Evaluation of the effects of health education interventions for hypertensive patients based on the health belief model

BACKGROUND Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and stroke,and its prevalence is increasing worldwide.Health education interventions based on the health belief model(HBM)can improve the knowledge,attitudes,and behaviors of patients with hypertension and help them control their blood pressure.AIM To evaluate the effects of health education interventions based on the HBM in patients with hypertension in China.METHODS Between 2021 and 2023,140 patients with hypertension were randomly assigned to either the intervention or control group.The intervention group received health education based on the HBM,including lectures,brochures,videos,and counseling sessions,whereas the control group received routine care.Outcomes were measured at baseline,three months,and six months after the intervention and included blood pressure,medication adherence,self-efficacy,and perceived benefits,barriers,susceptibility,and severity.RESULTS The intervention group had significantly lower systolic blood pressure[mean difference(MD):-8.2 mmHg,P<0.001]and diastolic blood pressure(MD:-5.1 mmHg,P=0.002)compared to the control group at six months.The intervention group also had higher medication adherence(MD:1.8,P<0.001),self-efficacy(MD:12.4,P<0.001),perceived benefits(MD:3.2,P<0.001),lower perceived barriers(MD:-2.6,P=0.001),higher perceived susceptibility(MD:2.8,P=0.002),and higher perceived severity(MD:3.1,P<0.001)than the control group at six months.CONCLUSION Health education interventions based on the HBM effectively improve blood pressure control and health beliefs in patients with hypertension and should be implemented in clinical practice and community settings.

BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer(CRC)has a high incidence and mortality.Recent studies have shown that indole derivatives involved in gut microbiota metabolism can impact the tumorigenesis,progression,and metastasis of CRC.AIM To investigate the effect of indole-3-acetaldehyde(IAAD)on CRC.METHODS The effect of IAAD was evaluated in a syngeneic mouse model of CRC and CRC cell lines(HCT116 and DLD-1).Cell proliferation was assessed by Ki-67 fluorescence staining and cytotoxicity tests.Cell apoptosis was analysed by flow cytometry after staining with Annexin V-fluorescein isothiocyanate and propidium iodide.Invasiveness was investigated using the transwell assay.Western blotting and real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction were performed to evaluate the expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition related genes and aryl hydrocarbon receptor(AhR)downstream genes.The PharmMapper,SEA,and SWISS databases were used to screen for potential target proteins of IAAD,and the core proteins were identified through the String database.RESULTS IAAD reduced tumorigenesis in a syngeneic mouse model.In CRC cell lines HCT116 and DLD1,IAAD exhibited cytotoxicity starting at 24 h of treatment,while it reduced Ki67 expression in the nucleus.The results of flow cytometry showed that IAAD induced apoptosis in HCT116 cells but had no effect on DLD1 cells,which may be related to the activation of AhR.IAAD can also increase the invasiveness and epithelial-mesenchymal transition of HCT116 and DLD1 cells.At low concentrations(<12.5μmol/L),IAAD only exhibited cytotoxic effects without promoting cell invasion.In addition,predictions based on online databases,protein-protein interaction analysis,and molecular docking showed that IAAD can bind to matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP9),angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE),poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase-1(PARP1),matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP2),and myeloperoxidase(MPO).CONCLUSION Indole-3-aldehyde can induce cell apoptosis and inhibit cell proliferation to prevent the occurrence of CRC;howev

Glycogen serves as the principal energy reserve for metabolic processes in aquatic shellfish and substantially contributes to the flavor and quality of oysters.The Jinjiang oyster(Crassostrea ariakensis)is an economically and ecologically important species in China.In the present study,RNA sequencing(RNA-seq)and assay for transposase-accessible chromatin using sequencing(ATAC-seq)were performed to investigate gene expression and chromatin accessibility variations in oysters with different glycogen contents.Analysis identified 9483 differentially expressed genes(DEGs)and 7215 genes with significantly differential chromatin accessibility(DCAGs)were obtained,with an overlap of 2600 genes between them.Notably,a significant proportion of these genes were enriched in pathways related to glycogen metabolism,including“Glycogen metabolic process”and“Starch and sucrose metabolism”.In addition,genome-wide association study(GWAS)identified 526 single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)loci associated with glycogen content.These loci corresponded to 241 genes,63 of which were categorized as both DEGs and DCAGs.This study enriches basic research data and provides insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the regulation of glycogen metabolism in C.ariakensis.

In this paper,we discuss the related properties of some particular derivations in semihoops and give some characterizations of them.Then,we prove that every Heyting algebra is isomorphic to the algebra of all multiplicative derivations and show that every Boolean algebra is isomorphic to the algebra of all implicative derivations.Finally,we show that the sets of multiplicative and implicative derivations on bounded regular idempotent semihoops are in oneto-one correspondence.

Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression in Assessing Dengue Fever Spread Factors in Yunnan Border Regions

Objective This study employs the Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression(GTWR)model to assess the impact of meteorological elements and imported cases on dengue fever outbreaks,emphasizing the spatial-temporal variability of these factors in border regions.Methods We conducted a descriptive analysis of dengue fever’s temporal-spatial distribution in Yunnan border areas.Utilizing annual data from 2013 to 2019,with each county in the Yunnan border serving as a spatial unit,we constructed a GTWR model to investigate the determinants of dengue fever and their spatio-temporal heterogeneity in this region.Results The GTWR model,proving more effective than Ordinary Least Squares(OLS)analysis,identified significant spatial and temporal heterogeneity in factors influencing dengue fever’s spread along the Yunnan border.Notably,the GTWR model revealed a substantial variation in the relationship between indigenous dengue fever incidence,meteorological variables,and imported cases across different counties.Conclusion In the Yunnan border areas,local dengue incidence is affected by temperature,humidity,precipitation,wind speed,and imported cases,with these factors’influence exhibiting notable spatial and temporal variation.

Insufficient TRPM5 Mediates Lipotoxicity-induced Pancreaticβ-cell Dysfunction

Objective:While the reduction of transient receptor potential channel subfamily M member 5(TRPM5)has been reported in islet cells from type 2 diabetic(T2D)mouse models,its role in lipotoxicity-induced pancreaticβ-cell dysfunction remains unclear.This study aims to study its role.Methods:Pancreas slices were prepared from mice subjected to a high-fat-diet(HFD)at different time points,and TRPM5 expression in the pancreaticβcells was examined using immunofluorescence staining.Glucose-stimulated insulin secretion(GSIS)defects caused by lipotoxicity were mimicked by saturated fatty acid palmitate(Palm).Primary mouse islets and mouse insulinoma MIN6 cells were treated with Palm,and the TRPM5 expression was detected using qRT-PCR and Western blotting.Palm-induced GSIS defects were measured following siRNA-based Trpm5 knockdown.The detrimental effects of Palm on primary mouse islets were also assessed after overexpressing Trpm5 via an adenovirus-derived Trpm5(Ad-Trpm5).Results:HFD feeding decreased the mRNA levels and protein expression of TRPM5 in mouse pancreatic islets.Palm reduced TRPM5 protein expression in a time-and dose-dependent manner in MIN6 cells.Palm also inhibited TRPM5 expression in primary mouse islets.Knockdown of Trpm5 inhibited insulin secretion upon high glucose stimulation but had little effect on insulin biosynthesis.Overexpression of Trpm5 reversed Palm-induced GSIS defects and the production of functional maturation molecules unique toβcells.Conclusion:Our findings suggest that lipotoxicity inhibits TRPM5 expression in pancreaticβcells both in vivo and in vitro and,in turn,drivesβ-cell dysfunction.

Study on the Effect of Ginaton on Reducing Cerebral Vasospasm and Early Brain Injury after Hemorrhagic Stroke by Inhibiting Inflammatory Response

Objective:The objective of this study was to investigate the effects and possible mechanisms of action of ginseng on cerebral vasospasm and early brain injury(EBI)following hemorrhagic stroke.Materials and Methods:Sprague-Dawley(SD)rats(n=48)were randomly divided into sham operation(sham group),subarachnoid hemorrhage(SAH)model(SAH group),normal saline(NS group),and Ginaton(Extract of Ginkgo Biloba Leaves Drops)intervention(gin group)groups.MCP-1 m RNA and tumor necrosis factor levels were detected using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction.The relative expression of m RNA was detected by Western blotting.Results:(1)Compared with the sham group,the SAH,NS,and gin groups had different degrees of neurological dysfunction.Compared with the SAH and NS groups,the neurological deficits in the gin group were significantly improved(P<0.05).(2)Compared with the sham group,the relative expression levels of MCP-1 m RNA in the SAH,NS,and gin groups were 5.1±0.9,3.4±0.6,and 2.5±0.4,respectively;the relative expression levels of m RNA were 13.3±2.4,11.2±1.8,and 3.8±0.6,respectively.(3)The apoptosis rates of brain tissue in the sham,SAH,NS,and gin groups were 4.8±0.7,54.2±10.3,50.1±7.4,and 28.4±4.5,respectively.(4)Western blot showed that the relative expression levels of toll-like receptor-4(TLR-4)protein in the sham,SAH,NS,and gin groups were 0.29±0.03,0.87±0.15,0.65±0.13,and 0.41±0.17,respectively;the relative expression levels of B protein were 0.21±0.04,0.96±0.14,0.73±0.18,and 0.30±0.05,respectively.Gin treatment could inhibit TLR-4 and nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB)protein expression.Conclusions:Dona tablets may inhibit activation of the NF-κB signaling pathway,and SAH-induced inflammatory response,so as to reduce cerebral vasospasm and EBI.

