A typical Riedel Shear Pattern of active faults in the Laolongwan Basin， Northeastern Tibetan Plateau

Riedel shear system， consists of some different oriented faults and derivative structures， is an important pattern of tectonic activity and stress regulation， which has been widely applied to the interpretation of intracontinental deformation. The Laolongwan Basin， located in the western Haiyuan fault zone at the northeastern Tibetan Plateau， is a key area to study the Cenozoic intracontinental deformation in the northeastern plateau， which formed a complex active fault system during the Cenozoic. However， the activity of these faults and their kinematic mechanism remain unclear. In this contribution， based on detailed structural interpretation of remote sensing image， field observations and OSL dating analysis， we propose a Riedel Shear model of active fault system in the Laolongwan basin. Our observations show that this active fault system is consist of four major faults， including the left strike-slip Hasi Shan Fault and Zihong Shan Fault with thrusting characteristics， the Southern Zihong Shan thrust fault and the Mijia Shan normal fault. The fault offset and OSL dating analyses suggest that the left-lateral slip rate of the Hasi Shan Fault is ～ 2.60-3.01 mm/a since ca. 15 ka， whereas the Zihong Shan Fault is ～ 1.10-1.13 mm/a since ca. 14 ka. Fault-slip vectors analyses indicate that the active fault system related to the Riedel Shear in the Laolongwan Basin was controlled by the regional ENE-WSW compressive stress. This compression also caused the significant left-lateral strike-slip movement along the Haiyuan Fault zone at the same time， which might result from the northeastward continuous expanding of the Tibetan Plateau during the late Cenozoic.

A new method for the fast simulation of models of highly dependable Markov system

To fast evaluate the small probability that starts from the all-components-up state, the system hits the failed sets before returning to the all-components-up state, Important Sampling or Important Splitting is used commonly. In this paper, a new approach distinguished from Important Sampling and Important Splitting is presented to estimate this small probability of highly dependable Markov system. This new approach achieves variance reduction through improving the estimator itself. The new estimator is derived from the integral equation describing the state transitions of Markov system. That the variance of this estimator is less than that of naive simulation at all time is proved theoretically. Two example involved reliability models with deferred repair are used to compare the methods of RB, IGBS, SB-RBS, naive simulation, and the method presented in this paper. Results show our method has the least RE.

Corrosion products of reverse crevice corrosion of copper

Open-circuit potential measurements and Raman spectroscopy were used to investigate the reverse crevice corrosion phenomenon and its corresponding corrosion products. With the aid of these techniques, the existence of reverse-crevice corrosion in copper was verified, i.e., while the surface of a crevice was corrosion free, the outside surface of the copper was attacked. The processes associated with this phe-nomenon were classified into three phases, and different compositions of the corrosion products were determined. Raman spectra showed that copper and Cu2O were found in the crevice, while CuO, Cu2O, and CuCl2 were the corrosion products on the bold surface. Based on these findings, a hypothesis relating to the three phases of reverse crevice corrosion has been proposed.

Relationship Between Microstructure and Corrosion Behavior of Cr12Ni3Co12Mo4W Ultra-High-Strength Martensitic Stainless Steel

The effect of tempering temperature on the microstructure and corrosion behavior of Cr12Ni3Co12Mo4W ultra-high-strength martensitic stainless steel was investigated using transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and electrochemical tests. The microstructures of the ultra-high-strength martensitic stainless steel consisted of some retained austenite and lath/plant martensite with the carbides distributed within the matrix and at the grain boundaries. Tempering of the steel for 4 h at various temperatures resulted in various carbide grain sizes and different amounts of the retained austenite. The results showed that larger carbide grains led to diminished corrosion resistance, whereas larger amounts of the retained austenite resulted in improved corrosion resistance. The steels exhibited good corrosion resistance in 0.017 mol/L NaCl solution and exhibited pitting corrosion in 0.17 mol/L Na Cl solution. The martensite and prior austenite crystal boundaries dissolved in solution with pH 1.

