidence of lung hemorrhage,neutrophil infiltration and overexpression of IL-6,IL-8,and TNF-α was observed in lung tissues,all of which were attenuated by Group C and further alleviated by Group D pretreatment.Septic s

For a sample of metal-poor stars （-3.3 ≤ [Fe/H] ≤-2.2） that have highresolution spectroscopic abundance determinations, we have measured equivalent widths of the Ca II K, Mg I b and near-infrared Ca II triplet lines using low-resolution spectra from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey （SDSS）, calculated effective temperatures from （g - z）o color, deduced stellar surface gravities by fitting stellar isochrones, and determined metallicities based on the aforementioned quantities. Metallicities thus derived from the Ca II K line are in much better agreement with the results deter- mined from high-resolution spectra than the values given in the SDSS Data Release 7. The metallicities derived from the Mg I b lines have a large dispersion owing to the large measurement errors, whereas those deduced from the Ca II triplet lines are too high due to both non-local thermodynamical equilibrium （NLTE） effects and mea- surement errors. Abundances after correction for the NLTE effect for the Mg I b lines and Ca II triplet lines are also presented. Following this method, we have identified six candidates of ultra-metal-poor stars with [Fe/H] - -4.0 from a sample of 166 metal-poor star candidates. One of them, SDSS J102915＋172927, was recently con- firmed to be an ultra-metal-poor （[Fe/H] 〈 -4.0） star with the lowest metallicity ever measured. Follow-up high-resolution spectroscopy for the other five ultra-metal-poor stars in our sample will therefore be of great interest.
