The fermentation for succinic acid production outperforms other methods by low energy consumption and environmental benignity,with the resulting products mainly as disodium succinate(DSA).By directly esterifying DSA using CO_(2) and CH3OH,it is expected to avoid the use of inorganic *** high-resolution mass spectrometry analysis and theoretical calculation,this study establishes that the reaction consists of three steps,i.e.,first forming 3-carboxypropanoate,then monomethyl succinate(MMS),and finally dimethyl succinate(DMS).A detailed kinetic analysis is further performed,the results demonstrate that the transformation of DSA to MMS is regarded to be a second-order reaction for reactant DSA,while the transformation of MMS to DMS is a first-order reaction for reactant *** activation energy for the generation of MMS from DSA is 37.15 kJ·mol^(-1),and that for the generation of DMS from MMS is 85.80 kJ·mol^(-1),indicating the latter one is the rate-determining step.

A novel material MnO2 nanosheet has been used as the support matrix for the immobilization of horseradish peroxidase (HRP). HRP entrapped in MnO2 nanosheet film exhibits facile direct electron transfer with the electron transfer rate constant of 6.86 s-1. The HRP/MnO2 nanosheet film gives a re- versible redox couple with the apparent formal peak potential (E0′) of -0.315 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) in pH 6.5 phosphate buffer solution (PBS). The formal potential E0′ of HRP shifts linearly with pH with a slope of -53.75 mV·pH-1, denoting that an electron transfer accompanies single-proton transportation. The immobilized HRP shows an electrocatalytic activity to the reduction of H2O2. The response time of the biosensor for H2O2 is less than 3 s, and the detection limit is 0.21 μmol·L-1 based on signal/noise = 3.

The effects of chloride ion on the electrochemical behavior and the semiconducting properties of the passive film on supermartensitic stainless steel in 0.5 mol/L NaHCO_3 solution were investigated using potentiodynamic polarization, the potentiostatic current transients and Mott-Schottky analysis. The results indicated that chloride ion narrowed passivation region and improved pitting susceptibility. The steady state current densities were independent of film-formed potentials, which was in good agreement with the assumption of the point defect model （PDM）. The capacitance results showed the fact that the passive films had a multilayer character. The defect density decreased with increasing passive film formation potential. The chloride ion induced changes of the acceptor densities and donor densities of the passive films.

Night Sleep Duration and Risk of Cognitive Impairment in a Chinese Population： A Cross-sectional Study

Objective Although sleep is one of the most important health-related behavioral factors, the association between night sleep duration and cognitive impairment has not been fully understood. A cross-sectional study was conducted with a random sample of 2,514 participants （≥ 40 years of age; 46.6% women） in China to examine the association between night sleep duration and cognitive impairment. Methods Night sleep duration was categorized as ≤ 5, 6, 7, 8, or ≥ 9 h per night. Cognitive function was measured using the Mini-Mental State Examination. A multivariate regression analysis was used to analyze the association of night sleep duration with cognitive impairment. A total of 122 participants were diagnosed with cognitive impairment. Results A U-shaped association between night sleep duration and cognitive impairment was found. The odds ratios （95% confidence intervals） of cognitive impairment （with 7 h of daily sleep being considered as the reference） for individuals reporting ≤ 5, 6, 8, and ≥ 9 h were 2.14 （1.20-3.83）, 1.13 （0.67-1.89）, 1.51 （0.82-2.79）, and 5.37 （1.62-17.80）, respectively （P ≤ 0.01）. Conclusion Short or long night sleep duration was an important sleep-related factor independently associated with cognitive impairment and may be a useful marker for increased risk of cognitive impairment.

A passively Q-switched Nd：YVO4 laser at 1064 nm is demonstrated based on a gold nanotriangle saturable absorber（GNT SA）.Under a pump power of 3.82 W,the maximum average output power of 218mW is achieved,corresponding to a slope efficiency of 12.9%.The minimum pulse width is 165ns and the maximum pulse repetition rate is 300kHz at the pump power of 3.48 *** results prove that the GNT SA is a promising saturable absorber for near-infrared lasers.

Background： Catheter-based renal denervation （RDN） is a novel treatment tbr resistant hypertension （RH）. A recent meta-analysis reported that RDN did not significantly reduce blood pressure （BP） based on the pooled effects with mild to severe heterogeneity. The aim of the present study was to identify and reduce clinical sources of heterogeneity and reassess the safety and efficacy of RDN within the identified homogeneous subpopulations. Methods： This was a meta-analysis of 9 randomized clinical trials （RCTs） among patients with RH up to June 2016. Sensitivity analyses and subgroup analyses were extensively conducted by baseline systolic blood pressure （SBP） level, antihypertensive medication change rates, and coronary heart disease （CHD）. Results： In all patients with RH, no statistical differences were found in mortality, severe cardiovascular events rate, and changes in 24-11 SBP and office SBP at 6 and 12 months. However, subgroup analyses showed significant differences between the RDN and control groups. In the subpopulations with baseline 24-h SBP 〉 155 mmHg （ 1 mmHg = 0.133 kPa） and the infrequently changed medication, the use of RDN resulted in a significant reduction in 24-h SBP level at 6 months （P = 0.100 and P = 0.009, respectively）. Subgrouping RCTs with a higher prevalent CHD in control showed that the control treatment was significantly better than RDN in office SBP reduction at 6 months （P 〈 0.001 ）. Conclusions： In all patients with RH, the catheter-based RDN is not more effective in lowering ambulatory or office BP than an optimized antihypertensive drug treatment at 6 and 12 months. However, among RH patients with higher baseline SBP, RDN might be more effective in reducing SBR

Acetaminophen(APAP),the most frequently used mild analgesic and antipyretic drug worldwide,is implicated in causing 46%of all acute liver failures in the USA and between 40%and 70%in *** predominant pharmacological intervention approved for mitigating such overdose is the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine(NAC);however,its efficacy is limited in cases of advanced liver injury or when administered at a late *** the current study,we discovered that treatment with a moderate intensity static magnetic field(SMF)notably reduced the mortality rate in mice subjected to high-dose APAP from 40%to 0%,proving effective at both the initial liver injury stage and the subsequent recovery *** the early phase of liver injury,SMF markedly reduced APAPinduced oxidative stress,free radicals,and liver damage,resulting in a reduction in multiple oxidative stress markers and an increase in the antioxidant glutathione(GSH).During the later stage of liver recovery,application of vertically downward SMF increased DNA synthesis and hepatocyte ***,the combination of NAC and SMF significantly mitigated liver damage induced by high-dose APAP and increased liver recovery,even 24 h post overdose,when the effectiveness of NAC alone substantially ***,this study provides a noninvasive non-pharmaceutical tool that offers dual benefits in the injury and repair stages following APAP *** note,this tool can work as an alternative to or in combination with NAC to prevent or minimize liver damage induced by APAP,and potentially other toxic overdoses.
