Influences of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation on the nutritional components,flavor property and lipid-lowering effect of highland barley

Highland barley is a well-known cereal in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau area with high nutritional value,which has been reported to be a health-promoting grain for the obesity and the diabetes.Fermentation by certain microbiota can improve the flavor property and nutritional characteristics.In the present study,Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae were singly or jointly applied to ferment highland barley,and the profile of volatile substances and lipid-lowering effects of the respective extracts were analyzed.Results indicated that either L.plantarum or S.cerevisiae or co-fermentation could consume the polysaccharides of highland barley to provide energy,and dramatically increase the contents of total protein and polyphenol.Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)analysis revealed that the presence of S.cerevisiae was critical for production of the pleasant flavors,especially for the ethyl ester substances including hexadecanoic acid ethyl,hexanoic acid ethyl ester and so on.Meanwhile,we found that fermented highland barley extracts by L.plantarum exhibited stronger lipid-lowering effects in Caenorhabditis elegans than that by S.cerevisiae,while the co-fermentation not only emitted pleasant odors but also exerted high hypolipidemic function.In all,co-fermentation by L.plantarum and S.cerevisiae was proposed to be a promising processing to improve the flavor and functional properties of highland barley.

Tungsten(W),as a plasma-facing material,is subjected to high fluence plasma,resulting in both radiation damage and deuterium(D) retention.This study explores the blistering behavior and D supersaturated layers in both pre-damaged and undamaged W samples.To achieve a uniform damage profile similar to neutron irradiation,carbon(C) ions with multiple energies and angles were employed.The samples were further irradiated with low-energy D ions under two fluences at temperatures from ～380 to 640 K.Using various experimental techniques,we found that pre-damaged W samples can effectively suppress the formation of blistering and lower the threshold temperature at which the surface remains free of blistering.We also observed the prominent D supersaturated peaks within the depth of 20 nm in both pre-damaged and undamaged W.Furthermore,a close correlation between blistering and the D supersaturation was investigated.The results suggest that neutron irradiation in the fusion reactors could increase the critical D concentration for blistering,while a greater depth of damage facilitated the inward diffusion of D,thereby reducing the D concentration gradient and alleviating surface blistering.

富营养化是水生态系统主要的环境问题,自然条件下多种营养盐以组合形式进入水体,明确浮游植物群落对多种营养盐加富的响应对富营养化防治有重要意义。本研究以一座华南热带水库(大沙河水库)为例,分析了2021年枯水期(1-3月)和丰水期前期(4-6月)氮(N)、磷(P)、铁(Fe)和叶绿素a(Chl.a)浓度的变化趋势,并通过原位添加实验,解析浮游植物丰度和多样性对N、P、Fe加富的响应。结果表明:与1-3月相比,4-6月期间水体总磷浓度(TP)明显升高,总铁浓度(TFe)呈增加趋势但月度间波动较大,总氮浓度(TN)在4月最低,之后缓慢增加,期间Chl.a浓度从3月的5μg/L快速增加到5月的29μg/L。原位实验结果表明:浮游植物群落以蓝藻、绿藻和硅藻为主要组成,所有营养盐添加组浮游植物丰度均有增加,但只有NP同时添加时(NP和Fe NP两组)生物量(以Chl.a表征)有显著升高;营养盐添加组细胞丰度的响应在门类和种类间差异明显,实验组组间群落结构和优势种类差异显著,所有处理组的群落多样性均明显高于对照组。N和P添加及其与Fe的联合添加(N、P、NP、Fe N、Fe P和Fe NP)均导致蓝藻丰度升高,绿藻仅在NP添加组(Fe NP组和NP组)显著升高且两组没有显著差异,硅藻仅在N和P单独添加组(N和P)显著升高。上述结果说明浮游植物生物量受N、P营养盐的共同影响而非单因子作用,N、P和Fe添加均影响群落结构和多样性,对水库富营养化的管理尤其是蓝藻水华防治应综合考虑3种营养盐的共同作用。

