The deepening of global value chains(GVCs)has made remarkable impacts on the environmental outcomes of all countries/*** are the differences in environmental burden undertaken by countries/regions at different stages of economic development are a question worthy *** study compares the impacts of GVCs participation degree on CO_(2) intensity between developed and developing countries/*** panel data of 19 manufacturing industries in 43 countries/regions over the period of 2000-2014,it is discovered that the deeper participation in GVCs of developed countries/regions significantly reduces their CO_(2) intensity,while the more participation in GVCs of developing countries/regions significantly increases their CO_(2) ***,the quantile regression results reveal that the reduction of CO_(2) intensity is increasing for industries with higher initial CO_(2) intensity for developed countries/regions,whereas for developing countries/regions,only industries with initial low CO_(2) intensity experience significant increases in CO_(2) *** further analyzed the effect of GVCs participation degree on CO_(2) intensity for high-tech and low-tech industries and discovered that the effect is only significant in low-tech *** findings provide empirical evidence for the pollution haven hypothesis and offer enlightenment to formulate future trade and environmental policies.

BACKGROUND: China has the largest potential market for organ transplants in the world, but it has not yet established brain death and organ transplant laws. We aimed to investigate the attitudes and suggestions of doctors, pharmacists, and civil servants concerning brain death, organ transplantation, and their respective legislation. METHODS: A questionnaire with 10 sections and 44 questions was designed and distributed. The effective questionnaire data were then recorded and checked for descriptive analysis. RESULTS: In 1400 questionnaires distributed, 1063 were responded and 969 of them were valid and analyzed. The respondents showed an incomplete understanding of brain death and organ transplantation laws. Seventy-four percent of the respondents recognized and accepted the standard of brain death. They agreed that legislation should be involved in the removal of organs for transplantation, the future use of organs, and insurance and compensation for the donor for possible health risks induced by organ removal. Of the 969 respondents, 92% considered it necessary to have legislation in brain death and organ transplantation, and 61% thought that it is time to legislate. CONCLUSIONS: Legislation for brain death and organ transplantation is urgent and timely in China. The laws must include the respective rights and obligations of patients, close relatives, and medical institutions. Educating the public about brain death and organ transplantation should also be encouraged in a variety of ways.

An application of an unequal-weighted multi-objective decision making method in site selection of a waste sanitary landfill is discussed. The eight factors, which affected possible options, were: size and capacity of the landfill, permeability of the stratum, the average difference in elevation between the groundwater level and the bottom of the landfill pit, quality and source of clay, the quality grade of the landfill site, the effect of landfill engineering on nearby residents, distance to the water supply and the water source as well as the cost of construction and waste transport. These are determined, given the conditions of the geological environment, the need for environmental protection and landfill site construction and transportation related to the design and operation of a sanitary landfill. The weights of the eight factors were further investigated based on the difference in their relevance. Combined with practical experience from Xuzhou city (Jiangsu province, China), the objectives, effects and weights of grey decision-making were deter- mined and the process and outcome of the landfill site selection are stated in detail. The decision-making results have been proven to be acceptable and correct. As we show, unequal-weighted multi-objective grey situation decision-mak- ing is characterized by easy calculations and good maneuverability when used in landfill site selection. The number of factors (objectives) affecting the outcome and the quantitative method of qualitative indices can be adjusted on the basis of concrete conditions in landfill site selection. Therefore, unequal-weighted multi-objective grey situation decision making is a feasible method in selecting landfill sites which offers a reference method for landfill site selection else- where. It is a useful, rational and scientific exploration in the choice of`a landfill site.

In this study, kinetic energy budget equations of rotational and divergent flow in pressure coordinates are derived on terrain-following coordinates. The new formulation explicitly shows the terrain effects and can be applied directly to model-simulated dynamic and thermodynamic fields on the model's original vertical grid. Such application eliminates interpolation error and avoids errors in virtual weather systems in mountainous areas. These advantages and their significance are demonstrated by a numerical study in terrain-following coordinates of a developing vortex after it moves over the Tibetan Plateau in China.

