Performance analysis of a photovoltaic/thermal system with lunar regolith-based thermal storage for the lunar base

Powering a moon base,especially keeping it warm during the long lunar night,is a big challenge.This paper introduces a photovoltaic/thermal(PV/T)system incorporating regolith thermal storage to solve the challenge of power and heat provision for the lunar base simultaneously.The vacuum of space around the moon helps this system by reducing heat loss.During the moon's daytime,the system not only generates electricity but also captures heat.This stored heat in the regolith is then used at night,reducing the amount of equipment we need to send from Earth.The spectrally selective PV/T panels are designed to absorb a wide range of sunlight(0.3–2.5μm)while minimizing heat loss in the infrared range(3–30μm).Simulation results of the hybrid solar energy system indicate the average value of the overall efficiency is 45.9%,which relatively elevates 56.1%compared to the PV system.The launch mass of the proposed PV/T system is only 8.4%of a traditional photovoltaic-lithium battery system with the same amount of energy storage.And the total specific energy of the proposed system is 7.3 kWh kg^(-1),while that of the photovoltaic-lithium battery system is about 0.3 kWh kg^(-1).In summary,this study proposes an alternative combined heat and electricity supply system for the lunar base,which can greatly reduce the launch mass and free up load for other scientific research equipment.

Background The age of onset of hypertension(HTN)is decreasing,and obesity is a significant risk factor.The prevalence and racial disparities in pediatric HTN and the association between body composition and blood pressure are insufficiently studied.This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of HTN in Chinese and American children and adolescents and to assess the relationship between various body composition indices and HTN.Methods Seven thousand,five hundred and seventy-three Chinese and 6239 American children and adolescents aged 8–18 years from the 2013–2015 China Child and Adolescent Cardiovascular Health study and the 2011–2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys were analyzed.Blood pressure and body composition(fat and muscle)were measured by trained staff.The crude prevalence and age-standardized prevalence rate(ASPR)of primary HTN and its subtypes[isolated systolic hypertension(ISH)and isolated diastolic hypertension(IDH)]were calculated based on 2017 American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines.Multivariable-adjusted linear regression coefficients and odds ratios(ORs)were calculated to assess the associations of body composition indicators with HTN,ISH and IDH.Results The ASPR of HTN was 18.5%in China(CN)and 4.6%in the United States(US),whereas the obesity prevalence was 7.4%and 18.6%,and the population attributable risk of HTN caused by overweight and obesity was higher in the US than in CN.Increased fat mass,muscle mass and body fat percentage mass were associated with a higher risk of HTN in both countries.The percent of muscle body mass had a protective effect on HTN and ISH in both countries[HTN(CN:OR=0.83,95%CI=0.78–0.88;US:OR=0.72,95%CI=0.64–0.81);ISH(CN:OR=0.87,95%CI=0.80–0.94;US:OR=0.71,95%CI=0.62–0.81)],and the protective effect was more common among children and adolescents with high levels of physical activity.Conclusions The burden of HTN in Chinese children and adolescents was substantial and much greater than that in the US,and the contribution of obesity to HTN was higher in t

●AIM:To investigate the long-term changes of corneal densitometry(CD)and its contributing elements after small incision lenticule extraction(SMILE).●METHODS:Totally 31 eyes of 31 patients with mean spherical equivalent of-6.46±1.50 D and mean age 28.23±7.38y were enrolled.Full-scale examinations were conducted on all patients preoperatively and during followup.Visual acuity,manifest refraction,axial length,corneal thickness,corneal higher-order aberrations,and CD were evaluated.●RESULTS:All surgeries were completed successfully without complications or adverse events.Ten-year safety index was 1.17±0.20 and efficacy 1.04±0.28.CD value of 0–6 mm zones in central layer was statistically significantly lower 10y postoperatively,compared with preoperative values(0–2 mmΔ=-1.62,2–6 mmΔ=-1.24,P<0.01).There were no correlations between CD values and factors evaluated.●CONCLUSION:SMILE is a safe and efficient procedure for myopia on a long-term basis.CD values get lower 10y postoperatively,whose mechanism is to be further discussed.

Background ELF4 deficiency has been recently recognized as a novel disorder within the spectrum of inborn errors of immunity(IEIs),specifically categorized as a“disease of immune dysregulation.”Cases of this condition,reported by our team and others,are very limited worldwide.As such,our current knowledge of this new disease remains preliminary.This review aims to provide a brief overview of the clinical manifestations,pathogenesis,and treatment strategies for this novel IEI.Data sources A comprehensive review was conducted after an extensive literature search in the PubMed/Medline database and websites concerning transcriptional factor ELF4 and reports concerning patients with ELF4 deficiency.Our search strategy was“ELF4 OR ETS-related transcription factor Elf-4 OR EL4-like factor 4 OR myeloid Elf-1-like factor”as of the time of manuscript submission.Results The current signature manifestations of ELF4 deficiency disorder are recurrent and prolonged oral ulcer,abdominal pain,and diarrhea in pediatric males.In some cases,immunodeficiency and autoimmunity can also be prominent.Targeted Sanger sequencing or whole exome sequencing can be used to detect variation in ELF4 gene.Western blotting for ELF4 expression of the patient’s cells can confirm the pathogenic effect of the variant.To fully confirm the pathogenicity of the variant,further functional test is strongly advised.Glucocorticoid and biologics are the mainstream management of ELF4 deficiency disorder.Conclusions Pediatric males presenting with recurring ulcerations in digestive tract epithelium with or without recurrent fever should be suspected of DEX.When atypical presentations are prominent,variations in ELF4 gene should be carefully evaluated functionally due to the complex nature of ELF4 function.Experience of treating DEX includes use of glucocorticoid and biologics and more precise treatment needs more patients to identify and further mechanistic study.