Celecoxib enhances the response of tumor cells to cisplatin through upregulating PUMA in non–small cell lung cancer carrying wild-type p53

Celecoxib,a cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor,can enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy;however,its effect seems inconsistent.In this study,we investigated whether celecoxib would increase the antiproliferative effects of cisplatin in human lung cancer cells.Our data demonstrated the synergistic effects of celecoxib with cisplatin in wild-type p53 cells and their antagonistic effects inmutated or deleted p53 cells.Combination indices of 0.82 to 0.93 reflected a synergistic effect between celecoxib and cisplatin in lung cancer cells with wild-type p53.Combination indices of 1.63 to 3.00 reflected antagonism between celecoxib and cisplatin in lung cancer cells with mutated or deleted p53.Compared with that in cells with mutated or deleted p53,apoptosis significantly increased with the addition of celecoxib and cisplatin in wild-type p53 cells(Psults in vivo were similar to those in vitro:celecoxib combinedwith cisplatin slowed tumor growth in wild-type p53 groups and not in mutated or deleted p53 groups.In addition,celecoxib promoted p53 translocation into the nucleus and upregulated active p53 expression in wild-type p53 cells.Celecoxib combined with cisplatin upregulated PUMA(PUMA is a downstream gene of p53)after active p53 increased in wild-type p53 cells.In summary,the combination of celecoxib and cisplatin demonstrates clear synergistic effects in wild-type p53 cells and antagonistic effects inmutated or deleted p53 cells.The synergistic effect was achieved by apoptosis,induced by upregulating PUMA.Our results will provide a new treatment strategy for patients carrying wild-type p53,insensitive to cisplatin.

BACKGROUND Primary liver cancer is a malignant tumor with a high recurrence rate that significantly affects patient prognosis.Postoperative adjuvant external radiation therapy(RT)has been shown to effectively prevent recurrence after liver cancer resection.However,there are multiple RT techniques available,and the differ-ential effects of these techniques in preventing postoperative liver cancer re-currence require further investigation.AIM To assess the advantages and disadvantages of various adjuvant external RT methods after liver resection based on overall survival(OS)and disease-free survival(DFS)and to determine the optimal strategy.METHODS This study involved network meta-analyses and followed the PRISMA guidelines.The data of qualified studies published before July 10,2023,were collected from PubMed,Embase,the Web of Science,and the Cochrane Library.We included relevant studies on postoperative external beam RT after liver resection that had OS and DFS as the primary endpoints.The magnitudes of the effects were determined using risk ratios with 95%confidential intervals.The results were analyzed using R software and STATA software.REsuLTS A total of 12 studies,including 1265 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)after liver resection,were included in this study.There was no significant heterogeneity in the direct paired comparisons,and there were no significant differences in the inclusion or exclusion criteria,intervention measures,or outcome indicators,meeting the assumptions of heterogeneity and transitivity.OS analysis revealed that patients who underwent stereotactic body radiotherapy(SBRT)after resection had longer OS than those who underwent intensity modulated radiotherapy(IMRT)or 3-dimensional conformal RT(3D-CRT).DFS analysis revealed that patients who underwent 3D-CRT after resection had the longest DFS.Patients who underwent IMRT after resection had longer OS than those who underwent 3D-CRT and longer DFS than those who underwent SBRT.CONCLUSION HCC patients who undergo liver cancer resec

With the shortage of lithium resources,sodiumion batteries（SIBs） are considered one of the most promising candidates for lithium-ion batteries.P2-type and O3-type layered oxides are one of the few cathodes that can access high energy density.However,they usually exhibit structural change,capacity decay,and slow Na ion kinetic.Herein,we present layered ternary-phase cathodes with P2,P3 and O3 phases by a lattice doping strategy,which is demonstrated by X-ray diffraction（XRD） refinement.Combining the characteristics of P2,P3 and O3 phases,the layered composites show performance improvement during long-term battery cycling.In particular,Na0.7Li0.1Co0.3-Fe0.3Mn0.3O2（NLCFM） delivers a reversible capacity of120.1 mAh·g-1at 0.1C(1.0C=175 mA·g-1) with a superior capacity retention of 72.5% after 1000 cycles at10.0C.This work offers insights into the development of advanced cathode materials for SIBs.

