The extent of spermatogenic impairment on intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI)outcomes and the risk of major birth defects have been little *** this study,we evaluated the relationship between various spermatogenic conditions,sperm origin on ICSI outcomes,and major birth defects.A total of 934 infertile men attending the Center for Reproductive Medicine of Ren Ji Hospital(Shanghai,China)were classified into six groups:nonobstructive azoospermia(NOA;n=84),extremely severe oligozoospermia(esOZ;n=163),severe oligozoospermia(sOZ,n=174),mild oligozoospermia(mOZ;n=148),obstructive azoospermia(OAZ;n=155),and normozoospermia(NZ;n=210).Rates of fertilization,embryo cleavage,high-quality embryos,implantation,biochemical and clinical pregnancies,abortion,delivery,newborns,as well as major birth malformations,and other newborn outcomes were analyzed and compared among *** NOA group showed a statistically lower fertilization rate(68.2%vs esOZ 77.3%,sOZ 78.0%,mOZ 73.8%,OAZ 76.6%,and NZ 79.3%,all P<0.05),but a significantly higher implantation rate(37.8%)than the groups esOZ(30.1%),sOZ(30.4%),mOZ(32.6%),and OAZ(31.0%)(all P<0.05),which was similar to that of Group NZ(38.4%).However,there were no statistically significant differences in rates of embryo cleavage,high-quality embryos,biochemical and clinical pregnancies,abortions,deliveries,major birth malformations,and other newborn outcomes in the six *** results showed that NOA only negatively affects some embryological outcomes such as fertilization *** was no evidence of differences in other embryological and clinical outcomes with respect to sperm source or spermatogenic *** failure and sperm origins do not impinge on the clinical outcomes in ICSI treatment.

Azoospermia is of great importance to male infertility. Obstructive azoospermia （OA） due to infection is the most prevalent form of OA in China and has been less studied. We aim to observe the treatment outcome of microsurgical vasoepididymostomy （VE） and also to identify the factors relative to the result after reconstructive surgery. Two hundred and eight men presenting with OA due to infection during the study period from July 2010 to July 2013 were prospectively evaluated. Clinical examination, semen analysis, serum follicle stimulating hormone （FSH）, and scrotal ultrasound were done before surgical exploration. Among the 198 men who were selected for surgical procedures, 159 candidates underwent microsurgical VE with sperm detected in the epididymal fluid. As for the other 39 cases, reconstruction was not feasible. The average age was 28.5 ＋ 3.9 years （range 22-38）, with average follow-up being 16.5 ~ 5.9 months （range 4-28）. According to the 150 cases being followed after VE procedures, the total patency rate was 72% （108/150）. During follow-up, 38.7% （58/150） natural pregnancies occurred, with overall live birth rate being 32.7% （49/150）. Our data suggested that microsurgical VE is an effective therapy for postinfectious epididymal OA. Individualized counseling with prognosis based on etiology should be offered to patients to select optical therapy.

Electron beam (EB) curing of composites has many advantages. Heat-resistant EB-curing composites could substitute polyimide composites used in aeronautical engines. In this paper, the effects of catalyst and dose on the cured resin were investigated. The heat-resistance of the resin cured by EB was evaluated by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The experimental results show that the mechanical properties of the composites cured by EB could meet the specifications of aeronautical engines at 250 degreesC.

Since it was proposed,memtransistors have been a leading candidate with powerful capabilities in the field of neural morphological networks.A memtransistor is an emerging structure combining the concepts of a memristor and a field-effect transistor with low-dimensional materials,so that both optical excitation and electrical stimuli can be used to modulate the memristive characteristics,which make it a promising multi-terminal hybrid device for synaptic *** this paper,a single CdS nanowire memtransistor has been constructed by the micromechanical exfoliation and alignment lithography *** is found that the CdS memtransistor has good non-volatile bipolar memristive characteristics,and the corresponding switching ratio is as high as 10^(6) in the *** under illumination,the behavior of the CdS memtransistor is similar to that of a transistor or a memristor depending on the incident wavelengths,and the memristive switching ratio varies in the range of 10 to 10^(5) with the increase of the incident wavelength in the visible light *** addition,the optical power is also found to affect the memristive characteristics of the *** of these can be attributed to the modulation of the potential barrier by abundant surface states of nanowires and the illumination influences on the carrier concentrations in nanowires.

The effect of Cuscuta chinensis extract on the rabbit penile corpus cavernosum （PCC） was evaluated in the present study. Penises obtained from healthy male New Zealand white rabbits （2.5-3.0 kg） were precontracted with phenylephrine （Phe, 10 pmol I^-1） and then treated with various concentrations of Cuscuta chinensis extract （1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mg ml^-1）. The change in penile tension was recorded, and cyclic nucleotides in the PCC were measured by radioimmunoassay （RIA）. The interaction between Cuscuta chinensis and sildenafil was also evaluated. The result indicated that the PCC relaxation induced by Cuscuta chinensis extract was concentration-dependent. Pre-treatment with an nitric oxide synthase （NOS） inhibitor （No〉 nitro-L-arginine-methyl ester, L-NAME）, a guanylyl cyclase inhibitor （1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalin-l-one, ODQ）, or a protein kinase A inhibitor （KT 5720） did not completely inhibit the relaxation. Incubation of penile cavernous tissue with the Cuscuta chinensis extract significantly increased cyclic guanosine monophosphate （cGMP） and cyclic adenosine monophosphate （cAMP） in the PCC. Moreover, the Cuscuta chinensis extract significantly enhanced sildenafil-induced PCC relaxation. In conclusion, the Cuscuta chinensis extract exerts a relaxing effect on penile cavernous tissue in part by activating the NO-cGMP pathway, and it may improve erectile dysfunction （ED）, which does not completely respond to sildenafil citrate.

