Diagnosing early scar pregnancy in the lower uterine segment after cesarean section by intracavitary ultrasound

BACKGROUND Early scar pregnancy(CSP)in the lower uterine segment after cesarean section is a type of ectopic pregnancy that can cause major complications if left untreated.Transabdominal ultrasound is a common procedure but is influenced by external factors.Thus,intracavitary ultrasound may have better diagnostic efficiency for CSP.AIM To assess the value of intracavitary ultrasound for diagnosing CSP in the lower uterine segment after cesarean section.METHODS Patients diagnosed with CSP in our hospital from October 2019 to April 2021 were recruited.Transabdominal and intracavitary ultrasound examinations were performed to compare the diagnostic differences for CSP and its types.RESULTS Sixty-three patients were diagnosed during the study period.The diagnostic accuracy for CSP was higher in intracavitary ultrasound(96.83%)than in transabdominal ultrasound(84.13%)(P0.05).For the diagnostic rates for the CSP types,the rates for gestational sac(100.00%vs 90.48%),heterogeneous mass(93.75%vs 75.00%),and part of the uterine cavity(80.00%vs 60.00%)were higher in intracavitary ultrasound than in transabdominal ultrasound,but the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).For gestational sac CSP patients,intracavitary ultrasound showed that the gestational sac was located in the lower uterine segment scar with abundant peripheral blood flow;the distance between the gestational sac and the serosal layer was 2.42±0.50 cm.Intracavitary ultrasound for heterogeneous mass CSP patients indicated that the mass mainly occurred in the lower anterior uterine wall,protruding into the bladder,and was surrounded by abundant internal and peripheral blood flow;the distance between the mass and serosal layer was 1.79±0.30 cm.For CSP type partly located in the uterine cavity,the gestational sac was partly located in the lower uterine cavity and partly in the scar with abundant inte

Holding a promise of achieving high power and energy densities,Li-ion hybrid electrochemical capacitors present a crucial future direction for energy storage devices.However,technical challenges remain to appropriately couple both high-power capacitor-type and high-energy battery-type electrode materials within a same device.In addition,the current electrode materials in the device are usually prepared separately,which leads to lengthy preparation,time-consuming and high-cost.In this work,we report a simple method to prepare porous carbon materials(PC) with and without MnO nanoparticle cores,which function as very unique anode/cathode pairs for very high-performance Li ion hybrid supercapacitor.Taking the respective merits of high Li storage capacity from the MnO@C anode and high-rate performance from the PC cathode,the resulted device exhibits a remarkable energy density of 89 Wh·kg^(-1)(at 48 W·kg^(-1)) and can reach a battery-inaccessible power density of 18 kW·kg^(-1)(at 45Wh·kg^(-1)).

Analysis of TLR4 and TLR2 polymorphisms in inflammatory bowel disease in a Guangxi Zhuang population

AIM: To study the polymorphisms of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) gene Asp299Gly, Thr399Ile and TLR2 gene Arg753Gln, Arg677Trp and susceptibility to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in the Zhuang population from Guangxi, China. METHODS: A case-control study was performed from February 2007 to October 2011 which included 146 Zhuang patients with IBD in the experimental group and 164 healthy Zhuang subjects who acted as the control group. All patients and healthy subjects were from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China. Genomic DNA was extracted from intestinal tissue by the phenol chloroform method. TLR4 gene Asp299Gly, Thr399Ile and TLR2 gene Arg753Gln, Arg677Trp were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and then detected by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). RESULTS: The TLR4 gene Asp299Gly was digested using Nco Ⅰ restriction enzyme, and a single band of 249 bp was observed which showed that it was a wild type (AA). The TLR4 gene Thr399Ile was digested using Hinf Ⅰrestriction enzyme and only the wild type (CC) was detected. In addition, the TLR2 gene Arg-677Trp was digested using Aci Ⅰ restriction enzyme and only the wild type (CC) was detected. The TLR2 gene Arg753Gln was digested using Pst Ⅰ restriction enzyme. Only the wild type (GG) as a single band of 254 bp was observed during RFLP. Overall, no heterozygous or homozygous single nucleotide polymorphism mutations were found in patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis both in the TLR4 gene Asp299Gly, Thr399Ile and the TLR2 gene Arg677Trp, Arg753Gln in the Zhuang population from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China. CONCLUSION: The TLR4 gene Asp299Gly, Thr399Ile and TLR2 gene Arg753Gln, Arg677Trp polymorphisms may not be associated with IBD in the Zhuang population from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China.

