Understanding material-protein interactions is the basis for regulating material-blood interactions,which is a common topic of interest for medical material developers.In recent years,researchers have conducted extensive studies on(1)the structural charac-teristics of the plasma protein adsorption layer on the material surface,including the evolution of the protein adsorption layer and its typical binary structure.(2)Influence factors of the protein adsorption layer formation include protein factors(e.g.,isoelectric point,structural stability),material factors(e.g.,wettability,surface charge,morphology,size),and environmental factors.(3)Effects of some common plasma proteins in the protein adsorption layer on material-blood interactions.Here,we review the important research results in this field,hoping to provide a reference for future development of advanced blood contact materials.

Bone defects repair and regeneration by various causes such as tumor resection, trauma, degeneration, etc. havealways been a key issue in the clinics. As one of the few organs that can regenerate after adulthood, bone itselfhas a strong regenerative ability. In recent decades, bone tissue engineering technology provides various types offunctional scaffold materials and seed cells for bone regeneration and repair, which significantly accelerates thespeed and quality of bone regeneration, and many clinical problems are gradually solved. However, the bonemetabolism mechanism is complicated, the research duration is long and difficult, which significantly restrictsthe progress of bone regeneration and repair research. Organoids as a new concept, which is built in vitro withthe help of tissue engineering technology based on biological theory, can simulate the complex biologicalfunctions of organs in vivo. Once proposed, it shows broad application prospects in the research of organdevelopment, drug screening, mechanism study, and so on. As a complex and special organ, bone organoidconstruction itself is quite challenging. This review will introduce the characteristics of bone microenvironment,the concept of organoids, focus on the research progress of bone organoids, and propose the strategies for boneorganoid construction, study direction, and application prospects.

Recirculation is expected to be identified for its possibility to dramatically decrease the efficiency of planetary gear trains(PGTs).However,it exhibits an unexplained connection with the structure,making it challenging to identify without tedious computation through tooth and speed ratios,thus complicating the design process.This study employs a generic model utilizing the mechanical balance principle and reveals the fundamental laws of the previously unexplained connection for parallel-connected ring-sun-type PGTs.Two necessary and sufficient conditions,torque and structure,were proven for multi-stage and two-stage PGTs without recirculation,respectively.This shows that the structure,specifically whether the links are central gears or carriers,and the connections between them directly impact the recirculation of these PGTs.A geometric model representing the structure and kinematics was developed to visualize the power flow.Thus,the recirculation of parallel-connected ring-sun-type PGTs can be predicted without calculations.Our results provide the underlying insights to understanding recirculation from the structural connection viewpoint,thereby contributing to the conceptual design phase where the task is to select the kinematic structure and the gear size is unknown.

Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(VA-ECMO) is indicated in patients with severe cardiogenic shock.During extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO) use,systemic anticoagulation is generally used to ensure the normal functioning of ECMO.Hemorrhage and thrombosis are two important complications of ECMO.However,despite adequate anticoagulation,some patients still experience thrombosis,such as inferior vena cava thrombosis (IVCT),after the removal of ECMO.^([1,2])A metaanalysis showed that the incidence of venous thrombosis during ECMO treatment is approximately 10%,^([3])but IVCT is rarely reported.We report two cases of IVCT after the removal of VA-ECMO cannulas.

Hereditary spastic paraplegia(HSP)is a group of genetic motor neuron diseases resulting from length-dependent axonal degeneration of the corticospinal upper motor neurons.Due to the advancement of next-generation sequencing,more than 70 novel HSP disease-causing genes have been identified in the past decade.Despite this,our understanding of HSP physiopathology and the development of efficient management and treatment strategies remain poor.One major challenge in studying HSP pathogenicity is selective neuronal vulnerability,characterized by the manifestation of clinical symptoms that are restricted to specific neuronal populations,despite the presence of germline disease-causing variants in every cell of the patient.Furthermore,disease genes may exhibit ubiquitous expression patterns and involve a myriad of different pathways to cause motor neuron degeneration.In the current review,we explore the correlation between transcriptomic data and clinical manifestations,as well as the importance of interspecies models by comparing tissue-specific transcriptomic profiles of humans and mice,expression patterns of different genes in the brain during development,and single-cell transcriptomic data from related tissues.Furthermore,we discuss the potential of emerging single-cell RNA sequencing technologies to resolve unanswered questions related to HSP pathogenicity.

