Urban water system theory and its model development and application

The urban water system theory is an extension of the basin water system science on an urban scale, providing a new systematic solution for the unbalanced human-water relationship and severe water challenges, such as waterlogging, black and odorous water, and ecological degradation caused by urbanization. Most existing studies on urban water systems have focused on individual water cycle processes linked with water supply and sewage treatment plants, but mutual feedback between the water cycle and its associated material circulation and water ecology, as well as human processes, still needs further exploration. In this paper, the concept, theory, and technical methodology of the urban water system were developed based on the water cycle and basin water system science. The Urban Water System 5.0(UWS 5.0) model was developed by integrating the Time Variant Gain rainfall-runoff Model with Urban water system(TVGM_Urban) in different underlying surface conditions for analyzing the natural-social water cycle processes and their associated water environmental and ecological processes and the influence of multiscale sponge measures. Herein, five major simulation functions were realized: rainfall-runoff-nonpoint source pollutant load,water and pollutant transportations through the drainage network system, terminal regulation and purification, socioeconomic water cycle, and water system assessment and regulation. The location for the case study used in this paper was Wuhan City. The findings showed that the entire urban water system should consider the built-up area and its associated rivers and lakes as the research object and explore the integrations among the urban natural-social water cycle and river regulations inside and outside of the city as well as the effects of socioeconomic development and sponge measures on the water quantity-quality-ecology processes. Non-radical activation of persulfate(PS)by photocatalysts is an effective approach for removing organic pollutants from aqueous *** this study,a novel Bi_(2)O_(3)/BiO_(1.3)I_(0.4)heterojunction was synthesized using a facile solvothermal approach and used for the first time for non-radical activation of PS to degrade propranolol(PRO)in the presence of visible *** findings found that the degradation rate of PRO in the Bi_(2)O_(3)/BiO_(1.3)I_(0.4)/PS system was significantly increased from 19%to more than 90%within 90 min compared to the Bi_(2)O_(3)/BiO_(1.3)I_(0.4)*** indicated that the composite system exerted an excellent synergistic effect between the photocatalyst and the persulfate-based *** tests and electron paramagnetic resonance demonstrated that the non-radical pathway with singlet oxygen as the active species played a major role in the photocatalytic *** existence of photo-generated holes during the reaction could also be directly involved in the oxidation of ***,a possible PRO degradation pathway was also ***,the impacts of pH,humic acid and common anions on the PRO degradation by the Bi_(2)O_(3)/BiO_(1.3)I_(0.4)/PS were explored,and the system’s stability and reusability were also *** study exhibits a highly productive catalyst for PS activation via a non-radical pathway and provides a new idea for the degradation of PRO.

Global Marine Cold Seep Metagenomes Reveal Diversity of Taxonomy,Metabolic Function,and Natural Products

Cold seeps in the deep sea are closely linked to energy exploration as well as global climate *** alkane-dominated chemical energy-driven model makes cold seeps an oasis of deep-sea life,showcasing an unparalleled reservoir of microbial genetic ***,by analyzing 113 metagenomes collected from 14 global sites across 5 cold seep types,we present a comprehensive Cold Seep Microbiomic Database(CSMD)to archive the genomic and functional diversity of cold seep *** CSMD includes over 49 million non-redundant genes and 3175 metagenome-assembled genomes,which represent 1895 species spanning 105 *** addition,beta diversity analysis indicates that both the sampling site and cold seep type have a substantial impact on the prokaryotic microbiome community *** and anaerobic metabolisms are prevalent in microbial communities,accompanied by considerable mixotrophs and facultative anaerobes,highlighting the versatile metabolic potential in cold ***,secondary metabolic gene cluster analysis indicates that at least 98.81%of the sequences potentially encode novel natural products,with ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides being the predominant type widely distributed in archaea and ***,the CSMD represents a valuable resource that would enhance the understanding and utilization of global cold seep microbiomes.

In this work,a conventional HfO_(2) gate dielectric layer is replaced with a 3-nm ferroelectric(Fe) HZO layer in the gate stacks of advanced fin field-effect transistors(FinFETs).Fe-induced characteristics,e.g.,negative drain induced barrier lowering(N-DIBL) and negative differential resistance(NDR),are clearly observed for both p-and n-type HZO-based *** characteristics are attributed to the enhanced ferroelectricity of the 3-nm hafnium zirconium oxide(HZO) film,caused by Al doping from the TiAlC capping *** mechanism is verified for capacitors with structures similar to the *** to the enhanced ferroelectricity and N-DIBL phenomenon,the drain current(I_(DS))of the HZO-FinFETs is greater than that of HfO_(2)-FinFETs and obtained at a lower operating ***,circuits based on HZO-FinFET achieve higher performance than those based on HfO_(2)-FinFET at a low voltage drain(V_(DD)),which indicates the application feasibility of the HZO-FinFETs in the ultralow power integrated circuits.

Controllability Gramian-based measures of graph product networks

This paper addresses the controllability measures of composite networks based on graph products, in which the graph product networks are either Kronecker product networks or Kronecker sum *** primary objective pursued here is to reveal the controllability Gramian-based measure links between the graph product composite network and its subnetworks. First, the analytical expression of the average controllability for the Kronecker product network is derived by using the corresponding controllability measures of its subnetworks. An upper bound of volumetric control energy is further obtained for the Kronecker product network. Then, the upper bounds are derived for the controllability measures of the Kronecker sum network,which provide a valuable reference for designing controllable networks in practical applications. Finally, the controllability of the Kronecker product network is compared with that of the Kronecker sum network, and it is found that when the subnetworks satisfy certain conditions, the Kronecker product network has better average controllability than the Kronecker sum network.

Many economically important crops and vegetables belonging to the cruciferous family are heavily endangered by clubroot disease caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae *** of clubroot resistant cultivars based on mapping and cloning of resistant genes is commonly regarded as the most cost-effective and efficient way to fight against this *** traditional way of R gene functional validation requires stable transformation that is both time-and *** this study,a rapid and efficient hairy-root transgenic protocol mediated by Agrobacterium rhizogenes was *** transformation positive rate was over 80%in Brassica napus showed by GUS reporter gene and this transformation only took 1/6 of the time compared with stable *** system was applicable to different *** varieties and other cruciferous crops including Brassica rapa and Brassica *** particular,two known CR genes,CRA3.7.1 and CRA8.2.4 were used respectively,as example to show that the system works well for CR gene study combined with subsequent *** infection in *** importantly,it works both in over-expression that led to disease resistance,as well as in RNAi which led to disease susceptible ***,this system can be used in batch-wise identification of CR genes,and also offered the possibility of manipulating key genes within the *** genome that could improve our knowledge on host-pathogen interaction.