BACKGROUND Radiotherapy stands as a promising therapeutic modality for colorectal cancer(CRC);yet,the formidable challenge posed by radio-resistance significantly undermines its efficacy in achieving CRC remission.AIM To elucidate the role played by microRNA-298(miR-298)in CRC radio-resistance.METHODS To establish a radio-resistant CRC cell line,HT-29 cells underwent exposure to 5 gray ionizing radiation that was followed by a 7-d recovery period.The quantification of miR-298 levels within CRC cells was conducted through quantitative RT-PCR,and protein expression determination was realized through Western blotting.Cell viability was assessed by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay and proliferation by clonogenic assay.Radio-induced apoptosis was discerned through flow cytometry analysis.RESULTS We observed a marked upregulation of miR-298 in radio-resistant CRC cells.MiR-298 emerged as a key determinant of cell survival following radiation exposure,as its overexpression led to a notable reduction in radiation-induced apoptosis.Intriguingly,miR-298 expression exhibited a strong correlation with CRC cell viability.Further investigation unveiled human dual-specificity tyrosine(Y)-regulated kinase 1A(DYRK1A)as miR-298’s direct target.CONCLUSION Taken together,our findings underline the role played by miR-298 in bolstering radio-resistance in CRC cells by means of DYRK1A downregulation,thereby positioning miR-298 as a promising candidate for mitigating radioresistance in CRC.

An Improved Golden Jackal Optimization Algorithm Based on Multi-strategy Mixing for Solving Engineering Optimization Problems

Nowadays,optimization techniques are required in various engineering domains to find optimal solutions for complex problems.As a result,there is a growing tendency among scientists to enhance existing nature-inspired algorithms using various evolutionary strategies and to develop new nature-inspired optimization methods that can properly explore the feature space.The recently designed nature-inspired meta-heuristic,named the Golden Jackal Optimization(GJO),was inspired by the collaborative hunting actions of the golden jackal in nature to solve various challenging problems.However,like other approaches,the GJO has the limitations of poor exploitation ability,the ease of getting stuck in a local optimal region,and an improper balancing of exploration and exploitation.To overcome these limitations,this paper proposes an improved GJO algorithm based on multi-strategy mixing(LGJO).First,using a chaotic mapping strategy to initialize the population instead of using random parameters,this algorithm can generate initial solutions with good diversity in the search space.Second,a dynamic inertia weight based on cosine variation is proposed to make the search process more realistic and effectively balance the algorithm's global and local search capabilities.Finally,a position update strategy based on Gaussian mutation was introduced,fully utilizing the guidance role of the optimal individual to improve population diversity,effectively exploring unknown regions,and avoiding the algorithm falling into local optima.To evaluate the proposed algorithm,23 mathematical benchmark functions,CEC-2019 and CEC2021 tests are employed.The results are compared to high-quality,well-known optimization methods.The results of the proposed method are compared from different points of view,including the quality of the results,convergence behavior,and robustness.The superiority and high-quality performance of the proposed method are demonstrated by comparing the results.Furthermore,to demonstrate its applicability,it is employed to solve four c

Diagnostic Value of GDF10 for the Tumorigenesis and Immune Infiltration in Lung Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Objective:Lung squamous cell carcinoma(LUSC)is associated with a low survival rate.Evidence suggests that bone morphogenetic proteins(BMPs)and their receptors(BMPRs)play crucial roles in tumorigenesis and progression.However,a comprehensive analysis of their role in LUSC is lacking.Our study aimed to explore the relationship between BMPs/BMPRs expression levels and the tumorigenesis and prognosis of LUSC.Methods:The“R/Limma”package was utilized to analyze the differential expression characteristics of BMPs/BMPRs in LUSC,using data from TCGA,GTEx,and GEO databases.Concurrently,the“survminer”packages were employed to investigate their prognostic value and correlation with clinical features in LUSC.The core gene associated with LUSC progression was further explored through weighted gene correlation network analysis(WGCNA).LASSO analysis was conducted to construct a prognostic risk model for LUSC.Clinical specimens were examined by immunohistochemical analysis to confirm the diagnostic value in LUSC.Furthermore,based on the tumor immune estimation resource database and tumor-immune system interaction database,the role of the core gene in the tumor microenvironment of LUSC was explored.Results:GDF10 had a significant correlation only with the pathological T stage of LUSC,and the protein expression level of GDF10 decreased with the tumorigenesis of LUSC.A prognostic risk model was constructed with GDF10 as the core gene and 5 hub genes(HRASLS,HIST1H2BH,FLRT3,CHEK2,and ALPL)for LUSC.GDF10 showed a significant positive correlation with immune cell infiltration and immune checkpoint expression.Conclusion:GDF10 might serve as a diagnostic biomarker reflecting the tumorigenesis of LUSC and regulating the tumor immune microenvironment to guide more effective treatment for LUSC.