Ferruginol alleviates inflammation in dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis in mice through inhibiting COX-2, MMP-9 and NF-κB signaling

Objective:To assess the anti-inflammatory efficacy of ferruginol on dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)stimulated ulcerative colitis mice.Methods:Ulcerative colitis was induced in C57 BL/6 J mice by administering 2%of DSS through drinking water for 7 d.The mice in the treatment group were treated with DAA+50 mg/kg/day ferruginol orally.In the positive control group,sulfasalazine(50 mg/kg/day)was used alongside with DSS.After induction,the bodyweight,character of stool and feces occult blood were recorded daily,the disease activity index was calculated,and the colon length,colon weight,and spleen weight were recorded.The myeloperoxidase activity was assayed by spectrophotometry.Interleukin(IL)-6,IL-1β,and tumor necrosis factor-αwere determined by ELISA method,and nuclear factor-κB,cyclooxygenase-2,matrix metalloproteinases-9,and inducible nitric oxide synthase by Western blotting assays.Results:Ferruginol significantly increased the bodyweight,colon weight,colon length,and decreased disease activity index and spleen weight.It exhibited anti-inflammatory activity against DSS induced ulcerative colitis in mice by reducing the activities of myeloperoxidase,tumor necrosis factor-α,nuclear factor-κB,IL-1β,cyclooxygenase-2,matrix metalloproteinases-9,IL-6,and inducible nitric oxide synthase.Conclusions:Ferruginol could be used to treat ulcerative colitis by attenuating the inflammation in colon cells and maintaining colonic mucosal barrier integrity.

Modulatory effect of D-pinitol on bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in rats

Objective:To assess the effect of D-pinitol on pulmonary fibrosis induced by bleomycin.Methods:Sprague-Dawley rats received intratracheal bleomycin(6 IU/kg)to induce pulmonary fibrosis,followed by administration of either D-pinitol(5,10,or 20 mg/kg)or vehicle or methylprednisolone(10 mg/kg)over 28 days after bleomycin administration.Lung function,biochemical parameters,serum biochemistry,mRNA expressions,and histological features were observed.Results:D-pinitol at 10 and 20 mg/kg significantly(P<0.05)attenuated bleomycin-induced bronchoalveolar lavage fluid,decreased myeloperoxidase,nitric oxide,malondialdehyde levels,and increased glutathione and superoxide dismutase level.D-pinitol also improved lung function(enhanced pause,frequency of breathing,expired volume,and tidal volume).Besides,D-pinitol significantly(P<0.05)upregulated Nrf2 and downregulated mRNA expressions of TGF-β,collagen-1,and Smad-3.Furthermore,considerably less inflammation(peribronchial,perivascular,and total),Ashcroft,and interstitial fibrosis scores were observed in the D-pinitol group.Conclusions:D-pinitol exerts its effect against bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis via antioxidative and anti-fibrotic pathways.

Increased activation of the caudate nucleus and parahippocampal gyrus in Parkinson's disease patients with dysphagia after repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation:a case-control study

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation(r TMS)has been shown to effectively improve impaired swallowing in Parkinson's disease(PD)patients with dysphagia.However,little is known about how r TMS affects the corresponding brain regions in this patient group.In this casecontrol study,we examined data from 38 PD patients with dysphagia who received treatment at Beijing Rehabilitation Medicine Academy,Capital Medical University.The patients received high-frequency r TMS of the motor cortex once per day for 10 successive days.Changes in brain activation were compared via functional magnetic resonance imaging in PD patients with dysphagia and healthy controls.The results revealed that before treatment,PD patients with dysphagia showed greater activation in the precentral gyrus,supplementary motor area,and cerebellum compared with healthy controls,and this enhanced activation was weakened after treatment.Furthermore,before treatment,PD patients with dysphagia exhibited decreased activation in the parahippocampal gyrus,caudate nucleus,and left thalamus compared with healthy controls,and this activation increased after treatment.In addition,PD patients with dysphagia reported improved subjective swallowing sensations after r TMS.These findings suggest that swallowing function in PD patients with dysphagia improved after r TMS of the motor cortex.This may have been due to enhanced activation of the caudate nucleus and parahippocampal gyrus.The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of Beijing Rehabilitation Hospital of Capital Medical University(approval No.2018 bkky017)on March 6,2018 and was registered with Chinese Clinical Trial Registry(registration No.Chi CTR 1800017207)on July 18,2018.

