AIM:To develop a deep learning-based model for automatic retinal vascular segmentation,analyzing and comparing parameters under diverse glucose metabolic status(normal,prediabetes,diabetes)and to assess the potential of artificial intelligence(AI)in image segmentation and retinal vascular parameters for predicting prediabetes and ***:Retinal fundus photos from 200 normal individuals,200 prediabetic patients,and 200 diabetic patients(600 eyes in total)were *** U-Net network served as the foundational architecture for retinal arteryvein *** automatic segmentation and evaluation system for retinal vascular parameters was trained,encompassing 26 ***:Significant differences were found in retinal vascular parameters across normal,prediabetes,and diabetes groups,including artery diameter(P=0.008),fractal dimension(P=0.000),vein curvature(P=0.003),C-zone artery branching vessel count(P=0.049),C-zone vein branching vessel count(P=0.041),artery branching angle(P=0.005),vein branching angle(P=0.001),artery angle asymmetry degree(P=0.003),vessel length density(P=0.000),and vessel area density(P=0.000),totaling 10 ***:The deep learning-based model facilitates retinal vascular parameter identification and quantification,revealing significant *** parameters exhibit potential as biomarkers for prediabetes and diabetes.

The first report of terrestrial Petroxestes from the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation,western Liaoning, China

Abundant aggregated, elongate, shallow borings have been discovered from the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation in western Liaoning, China. By contrast with several similarly-shaped trace fossils, such as Asthenopodichnium, Teredolites,Rogerella, Cubiculum and Petroxestes, their appearance, size, arranged modes, distribution density and substrate types are most similar with traces of Petroxestes that was discovered from Southern Ohio, USA（J. Paleontol. 62： 306-08,1988）. This is the first report of Petroxestes from China, and also the first report of these traces from a terrestrial environment.

Ischemic preconditioning protects against ischemic brain injury

In this study, we hypothesized that an increase in integrin αβand its co-activator vascular endothelial growth factor play important neuroprotective roles in ischemic injury. We performed ischemic preconditioning with bilateral common carotid artery occlusion for 5 minutes in C57BL/6J mice. This was followed by ischemic injury with bilateral common carotid artery occlusion for 30 minutes. The time interval between ischemic preconditioning and lethal ischemia was 48 hours. Histopathological analysis showed that ischemic preconditioning substantially diminished damage to neurons in the hippocampus 7 days after ischemia. Evans Blue dye assay showed that ischemic preconditioning reduced damage to the blood-brain barrier 24 hours after ischemia. This demonstrates the neuroprotective effect of ischemic preconditioning. Western blot assay revealed a significant reduction in protein levels of integrin αβ, vascular endothelial growth factor and its receptor in mice given ischemic preconditioning compared with mice not given ischemic preconditioning 24 hours after ischemia. These findings suggest that the neuroprotective effect of ischemic preconditioning is associated with lower integrin αβand vascular endothelial growth factor levels in the brain following ischemia.

Nonlinear amplitude versus angle inversion for transversely isotropic media with vertical symmetry axis using new weak anisotropy approximation equations

In VTI media,the conventional inversion methods based on the existing approximation formulas are difficult to accurately estimate the anisotropic parameters of reservoirs,even more so for unconventional reservoirs with strong seismic ***,the above problems can be solved by utilizing the exact reflection coefficients ***,their complicated expression increases the difficulty in calculating the Jacobian matrix when applying them to the Bayesian deterministic ***,the new reduced approximation equations starting from the exact equations are derived here by linearizing the slowness *** relatively simple form and satisfactory calculation accuracy make the reduced equations easy to apply for inversion while ensuring the accuracy of the inversion *** addition,the blockiness constraint,which follows the differentiable Laplace distribution,is added to the prior model to improve contrasts between ***,the concept of GLI and an iterative reweighted least-squares algorithm is combined to solve the objective ***,we obtain the iterative solution expression of the elastic parameters and anisotropy parameters and achieve nonlinear AVA inversion based on the reduced *** test results of synthetic data and field data show that the proposed method can accurately obtain the VTI parameters from prestack AVA seismic data.