The dynamics of animal social structures are heavily influenced by environmental patterns of competition and cooperation.In folivorous colobine primates,prevailing theories suggest that larger group sizes should be favored in rainforests with a year-round abundance of food,thereby reducing feeding competition.Yet,paradoxically,larger groups are frequently found in high-altitude or high-latitude montane ecosystems characterized by a seasonal scarcity of leaves.This contradiction is posited to arise from cooperative benefits in heterogeneous environments.To investigate this hypothesis,we carried out a six-year field study on two neighboring groups of golden snub-nosed monkey(Rhinopithecus roxellana),a species representing the northernmost distribution of colobine primates.Results showed that the groups adjusted their movement and habitat selection in response to fluctuating climates and spatiotemporal variability of resources,indicative of a dynamic foraging strategy.Notably,during the cold,resource-scarce conditions in winter,the large group occupied food-rich habitats but did not exhibit significantly longer daily travel distances than the smaller neighboring group.Subsequently,we compiled an eco-behavioral dataset of 52 colobine species to explore their evolutionary trajectories.Analysis of this dataset suggested that the increase in group size may have evolved via home range expansion in response to the cold and heterogeneous climates found at higher altitudes or latitudes.Hence,we developed a multi-benefits framework to interpret the formation of larger groups by integrating environmental heterogeneity.In cold and diverse environments,even smaller groups require larger home ranges to meet their dynamic survival needs.The spatiotemporal distribution of high-quality resources within these expanded home ranges facilitates more frequent interactions between groups,thereby encouraging social aggregation into larger groups.This process enhances the benefits of collaborative actions and reproductive opportunities,whi

Tensor data have been widely used in many fields,e.g.,modern biomedical imaging,chemometrics,and economics,but often suffer from some common issues as in high dimensional statistics.How to find their low-dimensional latent structure has been of great interest for statisticians.To this end,we develop two efficient tensor sufficient dimension reduction methods based on the sliced average variance estimation(SAVE)to estimate the corresponding dimension reduction subspaces.The first one,entitled tensor sliced average variance estimation(TSAVE),works well when the response is discrete or takes finite values,but is not■consistent for continuous response;the second one,named bias-correction tensor sliced average variance estimation(CTSAVE),is a de-biased version of the TSAVE method.The asymptotic properties of both methods are derived under mild conditions.Simulations and real data examples are also provided to show the superiority of the efficiency of the developed methods.

Background Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein(MOG)antibody-associated disease(MOGAD)is an autoimmune demy-elinating disorder of the central nervous system.Methods Extracted proteins from 34 cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)samples[patients with MOGAD(MOG group,n=12);healthy controls(HC group,n=12);patients with MOG seronegative and metagenomics next-generation sequencing-negative inflammatory neurological diseases(IND group,n=10)]were processed and subjected to label-free quantitative proteomics.Supervised partial least squares-discriminant analysis(PLS-DA)and orthogonal PLS-DA(O-PLS-DA)models were also performed based on proteomics data.Functional analysis of differentially expressed proteins(DEPs)was performed using Gene Ontology,InterPro,and Kyoto Encyclopedia Genes and Genomes.An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to determine the complement levels in serum from patients with MOGAD.Results Four hundred and twenty-nine DEPs(149 upregulated and 280 downregulated proteins)were identified in the MOG group compared to the HC group according to the P value and fold change(FC).Using the O-PLS-DA model,872 differentially abundant proteins were identified with variable importance projection(VIP)scores>1.Five proteins(gamma-glutamyl hydrolase,cathepsin F,interalpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 5,latent transforming growth factor beta-binding protein 4 and leukocyte-associated immunoglobulin-like receptor 1)overlapping between the top 30 DEPs with top-ranked P value and FC and top 30 proteins in PLS-DA VIP lists were acquired.Functional analysis revealed that the dysregulated proteins in the MOG group were primarily involved in complement and coagulation cascades,cell adhesion,axon guidance,and glycosphingolipid biosynthesis compared to the HC group.Conclusion The proteomic alterations in CSF samples from children with MOGAD identified in the current study might provide opportunities for developing novel biomarker candidates.

Mood disorders are the most common mental disorders, affecting approximately350 million people globally. Recent studies have shown that neuroimmuneinteraction regulates mood disorders. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)and its precursor pro-BDNF, are involved in the neuroimmune crosstalk duringthe development of mood disorders. BDNF is implicated in the pathophysiologyof psychiatric and neurological disorders especially in antidepressant pharmacotherapy.In this review, we describe the functions of BDNF/pro-BDNF signalingin the central nervous system in the context of mood disorders. In addition, wesummarize the developments for BDNF and pro-BDNF functions in mooddisorders. This review aims to provide new insights into the impact ofneuroimmune interaction on mood disorders and reveal a new basis for furtherdevelopment of diagnostic targets and mood disorders.

Spacelike Framed Curves with Lightlike Components and Singularities of Their Evolutes and Focal Surfaces in Minkowski 3-space

In this paper,we define the evolute and focal surface of a spacelike framed curve with lightlike components in Minkowski 3-space.It is a generalization of the previous results of regular spacelike curves,since singularities are allowed in the original spacelike curves studied by spacelike framed curves with lightlike components.Meanwhile,we show a new geometric invariant to characterise singularities of the focal surface.Then,the classification theorem and recognition theorem for the singularities of the focal surface in generic are also given.