The attitude of spherical liquid-filled spacecraft is controlled based on the high-order fully actuated system approaches.The rigid-fluid coupling dynamic equation can be established in terms of the Euler angles of the spacecraft and the angular velocities of the liquid fuel.According to the dynamic equation,three kinds of input selections are presented.In the case of one control input,the dynamic equation is transformed into the third-order or the second-order differential equations of the Euler angle by the high-order fully actuated system approaches.Then a control law is designed to track the target.The effectiveness of the control law is demonstrated by numerical simulations.

The inculcation of bioinspiration in sensing and human–machine interface(HMI)technologies can lead to distinctive characteristics such as conformability,low power consumption,high sensitivity,and unique properties like self-healing,self-cleaning,and adaptability.Both sensing and HMI are fields rife with opportunities for the application of bioinspired nanomaterials,particularly when it comes to wearable sensory systems where biocompatibility is an additional requirement.This review discusses recent development in bioinspired nanomaterials for wearable sensing and HMIs,with a specific focus on state-of-the-art bioinspired capacitive sensors,piezoresistive sensors,piezoelectric sensors,triboelectric sensors,magnetoelastic sensors,and electrochemical sensors.We also present a comprehensive overview of the challenges that have hindered the scientific advancement in academia and commercialization in the industry.

A Multi-Objective Optimization Method of Initial Virtual Machine Fault-Tolerant Placement for Star Topological Data Centers of Cloud Systems

Virtualization is the most important technology in the unified resource layer of cloud computing systems.Static placement and dynamic management are two types of Virtual Machine(VM)management methods.VM dynamic management is based on the structure of the initial VM placement,and this initial structure will affect the efficiency of VM dynamic management.When a VM fails,cloud applications deployed on the faulty VM will crash if fault tolerance is not considered.In this study,a model of initial VM fault-tolerant placement for star topological data centers of cloud systems is built on the basis of multiple factors,including the service-level agreement violation rate,resource remaining rate,power consumption rate,failure rate,and fault tolerance cost.Then,a heuristic ant colony algorithm is proposed to solve the model.The service-providing VMs are placed by the ant colony algorithms,and the redundant VMs are placed by the conventional heuristic algorithms.The experimental results obtained from the simulation,real cluster,and fault injection experiments show that the proposed method can achieve better VM fault-tolerant placement solution than that of the traditional first fit or best fit descending method.

Determination of gas adsorption capacity in organic-rich marine shale: a case study of Wufeng-Lower Longmaxi Shale in the southeast Sichuan Basin

Determination of gas adsorption capacity under geological conditions is essential in evaluating shale gas resource potential.A quantitative determination of gas adsorption capacity was proposed through 1)investigating controlling geological factors(including both internal ones and external ones)of gas adsorption capacity in organic-rich marine shale with geochemical analysis,XRD diffraction,field-emission scanning electron microscopy,and methane sorption isotherms;2)defining the relationship between gas adsorption capacity and single controlling factor;3)establishing a comprehensive determination model with the consideration of all these controlling factors.The primary controlling factors of the sorption capacity for the studied O3wLower S1l shale are TOC,illite and quartz,temperature,pressure,Ro,and moisture(water saturation).Specifically,TOC,thermal maturity,illite,and pressure are positively correlated with sorption capacity,whereas,quartz and temperature contribute negatively to the sorption capacity.We present the quantitative model along with application examples from the Wufeng-Lower Longmaxi Shale in the southeast Sichuan Basin,west China,to demonstrate the approach in shale gas evaluation.The result shows that the comprehensive determination model provides a good and unbiased estimate of gas adsorption capacities with a high correlation coefficient(0.96)and bell-shaped residues centered at zero.
