Glaucoma drainage device implantation and cyclophotocoagulation in the management of refractory glaucoma after Descemet-stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty

AIM:To compare the surgical outcomes of glaucoma drainage device implantation(GDI)and trans-scleral neodymium:YAG cyclophotocoagulation(CPC)in the management of refractory glaucoma after Descemetstripping automated endothelial keratoplasty(DSAEK).METHODS:This retrospective study on observational case series enrolled 29 patients who underwent DSAEK and posterior anti-glaucoma surgery(15 with GDI and 14 with CPC).The main outcome measures were intraocular pressure(IOP),glaucoma surgery success rate(defined as IOP of 6–21 mm Hg without additional anti-glaucoma operation),number of glaucoma medications,endothelial graft status,and best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA).RESULTS:The mean follow-up time was 34.1 and 21.0mo for DSAEK or glaucoma surgeries,both for the GDI and CPC *** groups showed significant IOP reduction after glaucoma *** GDI group presented a significantly higher success rate in IOP control than the CPC group(60%vs 21.4%,P=0.03).Both procedures significantly decreased the number of glaucoma medications(P=0.03).Forty percent and 57%of cases in the GDI and the CPC group,respectively,experienced endothelial graft failure during follow-up(P=0.36).Significantly worse BCVA after surgery was observed in the CPC group but not in the GDI ***:Both GDI and CPC significantly decrease IOP in eyes with glaucoma after *** is preferable to CPC in refractory glaucoma cases after DSAEK,as it manifests a significantly higher success rate for IOP control,similar endothelial graft failure rate,and relatively preserves BCVA than CPC.

Bright InP quantum dots by Ga-doping for red emitters

Environment-friendly indium phosphide(InP)-based quantum dots(QDs)with efficient red-emitting properties are sufficiently needed to satisfy the requirement of burgeoning display and lighting ***,the syntheses of InP QDs using tris(trimethylsilyl)phosphine as the precursor are highly toxic and ***,we successfully introduced gallium(Ga)ions into tris(dimethylamino)phosphine-based red InP cores through thermally-promoted cation exchange,and the obtained Ga-doped InP cores exhibited significantly increased photoluminescence quantum yields(PLQY)of up to 26%.The existence of Ga was directly confirmed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and the functions of Ga were systematically *** subsequent coating of Ga-doped InP cores with ZnSeS and ZnS shells,the resulting Ga-InP/ZnSeS/ZnS QDs achieved a high PLQY of 62%with an emission maximum at 640 *** contrast,without Ga-doping,the PLQY only attained 36%using the same synthetic *** indicated an approximate 1.7-fold increase in *** enhancement of photoluminescence was related to the Ga^(3+),as it not only passivated surface defects of InP cores but also reduced core–shell interface *** Ga-InP/ZnSeS/ZnS QDs exhibited good stability towards heat treatment and ultraviolet(UV)***,the red light-emitting diode(LED)based on Ga-InP/ZnSeS/ZnS QDs performed well in a wide injected current range of 2 to 200 mA,with a maximum power efficiency of 0.68 lm/*** work showcases Ga-doping through cation exchange as a promising strategy for enhancing the efficiency of InP-based red emitters.

RNA interference(RNAi)is a powerful tool that post-transcriptionally silences target genes in eukaryotic ***,silencing efficacy varies greatly among different insect ***,we met with little success when attempting to knock down genes in the mirid bug Apolygus lucorum via dsRNA *** disappearance of double-stranded RNA(dsRNA)could be a potential factor that restricts RNAi ***,we found that dsRNA can be degraded in midgut fluids,and a dsRNase of ***(AldsRNase)was identified and *** alignment indicated that its 6 key amino acid residues and the Mg2+-binding site were similar to those of other insects’*** signal peptide and endonuclease non-specific domain shared high sequence identity with the brown-winged green stinkbug Plautia stali *** showed high salivary gland and midgut expression and was continuously expressed through the whole life cycle,with peaks at the 4th instar ecdysis in the whole *** purified AldsRNase protein obtained by heterologously expressed can rapidly degrade *** comparing the substrate specificity of AldsRNase,3 specific substrates(dsRNA,small interfering RNA,and dsDNA)were all degraded,and the most efficient degradation is ***,immunofluorescence revealed that AldsRNase was expressed in the cytoplasm of midgut *** cloning and functional study of AldsRNase,the enzyme activity and substrate specificity of the recombinant protein,as well as the subcellular localization of nuclease,the reason for the disappearance of dsRNA was explained,which was useful in improving RNAi efficiency in *** and related species.

Water toxicity determination with electrochemically active bacteria(EAB)shows promise for providing early warnings for heavy metal pollution in ***,thus far,only idealized tests with a few types of heavy metals have been *** this study,an automatic water-toxicitydetermination system with high technical maturity was established,and the toxicological properties of common heavy metals were systematically *** results demonstrated that the common heavy metals linearly inhibited EAB currents in the range of 0.1 mg/L to 0.5 mg/*** toxicity ranking of the tested heavy metals was Pb^(2+)>Tl^(3+)>Cu^(2+)>Cd^(2+)>Zn^(2+)>Ni^(2+)>Hg^(2+)>As^(3+).The toxicity interaction mainly exhibited an antagonistic effect in binary heavy metal *** system can accurately determine surface water toxicity and rapidly monitor heavy metal pollution,with good repeatability and a long ***,this study demonstrates that EAB are capable of long-term(>60 d)surface water quality monitoring and on-site early warning of heavy metal pollution.

