Serum vaspin level in relation to postprandial plasma glucose concentration in subjects with diabetes

Background Vaspin is a newly-identified adipocytokine related to obesity and insulin sensitivity. However, its pathophysiologic role in humans remains largely unknown. The aim of our study was to investigate the relationship between serum vaspin level and glucose metabolism or obesity in Chinese adults. Methods A total of 123 subjects, including 84 subjects with normal glucose tolerance （NGT） and 39 subjects with diabetes, were enrolled in this study. Anthropometric parameters, abdominal fat areas, plasma glucose concentration, serum insulin, lipids, and vaspin level were measured in each participant. Results Serum vaspin concentration was significantly higher in diabetic patients than that in NGT subjects （592 （438-695） pg/ml vs 380 （294-517） pg/ml, P=0.020） in women. In all participants, age, fasting plasma glucose concentration （FPG）, 2-hour post-load plasma glucose （PG2h）, hemoglobin Alc （HbAlc） and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol （HDL-c） significantly increased from the lower tertile to the higher tertile of vaspin. Univariate linear regression analyses revealed that vaspin level was only positively correlated with age （β=0.340, P=0.002） in NGT subjects. And vaspin was positively associated with FPG （β=0.365, P=0.023）, PG2h （β=0.526, P=0.001）, HbAlc （β=0.388, P=0.016）, and HDL-c （β=0.353, P=0.027）, while negatively with homeostasis model assessment of beta cell function （HOMA-β）（β=-0.361, P=-0.024） in diabetic patients. In stepwise multivariate regression analyses, age was independently associated with circulating vaspin in NGT subjects, whereas PG2h was an independent predictor of vaspin in diabetic patients. In addition, there was no significant difference of serum vaspin level between men and women. And no significant correlations between vaspin and body fat indexes were detected. Physical aging is an inherent property of glassy matter, but understanding its microscopic mechanism remains a challenge particularly at the particle level. In this work, we use a confocal microscope to in-situ trace the particle trajectories in a 3D colloidal glass for 73000 s, aiming at resolving the aging dynamics. By calculating the mean square displacement of particle motions, we find that the glass aging with time can be divided into three stages: β relaxation, α relaxation and free diffusion. The system's mean square displacement at each aging state is quantitatively resolved into three contributions of particle dynamics modes: vibration within the nearest-neighbor cages, hopping between cages and cooperative rearrangement. We further calculate the particle's free volume and find that the β-to-α transition is accompanied by the temporary increase of the system-averaged free volume due to pronounced hops of particles. Nevertheless, the temporal autocorrelation of the free volume spatial distribution still obeys a monotonically stretched exponential decay with an exponent of 0.76, which is related to the sub-diffusion dynamics of cooperative rearrangements and hops mixed in α relaxation. According to the resolved vibrational displacements,we calculate the vibrational density of states of this 3D glass, and the characteristic boson peak is reproduced at low *** findings shed insight into the particle-level aging dynamics of a real glass under purely thermal activation.

A small fraction of NOx（<1%） always exists in CO2feedstock（e.g. exhausted gas）, which can significantly reduce the efficiency of CO2electroreduction by ～30%. Hence, electrochemical denitrification is the precondition of CO2electroreduction. The pH effect is a key factor, and can be used to tune the selectivity between N2and N2O production in electrochemical denitrification. However, there has been much controversy for many years about the origin of pH dependence in electrocatalysis. To this end, we present a new scheme to accurately model the pH dependence of the electrochemical mechanism. An extremely small pH variation from pH 12.7 to pH 14 can be accurately reproduced for N2O production. More importantly,the obviously different pH dependence of N2production, compared to N2O, can be attributed to a cascade path. In other words, the N2was produced from the secondary conversion of the as-produced N2O molecule（the major product）, instead of the original reactant NO. This is further supported by more than 35 experiments over varying catalysts（Fe, Ni, Pd, Cu, Co, Pt and Ag）, partial pressures（20%, 50% and100%） and potentials（from -0.2 to 0.2 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode）. All in all, the insights herein overturn long-lasting views in the field of NO electroreduction and suggest that rational design should steer away from catalyst engineering toward reactor optimization.

Exploration targeting outer planets and even the edge of the solar system is an emerging direction for the deep-space exploration in the next decades. To address this challenge, a novel two-layer Lagrangebased relay network topology is proposed in this study. Specifically, we utilize the Sun-Mars and Sun-Saturn Lagrange points(LPs) L4 and L5 to build a two-layer backbone relay network, which ensures continuous and high-efficiency communication capability for the exploration of the solar system. Furthermore, we utilize the planetary gravity assist and design the transfer trajectory of backbone relays with the help of planetary celestial body motion equations and Kepler's laws. Moreover, we conduct link budget analysis for multihop relay transmission under Gamma-Gamma distribution, shadowed Rician fading, and additive white Gaussian noise channels in several typical exploration scenarios and validate that the LP relays can effectively support future deep-space exploration missions.