Influence of microstructure on the corrosion resistance of Fe–44Ni thin films

An Fe–44Ni nanocrystalline（NC） alloy thin film was prepared through electrodeposition. The relation between the microstructure and corrosion behavior of the NC film was investigated using electrochemical methods and chemical analysis approaches. The results show that the NC film is composed of a face-centered cubic phase（γ-（Fe,Ni）） and a body-centered cubic phase（α-（Fe,Ni）） when it is annealed at temperatures less than 400℃. The corrosion resistance increases with the increase in grain size, and the corresponding corrosion process is controlled by oxygen reduction. The NC films annealed at 500℃ and 600℃ do not exhibit the same pattern, although their grain sizes are considerably large. This result is attributed to the existence of an anodic phase, Fe0.947Ni0.054, in these films. Under this condition, the related corrosion process is synthetically controlled by anodic dissolution and depolarization.

Effects of chloride ion concentration and pH values on the corrosion behavio of Cr12Ni3Co12Mo4W ultra-high-strength martensitic stainless steel

The effects of Cl ion concentration and pH values on the corrosion behavior of Cr12Ni3Co12Mo4W ultra-high-strength martensitic stainless steel（UHSMSS） were investigated by a series of electrochemical tests combined with observations by stereology microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. A critical Cl- ion concentration was found to exist（approximately 0.1wt%）, above which pitting occurred. The pitting potential decreased with increasing Cl- ion concentration. A UHSMSS specimen tempered at 600°C exhibited a better pitting corrosion resistance than the one tempered at 400°C. The corrosion current density and passive current density of the UHSMSS tempered at 600°C decreased with increasing pH values of the corrosion solution. The pits developed a shallower dish geometry with increasing polarization potential. A lacy cover on the pits of the UHSMSS tempered at 400°C accelerated pitting, whereas corrosion products deposited in the pits of the UHSMSS tempered at 600°C hindered pitting.

Corrosion behavior of aluminum alloys in Na_2SO_4 solution using the scanning electrochemical microscopy technique

The corrosion behavior of aluminum alloys 1060 and 2A12 in a 10 mM Na2SO4＋5 mM KI solution was investigated by scanning electrochemical microscopy （SECM） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. The potential topography and corrosion morphology results show that the potential of the sample surface over the same area changes with the increase of immersion time. The corrosion area becomes large, and the potential becomes more negative. The corrosion potential of the 2A12 alloy surface is lower than that of 1060 aluminum, and 2A12 alloy becomes easily corrosive. This is the reason that preferential dissolution in the boundary region of some intermetallic particles （IMPs） occurs and different dissolution behaviors are associated with different types of IMPs because of different potentials.

Study on the passive film formed on 2205 stainless steel in acetic acid by AAS and XPS

The properties of the passive film formed on 2205 stainless steel in acetic acid at high temperature that contained chloride ions were studied by atomic absorption spectrometry （AAS）, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）, and electrochemical polarization measurements. AAS results show that molybdenum is enriched on the surface as the passive film is dissolved. This enrichment decreases the corrosion resistance because it hinders chloride adsorption and Fe ion dissolution, and acts as a local pH buffer because it consumes protons. The dissolution ratio of Fe/Cr is approximately 10 during the active dissolution of the passive film. XPS results indicate that when the potential is in the passivation region, Cr comprises about 50% of the metal cations in the near-surface region of the passive film and is the main metal constituent in this region. When the polarization potential is much greater than the transpassivation potential, the Mo content accounts for approximately 45% of the metal cations in the nearurface region; Fe and Ni have no obvious influence on the formation, dissolution, or puncture of the passive film.

Electrochemical behaviors of magnesium alloy with phosphate conversion coating in NaCl solutions

A composite conversion coating was prepared on magnesium alloy by the only one-step immersion treatment. The characteristics of the conversion coating were investigated by scanning electron microscopy （SEM） and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）. The results indicate that the composite conversion coating consists of magnesium hydroxide, magnesium phosphate and man- ganese phosphate. The electrochemical behavior of the conversion coating was investigated systematically by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （EIS） and poten- tiodynamic polarization measurement in different NaC1 solutions. Polarization measurements and EIS results reveal that the magnesium alloy with the conversion coating have better corrosion resistance compared to the bare magnesium alloy in these conditions. And the corro- sion rate of the magnesium alloy with conversion coating increases consistently with the chloride ion concentration. In alkaline conditions, the magnesium alloy with conver- sion coating has superior corrosion resistance by the syn- ergistic effects between Mg（OH）2 film and conversion coating. Moreover, the electrochemical corrosion mechanism of the magnesium alloy was analyzed with respect to the conversion coating in a Cl^- containing environment.
