Reversibility of minimal hepatic encephalopathy following liver transplantation in Egyptian cirrhotic patients

AIMTo evaluate the reversibility of minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) following liver transplantation (LT) in Egyptian cirrhotic patients. METHODsThis prospective study included twenty patients with biopsy-proven liver cirrhosis listed for LT and twenty age- and sex-matched healthy control subjects. All underwent neuro-psychiatric examination, laboratory investigations, radiological studies and psychometric tests including trail making test A (TMT A), TMT B, digit symbol test and serial dotting test. The psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score (PHEs) was calculated for patients to diagnose MHE. Psychometric tests were repeated six months following LT in the cirrhotic patient group. REsULTsBefore LT, psychometric tests showed highly significant deficits in cirrhotic patients in comparison to controls (P P P P = 0.005). More patients in whom reversal of MHE was observed had a pre-transplant MELD score COnCLUsIOnReversal of MHE in cirrhotic patients could be achieved by LT, especially in those with a MELD score

当前计算机步入移动计算时代,产生了许多新的应用,其中基于地理信息系统和位置服务的地图查询——导航就是其中之一。这类应用可以抽象为求图最短路径问题,由于节点数量巨大,传统方式不能满足用户对响应时间的要求,提出通过C/s架构来合理分配任务,并在server端对图最短路径进行了多核、多机等不同层次的并行化,以满足用户对实时性的需求。通过对该方法和传统方法的对比评估,该方法有效缩短了用户的等待时间,提高了用户的满意度,同时减少了对移动设备电量的消耗。

Ab initio total energy calculations are used to simulate the building of equiatomic solid APballoys (A=Li, na, K) with A4Pb4 clusters which are particularly stable in the gas phase. Theeight clusters per unit cell were drawn together by shrinking the cell in stages, and allowingfull atomic relaxation at each stage. Charged Pb4 tetrahedral units dominate the structuraland electronic properties, and these units are remarkably robust and insensitive to their alkalienvironment. The stability of the Pb4 units diminishes as we progress from K to Li and lead totheir absence in the LiPb alloy in accordance with experiment. The distance between Pb4 unitsseems to be the critical factor responsible for the structural trends, which is determined by theatomic size of the alkali.

Geophysical lineaments of Western Ghats and adjoining coastal areas of central Kerala,southern India and their temporal development

A family of geophysical lineaments have been identified in ~15,000 km^2 in central Kerala between9 30'n to 10 45'n and 76 00'E to 77°30′E,integrating geophysical data with geological and geomorphological features. The characteristics of these lineaments in the magnetic and gravity fields and their derivatives have been analysed. The evolution of the lineaments has been traced to the temporal phases of global evolution of the region. A group of these faults have formed by reactivation of the deep-seated distensional fractures associated with and accompanying dyke emplacements during the episodic breakup of Gondwana at ~90 and 65 Ma under distinctive mantle thermal regimes. It is possible that reactivation of these distensional faults may have started during the cooling interval of time between the two distensions in the 90 and 65 Ma and post 65 Ma periods and later in the Cenozoic, when the lineaments were enlarged to their present dimension, possibly under the influence of forces that led to the uplift of the western Ghats. These may extend down to the crust-mantle interface. A cluster of youngergeophysical lineaments has been generated by reactivation along the weak planes of transformation of the charnockitic rocks of the Precambrian. They seem to have a strike-slip character. They are devoid of any dyke association and were formed on a cold crust. They may be confined to the upper-middle *** were generated in the high intensity intra-plate palaeo-stress fields of the triple forces arising from(1) the back-thrust from the Himalayan Collision;(2) the impact of epeirogenic forces and related isostatic uplift of the Western Ghats and(3) the flexural isostatic uplifts due to surface loads of late Mesozoic basaltic lavas and Cenozoic sedimentation in the coastal rifted basins in late Cenozoic, probably in the time span of 20 Ma to the present, when the palaeostress fields were most intense.