Stability of the Phase Separation State for Compressible Navier-Stokes/Allen-Cahn System

This paper is concerned with the large time behavior of the Cauchy problem for Navier-Stokes/AllenCahn system describing the interface motion of immiscible two-phase flow in 3-D. The existence and uniqueness of global solutions and the stability of the phase separation state are proved under the small initial perturbations. Moreover, the optimal time decay rates are obtained for higher-order spatial derivatives of density,velocity and phase. Our results imply that if the immiscible two-phase flow is initially located near the phase separation state, then under small perturbation conditions, the solution exists globally and decays algebraically to the complete separation state of the two-phase flow, that is, there will be no interface fracture, vacuum, shock wave, mass concentration at any time, and the interface thickness tends to zero as the time t → +∞.

Anion Adsorption on an Au Colloid Monolayer Based Cysteamine-Modified Gold Electrode

Anion adsorption behavior on Au colloid surface was investigated in virture of depositing monolayers of Au colloid on the self-assembled monolayers of cysteamine on a gold electrode. Po- tential-dependent anion adsorption-desorption waves via the nonfaradaic current were obtained by means of cyclic voltammetry at Au coltoid-modified gold electrodes in the potential range of -2 00-600 mV. The adsorption sequence in the order of adsorption peak potentials (Epa) is OH- >citrate3 ->H2PO4- >Cl->SO42->ClO4->NO3-. Among them, citrate3- exhibited an en- tirely irreversible adsorption. A rise in temperature can increase the rates of adsorption-desorp- tion and improve the reversibility of the adsorption-desorption of Cl-, SO42-, ClO4-, NO3- and H2PO-4. The adsorption peak potentials shifted more negatively for Ca. 63 mV as the anion con- centrations were increased by a decade factor. The change of pH from 7 to 1 slightly affected the adsorption peak potentials of Cl- and NO3-. Au colloids with a smaller size (16 nm) gave rise to a better reversibility of the adsorption-desorption process and lower adsorption currents. The ex- perimental results of citrate ions adsorption on Au colloid surface show that Au colloids with a smaller size prepared by sodium citrate method exhibited a higher stability in the solution in com- parison to those with larger sizes because of its higher ratio of charge/mass. In other words, the smaller gold nanoparticles are covered with citrate ions monolayer that can also be formed at larg- er gold nanoparticles by means of electrochemical scan.

Regulation of haptoglobin expression in a human keratinocyte cell line HaCaT by inflammatory cytokines and dexamethasone

Background Haptoglobin （Hp） is one of the acute-phase proteins. Recent studies have demonstrated that Hp exerts immunoregulatory and anti-inflammatory actions and may be one of the inhibitory factors of immune reactions in the skin. In this study we investigated the regulation of Hp expression in a human keratinocyte cell line HaCaT by various cytokines and glucocorticoid. Methods HaCaT cells were cultured with IL-6 （50 ng/ml）, TNF-α （20 ng/ml）, IFN-γ （20 ng/ml） or IL-4 （20 ng/ml） with or without 1 pmol/L dexamethasone in 6-well plates for 12, 24 and 48 hours. Both the cells and the supernatants were collected to detect the changes of Hp expression by reverse-transcription PCR, ELISA and immunohistochemistry. Results The results showed that Hp expression were elevated at both the mRNA and protein level by the combination of IL-6, TNF-α or IL-4 with dexamethasone, whereas the three cytokines alone did not upregulate the Hp expression. IFN-γ showed no effect on the Hp expression in HaCaT cells. Conclusions These findings suggest that different inflammatory cytokines as well as glucocorticoid may be involved in the regulation of Hp expression in keratinocytes, and this may be one of the negative feedback mechanisms in inflammatory skin diseases.