Childhood inguinal herniorrhaphy is one common cause of seminal tract obstruction. Vasovasostomy （VV） can reconstruct seminal deferens and result in appearance of sperm and natural pregnancy in some patients. Secondary epididymal obstruction caused by a relatively long-term vasal obstruction is a common cause of lower patency compared with VV due to vasectomy in adults. From July 2007 to June 2012, a total of 62 patients, with history of childhood inguinal herniorrhaphy and diagnosed as obstructive azoospermia were treated in our center. The overall patency rate and natural pregnancy rate were 56.5% （35/62） and 25.8% （16/62）, respectively. 48.4% （30/62） of the patients underwent bilateral VV in the inguinal region, with a patency rate of 76.7% （23/30） and a natural pregnancy rate of 36.7% （11/30）, respectively. 30.6% （19/62） of the patients underwent bilateral VV and unilateral or bilateral vasoepididymostomies due to ipsilateral epididymal obstruction with the patency and natural pregnancy rate decreasing to 63.2% （12/19） and 26.3% （5/19）. 21.0% （13/62） of the patients merely underwent vasal exploration without reconstruction due to failure to find distal vasal stump, etc. Our study indicate that microsurgical reanastomosis is an effective treatment for some patients with seminal tract obstruction caused by childhood inguinal herniorrhaphy.

To date, many efforts have been made to improve the performance of paintable carbon-based （PC-based） perovskite solar cells （PSCs）. Though great progress has been achieved, their power conversion efficiencies are still relatively low compared with hole-transport-materials-based PSCs. General research on influencing factors of performance in PC-based PSCs is still insufficient. In this work, PC-based PSCs were fabricated in ambient air and four groups of controlled experi- ments were performed in which the PbI2 layers were prepared with or without antisolvent extraction treatment. These four groups of experiments were designed to find out the effect of different influencing factors on PC-based PSCs performance, for example, PbI2 residual, the surface morphology of the perovskite film, the surface roughness of the perovskite film, and the contact status of the perovskite/carbon electrode interface. With a systematic analysis, we demonstrated that the contact status of the perovskite/carbon electrode interface played a vital role in PC-based PSCs, and a fiat, smooth perovskite surface could help to improve this contact status significantly. Besides, on the precondition of a poor contact interface, no PbI2 residual and a good surface morphology only brought limited benefits to the performances of PC-based PSCs.

This study sought to investigate late-onset hypogonadism （LOH） in old and middle-aged males in Shanghai communities, using symptom score evaluation systems and measurements of sex hormone levels. One thousand cases of males aged 40-70 years were investigated. The aging male symptoms （AMS） scale and androgen deficiency in aging males （ADAM） questionnaire were used at the beginning of the investigation, followed by measurement of the sex hormone-related factors （total testosterone （TT）, free testosterone （fT）, sex hormone-binding globulin （SHBG） and bioavailability of testosterone （Bio-T））. There were 977 valid questionnaires. The LOH-positive rates shown by AMS and ADAM were 59.88% and 84.65%, respectively; values increased with the age of the patients. There were 946 results related to sex hormone measurements, which showed the following results： TT was not related to aging （P〉O.05）; levels of SHBG increased with age; and fT and Bio-T decreased with age. There was a significant difference in fT between LOH-positive and LOH-negative patients, as shown by the ADAM. In summary, TT levels were not related to aging, even though SHBG did increase while fT and Bio-T decreased with aging. Clinically, the diagnosis of LOH cannot be based on serum TT level.

Effect of elevated total cholesterol level and hypertension on the risk of fatal cardiovascular disease： a cohort study of Chinese steelworkers

Background Increased blood pressure and elevated total cholesterol （TC） level are the two most important modifiable risk factors of cardiovascular disease （CVD） in the world. Hypertension and hypercholesterolemia co-exist more often than would be expected and whether there is a synergistic impact on fatal CVD between elevated TC and hypertension need to be further examined in Chinese population. Methods We conducted a cohort study which recruited 5092 Chinese male steelworkers aged 18-74 years in 1974-1980 and followed up for an average of 20.84 years. Totally 302 fatal CVD events were documented by the year of 2001. Cox proportional hazards regression models were undertaken to adjust for baseline variables with fatal CVD events as the outcome variable. Additive interaction model was used to evaluate the interaction between elevated TC and hypertension. Results Hypercholesterolemia and hypertension were significantly associated with an increased hazard ratio （HR） of fatal CVD （1.67 （95% CI 1.18-2.38） and 2.91 （95% CI 2.23-3.80） respectively. Compared to participants with normotension and TC 〈240 mg/dl, the HRs were 1.11 （95% CI 0.56-2.21）, 2.74 （95% CI 2.07-3.64） for hypercholesterolemia and hypertension respectively, and 5.51 （95% CI 3.58-8.46） for participants with both risk factors. There was an additive interaction with a 2.65 （95% CI 0.45-4.85） relative excess risk （RERI） between hypercholesterolemia and hypertension on CVD. Conclusion We found that the risk of fatal CVD was significantly associated with an additive interaction due to hypercholesterolemia and hypertension besides a conventional main effect derived from either of them, which highlights that the prevention and treatment of both risk factors might improve the individual risk profile thus reduce the CVD mortality.