Optical properties of stacked liquid crystal superstructures with opposite chirality [Invited]

Cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) has been widely used in flat optical elements due to the Pancharatnam–Berry(PB) phase modulation. In order to achieve PB phase modulation for both circular polarizations, it is natural to come up with stacking CLCs with opposite chirality. Here, various optical properties of diverse CLC stacking structures are systematically investigated by numerical calculations. With the thickness of the CLC sublayers becoming smaller, the reflection bandgap splits into three main parts, and the rotatory dispersion gradually becomes negligible. Vector beams provide a more intuitive verification. These results provide theoretical guidance for future studies on stacked chiral anisotropic media.

The reactant concentration at the catalytic interface holds the key to the activity of electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction(HER),mainly referring to the capacity of adsorbing hydrogen and electron *** hydrogen adsorption free energy(ΔGH)as a reactivity descriptor,the volcano curve based on Sabatier principle is established to evaluate the hydrogen evolution activity of ***,the role of electron as reactant received insufficient attention,especially for noble metal-free compound catalysts with poor conductivity,leading to cognitive gap between electronic conductivity and apparent catalytic *** we successfully construct a series of catalyst models with gradient conductivities by regulating molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2))electronic bandgap via a simple solvothermal *** demonstrate that the conductivity of catalysts greatly affects the overall catalytic *** further elucidate the key role of intrinsic conductivity of catalyst towards water electrolysis,mainly concentrating on the electron transport from electrode to catalyst,the electron accumulation process at the catalyst layer,and the charge transfer progress from catalyst to *** and experimental evidence demonstrates that,with the enhancement in electron accessibility at the catalytic interface,the dominant parameter governing overall HER activity gradually converts from electron accessibility to combination of electron accessibility and hydrogen adsorbing *** results provide the insight from various perspective for developing noble metal-free catalysts in electrocatalysis beyond HER.

Unsaturated ketones are typical oxygenated volatile organic compounds(OVOCs)with high reactivity,and are important precursors in air *** sources of OVOCs are complex and include direct emissions and secondary oxidation formation of VOCs in the atmosphere.2-Cyclohexen-1-one is a widespread substance,and is derived from the industrial catalytic oxidation of *** this paper,we investigated the rate constants of the chemical reactions of 2-cyclohexen-1-one with NO_(3) radicals,which is(7.25±0.29)×10^(-15) cm^(3)·molecule^(-1)·s^(-1) at 298 K and under 1 atm(1 atm=101325Pa).It supplemented the kinetics of NO_(3) radicals database,and revealed its effects in the nighttime *** addition,the reaction products of 2-cyclohexen-1-one with NO_(3) radicals were detected by Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry(FT-ICR MS),which revealed a series of nitrate esters in the composition of the secondary organic aerosol(SOA),which may reduce atmospheric ***,the possible pathways for the generation of the products were developed.

●Multiple evanescent white dot syndrome(MEWDS)is a rare fundus disease,characterized by acute vision loss and visual field *** previous studies have explained the possible pathogenesis and clinical features of primary ***,as the number of reported cases increases,secondary MEWDS occurs in other related retinal diseases and injuries,exhibiting some special *** associated retinal diseases include multifocal choroiditis/punctate inner choroidopathy(MFC/PIC),acute zonal occult outer retinopathy,best vitelliform macular dystrophy,pseudoxanthoma elasticum,and ocular *** related retinal injury is laser photocoagulation,surgery,and *** primary MEWDS often have a self-limiting course,secondary MEWDS may require treatment in some cases,according to the severity of concomitant diseases and ***,MEWDS secondary to MFC/PIC that is prone to forming choroidal neovascularization and focal choroidal excavation,needs positive treatment with *** possible underlying pathogenesis of secondary MEWDS is the exposure of choroidal antigen after the disruption of Bruch’s *** MEWDS-related features in secondary MEWDS are still evanescent under most *** prognosis and treatment depend on the severity of *** studies propose that the etiology is associated with immune factors,including viral infection,inflammation in choroid and Bruch’s membrane,and antigen exposure caused by retinal and/or choroidal *** pathogenic studies should be conducted in the *** diagnosis for secondary MEWDS could benefit patients in aspects of management and prognosis.

Controllability of Semilinear Integrodifferential Degenerate Sobolev Equations

In this paper, the approximate controllability of semilinear integrodifferential degenerate Sobolev equations with nonlocal conditions is investigated in the sense of integral solution in Hilbert spaces. Some sufficient and necessary conditions are obtained. Firstly, the existence and uniqueness of integral solutions of semilinear integrodifferential degenerate Sobolev equations with nonlocal conditions are considered by ge-evolution operator theory and Sadovskii's fixed point theorem, the existence and uniqueness theorem of solutions is given. Secondly, the approximate controllability of semilinear integrodifferential degenerate Sobolev equations with nonlocal conditions is studied in the sense of integral solution. The criterion for approximate controllability is provided. The obtained results have important theoretical and practical value for the study of controllability of semilinear integrodifferential degenerate Sobolev equations with nonlocal conditions.