Effect and Safety of Penetrating Moxibustion in Treatment of Migraine without Aura:A Randomized Controlled Trial

Objective To observe the clinical effect of penetrating moxibustion on migraine without aura(MO)patients.Methods Totally 60 MO patients from the Acupuncture Clinic of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Chinese Medicine were collected from November 2015 to February 2017.All patients were assigned to a treatment group and a control group using a random number table,30 cases in each group.The treatment group was treated with penetrating moxibustion,and the control group was treated with mild moxibustion,thrice a week for 4 consecutive weeks.The total effective rate,Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)scores,headache intensity,and Migraine Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire(MSQ)scores of patients after treatment were compared between the two groups.The moxibustion sensation and reaction after moxibustion were observed,and the adverse reactions were evaluated.All patients were followed up at 4 and 16 weeks after treatment.Results The total effective rate of the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group(93.33%vs.80.00%,P0.05).Conclusions Penetrating moxibustion can significantly relieve pain and improve quality of life of MO patients.After penetrating moxibustion,flushing and sweating of patients were obvious,and the curative effect was superior to the mild moxibustion.

MicroRNA-365 Knockdown Prevents Ischemic Neuronal Injury by Activating Oxidation Resistance 1-Mediated Antioxidant Signals

Micro RNA-365(mi R-365) is upregulated in the ischemic brain and is involved in oxidative damage in the diabetic rat. However, it is unclear whether mi R-365 regulates oxidative stress(OS)-mediated neuronal damage after ischemia. Here, we used a transient middle cerebral artery occlusion model in rats and the hydrogen peroxide-induced OS model in primary cultured neurons to assess the roles of mi R-365 in neuronal damage. We found that mi R-365 exacerbated ischemic brain injury and OS-induced neuronal damage and was associated with a reduced expression of OXR1(Oxidation Resistance 1). In contrast, mi R-365 antagomir alleviated both the brain injury and OXR1 reduction. Luciferase assays indicated that mi R-365 inhibited OXR1 expression by directly targeting the 30-untranslated region of Oxr1. Furthermore, knockdown of OXR1 abolished the neuroprotective and antioxidant effects of the mi R-365 antagomir. Our results suggest that mi R-365 upregulationincreases oxidative injury by inhibiting OXR1 expression,while its downregulation protects neurons from oxidative death by enhancing OXR1-mediated antioxidant signals.

Best bone of acetabulum for cup component placement in Crowe types Ⅰto Ⅲ dysplastic hips:a computer simulation study

Background:During cup implantation,vertical height of the cup center(V-HCC)should be precisely controlled to achieve sufficient bone-cup coverage(BCC).Our study aimed to investigate the acetabular bone stock and the quantitative relationship between V-HCC and BCC in Crowe types Ⅰto Ⅲ hips.Methods:From November 2013 to March 2016,pelvic models of 51 patients(61 hips)with hip dysplasia were retrospectively reconstructed using a computer software.Acetabular height and doom thickness were measured on the mid-acetabular coronal cross section.V-HCC was defined as the vertical distance of cup rotational center to the interteardrop line(ITL).In the cup implantation simulation,the cup was placed at the initial preset position,with a V-HCC of 15 mm,and moved proximally by 3-mm increments.At each level,the BCC was automatically calculated by computer.Analysis of variance and Kruskal-Wallis test were used to compare the differences between groups.Results:There were no significant between-group differences in maximum thickness of the acetabular doom;however,peak bone stock values were obtained at heights of 41^3±5.14 mm(Crowe typeⅠ),47.58±4.10 mm(Crowe type Ⅱ),and 55.78±3.64 mm(Crowe type Ⅲ)above the ITL.At 15 mm of V-HCC,median BCC was 78%(75-83%)(Crowe type Ⅰ),74%(66-71%)(Crowe type Ⅱ),and 61%(57-68%)(Crowe type Ⅲ).To achieve 80%of the BCC,the median V-HCC was 16.27(15.00-16.93)mm,18.19(15.01-21.53)mm,and 24.13(21.02-28.70)mm for Crowe typesⅠ,Ⅱ,and Ⅲ hips,respectively.Conclusion:During acetabular reconstruction,slightly superior placement with V-HCC<25 mm retained sufficient bone coverage in CroweⅠto Ⅲ hips.