Design, synthesis and Evaluation of substituted n-（3-Arylpropyl）-9,10-dihydro-9-oxoacridine-4-carboxamides as Potent MDR Reversal Agents in Cancer

A novel class of molecules with structure n-（3-arylpropyl）-9,10-dihydro-9-oxoacridine-4-carboxamides （20- 29） were designed by generating a pharmacophore for potent MDR reversal activity using phase drug design software. The designed molecules were synthesized by a novel synthesis route and evaluated for their inhibitory effects on the transport activity of P-glycoprotein （P-gp） by standard Hoechst 33342 assay method. Based on the pIC50 values of ten title compounds screened, three compounds exhibited better activity as compared to Verapamil used as standard.

Impact of Lignosulfonate on solution Chemistry and Phospholipid Fatty Acid Composition in soils

An incubation experiment(Exp. 1) with three soils, two from Australia and one from norway, was carried out to investigate the fate of dissolved BorreGro(a lignosulfonate, produced by Borregaard LignoTech Company, norway) at different concentrations(0, 10 and 100 mg C L-1) in soil solutions. A rhizobox experiment(Exp. 2) was also done in a norwegian clay soil, mixed with four levels of BorreGro-carbon(BG-C) added(0, 2, 20 and 200 mg BG-C kg-1) to test the impact of BorreGro on root growth, rhizosphere chemistry(pH, metals and dissolved organic carbon(DOC)) and the composition of phospholipid fatty acids(PLFAs). The BorreGro addition increased the concentration of Mn due to the high concentrations in BorreGro. The BorreGro addition to soil had an indirect but significant impact on the rhizosphere chemistry and PLFAs. The lowest amounts of added BorreGro facilitated the DOC excretion at plant roots, and thereby increased the bacterial and fungal biomass, likely as an effect of increased Mn solubility from BorreGro in the root zone.

The degradation behavior of srBi2Ta2O9 (sBT) thin films annealed in forming gas (5%H2+95%n2) was investigated. The ferroelectric remnant polarization Px of sBT had a severe decrease in the containing H2 atmosphere at 400°C. sEM results showed that Bi could be reduced from sBT thin films for the effect of H2. The reduction role increased with a rise of annealing temperature. sBT thin films lost their ferroelectricity when the annealing temperature was above 450°C. It implied that the degradation of Pr value or the disappearance of ferroelectricity in sBT thin, films had the relationship with the reductive amounts of Bi in sBT. H2 played an important role in degradation of ferroelectric sBT thin films. This role could be attributed to its strong reduction activity during forming gas annealing.

Influence of Abiotic Elicitors on Accumulation of Thymol in Callus Cultures of Origanum vulgare L.

Callus cultures of Origanum vulgare L. were established from leaf discus on Murashige and skoog （Ms） medium containing different levels of growth regulators, i.e., 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid （2,4-D）, naphthalene acetic acid （nAA）, Benzyl Adenine （BA） and Kinetin （Kn） and incubated under dark condition. Callus tissues were employed to study the influence of abiotic elicitors on the production of thymol. Constant weights of callus （300 mg） were cultured on accumulation medium treated separately with each one of elicitors used （50 g/L sucrose, 200 mg/L naC1 and 50 or 100 mg/L proline）. The fresh and dry weights of callus were recorded after six weeks. The result indicated that maximum production of fresh and dry callus weight were 1,014 mg and 46.20 mg respectively achieved at 0.5 mg/L 2,4-D and 3 mg/L BA adding to the medium. Dry callus tissues were extracted with 70% methanol and analyzed by HPLC to determine the concentrations of thymol. The addition of abiotic elicitors to Ms medium caused significant reduction in fresh weight of callus compared with control treatment. The concentration of thymol in the callus cultured on control treatment was 146.6 ppm. The data showed that 50 or 100 mg/L proline produced the highest yield of thymol 181.48 ppm and 174.58 ppm respectively, followed by sucrose 162.9 ppm, whereas the treatment with naCI caused reduction in thymol concentration to percentage of 50.56% compared with the control.
