The morphology and distribution of manganese sulfide(MnS)inclusions have a significant influence on the comprehensive performance,which is an important research field for resulfurized *** on the experiments of non-aqueous electrolyte and scanning electron microscope observation,the fractal theory was employed to study the three-dimensional morphologies of MnS *** results showed that the edge fractal dimension of MnS inclusions was between 1.59 and *** addition,similar morphology of MnS inclusions had a close fractal *** MnS edge fractal dimension is highly positively correlated with the morphological *** multifractal spectrums of MnS inclusions on two-dimensional plane of as-cast and as-rolled resulfurized free-cutting steels were *** large-size MnS inclusions belong to large probability subset,while the small-size MnS inclusions belong to small probability *** multifractal spectrum can truly and effectively reflect the difference and non-uniformity of distribution of MnS inclusions on 2D *** the premise of similar content of MnS,with the refinement of MnS inclusions,the multifractal spectrum width and the multifractal spectrum symmetry parameter were *** multifractal spectrum provides a new method for studying the second phase in materials.

Lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs)have already developed into one of the most promising new-generation high-energy density electrochemical energy storage systems with outstanding features including high-energy density,low cost,and environmental ***,the development and commercialization path of LSBs still presents significant limitations and challenges,particularly the notorious shuttle effect triggered by soluble longchain lithium polysulfides(LiPSs),which inevitably leads to low utilization of cathode active sulfur and high battery capacity degradation,short cycle life,*** research efforts have been conducted to develop various sulfur host materials capable of effectively restricting the shuttle *** review firstly introduces the fundamental electrochemical aspects of LSBs,followed by a comprehensive analysis of the mechanism underlying the shuttle effect in Li–S batteries and its profound influence on various battery components as well as the overall battery ***,recent advances and strategies are systematically reviewed,including physical confinement,chemisorption,and catalytic conversion of sulfur hosts for restricting LiPSs shuttle *** interplay mechanisms of sulfur hosts and LiPSs are discussed in detail and the structural advantages of different host materials are ***,key insights for the rational design of advanced host materials for LSBs are provided,and the upcoming challenges and the prospects for sulfur host materials in lithium-sulfur batteries are also explored.

The effect of Nb on the corrosion resistance of steels in simulating an oil-corrosion environment was investigated by means of microstructure observation, electrochemical test, dissolved Nb content measurement and Nb segregation observation. The results show that the microstructure of the experimental steels is mainly ferrite with a little pearlite. The dissolved Nb contents of the experimental steels are 0.0235 and 0.0458 wt.%, respectively, while the undissolved Nb content is nearly the same. In addition to enhancing mechanical properties of the steel, dissolved Nb improves the corrosion resistance by enriching Nb in the rust layer. Nb oxides in the rust layer cause a decrease in the corrosion rate due to a decrease in the anodic reaction kinetics. The segregation of Nb at the grain boundaries suppresses the corrosion. Moreover, Nb is enriched at the bottom of the corrosion pit and prevents any further corrosion.

BACKGROUND： Synphilin-1 has been shown to be involved in the pathogenesis of Parkinson＇s disease （PD）, and superoxide dismutase （SOD） reduction might induce PD onset. To date, the precise effect of synphilin-1 on SOD expression remains poorly understood. OBJECTIVE： To explore the influence of synphilin-1 small interfering RNA （siRNA） on SOD expression in a rat model of PD. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： A randomized, controlled, animal experiment was performed at the Laboratory of Neurology, Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University Medical School from June to October 2008. MATERIALS： 6-hydroxydopamine was purchased from Wuhan Boster, China. METHODS： A total of 40 male, Wistar rats were randomly assigned to PD, siRNA, siRNA negative control, and control groups, with 10 rats in each group. Rats from the PD, siRNA, and siRNA negative control groups were injected with 6-hydroxydopamine into the right substantia nigra to establish PD models. In addition, synphilin-1 siRNA and siRNA negative control sequences were separately injected into the right substantia nigra of siRNA, and siRNA negative control groups. The control group rats were treated with a mixture of ascorbic acid and normal saline. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Synphilin-1 and SOD protein and mRNA expression in the substantia nigra was detected by immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization. RESULTS： Synphilin-1 and SOD protein and mRNA expression were significantly decreased in PD and siRNA negative control groups （P 〈 0.05）. However, the siRNA group exhibited opposite effects. CONCLUSION： Synphilin-1 resulted in altered SOD expression, which suggested a protective role for synphilin-1 siRNA in an animal model of PD.

Background： The calcium clearance and reactive oxygen species （ROS） generations in the coronary artery smooth muscle cells in chronic heart failure （HF） have not been fully investigated. Therefore, we attempted to understand the gene expressions underlying the mishandling of calcium clearance and the accumulations of ROS. Methods： We initially established an animal model of chronic HF by making the left anterior descending coronary artery ligation （CAL） in rats, and then isolated the coronary artery vascular smooth muscle cells from the ischemic and the nonischemic parts of the coronary artery vessels in 12 weeks after CAL operation. The intracellular calcium concentration and ROS level were measured using flow cytometry, and the gene expressions of sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2＋-ATPase （SERCA2a）, encoding sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2＋-ATPase 2a, encoding sodium-calcium exchanger （NCX）, andp47phox encoding a subunit of the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate （NADPH） oxidase were examined using real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting, respectively. Results： We found that the calcium accumulation and ROS generation in the coronary artery smooth muscle cells isolated from either the ischemic or the nonischemic part of the CAL coronary artery vessel were significantly increased irrespective of blood supply （all P 〈 0.01 ）. Moreover, these were accompanied by the increased expressions of NCX and p47phox, the decreased expression of S ERCA2a, and the increased amount of phosphorylated forms of p47phox in NADPH oxidase （all P 〈 0.05）. Conclusions： Our results demonstrated that the disordered calcium clearance and the increased ROS generation occurred in the coronary artery smooth muscle cells in rats with chronic HF produced by ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery （CAL）, and which was found to be disassociated from blood supply, and the increased generation of ROS in the ceils was found to make

Acute central nervous system injuries,including ischemic stro ke,intracerebral hemorrhage,subarachnoid hemorrhage,traumatic brain injury,and spinal co rd injury,are a major global health *** optimal therapies and improving the long-term neurological functions of patients with acute central nervous system injuries are urgent *** are susceptible to damage after acute central nervous system injury,and this leads to the release of toxic levels of reactive oxygen species,which induce cell ***,a selective form of autophagy,is crucial in eliminating redundant or damaged mitochondria during these *** evidence has highlighted the significant role of mitophagy in acute central nervous system *** this review,we provide a comprehensive overview of the process,classification,and related mechanisms of *** also highlight the recent developments in research into the role of mitophagy in various acute central nervous system injuries and drug therapies that regulate *** the final section of this review,we emphasize the potential for treating these disorders by focusing on mitophagy and suggest future research paths in this area.

Optical mode converters are essential for enhancing the capacity of optical communication systems. However, fabrication errors restrict the further improvement of conventional mode converters. To address this challenge, we have designed an on-chip TE0–TE1mode converter based on topologically protected waveguide arrays. The simulation results demonstrate that the converter exhibits a mode coupling efficiency of 93.5% near 1550 nm and can tolerate a relative fabrication error of 30%. Our design approach can be extended to enhance the robustness for other integrated photonic devices, beneficial for future development of optical network systems.