Aim: Yiqi-Liangxue Recipe(YL) is a compound preparation of Chinese medicine used for preventing cardiovascular events after percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)(Patent No. 200810240175.4). Maintaining the integrity of endothelia is one of the most effective approaches to prevent restenosis. Given its clinical protective effects on long-term prognosis, we investigated the mechanisms of YL in protecting vascular endothelial ***: We prepared drugs serum and human umbilical vein endothelial cell(HUVEC) lines. The injured model was employed with Angiotensin II(Ang II). The YL group was employed with YL treatment. The ARB medicine group was employed with Losartan Potassium treatment. The combination of Chinese medicine and western medicine(YL+ARB) group was employed with both YL and ARB. The control group was unemployed with injury and medical treatment. For each group the cell migration rate(CM) and cell proliferation rate(CP) were measured. The concentration of Nitric Oxide(NO), Reactive Oxygen Species(ROS), Endothelin-1(ET-1) were assessed. The gene expression level of ET-1 was ***: YL+ARB group significantly promoted the speed of the CM/CP of the injured HUVECs. Compared with model group, the concentration of NO increased after the drug intervention, and the concentration of ET-1 decreased. Compared with YL+ARB group, YL and ARB group each had the similar weaker effects, but did not have significant difference. The fluorescence of ROS in YL, ARB and YL+ARB group had no difference because the fluorescence was too strong. Compared with model group, the-2ΔΔCt values were decreased in the YL, ARB and YL+ARB group. The corrosion behavior of a carbon steel covered by sand deposits in the solution containing sulfate-reducing bacteria(SRB)under nitrogen purging conditions was studied by electrochemical measurements and surface analyses,aiming at clarifying the mitigation effects of nitrogen purging on SRB-involved under-deposit *** electrochemical results show that the variation trend of polarization resistance with immersion time is unchanged,but the corrosion current density is the lowest in the presence of SRB and deposits under nitrogen purging conditions,as compared to that without purging nitrogen,which are confirmed by the cross-sectional corrosion morphology observation after removing the sand ***,it is found that there are no positive synergistic effects between SRB and deposits on corrosion under nitrogen purging conditions,corresponding to the corrosion *** mitigation on corrosion can be attributed to the less amount of SRB-produced H2S exhausted by purging nitrogen,which is supported by X-ray photoelectron spectrometry ***,purging nitrogen to the solution could be a practically effective way to mitigate the corrosion of deposit-covered carbon steels in SRB-containing solutions.

Three （2E）-3-（4＇-halophenyl）prop-2-enoyl sulfachlorpyridazine sodium salts（XPSCA） were synthesized. Their chemical structures were confirmed by IH NMR and 13C NMR, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry （ESI-MS）, and infrared（IR） spectroscopy. The interactions between XPSCA and bovine serum albumin（BSA） were investigated under imitated physiological condition by fluorescence quenching technique and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy according to the Stern-Volmer equation. The results from the emission quenching at different tempera- tures indicate that the quenching mechanism of serum albumin by XPSCA was static quenching mechanism at low XPSCA concentrations or a combined quenching（static and dynamic） mechanism at higher XPSCA concentrations. At different temperatures, the binding constant and the binding sites of XPSCA with BSA were investigated, and the distances were evaluated according to F6rster non-radiative resonance energy transfer theory. The thermodynamic parameters were calculated according to van＇t Hoff equation, which implies that both van der Waals interaction and hydrogen bond played major roles in stabilizing the XPSCA-BSA complexes, whereas hydrophobic interactions were secondary. Moreover, the conformational changes in BSA were analyzed by synchronous fluorescence spectra.

Inclusion Distribution in Ingots Investigated by Dissection

Inclusion distribution in ingots was studied by dissection of a 16.8 t P12 ingot and a 5.0 t H13 ingot, with the analysis of T[O], original position statistic distribution analysis （OPA）, metallographic microscope static analysis and small sample electrolysis. The results showed that the inclusions in ingots were uneven; a positive segregation area was found in the center and lower part of the ingot, while a negative segregation area was present in the central part of ingot top; inclusion segregation in a large size ingot was severer than that in a small one. A new con cept, named inclusion segregation index, was put forward to quantify the segregation degree of inclusion. It was found that the segregation indexes drawn from T[O] analysis and OPA fit well, but they were different from those obtained by metallograpbic microscope static analysis and small sample electrolysis in the investigation of Pl 2 ingot, which contained a higher sulfur content; while the segregation index drawn from T[O] analysis was close to that from metallographic microscope static analysis in the H13 ingot with a lower sulfur content.