A series of model catalysts were obtained by treating commercial fresh and spent catalysts unloaded from the factory with different methods, including green oil dipping, extraction and high-temperature regeneration;finally, the deactivation behavior of the commercial catalyst for acetylene hydrogenation were studied. The influence of various possible deactivation factors on the catalytic performance was elucidated via detailed structural characterization, surface composition analysis, and activity evaluation.The results showed that green oil, carbon deposit and sintering of active metal were the main reasons for deactivation, among which green oil and carbon deposit led to rapid deactivation, while the activity could be recovered after regeneration by high-temperature calcination. The sintering of active metal components was attributed to the high-temperature regeneration in hydrothermal conditions, which was slow but irreversible and accounted for permanent deactivation. Thus, optimizing the regeneration is expected to extend the service life of the commercial catalyst.

BACKGROUND Enhanced magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)is widely used in the diagnosis,treatment and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),but it can not effectively reflect the heterogeneity within the tumor and evaluate the effect after treatment.Preoperative imaging analysis of voxel changes can effectively reflect the internal heterogeneity of the tumor and evaluate the progression-free survival(PFS).AIM To predict the PFS of patients with HCC before operation by building a model with enhanced MRI images.METHODS Delineate the regions of interest(ROI)in arterial phase,portal venous phase and delayed phase of enhanced MRI.After extracting the combinatorial features of ROI,the features are fused to obtain deep learning radiomics(DLR)_Sig.DeLong's test was used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of different typological features.K-M analysis was applied to assess PFS in different risk groups,and the discriminative ability of the model was evaluated using the Cindex.REsuLTS Tumor diameter and diolame were independent factors influencing the prognosis of PFS.Delong's test revealed multi-phase combined radiomic features had significantly greater area under the curve values than did those of the individual phases(Psurvival analysis revealed a median survival time of high risk group and low risk group was 12.8 and 14.2 months,respectively,and the predicted probabilities of 6 months,1 year and 2 years were 92%,60%,40%and 98%,90%,73%,respectively.The C-index was 0.764,indicating relatively good consistency between the predicted and observed results.DTL and DLR have higher predictive value for 2-year PFS in nomogram.CONCLUSION Based on the multi-temporal characteristics of enhanced MRI and the constructed Nomograph,it provides a new strategy for predicting the PFS of transarterial chemoembolization treatment of HCC.

The chemical activation of various precursors is effective for creating additional closed pores in hard carbons for sodium storage.However,the formation mechanism of closed pores under the influence of pore-forming agents is not well understood.Herein,an effective chemical activation followed by a high-temperature self-healing strategy is employed to generate interconnected closed pores in lignin-derived hard carbon(HCs).By systematic experimental design combined with electron paramagnetic res-onance spectroscopy,it can be found that the content of free radicals in the carbon matrix influences the closure of open pores at high temperatures.Excessively high activation temperature(>700 C)leads to a low free radical concentration,making it difficult to achieve self-healing of open pores at high tempera-tures.By activation at 700°C,a balance between pore making and self-healing is achieved in the final hard carbon.A large number of free radicals triggers rapid growth and aggregation of carbon microcrys-tals,blocking pre-formed open micropores and creating additional interconnected closed pores in as-obtained hard carbons.As a result,the optimized carbon anode(LK-700-1300)delivers a high reversible capacity of 330.8 mA h g^(-1) at 0.03 A g^(-1),which is an increase of 86 mA h g^(-1) compared to the pristine lignin-derived carbon anode(L-700-1300),and exhibits a good rate performance(202.1 mA h g^(-1) at 1 A g^(-1)).This work provides a universal and effective guidance for tuning closed pores of hard carbons from otherprecursors.
