Objective To investigate the effects of losartan, a specific angiotensin Ⅱ receptor blocker, on slowing progression of renal insufficiency in patients with biopsy-proven chronic allograft nephropathy （CAN） and the molecular mechanism of the therapy. Methods Twenty-two renal transplant recipients with biopsy-proven CAN （group A） were treated with losartan within two months after renal dysfunction for at least one year. Losartan was administered at a dose of 50 mg/d. Twenty-four recipients in the same fashion （group B） who never received angiotensin Ⅱ receptor antagonist were studied as control. The investigation time for each patient lasted one year. Renal functions and concentrations of plasma and urine transforming growth factor-betal （TGF-betal） were compared between the two groups at the initiation and end of the study. In group A, expressions of TGF-betal mRNA and immunofluorescence intensity of TGF-betal protein and pathological alterations in renal biopsy specimens were compared between before losartan therapy and after one year of the therapy. Results At the initiation of the investigation, no significant differences were found between group A and group B in clinical data such as donor age, cold-ischemia time, HLA mismatch, levels of creatinine clearance （Ccr）, plasma and urine TGF-betal concentrations. One year later, 14 of 22 （63.6%） patients showed stable or improved graft functions in group A, and 4 of 24 （16.7%） in group B. The difference was significant （P 〈 0.05）. At the end of the study, urine TGF-betal concentration was 273.8 ± 84.1 pg/*** in group A and 457.2 ± 78.9 pg/*** in group B. During one year study period, loss of Ccr was 6.6 ± 5.4 mL/min in group A and 16.2 ± 9.1 mL/min in group B. Both of the differences were significant between the two groups （P 〈 0.01）. No significant differences were found in plasma TGF-betal concentrations between the four values determined at the initiation and end of the study in the two groups （F= 2.56, P〉

As promising candidates for plasma-facing materials,tungsten-based materials suffer the irradiation of high-energy neutrons in addition to the hydrogen isotopes and helium irradiation and the high-thermal ***-produced defects,***-interstitial atoms(SIAs)and vacancies(Vs),can induce the hardening and embrittlement of tungsten,meanwhile enhancing the retention of hydrogen isotopes and helium in *** the grain size of materials to introduce a high density of defect sinks,e.g.,grain boundaries(GBs)prevalent in nano-/ultrafine-crystalline materials,was demonstrated to be an effective approach for mitigating irradiation damage in *** this paper,we reviewed the theoretical advances in exploring radiation-resistance of nano-structured tungsten at across *** was concentrated on the results of molecular dynamics,molecular statics,and the object kinetic Monte Carlo simulations on the fundamental interaction of the radiation-created Vs and SIAs with the *** mechanisms include GB-promoted V/SIA migration and SIA-V recombination,interstitial-emission induced annihilation,coupling of the V migration close to the GB with the SIA motion within the GB,and interstitial reflection by the locally dense GB *** proposed the remaining scientific issues on the defect-GB interactions at across scales and their relation to experimental *** prospected the possible trends for simulating the radiation damage accumulation and healing processes in nano-structured tungsten in terms of the development of the across-scale computational techniques and efficiency of the GB-enhanced tolerance of tungsten to irradiation under complex in-service conditions.

Single wall carbon nanotube(SWCNT)/Si heterojunction photodetectors have the advantages of high photoresponse ability and simple structure,however,their detection wavelength range are usually lower than 1100 nm,which limits their application in the infrared *** report a SWCNT/Cu/Si photodetector with both a high photoresponse and a detection range up to the infrared band by depositing a Cu nanoparticles(NPs)layer between a SWCNT film and a n-Si *** was found that the Cu NPs produce strong surface plasmon resonance(SPR)under laser irradiation,which breaks through the limitation of Si band gap and greatly improves the photoresponse of the SWCNT/Cu/Si photodetector in the near infrared *** responsivity(R)of the photodetector in the wavelength range of 1850–1200 nm reached 2.2–14.15 mA/W,which is the highest value in the reported plasmon enhanced n-Si based photodetectors,and about 20,000 times higher than that of a SWCNT/Si *** R value for 1550 nm wavelength used in optical communications reached~8.2 mA/W,which is 64%higher than the previously reported values of commonly used *** attribute the significant increase to the strong SPR and low Schottky barrier of Cu with n-Si,which facilitates the generation and transfer of the carriers.

Aim: Melatonin-selenium nanoparticle (MT-Se), a novel complex, was synthesized by preparing selenium nanoparticles in a melatonin medium. The present investigation was designed to determine the protective effects of MT-Se against immunological liver injury in mice induced by bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG)/ lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Methods: The model of immunological liver injury in mice was prepared. The levels of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, nitric oxide (NO) in serum, malondialdehyde content, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-px) activities in a liver homo-genate were assayed by spectrophotometry. The content of tumor necrosis fac-tor (TNF) and interleukin-1 (IL-1) were determined by ELISA. The splenocyte proliferation was assayed by 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetra-zolium bromide (MTT) dye reduction. Meanwhile, a hepatic pathological examination was observed. Results: In the BCG/LPS-induced hepatic injury model, MT-Se administered at doses of 5,10, or 20 mg/kg to the BCG/LPS-treated mice for 10 d significantly reduced the increase in serum aminotransferase, reduced the severe extent of hepatic cell damage and the immigration of inflammatory cells. It also attenuated the increase in the content of thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances and enhanced the decrease in activities of SOD and GSH-px. In contrast, the treatment with MT-Se suppressed the increase in NO level in both the serum and liver tissue. Furthermore, MT-Se significantly lowered an increase in TNF and IL-1 levels in the liver and inhibited the production of TNF and IL-1 by peritoneal macrophages. A downregulation effect of MT-Se on splenocyte proliferation was also observed. Conclusion: MT-Se showed a hepatic protective action on immunological liver injury in mice.

BACKGROUND Obesity in children and adolescents is a serious problem,and the efficacy of exercise therapy for these patients is *** To assess the efficacy of exercise training on overweight and obese children based on glucose metabolism indicators and inflammatory *** The PubMed,Web of Science,and Embase databases were searched for randomized controlled trials related to exercise training and obese children until October *** meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.3 software to evaluate the efficacy of exercise therapy on glucose metabolism indicators and inflammatory markers in obese *** In total,1010 patients from 28 studies were *** therapy reduced the levels of fasting blood glucose(FBG)[standardized mean difference(SMD):-0.78;95%confidence interval(CI):-1.24 to-0.32,P=0.0008],fasting insulin(FINS)(SMD:-1.55;95%CI:-2.12 to-0.98,P<0.00001),homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance(HOMA-IR)(SMD:-1.58;95%CI:-2.20 to-0.97,P<0.00001),interleukin-6(IL-6)(SMD:-1.31;95%CI:-2.07 to-0.55,P=0.0007),C-reactive protein(CRP)(SMD:-0.64;95%CI:-1.21 to-0.08,P=0.03),and leptin(SMD:-3.43;95%CI:-5.82 to-1.05,P=0.005)in overweight and obese *** training increased adiponectin levels(SMD:1.24;95%CI:0.30 to 2.18,P=0.01)but did not improve tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α)levels(SMD:-0.80;95%CI:-1.77 to 0.18,P=0.11).CONCLUSION In summary,exercise therapy improves glucose metabolism by reducing levels of FBG,FINS,HOMA-IR,as well as improves inflammatory status by reducing levels of IL-6,CRP,leptin,and increasing levels of adiponectin in overweight and obese *** was no statistically significant effect between exercise training and levels of TNF-α.Additional long-term trials should be conducted to explore this therapeutic perspective and confirm these results.
